Recorded Video from Desktop will not play on Laptop

Q: Recorded Video from Desktop will not play on Laptop

I had posted a question a while back about setting up a network and with the answers from "Tech Guy"did get a system working just fine. My Desktop is a Dell Dimension 8400 with XP Media center OS and the laptop is a Toshiba Satellite with Windows Vista Premium. I have two external drives the one I use primarily in storing my present personal active files including a file that stores recording media which the desktop Media Center gets from the TV cable connection. Then this file is also available via the network to the laptop. With the external drive all my other stored files from the desktop are also available on my laptop. Lately I have had several movie downloads and several repeats of the series "Jag"which play on the desktop but will not play on the laptop with various excuses for them not playing like "Cannot play this format:" or " for one reason or another "not authorized to play". I would think the recordings between the two Media Centers would be identical unless Microsoft has changed that too with Vista. I am very unhappy with Vista.

Preferred Solution: Recorded Video from Desktop will not play on Laptop

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I recently recorded a video interview using my laptop's video recording, the video was a little over 30 minutes long. When I went to play the video, my computer would not play it. When I try to open it, it says "Can not play. Choose something else to play. This item is in a format we don't support.  0xc1010103" even though it will play other videos I have recorded on the computer. I am not sure if the video was too long or if it somehow got corrupted.  This is a very important video that I need for a class assignment, is there any way I can play it?

after installing a new video card my MCE does not play recorded TV, Live TV or DVDs anymore. It will play for a few seconds, and then crash.

If I play a file of recorded TV with Windows Media Player, it works fine.

The card I installed is a ATI Radeon HD 5450, 1Gb.

I can still play recorded TV from my Extender, so functionality seems OK.

Any advice is highly appreciated!

Hi guys,

I got a Windows 7 64 bits desktop computer connected to a home theatre receiver (via HDMI). The home theatre receiver sends the video to a 50 inch TV (via HDMI also) and the sound to a 5.1 surround system. We could call this a HTPC setup.

I have verified with a HQ youtube song and it does play on my 5 speakers and on my subwoofer.

The desktop's GPU is a GTX 460 and the CPU is a i7-930.

What's the best way to play a video file (like a 1080p AC3 file, H.264 or etc) on the setup described above in order to get the best image quality on the TV and the best 5.1 surround sound quality sent to my home theatre receiver ?

Some options to inspire the discussion:

GOM Media player with AC3 filter ?

VLC ? (lots of people seem to be recommending this one around the general internet, but I don't know if it's technically superior or just popular)

MPC-HC (Media Player Classic - Home Cinema) ?

I saw many options on Lifehacker and I'm not sure of the best option for my specific case described above. Lifehacker reference here:

A:[SOLVED] What's the best way to play a video from desktop to home theatre ?

Hi All

I seem to have a very strange issue with my Win 7 (64) setup. About a month ago i had to install the BlackBerry desktop Manager to set up my friends PlayBook, after that i uninstalled it. Now i have a strange problem, every time i try to play a video with Windows Media player it opens the player and then starts the BB Desktop Manager installation and the video wont play. If i close the installation it will just start it again and again and again until i close WMP.

I tried some registry cleaners and special uninstallers to make sure i got rid of everything that has to do with the BB Desktop. I have eSet antivirus installed with anti spyware, its fully updated and everything scanned clean.

Can anyone suggest on something i can try?

Yeah. I don't know what happened. One day, all of the sudden, Windows XP created a little X inside a red circle icon inside my tray and keeps bugging me that my computer is infected. Not only that, but my AVG scan doesn't say anything's wrong. Also, at random times that my sound is on, music or videos (I'm assuming) will play, but nothing is open, nothing is running. I ran HiJackThis (after several failed attempts, I finally learned I had to change the name because apparently this virus is shutting it down immediately) and I have the log right here. I recognize a few things here, but some of the files just seem like random numbers and letters, and I don't know if that's good or bad. Please. Someone take a look at it:

Hi, i recorded a streaming video off of the internet and when i came to play it i noticed it was very quiet. I was wondering if there was anyway to make it sound louder without turning up the volume on my speakers? I used the program - Frontcam - to record the video.

I await your replies

A:Recorded Video Sound

To record sound: Right click the icon of "volume control" on your system tray bar (on the right bottom corner of the screen) and then go to the menu item "options"->"properties"->"recording" and press the "OK" button, check the proper item you want to recording and then start sound recording.
To record sound from microphone: check "Microphone".
To record sound from other application: check "Stero Mix" or "Mono Mix", the name may be different depending on your system.

A:My Win10 HP Laptop wont play any video!

Thegames10 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! When you create a video, you actually use something called codecs -- and with a video, you will have an audio codec and a separate video codec. If you are trying to use Windows Media Player  (WMP), that installs a VERY limited set of codecs, so it's possible the ones you used to render the video are not among the very small set that WMP has. My suggestion is to install VideoLan Player (known as VLC). This is a freeware player that includes all of the commonly used codecs. If that still does not work, then you need to get in touch with a support forum for Sony Vegas, as we do not have the resources here to troubleshoot problems with non-HP software.Good Luck

Under Windows, I can view every single format: Xvid/Divx, MPEG, DVD and so on without any issues, but under Linux the same films and clips will run with speed problems (jerkiness, slowdown) and the picture quality is severely reduced along with artefacts and pixellation.

I've tried just about every solution imaginable and despite months of research nothing seems to resolve this or point towards clues. I have posted on virtually every Linux forum and specialist graphics group but to no avail.

Trying a different distro didn't help - as a test I used Knoppix and experienced the same issues. So does this mean there is a problem with the open source drivers(codecs?) and my graphics hardware? (ATI Mobility P/M Agp 2X) If anyone can offer clues, suggestions or advice I'd really appreciate it as I've exhausted all other avenues and my current work-around is using Win2K on a dual boot just to watch films properly.

A:Video playback problems with my laptop under Linux (play fine under Win)

"every solution"? Really? Even the sledgehammer+anvil one?? Why do you even ask if "everything" has been tried?

First. What video player software are you using?
Second. Yes, your video and audio drivers can have a huge impact.
Third. Running KDE or GNOME on that machine is just masochistic. Use Xubuntu instead.

Does it have the same power plug and sata port as a 3.5 inch sata drive?
I think it is a laptop sata drive.
Will a sata II controller work if the drive is a sata I drive?

A:1.8 inch laptop sata hard drive will it plug and play in a desktop pc?

Answers to all three are YES.

IF the drive is Sata 1 and the controller is rated to Sata 2, the drive will still work.

I had been recording cartoon shows off and on for my godson to watch. In February, I started getting errors and every attempt to burn a video DVD aborts. At first I thought maybe I had some bad DVD+R media, but I am able to burn other things to DVD outside of Media Center. I can burn data DVDs, but fail on video DVDs.

Here is what happens: In Media Center, I select the episodes of recorded TV shows that I want to burn to DVD. The process starts normally, indicating that it may take "several hours" to finish. After about an hour or so, at around 25% completion, I hear the DVD burner spin up like it is going to start burning the DV. After a few (less than ten) seconds, it stops and ejects the disk. In Media Center, an error comes up saying: "BURN FAILURE, An error has occurred in burning the CD/DVD." There is no further info nor error codes. It appears that something does get burned to the disk during those few seconds, because the system will no longer recognize the disk and it must be trashed.

I am running Vista Ultimate 64-bit on an HP system with a quad core processor and 4Gb of RAM. So far, I have tried all the tips that I can find for similar problems (install CODECs, reregistering DLL files, etc.), but nothing helps. I even went so far as to use the original system restore disks to wipe out the computer entirely and reinstall Vista, then let it do all updates (through SP2). Lots of things work better, but this one problem per... Read more

A:Media center wont burn recorded tv to video disc

Hello rmths,
Found this, i am not into burning discs but this may point you in the right direction.
Hope it helps. Good luck and post your results, thanks.

In Media Center, you can only create a video DVD by using a recorded TV show when the broadcast type matches the region that you have selected in Media Center.

Also have you looked at your codec pack ?.
