Preferred Solution: Anyone have a T580 yet?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi everyone, basically I have the same problem as previously mentioned in other threads, but the solution providied, isn?t applicable for my case. The fan turns on if  you?re only webbrowsing or doing some editing work in word, which obviously shouldn?t be the case.I run Win10 Pro. All updates and drivers seem up to date, at least Win10 says so.How do I check if it?s really the case? BIOS is 1.09. Setting the battery plan doesn?t have an effect. Coming from a reddit post, ist was suggested, that I should ask @someotherguy if a solution he proposed for other models, also works for T580. Everything is explained in the following reddit  thread. http://reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comments/8f24ki/t580_fan_turning_on_cpu_10/dy1cw9u Help would be greatly appreciated. Please note, that I am not as tech?savvy as you are, so please keep it in mind, if you?re answering(read: talk to me like i?m an idiot ) ?

I have a brand new T580 in front of me. I am trying unsuccessfully to boot it from a USB stick. In case it makes any difference I am trying to do this before ever booting into Windows. Here is what I have tried. First attempt: Power On; Hit Enter at Lenovo splash screen; Hit F12 at Startup Interupt Menu; Select my USB drive from list; Hit Enter; screen goes back for about one second and then the F12 menu reappears like nothing happened. Force power off by pressing and holding the power button. Second attempt: Power On; Hit Enter at Lenovo splash screen; Hit F1 at Startup Interupt Menu; to eter the BIOS Setup. Disable secure boot (Security > Secure Boot). Save (F10); repeat first attempt. Same result. Third attempt: as before except that I additionally set Startup > UEFI/Legacy Boot to Both and tried again. Same result. Fourth attmpt: as before except that I changed the boot priority to put legacy first. Same result. Fifth attempt: as before except that I set  Startup > UEFI/Legacy Boot  to Legacy Only. Same result. The USB stick has Grub on it and boots Linux distributions. It works in about a dozen other machines that I use it on regularly.  I tried two separate USB sticks and I tried both USB ports on the right-hand side of the computer. If I can't get this to work then it's going back. I am stuck. Please help!

Hello, sorry for posting these basic questions but I've done some research and I want to make sure that I make the right decision when buying a new T580. I've been out of the loop in tech for a few years now, and I'm just learning now about hardware BIOS whitelists, etc. I want to buy the most basic T580 model and make sure I can upgrade certain components later on when I have the money available to do so.  1) Can I upgrade the basic model with the i5-8250u / 4GB RAM to 16GB of RAM later on? PSREF says yes, up to 32GB, and I've watched videos that say there are two slots for RAM available. Just want to make sure there is not any limitation and that I can upgrade later on to at least 16GB. 2)I already have a Samsung SSD - SATA III 2.5 inch. Since this model has a 2.5 drive I assume I can replace it with mine. But am I limiting myself in anyway for future updates if I don't get one of the NVME drives now? 3) I would possibly like to get the WWAN card later on. Is it possible to buy and add one later on?  4) Will this computer run dual 4k external monitors, should I ever get them?  Since money is very tight, my only priority right now would be to get the stuff I cannot add later on (3840 x 2160 screen, possibly graphics card but would have to bump up to 8350u).  Thanks!

I'm about to order a T580 today and I see there is a choice of "6cell Battery 48Wh Rear" and "3cell Battery 24Wh Rear". Does anyone own the 48Wh battery for the T580 (or T570) so that they can confirm if the 48Wh batter sticks out at all? I want a battery that does not raise the laptop. Also where can I buy a second (spare) battery that is exactly the same as the "6cell Battery 48Wh Rear" and "3cell Battery 24Wh Rear"? Thanks in advance. (are the fonts readable)2. in reality, how long does the battery last with standard use? (with all types of rear batteries)?3. how is your overall impression of this model? Thanks, Johnny

Please advise if Lenovo can deliver T580 with preinstalled Windows 7 Professional as out of box delivery so save several tinkering hours at user's garage. It had been tremendous performance issues with T570 with Windows 10 resource hog experience. I would not prefer to run Windows 10 again on T580 - high performance machine hogged by Windows 10. If Lenovo could pre-install downgrade option out of the box that would save several hours of research by end users, T580 with Windows 7 would perform more stable and solid provided if they have enabled all the drivers to function properly.  This has been hugely frustrating experiencing to deal with T570 machine running Windows-10 Pro, I had to dump the machine. I dont have much confidence to run T580 on windows 10 pro, it would not even match T520 machine ( 7 years old machine) running on Windows -10. Looking forward for the solution, request Lenovo team to enable Downgrade option as part of the customization to save users's time and stable user experience. If Lenovo Does not deliver out of the box, first thing to do after the machine is to wipe out Windows 10 to install, Please let us know if the drivers available or I would be placing a ticket to go through 100 steps to get it done.  Thank you,Mamba.

First... long time T series user going back to the initial ones. Had been using a T520 up until I finally gave in and purchased a T580 over the BF in July sale. Since I have been using a dock for a long time and like the convenience factor I got the Pro Dock (40AH0135US) to go along with the T580. Long story short... the first T580 arrives with a blown system board. I send it back and 11 days later another T580 arrives. This one boots and has no issues off the dock. It's fast and definitely an upgrade from the T520. First thing I notice in placing it on the dock is that the side mount process is tedious. Reading other posts seems to confirm that experience. It's nowhere near as well engineered as the bottom dock solution and I spend more time trying to insert the dock mechanism than I ever had with the legacy dock solutions. I eventually get things perfectly aligned and power on. Right off the neither external monitor is working. I have two Dell UHD monitors connected to the DP's on the dock and neither comes on. I mess with the cables and nothing, I take the T580 off and re-insert... nothing. I call Lenovo and without even trying to diagnose the issue they issue an RMA for the dock. I get another dock 2 days later and this one works for exactly 1 day. The external monitors work and then 10 hours later when I come home from my job and place the T580 on the dock they don't work. Nothing changes but somehow things are back to not working again. To be clear at no point from powe... Read more

Hello- this is my first post to the Lenovo community forums. I just received a brand-new T580, custom ordered directly from Lenovo. If it matters, this was supposed to have a 500GB spinning disk and 16GB SSD (Intel Optane PCIe). Windows 10 was the only option for pre-installed OS (Professional, in this case). This new machine will not boot and has yet to boot. I received it on a Friday afternoon. Once I unboxed and charged it and tried to boot, tech support conveniently closed for the whole weekend. I opened a ticket in Lenovo's MTSA (yet another account to open), with no response. Now I am turning to the forums. I installed the battery and charged it, then attempted to boot. My first attempt resulted in INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE, then rebooted. The same thing happened again, then started "Automatic Repair" Automatic Repair (a/k/a Startup Repair) did nothing, probably because there is no existing image to revert to or older version of Windows to fall back on. I get the following errors: "System Restore: To use System Restore, you must specify which Windows installation to restore. Restart this computer, select an operating system, and then select System Restore." (Of course, that does not happen-this is a brand-new laptop) Then "Re-image Your Computer: An internal error occurred. The following information might help you resolve the error: STATUS_WAIT_2 (0x80070002)" (Good luck!) I ran all the Lenovo diagnostics, and they all pass with flying colors. I also like that my display... Read more

HelloWould anyone please be able to help with some t580 questions? 1) I wanted to know what the FHD (not UHD) screen is like especially in terms of sRGB, adobeRGB and PWM? If not, are there any comparisons to the T570 FHD screen? 2) the laptop comes with 4 cell 32wh front battery.  The rear battery configurations seem to be- 6 cell 48wh- 3 cell 24wh- 6 cell li-ion 72wh cylindrical  Is the front battery removable? Also the 6 cell 48wh option seems to be cheaper than the 3 cell 24wh - anyone know why this is? The front battery still remains with all of these combinations doesn't it? Thanks

Hi,I have a brand new thinkpad T580.When I am playing audio, I get a random crackle or popping sound. This gets progressively worse the longer I listen. Stopping and restarting the audio seems to resolve the issue temporarily, but after about 10 mins its back. This issue also seems to be worse while charging or if the CPU load is high.Possibly related is the fact that my fan seems to be spinning faster than it should. Im running an SSD so shouldnt be producing too much heat but its always noticable. Assuming it was the media player, I have tried a veriety of players including just playing windows sounds so its not the software. The sound is the same if i use speakers or headphones or laptop speaker,I also have done full driver updates and bios update to latest version. Thanks,

Hey folks,I just purchased a T580 from Lenovo.com this month. I received it and upon opening immediately noticed a continuous sharp edge all along the three sides of the keyboard/computer part of the laptop. The screen is fine, this is only along the edges of the base portion, and not including the back edge where the screen hinges.  The textured surface on top of the base seems to have a sharp, possibly unfinished edge. I have spoken with the support line and haven?t gotten far.  I would like to compare my laptop to a T580 in store but cannot find one.   Its hard to photograph but I think I?ve captured it here just above the fan openings. If you zoom you can see the light from what I call a sharp edge. The fact that there is a change in angle at all in thus location leads me to believe it is a production oversight. I do believe I could whip this unit into shape with an emory board, but why settle for a less than excellent product.  So my question to the forums is, can anyone attest to this being the normal fit and finish for these T580?s?  Is this a problem or is this the expectation. Has anyone else experienced this issue?Zoom to the center of the picture and you can see the sharp edge along the bottom edge of the top piece of material

Hello everyone! I'm new to this forum as I just bought a nice T580 with i7 8550U Intel CPU. So far the machine is amazing, it's my first Lenovo (I'm coming from a MS Surface Pro 3) and I'm happy with it, except for one thing: When AC is plugged on, the CPU clock always goes to max speed (3.8-4.0GHz), even if the load is at 0%. That means that the laptot heats more and the fan kicks in very fast if you start to do something, even if it's only web browsing. That's really annoying.Everything goes back to normal if I unplug AC and work on battery. The CPU immediately lowers the clock, as you can see on my screens. Here are all the tricks I already tried: - Changing power modes by clicking on the battery icon on the desktop. This doesn't do anything when AC is plugged. But this works perfectly if I unplug it.- Resetting the BIOS. No changes.- Changing BIOS AC power settings with the same values as for battery power settings. No changes on Windows 10, still at 100% clock speed.- Restoring Windows 10. 2 times. Still no changes. I even used the Lenovo recovery tool to factory reset it. It's not a software problem as this happens already after the very first startup of Windows 10.- Downgrade the BIOS to rev. 1.06. No changes. I'm currently using the latest 1.09. I don't know what to do now. I asked some people on Reddit and they don't seem to have the problem. T580 (fresh from factory).  Intel(R) UHD Graphics 620 driver (12/27/2017 - 23.20.16.4905).  Intel Core i7 vPro 8th Gen.  Windows 10 64 bit (freshly updated).  Lenovo Vantage system update freshly updated.  (today's date: 4/28/2018) LG display plugged into HDMI port on Thunderbolt adapter which is plugged into the USB-C port on left side.HP display plugged into HDMI port on right side. Either display is detected just fine if I unplug the other one; but when both are present, it only detects one of them. This exact configuration was working fine on my T470, Intel Core i5, vPro, 7th Gen. So, bigger and better (and more $$) is worse. My bet would be on a driver issue.  (Windows won't let me install the Intel April 2018 driver - it says probably because the manufacturer did custom driver coding.)

A:T580 Won't detect a second external monitor

UPDATE: Well, ok, it DOES appear to TRY to "detect" the display when I first plug it in.  But it has no properties (e.g., Resolution) and the #3 icon on the layout panel soon disappears and clicking the Detect button won't bring it back (unless I unplug my other monitor - then it detects fine and works fine).

I've shortlisted the T580 for a purchase, just wanted to ask what Lenovo's attitude to linux installs is. ThinkPads are well supported in Linux but how does that reflect in warranty provision, service etc? (obviosuly, service would not be expected for a custom installed OS like Linux).

I just wonder whether any issues may receive a "Oh, you installed Linux... tut tut... that is the problem." regardless of what issue one might have.

I've read that the fingerprint reader does not work in Linux. Is this still true ? If so, does that affect the NFC ? I ask because I noticed you can't select NFC without the fingerprint reader when configuring the system. I suspect that's because the NFC is provided by the fingerprint reader?

I have a Thinkpad T580 and I have set a HDD password in the BIOS for full disk encryption (FDE). After turning on the machinie, it sometimes asks for the HDD password, sometimes a fingeprint prompt appears. The BIOS accepts both password and fingerprint and the system boots into the OS.My problem is that the BIOS randomly switching between password and fingerprint authentication, but I have no idea why. I would prefer to ask for fingerprint first and switch if it fails few times or when I ask to switch to password authentication. In addition to that there could be option in the BIOS to set the peferred authentication method. So the current behaviour looks like a bug to me unless someone can explain what's going on. Does anyone noticed a similar problem?

I currently have T580 with pre-installed WWAN module (Fibocom L850-GL) and trying to get to work it on Linux. It works perfectly fine on Windows. So far I discovered that Windows driver uses PCIe protocol to communicate with WWAN module, but Linux is supported apparently only through USB protocol, and if PCIe is enabled, the module ignores all USB commands according to its hardware specs document (page 26) - https://www.mev-elektronik.com/files/MEV%20Elektronik%20Service/produkt-downloads/rf-microwave-wirel... Fibocom recommendation is to disable PCIe in BIOS, that is not supported by stock ThinkPad. Thus in Linux the device is only displayed as "Wireless controller: [0d40]: Intel Corporation Device 7360 (rev 01)" through lspci , and nothing on lsusb . Any suggestions how to make it work on Linux? As an alternative I'm considering getting another WWAN module, but it's quite likely it will not work due to whitelists. The only other module that is whitelisted for sure is L830-EB, that does not have global coverage and thus doesn't work in the US or China, even so it was reported that it's Linux-compatible (USB-mode only). Maybe there is a patched BIOS that has whitelists removed? Wondering if there are Linux enthusiasts who are also looking for a way of using WWAN.

Connecting it to one of the Laptops USB ports works makes it work just fine.Connecting one of our cheap default Microsoft mice to the dock also works just fine, but I'd really rather use my Logitech. I tried updating all the firmwares and drivers(OS in use is Windows 10 64bit), but nothing made any difference. The mouse is not only freezing, but judging by the constant device disconnect/connect sounds also completely reconnects every like 30-60 seconds. Using a USB event viewer confirmed that it is indeed the mouse being reconnected.

Hello, There's a bug in the ACPI tables that affects all of the machines listed in the title. The bug causes heavy CPU usage on one thread due to frequent ACPI interrupts. The symptoms are a slow system, and high CPU temperatures (idles around 65 degrees Celsius). Some operating systems may mitigate the symptoms, but the bug is present regardless. The following circumstances trigger it:-powering on the laptop-waking from suspend (and possibly hibernate - untested) The following actions prevent it:-reboot the laptop (temporary fix)-disable thunderbolt in the UEFI settings (permanent fix - with latest UEFI updates) The official UEFI update changelogs for all of these machines make explicit mention of this issue: "-(Fix) Fix an issue where system may become hot by system interrupts when Thundrebolt is disabled in ThinkPad Setup - Security - I/O Port Access." Unfortunately, the bug was not actually fixed. The solution that was implemented is only a bandage for the "disabled" thunderbolt state. This patch should resolve the problem. This patch would then remove the bandage of the official fix, since it should no longer be necessary. I will leave that for your engineers to decide. These patches were made for the T480s, but should apply equally to all affected machines.

Hi  I'm thinking to get T580 with i5-8250U and then maybe upgrade CPU later if I need it and it gets cheaper. Is it possible?I didn't find CPU on the user replacable units list in the manual but I also read that it is possible for some older Txxx. Also - what is your opinion about FHD IPS display in T580? Did it improve compared to previous models (colors, brigtness etc)?  And the last piece - if I order it without WWAN - can I then add the card later or I will still be missing antennas or something else? I would expect to have no issues but I read different opinions on the net. Thanks a lot in advance  Hermez

T580, 512GB SSD, 32GB RAM, non-touch 1080p LCD, USB-C 65W charger. Under high instantaneous load (refresh 10 tabs in firefox in quick succession) thinkpad goes to sleep immediately. So far it happens only when plugged in. Extremely annoying! Both batteries show as "not charging" when plugged in. Power profile set to disable sleep when plugged in.I had to move the slider to "Better performace" to be able to do any work, if set to Max, notebook goes to sleep almost immediately. Original Lenovo Win10 Pro image, updated everything to latest and installed dev tools.Ran prime95 for an hour, doesn't go to sleep. Relevant event log entries below, @lenovo, what is going on? Information 6/18/2018 4:13:36 PM    DPTF    256 GENERALIntel(R) Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework : ESIF(8.3.10208.5644) TYPE: INFO MODULE: ACTION FUNC: ActionSystemSet FILE: esif_uf_action_system.c LINE: 120 TIME: 455649777 msSYSTEM_SLEEP command received - system suspend...Information 6/18/2018 4:13:42 PM    Kernel-Power    42  (64)The system is entering sleep.Sleep Reason: Application API

Ok.. I'll try to keep this breif. I bought this laptop SPECIFICALLY for the capability to run 2 external monitors via Thunderbolt 3. I have spent thousands of dollars on the laptop, monitors, and cables and put hours of research into making sure everything was compatible and it won't work.  My setup is as follows: Thinkpad T580 with TB3 portTB3 to Dual DisplayPort Adapter(x2)Monitors are both 32" Samsung 1080P monitors at 60hz (NOT 4k) Here's what I have done: Updated display drivers directly from Intel(newer than Lenovo provides)Updated BIOSUpdated FirmwareBought MULTIPLE adapters thinking it was possible an adapter problem.Bought MULTIPLE cables thinking it could be a cable problemI called Lenovo tech support and, after 10 minutes of convincing the tech that my laptop even has a TB3 port he obviously was unable to resolve it so I was mailed a new motherboard and a tech came to my house and swapped the board out. Same issue.  The laptop detects only ONE monitor at a time. If I plug them both in to the displayport adapter, one of them will work, the other will say it's not connected. If I unplug the monitor that is on, the previously undetected monitor will immediately be detected and turn on.  If I plug the undetected monitor into the HDMI slot it will detect and output. But this is NOT the functionality that I have spent thousands of dollars for.   I am out of ideas and now quite sure that, even though the marketin... Read more
