I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Accidentally disabled my display driver

This is critical issue.

First, since the laptop is new, your laptop would be covered in warranty. Just visit the nearest authorized hp service center and get it fixed or get a replacement. You can get the list of authorized hp service center from hp.com for your location. If you have accidental coverage of warranty, then not to worry about the smashed screen at all.

If you are out of warranty, visit a technician/service center. Charges apply.

To fix the HDMI / VGA - display driver issue, you need to try these workarounds.

You just had to do a hard boot and it'll boot in Safe mode. Then go to Device Manager and enabled the driver again.
Try doing a power cycle.
Remove ac adapter and then remove battery.

Now, press and hold power button for 90 seconds to release the charge in the capacitors
Replace power sources[Put the battery and Connect Ac Adapter].

Then Reboot.

If both the options didn't work, visit a technician/service center. Charges may apply.

I just recovered from accidentally disabling my display adapter (*****). I logged into linux to get on the net and found the thread solved by Spike and also by glowingnissan07 on this issue and found that neither of these threads solved the problem exactly. Spikes solution finally ended up working with one change and I thought I would post it here in case anyone else had the same gut wrenching experience (thanks Microsoft).

Phenomena: accidentally disabled the display adapter and after the XP loading screen you get nothing. Dead monitor. Safe mode hangs each time and "VGA Mode" does nothing different.

Solution: Here is Spikes original solution (thanks Spike) with a note for step 5. Also beware of "found new hardware" wizard etc popping up at system startup interfereing with these instructions. I recommend pressing alt-f4 a few times after startup to make sure any startup programs get closed and then doing these instructions. Good Luck.

Log in. If you log in automatically, all well and good. if not...

1, use the up and down arrow keys to go to your user, and hit enter to select. if you normally have to enter a password, then do it now, and hit enter again.

2, press and hold the windows key, and tap 'R' (this is the keyboard shortcut to the run box)

3, type "devmgmt.msc" (without the quotes) and hit Enter (this opens device manager)

4, wait a few moments to make sure device manager is open, and then hit the TAB... Read more

I read a tutorial on navigating through start-up and login when theres no screen. I'm sure it was in this help forum. I'll get back to you when I remember where I read it. In the mean time, search the tutorials here. You you may find your answer.

Oh, and have you tried to boot in safe mode? It boots with much lower resolution, so you may be able to reinstall the display driver that way...if that is in fact the issue. Just a thought.

You're gonna love this one. Lots of quirks along the way.

So, get a laptop from my mom. It was her old one. It had been wiped clean. It came preloaded with Vista, she put XP on it and got frustrated and gave it to me.

All the drivers worked great except the graphics driver. From searching, it appears to be an NVidia Go7 series. (Believe 7200.)

I tried the full install from NVidia and the short driver install from HP (the only one for this laptop) no luck. Keeps telling me no drivers are recognized.

In my hissy fit, I turned off the vgasafe in properties>Settings>Advanced>Monitor.

Okay, no graphics at all. Runs great still. I use narrator and go into the same settings, but as I go through, I hear my monkey man speak out that the resolution is 96x96x96 with no options. I continue to advanced, where there's... nothing. The advanced button no longer works. So I head to the run command and bring up the Device Manager to enable that way. Display Adapter is gone completely. I even did a walkthrough to enable from the display Device Manager.

I try all the boot modes, my BIOS has no area for graphics settings. Safe with/out command sticks at mup.sys. The other modes leave me black screened.

I go back in, try to install basic and NVidia drivers from a CDRom, with Narrator's help again. Still says no hardware for NVidia found and the other kept erroring out.

Here's the quirks:
I have no Win CD. I just got it, Ma tra... Read more

Good day all I have installed Windows 10 Pro 64-bit on an old Lenovo G550. It used to work well on Windows 7, but now I cannot install or update the display drivers in order to connect an external display (LG 49" TV) at 1920 x 1080. Windows installed its own useless drivers that obtains at least 1366 x 768 on both the laptop and the TV when displays are duplicated. Then the highest I can go is 1366 x 768. When I select "Show only on 2" (which is essentially what I want to do), it goes down to an even worse display resolution, but this also disables the Resolution drop-down.  I have downloaded every version of drivers know to God and man from Lenovo's and other sites, but all of them tells me: "This computer does not meet the minimum requirement for installing software." I have deleted the driver and reinstalled via "Scan for hardward changes" as well. I have done a Windows update as well. I have no idea what to do next. How do I fix this stupid problem? Please help me. Thank you in advance.Kind regardsRenier

Hi guys, i would really like some help here.

Ok, i did perhaps one THE most idiotic thing that a computer user can do, and now i am paying the price for it.

Ok, a little background info:
My system uses a SiS650 onboard graphics solution on a Windows XP computer, which obviously shares my main memory, and so i recently tried to fix this by installing a NVIDIA card.
I had problems with the NVIDIA card, and so decided to remove it and go back to the onboard graphics.
However, the onboard graphics card was listed in the hardware manager, but was said to have a fault and could not run. Another graphics option, Video Graphics Adapter, was listed beside it, and according to its properties was conflicting with the SiS.

So... i did the really smart and clever thing to do and disabled the Video Graphics Adapter, thinking that it would therefore allow the SiS to run without a conflict, and so restarted.

However, and i imagine many of you are now rolling about with laughter, i am now stuck in the position whereby the OS wont be displayed at all, due to the fact i have most likely disabled ALL VGA cards...

I have tried booting in Safe Mode, but it doesnt work, it hangs, and i have tried booting in VGA mode, but again, it doesnt work.

Is there anyway to perhaps re-enable the VGA from the command line interface or something?
Please dont tell me i am completely and utterly stuffed....

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

re-install the card, boot, if it doesn't work, remove it, and boot. Should get ya done...

So here is the scoop. My computer (HP Pavilion 500-056) had been broken for a year now, and I finally fixed it and reinstalled windows 10. Everything was working beautifully and I was very happy until I realized that I had no sound coming out of my speakers. Through my process of tinkering around, checking cables and output input plugs and such, there seemed to be no problem. I went into the sound mixer and there I accidentally disabled my speakers, so they do not pop up on the list anymore! I have no idea how to enable them now, and I still have no idea how to fix my sound. If someone could help pronto I would be extremely happy! Thanks!

Hi, If they were just disabled, you can re-enable them as follows. Right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select 'Playback devices'. In the subsequent window, right click an empty area and enter a check mark against 'Show Disabled Devices'. If your speakers are now listed, right click them and select Enable. Regards, DP-K

I'm running XP pro, and have done everything with recovery console like enabling vgasave, recopying drivers.....still nothing
I've even used different video cards and still get same result.
I dont have XP installation cd and the recovery console i have been using is for XP Home, not Professional, wondering if works the same.
Is there anyway to fix this without XP installation CD? Is there a way of forcing video drivers to work even though display cant get past xp logo ? (everything else seems to work fine)

You are likely to have one of those laptops that automatically switch from the onboard graphics to the other graphics adapter as the need arises, and in such cases, boot and start using the onboard graphics.

If you can't get into the BIOS to see if there is any way to reset the onboard graphics, you may be stuck with having to do a complete reinstall to get the display working again.

Depending on which version of Windows you're using, the following should help.

Win98:
boot to "Safe Mode Command Prompt Only" by tapping the [F8] key while the POST Screen is displayed.
At the c prompt type: "scanreg /restore" without quotes and press enter. Select a date that is BEFORE you disabled the mouse.

restore the system back to before you disabled the mouse!

This laptop doesn't have a CD drive; otherwise, I would repair Windows files with the Windows disk I have.

I've tried every way I found when researching the problem, but I am denied access at every turn.

Can somebody please help??

Thank you!!

Hey guys, I have searched a lot of forums but haven't found any relevent answers. I am sorry if this is a repeat.

What happened is that I disabled my nvidia graphic card from the control panel and it was too late until I realised my mistake as I had already pressed the restart button. Now I try to start my pc but all that happens is that I hear the sounds I always hear but nothing appears in the screens. I have tried several monitors. I have unhooked the monitor from the nvidia and connected it to the onboard gpu and still no luck. I tried resetting the bios but that didn't help either.

CPU:
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 3.00 ghz

GPU:
ZOTAC Nvidia GeForce GT610 Synergy Edition.

A:I disabled my Nvidia Geforce GT610 graphics card accidentally and now I can't see a thing

You'll not make that mistake again and neither will I. You can't see anything when Windows boots but you know it's there. Maybe there's a way round this but I never found it and ended up reinstalling Windows.

I keep getting this error message: display driver stopped responding and has recoveredDisplay driver Intel Graphics Accelerator Drivers for windows 7 Stopped responding and has successfully recovered.intel turbo boost.  It still does it sometimes but not often.  I tried running the diagnostic for the video stress both the 10 min and the 40 but going from step 3 where the pop-up box says no updates and I close that to continue to step 4 gathering test. I get the error msg. problem detected try again.

I'm using a Windows XP with Google Chrome as my browser
The problem started when I was trying to get to Youtube. I clicked the link and a fatal error occurred. Something about a redirect loop. One of the possible solutions google gave me was to clear all cookies and so I did. But then when I did that and went to my desktop, my wallpaper was gone and it said "Active Desktop Recovery" "Active desktop has been turned off" etc. I ran ATF Cleaner and Super-Anti-Spyware free edition in safe mode and thought the problem was solved. Anti-Spyware found something called "Hijacker.Tubby" and "Hijacker.Deskbar" It quarantined them and I thought it was done. But my Active desktop was still disabled and the driver for my wacom tablet isn't running.
I need this solved as quick as possible because this problem is setting me back on several assignments for my art class. I can't just start over on a piece of paper; too much time was put into the work that's already been done.

Here are my logs:

I imagine that I've hit a hotkey.

A:How did I accidentally change my display resolution?

Dont think it was a hot key. In fact how to Geek, tell how to create a hot key. I think it was a malfunction Improper shutdown, an install or a power surge are the most likely causes

Heyy everyone,

This is my first post on this forum, and it has taken me a while to post this thread since I have been trying to research and figure out my own problem myself by searching many, MANY, other related forums but so far have had not much luck. Also, obviously I couldn't find an individual who had the exact same specs as my computer who had the same issues, so I am going try and get help through this thread specifically for my computer. First I will explain everything that is going or happened and then all the specs are at the end of the thread.

Recently I downloaded a trial of World of Warcraft just to start playing it again for a little bit. I played it for about two days and then after playing it for about an hour or two straight, all of a sudden, the video card craps out, screen flashes, goes black, and then comes back within seconds. Then a message error pops stating 'Display driver igfx stopped responding and has successfully recovered.'.

Within those two days I was playing though, I was doing a lot of updates on my computer since I reformatted my laptop recently. So I thought maybe it had to do with the updates and decided to do a system restore. Of course with my luck, the system restore failed, and failed a couple more times after trying again but at different restoration points/dates. So then I decided so continue with my updates since I still had to install services pack 1, more updates, service pack 2, and more updates.

The PC was working fine (and has for a long time) when I accidentally hit the Sleep button the keyboard whilst playing Just Cause 2, which put the PC to sleep.

I then re-pressed the button but the PC didn't wake.

So I pushed the tower's power button to turn it back on and the PC made all the right sounds internally but nothing is displayed on the screen, not even the BIOS.

The monitor is showing "Analog/Digital" like it would if the PC was off.

I have tried to turn the system off at the wall also, still have the same issue.

Did something break when the PC went to sleep? :|

PSU is an Antec EarthWatts 500W, if that matters.

A:Accidentally hit Sleep button, now PC won't even display the BIOS

First thing I would try is clearing the CMOS.

1. Please clear CMOS and test again ( refer to motherboard manual for details .)
Use CMOS Jumper :
a.) Turn OFF the computer and unplug the power cord
b.) Move the jumper cap from pins 1-2 ( default .) to pins 2-3. Keep the cap on pins 2-3 for about 5-10 seconds, then move the cap back to pins 1-2.

c.) Plug in the power cord and turn ON the computer.
d.) Hold down the "Del" key during the boot process and enter BIOS setup to re-enter data.
