Q: System Diagnostics

Hello all, I have tried to run Lenovo's System Diagnostics and all I see is a message in red telling me that it is running and to wait. Well I waited for an hour and I suspect it was not running at all.I never had to wait this long. Why is this and it is not acceptable?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi rjordan393 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Either that the LSC is not ok or it has encountered issue during the test that was not able to verify.
Try to uninstall it from programs and features under control panel and download a fresh updated copy from the support site and see if that would work.

Likewise for differential comparison you can also use similar test software such as this and this .
Update us how things go.

Hello,   I have an Envy 15t laptop, and the original battery seems to not be functioning properly (the initial charge is quite low and the laptop does not last a long time).  I bought a new battery to remedy this issue, and I was hoping to do a calibration test.  While doing this, I ran into a strange problem.   For some reason, when I try to access the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (by pressing ESC on bootup, followed by F2), it looks different now than it did before (I don't think it's because of the new battery before though, since I still had the old menu even with the new battery at some point).  The old menu used to be more of a GUI style, something like Figure 9 in the following link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03467259 Now though, under HP PC Hardware Diagnostics, it doesn't look like a GUI (it's more text based), and I only have the following options: Memory Test, Hard Drive Check, Language, Exit.  I no longer see a "Components" option, and I certainly cannot access the Battery option from within Components (since the Components option is missing).  Any ideas about why this is the case?  Thank you.

Is there a diagnostic program that can tell me what is going on inside my notebook? I am used to the one that came with my MSI machine that tells you CPU/GPU temp, fan revs etc. I suspect fan in this notebook is not working or is it not fitted with a fan? Also is anyone aware if win10 update can be turned off. I have totally had it well and truly that every update totally trashes the machine each and every time the download installs. I am sick of losing my 3rd party software and my data. This laptop will go into orbit on the end of my boot if it doesn't stop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have no control over when it decides to update and I can be right in the middle of things and down it goes never to restart again until factory reset.

I bought this because MSI like to play funny buggers with that machine. It has now gone back for 3 warranty repairs and now is back there again as they damaged it last time they had it and who knows when I'll see that machine again!

I left it upside down with a paper towl on the keyboard and when I woke up the keyboard worked fine, but the computer asked if i wanted to do a diagnostic. I figured why not and ran it. It said yes. After the diagnostic though the computer turned off and it won't turn back on. I push the power button and all it did was flash 5 times and nothing happened. Any ideas.

Hello. I would like to make an inquiry concerning system diagnostics for my computer system. I run a Windows 10 Home (Ver. 1703, OS Build 15063.483) on a ThinkPad T450s (under a 4-year warranty that'll expire on July 20 2019). I have recently run a System Diagnostics for my system and found issues regarding two storage tests (the tests being for Targeted Read Test & SMART Short Shelf Test for Storage 'device' WDC WD10JPVX-08JC3T5 - 931.51 GBs; the report is attached for reference). I was wondering if I should be concerned over those failed tests. I would like to know as the end results report state that my computer is 100% functional, even though it doesn't display the one storage 'device' with the two failed tests. Any help/suggestion/advice on the case would be appreciated!

Check in event viewer by typing eventvwr in search. Look in windows logs, application tab.

You are looking for critical errors (they have red in the left column) that have app hang, app crash, or anything relating to the problem.

When you find them pplease note the event ID and source code and tell us what they are.

Let us know if you need help with any of these

My hard drive failed and I've taken it out to prevent further damage to the data. I want to keep using my computer with a Linux live USB while I wait for a new drive. When I turn on the laptop, I can press escape to bring up the startup menu and F9 is listed as boot device options and F10 is listed as BIOS. If I choose any option, no matter which one, the computer opens System Diagnostics. If i press F9 or F10 during boot, I see the text pop up acknowledging the action, but still get System Diagnostics. I bought this computer new from Amazon, it has never been configured by any kind of IT department, it is simply locking me out of the BIOS and boot order for unknown reasons. I do not have anything the computer came with, so I'd need a link to an ISO if your suggestion involves a disk. Ideally, there is some inane secret combination of button pushing and holding that will either allow me to change the boot order or boot directly from USB. Thanks in advance for your help.

The diagnostics feature did not offer any more info about the failure or possible fixes. Does anyone know more about this test/failures/fixes? Thanks

Does all the RAM show at startup, or when you rightclick My Computer, and choose Properties?

It may mean that the stick that you have just added is failing. Can you check by pulling out the one you have just added, and then re-running the program?

The Reliability and Performance Monitor found in Vista keeps a heap of data sets for response times, processes, configuration data, diagnostics, debug logs, registry keys and performance counters. This tool will help you diagnose windows errors, slow performance or anything else you would like it to help you track down.

1. Open the Start-Menu and search for Performance Monitor.
2. In the performance monitor there is a folder called "Data Collector Sets" found in the left open it and click "System"
3. Here you will find some default diagnostic tools to run on your vista machine, just right-click the name and click start, scroll down to the Reports folder to view your results.

You can also add your own customised monitors under the Data Collector sets folder for a more complete view of the systems performance handling, Just remember too many sets might slow your system down and vista allready runs a Reliability Monitor every hour.

This tool will point anyone in the right direction to solve issues they are having with vista or the hardware, Include the report in a support request and it can help diagnose the problem very quickly. Its proberly the most usefull feature found in vista.

Hello, I'm the process of trying to de-brick this EliteBook 8640p that was working just yesterday, but I decided it was time for a re-format.  I went into the BIOS settings and noticed an option called 'Safe Erase'... and I decided to perform it. After the process was complete, understandably there was no OS found. The next step (I thought) was to add bootable media (DVD-ROM or Flash Drive, I tried both) to install a new OS. After tweaking the 'Legacy Boot' settings by putting USB Flash Drive at the top, I rebooted -- and it didn't load from the removable media. I tried checking the BIOS settings again, but every time I press ESC, F9, etc. during the POST, it redirects me to 'system diagnostics', which has been extremely unhelpful since all it offers me is a few diagnostic scans (they all pass, by the way). I'm not ever able to get back to the BIOS settings. This would be day 2 of my adventure, yesterday I tried updating/reinstalling the BIOS using a Flash Drive, but the utilities provided by HP all crashed when they were about to create the BIOS update drive. I tried moving basically every .bin file I could find (there isn't a single Phoneix Bios file that I could find) onto a freshly-formatted (FAT32, 4MB block size, 2 GB capacity) Flash Drive. Booting normally with the flash drive in keeps bringing me back to the 'system diagnostics' screen, over and over again. Something quite odd happens when I try initiating the BIOS recovery routine with Win + B -- when ... My puter has been giving me error messages that I didn't have enough RAM to open some pages on the internet, so I did what any self respecting gameaholic would do, I went and bought more. I installed 768 SDRAM. And low and behold, I now have lots and lots of memory and no longer get those pesky little messages. However, when I check settings to see the performance of my new memory, it says that I only have 62% of the RAM available. This is with no windows open, I'm not on the internet, nothing. How could this be?..Is there a diagnostics program I can run that will tell me what hog is in my RAM? (no pun intended)...my system is a Windows 98 with a Pentium II. I read extensively on my mb to get the correct memory, so I don't think that is the problem...what the heck could it be?

any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

JA8231 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!Wish I had good news for you, but I don't ... The UEFI diagnostics you refer to are linked to the Win8.1 page for your PC, but NOT to the Win10 page: http://h20565.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/readIndex?sp4ts.oid=5229456&swLangOid=8&swEnvOid=4158 This could be a simple oversight by HP, in which you could then download and install the diagnostics from the Win8.1 page.  Or, it could more likely be that those do not work in Win10 -- in which you're then out of luck. My suggestion is to try downloading and install them anyway, they might just work.Good Luck

such as, software that scans everything such as the voltages on any sensor and any possible piece of hardware,What is being stored and can be "rescued" from any device connected to the said computer/s

and so on.. does anyone know of anything like this?

With all the different Hardware and Software manufacturers out there, and all the make and models of components within all the different computers, you won't find any 1 program capable of reading everything. Closest thing I have seen would be the Ultimate Boot CD which contains dozens of freeware programs for hardware diagnosis, but nothing really for software.

At Build this year, we gave a sneak preview of a set of new APIs designed to provide diagnostic information about running apps. You can see the videos here and here ? but note that these were based on a pre-release implementation. So, while the Build videos are still correct on broad functionality, the final API names are almost all slightly different. Plus, we added a couple of extra features after Build.

The final versions for the upcoming release are available in the Insider builds from Build 16226, along with the corresponding SDK.

At a high level, these APIs allow an app to:
Enumerate a list of running apps, including UWP apps, Win32 apps, system services and so on.
For each app, get process-specific metrics on:
Memory usage (private commit and working set).
CPU usage.
Disk reads and writes.

For each UWP app, get additional metrics on:
Memory usage (including shared commit) equivalent to the Windows.System.MemoryManager report previously available to an app for its own usage.
State info: running, suspending, suspended, not running.
Energy quota info: under or over.
Enumerate a list of any background tasks that are active for the app, including name, trigger type and entry point.
Enumerate all the processes for the app (using an enhancement to the existing Windows.System.Diagnostics.ProcessDiagnosticInfo class that was previously restricted to an app for its own usage).
The API has a simple hierarchical structure:
The AppDiagnosticInfo type represents a single ... Read more

What could explain why a major tech company would only offer bootable floppy diagnostics for all of their drives old and new? I mean they literally repeat the floppy download on every single model's Downloads page. Does that strike anyone else to be as mammoth as Support incompetence can get?

A:Where did WD links to CD Diagnostics go?

Hey Greg,

It seems that you have to look up the model number at WD for the drive first before seeing the downloads for Data Lifeguard.WD Support / Downloads / Select Product
Here's an example:

(dos)
WD Support / Downloads / SATA & SAS / WD VelociRaptor

(Windows)
WD Support / Downloads / SATA & SAS / WD VelociRaptor

I have recently started back my old computer with a new hard drive and 2 8800 nvidia gts graphics card. When i first started to boot my computer up i get the blue screen after it tells me to repair or start windows normally. Then it would restart and repeat the same process. If i select start normally it gets the blue screen as the windows 7 icon is appearing. For me to get my computer to start working or not get the blue screen i either have to pres DEL to go to the start up menu and boot from there for pres F8 to choose a boot device, then after a few tries it loads up. But whenever i turn my computer off it repeats the same process. It eventually turns on but today it took me about 10 minutes to keep trying and i dont know exactly what is wrong with my computer. Please help.

What is the difference(s) between the 40 Minute "Full Test" Diagnostics run online on the Dell website at http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-support/servicetag/CQ37W52/diagnose?s=BSD and the Diagnostics run via Dell Support Assist software (10 Minute "Default" Scan & 15 Minute "Stress Scan" = Total of 25 Minutes)?
Since the Dell Support Assist Diagnostics are only 25 Minutes total, that is 15 Minutes less time (37.5% less time) than the 40 Minutes online Diagnostics.

If a PC freezes, and nothing you do can bring it out of the freeze where all you can do is force it to shut down so you can re-start it... is there a log in Windows where you can go to see if there is an error code of some kind that can hopefully provide a clue as to why the system froze up?

A:PC Freeze Diagnostics

If anything it would be in your event viewer, but I would guess you will not find anything but "unexpected shutdown"

What are you doing when the PC freezes?

I have a Pavilion 17-f010us running Windows 10. I want to run a hardware diagnostic on it, but can't seem to figure out how. On older models running Windows 7 and below, I used to be prompted to hit a specail key during power-up (ESC or F10, etc.) which would take me to a boot menu where I could enter the BIOS or run a diag utility. Can anyone tell me how I'd do it on this one? Thank you in advance.

A:Hardware Diagnostics

Hi, Shutdown the notebook.  Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to enter the Start-up Menu.  From here, you should be able to select the Diagnostic Menu option ( f2 ). Regards, DP-K

If you are referring to the screen where it has Startup Test, etc I would try running some of the tests.

I have a 2007 HP desktop running vista ultimate. I want to add a hp diagnostic (UEFI). This was installed on desktops using a UEFI BIOS since 2009. Will I be able to install it on my computer without causing my bios and computer to malfunction.

A:Solved: diagnostics

What's the model name and model number of that HP?

What's the part/product number(P/N) on it?

---------------------------------------------------------

To my knowledge, you cannot switch a BIOS motherboard over to UEFI.

What "HP Diagnostic" are you referring to?

hi everyone

this is a little hard to explain, but when I opened up my start screen this morning a lot of different apps appeared,
most of them were performance and diagnostics apps. I used one to see if there were any problems with the memory
on my computer, after it had completed and told me that their were no problems, all of the apps disappeared.
Can anyone explain were the apps came from and why they all disappeared.

regards calmat

A:diagnostics apps

Hello Calmat,

Were they the Administrative Tools?
Administrative Tools - Hide or Show in Windows 8
If not, then please go ahead and post a screenshot showing them if they show again to see if it may help.

Hope this helps for now,
Shawn
