I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Google has been redirecting, google images will only load a certain number of images and internet explorer opens randomly, when I do not even have it installed or use it. Also, phantom music/ads/speaking play when no programs or windows are open. I have run rkill, MalwareBytes and TDSS killer with no infected files being found. And that's where the extent of my knowledge runs out! You guys have helped me fix everything else, but now I finally need to post as I cannot finx this one based on other advice.

My problem is two-fold. I am running Internet Explorer 5.5 and Outlook Express on a Windows 95 machine. Recently, I have been unable to double-click on my Internet Explorer icon to open it. When I right-mouse-button click on the icon and select "Open Home Page" nothing happens. However, when I right-mouse-button click and select "Open" or "Explore" it works. My other problem, which I believe is related to the first, is that when I am in Outlook Express and click on a URL in an email, internet explorer doesn't open. Any ideas?

Hi there,

I recently had various malware on my computer which I removed (at least partialy) using RKill and Malwarebytes.

I was still having trouble with my searches being redirected in IE. So I downloaded and ran the software on your preparation page ie. gmer, DeFogger etc. (I have posted the scan logs).

Although Malwarebytes is no longer finding anything harmful, neither IE nor Firefox will now open. And on trying restore the system to an earlier point (both in and out of safe mode), I'm told there have been no changes made, and the system cannot restore. Hope this is all relevent...

Many thanks,

Tom

H this is my first post here. I am running windows XP SP2, and earlier today when i rebooted my computer and tried to open I.E it did not open at all. This is very strange as it usually take IE about less then 30 seconds to open. Now i am on the internet using another browser and when i try to click on My Computer icon on the desktop, the desktop refreshes and does not open the My Computer Icon. Now it is strange because it opens exe files from desktop.

What should i do, and is there any opinons/thoughts on how to remove it? BTW i am running 2 scans, Windows Live Safety Center, and SpyHunter.

Let me know,
Thanks
Alex

I run XP Pro SP2 on a Sony Vaio and have suddenly lost access to Internet Explorer 6.0.2900.2180, as well as to Windows Explorer, Control Panel and a few of my other applications like Photoshop. When I click on them, the hard drive light comes on continuously for up to a minute, then goes out. However, MS Word/Office are thankfully OK and I've backed up all their files.

I can now only get Internet via an old version of Firefox. It was not possible to restore the system to a previous date in normal mode so I got into Safe Mode via F8 and tried there. It tries to restore but I end up with a permanent blank screen headed "System Restore". I can return to normal mode and again the same programs do not load - and that's after trying them from the task bar, desktop icons and the programs list.

The Microsoft Help Center doesn't cover the problem of complete loss of access, so I don't know where to turn to for help.

I also suspected overheating of the microprocessor (I'm sweltering in Spain) but I've now ruled that one out. And in case you wonder, it's a permanent setup - not transit damage!

I use Avast, regularly updated, so a virus shouldn't be the problem. I receive all Microsoft updates. Have I lost access to part of my hard disk perhaps? Should I install Explorer 7?

A:Internet Explorer 6.0 not opening at all

Hello ims to TSF,

A couple of suggestions here:

1. Try installing Mozilla? Firefox as a web browser, and see if that helps to get you onto the Internet.
I am fairly certain that Microsoft? have ceased supporting IE6, and most websites have been upgraded to accept only the latest editions of all browsers.

2. You really need to Update your Windows? XP SP2 to SP3 + plus all the security updates; furthermore, the latest version of IE is IE8 for XP or IE9 for higher versions (like Windows?7).
There are a number of updates for Windows? XP including a newer Service Pack 3.
At a rough guess it will take you perhaps 2? hours or more depending on the speed of your Internet connection to download and install these important updates and fixes.
Not updating your Windows? XP is leaving you open to vunerability to malware/viral infections.
What Anti Virus program are you using, and when did you last; do an update of its definitions; and run a full system scan, or do you not have an AV program installed?

Please post back with this information.

Kind Regards,

I have a strange problem. Running I.E. 6 and 7 I have a couple internal databases that require logins on different ips on our internal network for example 12.10.x.x would be one if I type the ip into the internet explorer address bar IE" http://12.10.x.x It gives me error 400 bad request. I can leave the http:// off same thing. However if I go to start run and type iexplore 12.10.x.x Boom comes right up no problem. However set a favorite and try to reaccess it does not work gives me the same error 400 bad request.

Any ideas as to why it will let me open them up with start run but not from the IE address bar. As for right now. Im using firefox as a work around but I really dont want to install it on 500 plus computers.

Thanks!!

A:Internet Explorer Opening by itself!

bump===========Hello While we understand your frustration at having to wait, please note that Bleeping Computer deals with several hundred requests for assistance such as yours on a daily basis. As a result, our backlog is quite large as are other comparable sites that help others with malware issues. Although our MRT Team members work on hundreds of requests each day, they are all volunteers who work logs when they can and are able to do so. No one is paid by Bleeping Computer for their assistance to our members.Further, our malware removal staff is comprised of team members with various levels of skill and expertise to deal with thousands of malware variants, some more complex than others. Although we try to take DDS/HJT logs in order (starting with the oldest), it is often the skill level of the particular helper and sometimes the operating system that dictates which logs get selected first. Some infections are more complicated than others and require a higher skill level to remove. Without that skill level attempted removal could result in disastrous results. In other instances, the helper may not be familiar with the operating system that you are using, since they use another. In either case, neither of us want someone to assist you who is not familiar with your issue and attempt to fix it.We ask that once you have posted your log and are waiting, please DO NOT "bump" your thread or make further replies until it has been responded to by a member of the MRT Team... Hello. This is my first time on this website so hopefully I am doing this correctly. I am currently using Mozilla Firefox as my default browser because there were so many pop-ups and glitches with my Internet Explorer (i.e. my wireless keyboard and mouse would not work properly with IE). However, recently, while I am on Mozilla using the internet, my Internet Explorer opens on its own directly to a pop up page. The home page (which I have set to "aboutblank" is not opening. The longer that IE is open and I dont realize it, the more tabs open with more and more pop ups. I have listed all of the sites as "Restricted SItes" but they are still able to open. I have the pop up setting as block all pop ups and it is constantly happening. I now have the IE set on "Work Offline" and for right now it is a temp fix but how can I get this to stop? I have scanned with Norton and it found nothing. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as this is naturally driving me crazy!! Thanks for your time!

A:Internet Explorer Keeps Opening!!

Try using another spyware scanner, Spybot S&D, AVG, SpyWare Terminator. As for your IE, just disable it. Simce your IE opens on its on, that tells me that you have some kind of adware or spyware on your computer and it will eventually get to Firefox.

Yesterday Afternoon I logged on to the computer and started up Firefox.
As soon as It loaded many windows started popping up about a Trojan Worm and trying to show me how to fix it. At first I thought that it was pop ups. I closed all of the windows and resumed browsing the internet. After 20 seconds they all started popping up again. This time just to be safe i ran Spyware Doctor and it also showed that their was a Worm and it was in the High category.
Shocked with this I quickly ran an Intelli-Scan which just scans through the most common places viruses are found. After it finished it said that all viruses and infections were gone. But the pop ups didn't stop. So this time I ran a Full Scan and after completion it said the same thing and this time the pop ups did stop.
I thought it was all over, but for the past day and a half, Internet Explorer 7 keeps opening every 20 seconds and is getting very frustrating as I have to keep closing it and makes my computer run slow.
I don't even use IE7 as I use Firefox..
pls help.
Thanks

Have these instructions printed or in a convenient Notepad (or Wordpad) file so you can view them in Safe Mode. Hi - hoping for some technical advice here. I am fairly computer savvy but not what I would deem tecnhical.
On my laptop IE and iTunes will not open/load. I think this may be Malware related as a pop up box opened last night when I was surfing the net.
Other programs work, such as documents & files (anything local on the disc). But where an internet connection is required nothing loads up. I click on the relevant program and it looks like it is going to load as normal (for a split second) but then disappears.

Any advice?

Thanks, Glen.

This morning walked in to home office and there was video playing on an open web page. Multiple pages were open. Last night the only thing open on the computer was Outlook and computer was in sleep mode. I usually use Firefox but IE is also installed and used occasionally. Running on Windows 7

This follows a long list of virus infections I have encountered this summer. After taking computer on a 6 hour drive to have the institution I work for look at the computer I found I had better success following tutorials on this site. I have been infected with Security Shield but after removal still had redirect problems when using google. Then had File Recovery Virus - after removed this things were better until this week computer would suddenly just shut down (no blue screen). In middle of working in various documents (word, excel, outlook) or just searching internet screen went black and it turned off - but upon hitting power button turned back on (not in safe mode).

Now IE has windows popping open randomly and completely by themselves.
These two issues may be completely separate - so sorry if they are.
Malwarebytes found nothing today and I haven't tried anything else. Decided to seek help instead.
All of these problems started after we switched internet services - not sure if that is a coincidence or not. I've never had an issue with viruses on my work laptop (and I have worked from home with a work issued laptop for a long time). Although I used to access th... Read more

Okay so for a while I have been having multiple BSODs and in an attempt to fix the problem I've deleted a few programs including Google chrome. The reason is because without it even being opened it was saying it was crashing so yeah. Anyway after uninstalling chrome I wanted to reinstall it but IE wouldn't open at all. I turned on enable enhanced protected mode under advanced, after finding it on a forum and while IE now does open no matter what url I put in no content will show whatsoever. I've tried adding sites to compatability view but nothing works. I beg for help because the pc is only a few months from being bought new.

A:internet explorer 11 not opening any websites

Hi and welcome to Sevenforums,
First please use these instructions for the bsod,
Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions

I wouldn't download Chrome just yet,
To download some scanners to look for infections,
You can use safe mode with networking,
But again Do Not download Chrome,

Safe mode with networking,
Shut down your machine, Unplug-Hold the power button down for 30/45 seconds (Power Drain)
If using a laptop remove the battery then use the power drain,
Power up and Tap the F8 key continuously until you see a black page with white text,
Use the down arrow key to toggle to safe mode with networking/ hit the enter key.
Login as usual

Repeat the scans starting normally post the scan results,
Review Jacee?s instructions to run Adwcleaner here post #7,
Ignore the title of the thread,
Instant Savings App
Screen shot of the download button to use for Adwcleaner
You can use these free tools to see if they find anything,
Manually Update them before running full scans,
Try not to use your computer while the scans are running, (one at a time of course).
Uncheck the box to Activate the Free trial from the final install options,

I had the virus last Monday, cleared it off, downloaded the MS patch and all seems well. But when I try to go to Internet Explorer it starts to open up but about 1/3 of the way it stops and just sits there. The progress bar goes to about 4 bars (out of 10). I'm running a 8 month oud Dell P-4, Windows XP, with a broadband connection (RoadRunner). NOTE: I can get on the internet with Netscape, it works fine.

My broadband tech could not get my computer to "ping", this is probably related to the IE connection problem.

I tried to reload IE6, but my computer won't let it run, says:setup has detected a newer version of IE installed, cannot continue setup". So I can't replace IE6 at this time (my IT skills are small, maybe there is a way I don't know of).

Any Suggestions??

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. It is possible that you may be running Java code in your applications that absolutely require a specific version of the JRE to run.

Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.

Updating Java:

Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.

Thanks for reading this message - I hope you can help. I'm not the most technologically minded so I hope I explain everything okay!

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 Vista Home Premium laptop (I've had it about 9 months) and just the other day I noticed that when I went to click the IE icon on the quick launch task bar it went to the blue circle thing for a second but then nothing - usually it opens straight away to my homepage. It came up with a message saying it couldn't find my homepage - www.bbc.co.uk

I tried to click the icon a few times and eventually it opened - since then it has always been the same - not opening straight away - taking several clicks to open it.

I've tried opening IE through the other icons available and it is the same. I use Bitcomet to download files and when I try and open a link to Isohunt/Pirate Bay etc. it states that windows cannot find the website - it has never done this before.

I haven't done anything to the laptop and have tried virus and adaware scans and they've come up with nothing - I think I've got IE8 aswell.

Do you have an idea of how I can fix the problem? I am clueless as to what to do - it's not a major problem because it still opens but there's no reason why it should have changed and it's bugging me!
