Ideapad Flex 15 does not power on. Blinking light every 5 seconds.

Q: Ideapad Flex 15 does not power on. Blinking light every 5 seconds.

Hello World. I'm not able to power up an Ideapad Flex 15. When I press the power button, its led starts blinking, in synchonicity with the power light indicator, making a short blink every almost 5 seconds. I've dissasemblied it. Fan cooler tries to start, but suddenly stops. This issue repeats every 5 seconds, same time as the laptop blinks. I've tried common steps (like keeping the power button pressed with no battery and no charger). So, if anyone has a possible solution, I'll appreciate your help. Thanks a lot!

Preferred Solution: Ideapad Flex 15 does not power on. Blinking light every 5 seconds.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

First of all thank you for trying to help!
My pc is rather new (3 months) and hasent been causing any problems untill now. In the last couple of days, i've noticed an odd increase in the hdd led activety. after reading up on the web, i figured this was probably due to vista background stuff. However, the problem got worse- to the point where the os couldent start after restarting. (it would start up fine from the cd drive). after a few restarts it managed to start up, and since then the pc is super slow, with hdd led always flashing.
this happend around the same time i downloaded and installed vista SP1.
I checked the sata connection to the hdd, but it didnt help.

i guess my question is this- is it hardware for sure, or could it be software? i can format if it's software, just wondering if i should. maybe the hdd is just dead...

Thanks in advance for any help

Hi. Tonight I had a problem with my laptop. It was in sleeping mode, and when I open the lid there were no mouse function and no touch screen function. So the only thing I could do was to press the power button for 3 seconds to turn it off, but it didn't completely, because the screen turn off, but the power button light is blinking just like when it is on sleep mode, and I'm not sure if the hard drive light was on, off or blinking before this, but now is blinking. I press the power button and nothing happen, I press it for 3 seconds and nothing happen. I even did the HDMI connection to another monitor, but both monitors don't show anything, not even recognize that something is connected to the HDMI port in the new monitor. There is no sound, nothing, just the 2 blinking lights. What should I do? Thanks PS: I'm not sure if it's Windows 10 32-bit or 64-bit. It was upgraded from Windows 8

I've been using my new Lenovo laptop for 2 weeks now and today it just shut off (screen went black, everything stopped running) suddenly and the battery light was flashing amber. I didn't want to panic too quickly so I just plugged in the battery and waited a while before I tried turning my laptop back on. When I managed to turn it back on, it asked me to wait while it was updating. I quickly googled about the flashing amber light and found people experiencing battery problems. This laptop is still very new so I'm not sure if it would apply to me. Anyway, it's the first time a laptop/computer has suddenly shut off to apparently do updates... So I'm wondering if I should look further into this or brush it off since my laptop is now again up and running.. My laptop is currently still charging, but before it shut off, I didn't see any notifications about running out of batteries.

I have Lenovo Yoga 910. It's a couple years old. Suddenly I experienced lagging with the keyboard. Every button must be pushed at least a couple of seconds to appear or response. Some buttons are worst than the others. I called Lenovo and was advised to try to do hard reset by pressing down the power button for 45 seconds followed by pressing the Nuvo button but that didn't work. The problem was still happening. It's not windows upgrade related because this issue was also happening in BIOS when clicking on the arrow buttons and pgup/down buttons. I also tested it in Safe mode and it's still lagging. I even tried restoring the original windows version that came from Lenovo and still didn't work. After researching on the net, some were saying to unplug the battery cable and plug back in to solve the issue. So i did that, I unplug the battery cable but NOW....I have a different problem, worst than before.Pressing the power button doesn't do anything, the laptop doesn't start up. When i plugged in the charger, orange light next to it is blinking. According to Lenovo manual that this means the battery is under 20% but I left it charged overnight and it's still the same (orange light blinking). Also pressing the power button still doesn't do anything. But i noticed if i keep on pressing the power button, it will blink white lights every 20 seconds or so.The battery was in good condition because I did Lenovo diagnostic before I unplug the battery cable so I don't think this is batter... My Inspiron 15R N5110 won't come on. I've tried both battery and 2 different ac adapters. I've removed the battery, unplugged it, and held the power button for 30 seconds to discharge the system, but it still won't come on.
I took the laptop apart and everything looks alright, but the DC jack was slightly brown on top so I replaced the DC jack board. It still won't work.
I made sure the connections are tight (the DC jack and other USB board) by screwing them down. The only thing that happens that shows any life is when the battery is in. The power button, power indicator light in front, and the little "gears" light blink white for just a moment, then off, about every 5 seconds.

Any ideas? If I have to replace the motherboard, what is the difference between 0G8RW1 and 0VVN1W? I'm not worried about the product key not validating - may even put Windows 8 on it.
Thanks!

I have a Sony VGC-RB42G computer. I recently moved my computer, cleaned off all the dust, and when I plugged everything back in, it won't power up. The light on the power supply blinks green, inside the motherboard also has a green light that blinks as well. It has a ticking sound too, but I am not sure if it is coming from the power supply or the motherboard. Any idea what could be wrong.

FYI, I have already unplugged everything from the power supply, pulled out the ram, checked the battery, and put everything back together and still no change. One thing I thought was strange was after I unplugged everything, I pulled the power into the power supply again and this time the green light came on but did not blink. It stayed solid.

I've had Windows 8 sitting around since February, and got around to installing it yesterday. So far all is well, except for when I shut my computer off the power LED will keep flashing. At first I thought my computer was just in sleep mode, but after hitting a couple keys that was not the case. Is there a setting some where that would cause this. I know it's a minor issue but damn that LED is bright.

My systems specs
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300EVGA 123-YW-E175-A1 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 750i Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3750640AS 750GB CORSAIR XMS2 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800Yeah this machine is over five years old, working on getting a new one together soon.

As a test you could try turning Fast Startup off, Fast Startup - Turn On or Off in Windows 8
The Fast Startup uses a hybrid sleep mode and that may be why your power LED is blinking.

I have a dell mini 10v that uses windows xp. week before last i noticed that my computer's power light was blinking red. what could be causing this problem? when I touch the charger, ever so lightly, or barely touch the pc, the computer will power off. after jiggling the wire to the charger, the power light comes back on, and is blinking red. sometimes i do not even have to touch the pc, it powers off on its own.

i then have to press the power button for the computer to start up.

i was told i needed a new charger, which i purchased, but the power light is still blinking red. i went to the power option and my battery is at 55% and does not change. what is causing this? do I need a new battery? i checked to see if my power option was set on stand by. it was and so i changed it, but the light is still blinking red. does anybody have any suggestions?

i was told t remove the battery for a few minutes and then reinstall, but i cringe at having to do that. the screws in the back are so small i am not sure i can even get the panel out, but if i have to, then i will.

what should i do? thanks for the help

Apparently it happend last time he unplugged his computer, although i don't know why he did it then. He said that last time he set ti aside and later (week+) plugged it back in and it worked. What would the problem be and how could we fix it?

What software are you installing and after how much time does it tur off?
Did you review the power settings (under screen saver) after you installed Windows?
Also, you never gave any specs on your computer (aside from the o/s) what kind of PC do you have, how old is it?

Now that it's summer, my T420 is back to not booting if it doesn't feel like it. As before, I press the power button, and instead of doing anything, the power light starts flashing, one second on, one second off, forever or until I get bored and pull the battery out for a second or two. I've gone through all the threads even vaguely related to it, which are full of all sorts of weird fixes that don't work for me  (I haven't tried the eye of newt ones yet), but none of them answers the obvious question: What condition does the flashing power light signal? It's obviously something that the firmware or hardware is designed to do under a specific set of circumstances, but so far no one (least of all from Lenovo) has mentioned what they are. I've tried taking it to the repair shop (MicroCenter), but the problem is that it never shows the problem at the repair shop.   It seems like if it's in a perfectly temperature and humidity controlled space for a long time, like your average repair shop, the problem goes away.  Or it used to, anyway.  Since I haven't found a set of specific conditions that consistently trigger the problem, I can't show it to the shop. There are a lot of things I like about the T420.  But I can't deal with a laptop that only works when it feels like it, and which has a problem that a lot of people share but the manufacturer isn't helpful with, so I think my next one (i.e., after I give up on this one) will ... Yo, this is my first post : ) I searched for this topic, but my question is pretty specific...

Yesterday i was on my computer and all was well, except my sound wasn't working. i don' thave a sound card so it's directly connected to my motherboard - that was annoying, but then my keyboard backlight kept blinking on and off and started entering in a lot of typing in my computer. They keyboard problem might be an isolated issue though cause it's given me problems before.

Well it didn't look like any immdediate danger so i went to sleep. This morning though, my computer wouldn't start up... the power light was (and is still) blinking on and off when it's plugged in. I tried switiching out a different cable, a different wall plug, and waiting a lot, etc. Well it's definitely the PSU - but i'm not sure if that's it.

I want to go get it repaired cause i'm a noodle amed choir girl with no hardware experience, but i don't know if i should just get the psu replaced or should i look at a new motherboard too? the sound wasn't working yesterday, and i'm not sure about the keyboard incident, but it'ss just started giving me all this trouble.

Also, my setup is really old, and kinda crappy. I have a Sony Vaio. I'm inexperienced with hardware issues so bare with me if some of this is not necessary. The PSU wattage is like 250, and seems to me, very weak. i dont' know the details about my mothereboard, bu... Read more

The other day I decided to turn my envy off for the first time in roughly a week. I usually just leave it on, plugged into the charger, putting it into sleep mode when im not using it. For some reason, ever since then I have not been able to turn it back on. Whenever I press the power button, The power light blinks. The pattern is a single short blink every 3-5 seconds. This continues until I take the battery out. Sometimes, if I leave it be for a day or so, I am able to get the computer to turn on, but It will not boot. I can hear the fan going, see the lights turn on as they are supposed to, however the screen remains black. I am under the impression that this either a hardware issue, or the CPU is just toast. either of which would suck. Normally I would take to a computer shop and have them look at it, but right now I'm serving in Iraq, so im SOL. And yes, I have tried everything under the sun to get it running. I have taken the battery out and left it out for an extended period, tried turning it on with and without the ac adapter plugged in, tried to perform a hard reset, and a combination of all of them.

Yesterday, I was just sitting there watching TV at my computer desk, with the computer on, next thing I know- I look over and the computer was shutdown. I didn't know why, so then I go to turn it on, it will not turn on- and the power button, that should be green, starts blinking orange. I'm not sure what the problem is, I think something might be dead. I have been getting a message that says "Alert! System Battery Voltage Low" for about 2 years, I'm not sure if that would be it or not (Maybe that died? Would that do it? I don't know).

When I try to turn it on, I can see the fan and stuff turn on for about half a second, then everything just turns off except for the mobo light and the orange blinking light. I've tested my brothers working power supply in mine, so I know that mine still works because that didn't fix it. I've taken the graphics card out, that didn't do it either. I am working on a frends desktop that recently might have been hit by lightning. After a big storm their desktop would no longer power on. Now, I am no stranger to computers. I unplugged the motherboard main connector and I get a solid green light when I plug the psu in. Plug the main connector back in and plug the psu in I get blinking light again. So either its the PSU or mainboard. Im thinking psu since usually that is what goes first, but at the same time I am leaning towards mainboard. what do you all think? On another note, Are these boards proprietary? I have a few standard ATX PSUs I could test my theory with but not if I have to rewire them.

A:Blinking green light on Power Supply.

@RageIncoming?, welcome to the forum. I agree with your diagnosis.  The PSU is most likely to be the culprit.  Here is a guide to help you troubleshoot it. The PSU is a standard ATX.  You can use any brand that will fit.  Just measure the existing PSU and match it to the one you choose.  I like Corsair products because they provide clean, stable, power.  The motherboard are somewhat proprietary, but I have never had a member say that the one they chose wouldn't work. Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.

No clue unless it is coincidental hardware failure.

Hello everyone this is my first post here. I own a dell optiplex 745 with a core2duo 1.8 Ghz processor, 2 gb RAM and have also added an XFX HD 5550 to it. I have been using it since almost two years, and it hasn't caused me many problems except this blinking orange power light.
The problem is just this that the desktop just won't start. All that happens is that the power light just blinks orange. This has happened to it almost four times in the last two years, and the problem has seemingly resolved itself the last four times. Well it would go something like this: I would turn off the PC normally, and the next time i started it all i would get is this blinking light. Then after a couple of days or hours, I would try again and it work as if nothing had happened. But this time it happened four days ago. I turned it off, then switched it on but i got the orange light. Since then, I have tried so many times but this time I fear something much bigger has happened.
Now I have done a decent amount of work in trying to figure out whats the problem. The key thing to note is that its not my PSU (yes i used a different one). Does this mean it's my motherboard which is causing the problem? Or is it something else?
I did a bit of digging up on the internet for the same problem, and I saw one which said something about a faulty power on button       http://www.instructables.com/id/Fix-the-Dell-OLOD-Orange-Light-Of-Death/

According to the Dell manual this is either a power supply or motherboard problem.  It doesn't detail how to further troubleshoot.
Do you get any diagnostic lights? or beeps when you power it on.
But, you can remove the video card to see if the symptom changes.  If not, reseat the memory as a next step.
If neither of these help you are back to either the replacement power supply or a motherboard problem.

Hello,

Thank you for the information. For the battery light blinking repeatedly, I have included the following document 'Computer Does Not Start and the LEDs Blink or the Computer Beeps'. Once you do have the link open, click on Battery power LED blinks' and follow through the steps.

The second document that I have included is 'Computer Does not Start (Windows 7, Vista, XP)'. Once you do have the document open, please click on the symptom that your computer is having, and follow through the steps in order.

The last document that I have included is, 'Battery Does not Power Notebook or Hold a Charge'. This will take you through the different options of testing the battery, power supply, and system board.

Please let me know if you are able to turn the notebook on after this, thank you.

Good evening guys. So I have a Lenovo B50-80 laptop. When the laptop is on and I plug in the charger, after a few seconds, the power button light (color green) begins to blink, the indicator light also next to the hardware indicator light becomes orange instantly (orange means it's low) and also begins to blink.  This happens only when the charger is plugged in. When it is out, the blinking stops totally. The blinking never stops when the charger is connected until it is removed.  I only get to charge it when the laptop is shut down. Please really need a fix for this. The battery is okay.

A:Computer shuts down with blinking power light

It sounds like you have a driver problem, and the blinking light suggests that the computer isn't actually shutting down, its actually going into what vista now calls 'Sleep', or standby in XP.

I had the same problem with my desktop the computer, try updating your motherboard drivers and video drivers from the relevant manufacturers websites. Give that a try and if it doesn't work then let me know and i'll give you another possible solution.

I have also reseated the RAM, video card, and CPU as well as reseating all power cables and still nothing. I'm trying to find another socket 775 P4 for testing, but haven't come up with one yet. Am I looking at a defective MOBO here, or does anyone have any other troubleshooting ideas?

Thanks,

Anthony

My mom gave me a Dell Dimension 4700 computer that was acting up. She said it would turn it's self off randomly and she thought it was a virus. When I brought the computer to my place, it powered on once, then I went to turn it on again and nothing. No lights, no power what so ever. So after doing some research I bought a new power supply for it. I just replaced the power supply and plugged the computer in and now there is a blinking amber light in the front and a solid green light on the motherboard but it won't turn on. I have checked all of the connections and they are properly seated. Any ideas what is causing the problem?

Perhaps this has been discussed elsewhere in the forum, but the threads were written rather inscrutably and so I'll state my problem here and hope to receive some feedback.I have a two-month old Yoga 900. Tonight it would not wake up after I put it to sleep. The power light on the side blinked, but no amount of holding it would wake the thing. Also, the machine was plugged in whilst I tried to jostle it from slumber.I googled a solution which, thankfully, worked. Which was: unplug the thing, depress the power button for 10 secs., then plug in power cord and boot again. Aha, this magic trick worked. Nonetheless I feel compelled to ask WHAT KIND OF CRUMMY PC HAVE I BOUGHT THAT GOES INTO HIBERATION LIKE THIS??? And how can I avoid it from happening again. Never had an episode like this with any Dell, Samsung or Mac. Just this jolly two month old Lenovo which I thought was a decent machine until now.Feedback appreciated.

We just had a poweroutage for a about 2 seconds, when power came back up, the power light on the router (linksys wrt54g ver 7) started blinking. I unplugged the router, plugged the modem in, and started surfing the net for solutions. One solution I found was on this site. I started reading a thread with a similar problem. Basically, its telling me that the firmware on my router is corrupted and I need to updated it again but by using the tftp.exe program since I can no longer enter the GUI of the router. The instructions I red said I need to assign a static ip first on my computer but it requires the DNS of my router and apparently (according to the instructions I red on the thread here with the same problem) the only way I can get the DNS is to access the GUI of my router and copy it from there. Since I'm unable to do that, I can't set up a static address, I can't use the tftp.exe program (I can't find a site where I can download it anyway); well there's nothing to start until I get that DNS number. I was wondering if I have other options left. I also tried resetting it. It didn't work.

Hello, I the power supply light of my Media Center m1050y is blinking and the PC does not turn on at all. So I tried the troubleshooting sequence posted here in the HP Support site, and after unplugging all the cables and replugging them one by one, it turns out that the light blinks only when the PS is connected to the mother board (the connection is a white, wide plug with about 12 pins - pardon my ignorance on the actual name). I looked on the internet about trying to narrow the cause on the motherboard and I unplugged the front USB ports, the fan, and other "solutions" without any luck. Does this mean the motherboard is fried and either I need to replace the motherboard or look for another PC? Thanks!

What troubleshooting sequences did you try......was it this.   Suggestion: get a hair dryer, and use it at the rear vent. See if the light stops flashing. Read about the hair dryer tip here.

Hello Guys,I have HP dv6 pavilion series with Windows 10 (64 bit) for 4 years now. I dont have the Battery so I usually work with directly connecting the Power cable. It worked fine till now. Today it abruptly Shut down and since then its not booting. The Charging light keeps on Blinking.I have tried the 40/30 sec trick (holding thepower on button for 30-40 secs for the capacitors to discharge) twice, but in vain. I also cleaned up my cooling fan and checked for all the wiring, its all intact. After re-essembling the laptop, the same problem persists. And about the Bios update, I do think I have the latest bios updated, as my laptop is connected with internet, and I usually keep it all Updated. And if someone recommends me to Update the BIOS, well I cannot power on my laptop, so is there any alternative for updating the BIOS? Earlier it did Abruptly Shutdown twice or thrice over last few days, but used to Power up again. But today it wont work. Please Help Me guys. Thanks

Hi, I had a friend bring me an HP laptop recently that was not turning on or responding at all. The only thing that happens when I plug the laptop in is that the light located right next to the power port (which has a plug icon next to it) blinks a light blue / whitish color. No other lights blink, not the lightning bolt charging light, nothing. I have tried it with the battery installed, and removed.  Same behavior.I have tried the power drain (hold the power button for a minute while the batter is removed). Same behavior.I have tried multiple power adapters. Same behavior. Does this likely mean something is wrong with the motherboard itself? I can't find much information on a blinking power port light, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Adam

My Dell GX300 won't power on. The power button light just blinks when it is plugged in. I tried booting from a floppy and from the OS disk but nothing happens.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

A:Optiplex GX300 Blinking Power Button Light

It's either a bad power supply or mainboard -- the former more likely than the latter.  Unfortunately, both the power supply and mainboard are both proprietary and obsolete on this model - you may have difficulty finding either.
Unless the system can't be replaced for some reason, that would be preferable than the seach for parts for this one (which is on the order of 15+ years old).

A:power, there is a blinking light in the back but it wont turn on

The PC may need a new PSU (Power Supply Unit) which fits inside the PC case and distributes the power to the various components.

The Power Adapter Light is blinking orange and I am unable to turn on my notebook. It appears to blink 7 times and then 1 time before a extended pause. Any ideas on how to get the notebook powered up again?

A:Protege Z930 Blinking Power Adapter Light

Your notebook has hardware failure and it is sending the hexadecimal code. This code can be read by technicians and they will know what the problem is.
I cannot say for sure but I presume there must be some problem with power supply electronic.

Is the warranty still valid?
