I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, Thank you for your help recently. I did what you said to no avail. It says "Could not initialize CLR Unknown Error in the box and the Top of the box says Managed MAPI service catastrophic failure", it pops up over and over again while I have Microsoft Outlook 2003 open. I also have not been able to open email the last few days which is bad for a one person run business.

I just uninstalled Norton, seems like too many problems when I use it.

Off topic what is the best freeware out there for virus and malware control?

Back to the topic,

What should I do to give you the information you need to determine if I have one or many problems? (bad pst file, virus, ect.)

I use Windows XP Professional 2002 with SP2 installed, using Microsoft Business 2003 for software.

This problem has been happening for about one month.

Two months ago, the saving of my pst file and then copying from notebook to desktop and reversed completely failed. Now this stuff is happening.

Please help as soon as possible and tell me what reports I need to give to you.

Using Add/Remove programs does not get rid of everything from Norton. you need to download and run the Norton Removal Tool. After that, download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. Check any box that refers to Norton. Do not check any box that refers to Microsoft Office applications. Run that then see what happens

I am the tech support for my father and I'm having difficulty finding an answer to a problem. Prior to upgrading him from Windows 7 to 10, he could make envelopes in WordPerfect 12 using his address books from SeaMonkey. When choosing the address, his address books from SeaMonkey 2.35 would show in Corel Address Book 8. Now they do not. We reverted back to Windows Seven, but the problem remained. Since the issue occurred with Windows version changes, I logically assume the question belongs here.

I've remoted in and seen the following errors. On the first attempt to open the "Other" address book I see this:There is no email program association to perform the requested action. Please install an email program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel.

This error only appears once unless I exit and restart WordPerfect. When I click okay, I see the following error:MAPI Address Books will not be available. Please check the information services set up in the active user profile and your installation of Windows Messaging.

I've checked and SeaMonkey Mail is the default email client. When checking the association for .mapimail, I changed it to SeaMonkey from Unknown Application, but it did not help. I cannot find a solution anywhere. I've even tried the Mozillazine forum. There have been 1100 views and not a single response. Does anyone have an idea what I can try next?

Hi all....

I have a client using Win 98 Second edition, Outlook 2000 SR-1, and Word 2000 SR-1.

When working in Word, he chooses File, Send to, Mail Recipient (Attachment).....

When he does this, the following errors appear..

First, "The operation failed due to netowrk or other communication problems. Chech your connections and try again"

Click OK, then " The messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If the problem persists restart Outlook"

Click Ok, then "Word couldn't send mail because of MAPI failure: Unspecified error"

Having checked on previous threads, I have not found one that matches this problem, in terms of applications used.

I am getting an error message, Word couldn't send mail because of MAPI failure: "Unspecified error".

I am running Outlook 2000, trying to mail merge, with data from a Access 2000 database, with Word 2000.

Also I have been to Microsoft help files, and they suggest I turn off and then turn back on my API email application. This is not a solution!!!!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm trying to export a database form Act 2000 into Outlook (XP Home 2002).

During this process I receive a message saying "MAPI error 0X8000070057. Please try again".

I receive an additional message saying "A translation step has failed. Do you want to continue with the remaining translation steps?"

If I respond affirmatively, will the result be that some info will not transfer or is some sinister result a possiblity? I can live with missing some info; it's only a databse of 300 records.

First of all, hi everyone I'm new to the boards =) I hope to get some help AND provide help!

Here's my problem:

I'm trying to export my mails from Outlook Express 6.0 but it says that I should set OE6 as my default email and then It says that an error accoured while initializing MAPI...
I tried to change OE6 to be my default mailing problam but it doesn't save the change, every time I close it, it changes to non-default again...

I did search on this topic and found a similar thread here:

I followed the tips you people gave there to no avail!

Then I noticed the last topic with a solution, saying I should rename my MApi32.dll and mapi32.bak files in my system and system32 folders... but I have only mapi32.dll file (no bak file) and only in system folder (there is no mapi file in system32 folder). But there are some other mapi files such as: Mapiform.vbx, Mapisrvr.exe, mapistub.dll etc. etc.

I did try to change the name of mapi32.dll file and then setting OE6 as my default mailing program but it didn't help... maybe I should try to rename all mapi files?

Also, if there's no other solution, is it ok if I simply copy the folder where the mails are:
C:\WINDOWS\application data\Identities\{BAA29280-95FD-11D7-BD8F-DDC1C387EA54}\Microsoft\Outlook Express\

and will I be able to import it later?

Thanks in advance

The only time I've ever seen this --

Config: NT4 Wkstn, SP6a, Ofc2K SR-1, IE 5.01, all "critical" updates from windowsupdate.microsoft.com installed, Outlook 2K set to use Exchange 5.0 server.

Problem: In IE5, if you click Mail/Send Link or Mail/Send Page, you get - "An error occurred while attempting to open the Windows Address Book MAPI 1.0 (00000220)".

Same error occured before all following updates: IE 5-to-5.01, OFC2K-to-SR1, "critical" updates from MSoft.

Steps Taken: Made Outlook Express default, then back to Outlook; added new user & Outlook profile; checked existing .wab file (ok); ran fixmapi.exe; compared mapi32.dll files to working equivalent (same);

Note: Have many other equivalent PCs but NEVER seen this problem before...

Thanks in advance for any leads or strategies. -David-

I'm attempting to import a database into Outlook from ACT 2000.

As I begin the process I receive a message sayng "MAPI error 0X80070057 has occured. Plesae try again."

I then receive a message saying "A translation step has fialed. Do you want to continue with the remianing tanslation steps?"

If I continue with the process, will I just end up missing some of the data, or is something more sinister in the background? The database has only 300 records, so I can manually check it for important data.

A:Importing databse into Outlook from ACT/MAPI error

This is usually some corrupt or incompatible data.

It could something as simple as an Email address that's not a real address (like a space) or it could be a bad character in another field.... or could be some damage in the database.

Trying to export outlook express 6 message to another

does not appear, only error.

I tried to copy these messages to a temp file and then

after selecting "Import Mail for an OE6 Store Directory"

Any Ideas?

A:Unable to export Outlook Express 6 - MAPI error?

I had a similar problem today, while trying to export from Outlook Express 5.00. Googling for a fix returned results saying "turn off MAPI and export will work fine," but in both OE 5 and OE 6, the checkbox to disable MAPI is not present in the appropriate menu.

Further, disabling OE as the default mail handler (mentioned in threads and bulletins elsewhere as a fix for this problem in OE 5 and/or 6) did not fix this problem.

Here's a workaround for this problem:

1) Navigate to directory where Outlook Express(old) keeps your message files. Cant find it? Go to Tools-->Options-->Maintenance-->Store Folder and the path will be displayed.

2) Copy the contents of this directory (files will look like "folder_name.dbx") somewhere you can get to later

3) Run Outlook Express(new) and start making folders whose name matches each .dbx file you just copied. Or rename OE's folders to match .dbx files, your choice.

4) Repeat step 1 in OE(new)

5) Paste your .dbx files from the old version of OE into this directory. Use common sense when overwriting folders.

6) Restart OE(new) and your old messages should be migrated onto the new system.

This worked fine for me, but no promises it'll work for you. Have fun and remember to make backups!

Gmail is my only eMail program.
When I have Word document I do following
File > Save&Send > Send using email > Send as attachment
I get error
Word couldn't send mail because of MAPI failure:"Unspecified error".
This error can occur if you attempt to send a Word document as an e-mail attachment in Word and the MAPI session was closed and Word is no longer able to connect to that MAPI session.
It can also occur if there is a problem with the fax configuration.
To correct a MAPI related error: restart the MAPI e-mail program (for example,Outlook) or save and close the document, and then restart Word after restarting your MAPI e-mail application.
Word will establish a new MAPI session, allowing the document to be sent.
I tried having gmail open in the background, but got same result
How do I fix this ?

Have you tried going to Start> Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Computer Management. It sounds like there's a corrupted file or a service is denying you access. You are the Administrator of windows? After trying the first scenario go to Start>Run and type services.msc and when the services window opens make sure Event Log, Windows Management Instrumentation(WMI), and Remote Procedure Call (RPC) are started and not disabled. I have a relatively new install of windows because I formatted a few weeks ago so I had a clean start with my new hardware. The only problem it seems is before I could get antivirus and things patched a virus or something caught me.

I dont think my computer is updating anymore and some applications have recently started to crash and my computer has sporadically turned off a few times this week and the temps were fine so i know it was not that.

I can not get to the microsoft update website, because when I try to go there firefox will open and direct me to the site.

I was getting an error on startup saying rundll32 could not find a file that AVG deleted and the files was called dll32 and sm. I will work on finding out what it used to be called.

I have an application called Prio installed which is a great extension to task manager that expands it abilities and it showed that I have unsigned versions of svchost, alg, and wimprvse running and some other unverified processes that are running under system.
The other suspicious proccess is unsecapp.exe

There are also quite a few open connections sitting on listen for my computer if needed I can put up a wireshark analysis.

Right now I have AVG, ad-aware, a-squared, and Secunia PSI installed.
A-squared pick up some files that AVG seemed to miss yesterday when I installed it so that got me concerned with AVG.

Thank you in advance.

Did you create the database? If not go to the database creater / administrator, otherwise cut out all the sensitive data, and attach a copy to this thread. It's probably something to do with the way the database is set-up.

Haven't come across this myself, may be a common known issue.

a requirement to have a specific type of email associated with the Microsoft account in order to get past this?

I recently upgraded to Win 10, also installed Office 2016 Pro Plus. My Brother all in one printer scanned to email easily on Win 7, no longer does, Brother could not figure it out. I tried sending to email from Word, get "mapi failure, unspecified error".
Hoping that if I can solve this, scan to email will also work.
I have researched this issue for many hours, can find no solutions that are not old ones, referring to files and directories that do not exist. Tried renaming mapi32.dll (after installing the "take ownership" app.), to no avail. It never gets reinstalled. Tried copying it from a newer laptop, still no joy.

Using Windows Live mail client, set as default in Windows 10.

Most of the posts I can find on the internet regarding the mapi failure are for older systems, this is very new Windows 10, and new Office 2016.

Very disappointed in Microsoft issuing new software that will not work together!

Hello. I created a database, which is split between front end and back end. I was able to make copies of the database and have it tailored to each of our branches. However, in the branches, 2 out of 3 branches are giving me an error on the fields which pull the "Current User" and the "Date/Time". I would suspect there is a field being mapped to a field/variable of the wrong type. Do you have an aggregate function on a non-numeric field that's mapping into a field of the same type as the original instead of a numeric field that would hold the result of the aggregate?

Hi, I am at the moment creating a database of information and I was wondering the best way to go about this. I am importing loads of tables from excell to access and I want them to link up for a search function to filter out all datafiles over a certain age into a query you can search for. At the moment I have them all in one table with queries to search for certain things but I think there has to be a better way. Suggestions? thanks a lot, K.

Hello, I have another problem that I just can't figure out.

I have a query table that I would liek to be able to send as an e-mail. But here is the thing. I have a button on a form that just opens up the query table, but what I would like the button to do, is to make the e-mail pop-up (Outlook2007 at home, GroupWise at work) and put the query data in the message. Basically, when you click the button, I want this:

Subject: "Good morning"
Message: "(My query table here)"

I found a code elsewhere on the internet but I got code errors. I then fixed the errors but then the button simply did nothing.

If anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it.

Many Thanks in advance

Does anyone know where I can find a templete for Microsoft Access for a "Check Registry"? I now use excel, but I would rather use Microsoft's Access, so I can do better reporting and entering on a form for "deposits", and "checks". I want the system to automatically subtract the totals as I go along like I do in excel. I used Microsoft suite Access 2000. Thanks Silverado.

I have a small problem with Microsoft Access. We have an Access database on our server that is utilized by our company. We have approximately 15 computers that access this database locally and approximately 5 that access it remotely via Terminal Services. Why is it that the Terminal Services users can use the database with more speed than the local users that are directly connected?

I am in the process of developing an Access 2003 application, and almost done. While I was fixing some errors with controls on one of the reports, seems like the database corrupted. Now, I keep getting "microsoft office access has detected corruption in this file....etc". It instructs me to Compact & Repair, but when I get the same error message when I try that. If I open a blank database & try to import objects from the corrupted database, I cannot access/view the objects of the corrupted file from the blank database. Unfortunately, I dont have a backup of the file, I can try to restore to an earlier storage point (using System Restore), but will lose considerable work. Any ideas?
