Q: System corruption. SFC /scannow cannot fix. Even SFCFix.exe do not fix

Hi Folks!
I have a new instalation (clean) of win 10 in my machine. SFC acuses some erros, but it says that can't fix them. So, I'm trying a tool called SFCFix.exe. It can't fix the problem as well. I've read a lot about this errors in Windows 10, so I'm sending the links to screen to show what's happen when I run scf /scannow and SFCFix.exe. I'm sending links to SFCFixCrashDumps as well. Hope anyone can help-me to get my win10 running without errors again.

Preferred Solution: System corruption. SFC /scannow cannot fix. Even SFCFix.exe do not fix

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Win 8.1 Home x64
I got an access denied on a software install for one package. Working with the vendor we narrowed to system corruption.. The user account is "Administrator", yet I get "need permission" on downloads, etc. I created another account on
the system and got the same issue. I successfully installed the software on another win 8.1 system.
I ran registry clean, malware scan etc. with no problem.

At SFC /ScanNow it came back with corruption; some fixed, some could not. It points to its log file. Unfortunately, I cannot locate the source of the issue. The OneDrive  link below is the log file:
https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=418500A441DD106A!23228&authkey=!AKdDHhNbRkMyClY&ithint=file%2ctxt

My options are to do a factory restore or move to Windows 10. Suggestions if I cannot fix the corruption?

I've found that the sfc scannow won't complete; it stops around 41%. I have rebooted in safe mode and attempted the same with exact same result at 41 percent. I found a similar member with this same issue, and it was recommended that they download and run SFCFix. I have done that, and I received the following:

An error occurred while processing the command. Ensure that the command-line arguments are valid. For more information, review the log file.

Below first is my system info, and below that is the dism.log. I'd appreciate any assistance with this matter because I use this computer for graduate school, and I don't have the ability to use the windows start button. Typically, I wouldn't have updated my Windows 7 to 10, but I was happy to see the return of the start button; however, I'm seriously regretting my decision. Hello KooKooMan, and welcome to Eight Forums.

I get an access denied for your CBS file download.

If you like, try going through the items listed in the blue note box at the bottom of OPTION TWO in the tutorial below to see if it may help.

OPTION THREE in the same tutorial will give you a sfcdetails.txt file that will only show the SFC results.

Windows update has stopped installing updates, of course - then ran sfc /scannow and found corruption.

I used DISM command to repair:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

DISM reported that corruption has been fixed.

Then ran sfc /scannow multiple times and still have corruption.

Windows 8.1 on a Surface Pro. It boots properly and runs normally, I just can't do certain windows updates (the critical ones, of course).

Any thoughts?

Thank you -

I had exactly the same problem, sorted it by uninstalling these 2 updates and hiding them:

This is rather annoying, I have been updating a few computers to Windows 10 the last week, with only one computer seeming to have this issue.  The system seems fine, just seems to take a bit longer to load up the keyboard driver at login.  To cover basics I ran sfc /scannow in Admin cmd, only to have the following after Verification completion displayed as results: "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.  Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log."  by the looks of it, the 'corrupt' files seem to be just 44x44 png files for MicrosoftEdge.  Running DISM also fails with error 6800.  Attaching both log files to this post - any help is appreciative.

I will try to put all the relevant information here, but this is the first time I have ever posted at a computer help forum. Please let me know if you need more information.

1. Within the last week, my laptop (Toshiba Satellite L505D) has started not turning on. I turn it off every night, and starting this week, suddenly I got nothing but a black screen when I turned it on in the morning. I hit the power button and turned it on and off several times (hitting "Start Windows Normally"), to no effect. I then tried the "System Repair" option (I don't remember if that is the correct wording, but it is the option that isn't "Start Windows Normally"). It takes me to the "System Restore" dialogue boxes, and after a lot of sitting around and several re-starts, the computer eventually brings me to the desktop. This has happened every day this week--the System Restore option works one time only. Once the desktop has loaded, there are no real problems, except . . .

2. Today I decided to fix this powering on problem, because it's annoying and sometimes I need to get into my computer quickly, so I did an online search. One of the recommendations was to use sfc/scannow to repair corrupted system files. I tried it three times (using "Run as Administrator"), and each time the verification stopped at 51% with the error message, "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation."

I have used C... Read more

Just a few days ago, the Egg helped me rid my system of some really nasty spyware. There was still a couple of files floating around from weatherbug and precision time, so I tried to get rid of them. No go. Tried add/remove...nope. Tried program files...not happening..says something about cannot find log.dll files. tried to locate these files and the computer just laughed at me. Thought about going into the registry, but seeing as I just learned about the control panel....I think not! Tried System Restore, it runs through the whole thing and then says"system was unable to restore....." BLEEP Just peachy! Okay..this pile of....{bad word} is still covered by warranty. I got onto online chat with Shawn at e-machines, told him of the prob and what I had done to correct it, he says my system is corrupt, and to reboot with the disc that came with the system. Is there any other way around this??? Thanks...by the way I have an e-machines something or another , AMD Athlonconfused: ) and windows XP.

Tried to "reset" my laptop using the internal system win 10 image. Failed and was stuck in the boot process. Tried to access the lenovo download media, but the tool reports that I already accessed it prior (I did) earlier this year, but don't have the download now. I brought to a local shop while traveling intl and they "fixed it" by loading on their copy of win10 (temp solution until i get home/sort it out). Some questions; I never received the actual media, but did download it once. How do we get another download or the license key provisioned with our original copy? Any way to repair the internal win10 system image or reload it? I would assume with a corrupt internal image and the machine still under warranty, there should be an issue re-downloading it?

I am using some imaging software (Acronis True Image) which from time to time finds itself unable to read the opening sectors of both of my external USB drives, declaring them to be unpartitioned (not true) and containing no recognizable file system (not true--NTFS). Both drives check out fine with CHKDSK and Disk Management confirms they are healthy. I can recover from this problem by using the system file checker and rebooting, following which True Image can again read the disks correctly, but not for long, because the problem is back again within a day or so. Acronis Support is pretty clueless on this.
The reason I'm bringing this up in this forum is that I assume what sfc /scannow is doing is replacing some system file which is corrupt. Is there any way I can find out which file it is and why it keeps getting corrupted? There must be a conflict somewhere but I have no idea what it is, so any general ideas would be a help.

A:System file corruption

SFC operations are logged here: %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log

Are you quite sure it's not just the reboot that's temporarily "fixing" Acronis? In other words, if you reboot without running SFC first, does that help?

Good evening all,

I'll try to keep this brief.
Scenario:

2 AMD FX series cpus. Both installed with usb boot media (windows 8.1 Pro).

Both have 1tb Western digital drives. One is a brand new drive 1mo or less in age the other at least a few years old.

I did not image one system to the other, installed from a fresh usb drive recently purchased.

I have corruptions when running sfc /scan now.

On the older computer i had to totally re-install and today the boot looping issues occured again. Computer powers up boot cycles until it says startup has failed and i must recover the system.

This is not a major deal as i did a restore, but its getting old FAST. the other system is also running sluggish. small tasks like managing the file folder system or opening web browsing sessions seem to cause freezing.

Older cpu fx-8120 8gb ddr3 1600 new system specs fx-8320 8gb ddr3 1866.

These by no means are slow crap machines. Both seem to run like crap, boot speeds i'd assume should be much faster. i load a decent amount of software but a 5min boot time is a bit ridiculous for such a machine.

Please let me know if i can provide any further information.

Hi,

I am having more and more issues with Windows 8.1. This now reaches the point my computer is almost unusable because the behavior is just too erratic. There are many different issues so I am quite overwhelmed and just don't know what to do.

ALL Metro applications stop right after I start them. I cannot use any of them, even the Windows Store. None of the indications I found on forums work. I tried fixing the permissions, ran DSIM commands to fix the component store, tried sfc /scannow, without any improvement. The only thing that works would be to thrash my user account and create a new one. Even temporarily removing files in AppData/Local/Microsoft didn't help. The audio subsystem regularly fails. For no obvious reason, sound stops working and doesn't resume even after a reboot. I have to uninstall and reinstall my audio driver. I am using a USB audio interface, the Fast Track Pro from M-Audio. I downloaded the most recent driver I could find, which is supposed to be compatible with Windows 8 (maybe not 8.1...). I just cannot continue uninstalling/reinstalling the audio driver like this. I know that interface is discontinued, but the hardware still works and the only alternatives available now are Focusrite interfaces that would fail to work under Linux. I don't want to replace my audio interface just because of Windows, and having to get a Linux-incompatible replacement is even more frustrating and unacceptable!Keyboard regularly switches to English while I NEED the Ca... I was left with several performance problems. overheating, cpu is eaten up by many instances of svchost in excess of 100k, searchindexer.exe was running at constant 100k until I disabled it, and Internet Explorer 8 is taking up alot of memory while running with only a few pages open. I believe my system is disorganized or there is resulting corruption, maybe someone here can look at the logs and give input please. I scanned system files with "sfc.exe" and corrupt system files were apparently found but not fixed.. I could not understand the "cbs.log".

Greetings dixonshane32 and Welcome to the Forums,When you recently removed zero access using combofix, were you guided by an expert here or elsewhere in some help forum or did you do this on your own? May we see the last combofix log and the log from your TDSSKiller scan please?Next, please click Start-->All Programs-->Accessories-->Command Prompt.Right click on "Command Prompt". On the pop-up menu, select ?Run as Administrator?...when the command prompt opens, please copy/paste the following Bold text to the command line prompt:findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log...the command will output to the screen so you'll need to copy that in order to paste it here. If there were any errors when you ran the system file check, this will display them to the screen. It not only will show that the output actually exists but will also show any potential errors when it was run. When you reply next, please remember to post the combofix log, TDSSKiller log, and hte .CBS log. Well, short version of what is wrong: Whenever I try to load safe made, it'll run down the .sys's and stop on mup.sys, then go no further. I'm using WinXP.

Long story: I been plagued by a few tough to kill trojans and the like when, all of a sudden, during the repairing instructions suggested by another board in this forum, the computer started to develope massive processing lag (ontop of the usual glitches that is probably hardware related). Eventually, about the third safe mode in the instructions, the mup.sys pause occured. I have the WinXP CD and would rather avoid a reformat, but will if it's possible to save personal files (by making backups).

Computer is a handful of years old and was windows 98 until upgraded to XP.

Any help appreciated,
GriggsD

A:System File Corruption?

I would suggest getting on a computer that has a printer and do a Google Search for MUP>SYS. There are a lot of finds take a look and see if you can find a solution you will be able to follow. From what I gather it is just copying a new uncorrupt file over the old one, but getting to do it is the task and I honestly do not know if I could explain it easily to you.

The reason for the printer is to print out the solutions that you think will help.

Have a good day.

Hello all,

I had aquired a nasty virus called virtumonde or something.
I had a bunch of spyware and virus cleaners take care of it and now it is off of my system.

I am now aware that some of my registry files were removed and i think that this virus has corrupted the files of my system restore.

I would like to restore the computer to an earlier state just to be safe nothing is left that i am missing.

Now when i try to run the system restore i can get up to the point where the computer restarts and all, and the window then pops up saying that the Restore has failed.

I am aware the restore is on, and there is plenty of space for it to function.

So the only way i see this not working is becase some of the files are corrupt or were deleted.

At the moment i know of one solution. i think i can turn the restore off, then reboot, then put the restore back on, however by doing this would deleted all saved reset points. If i dont have the reset points prior to when my PC got the virus i dont see the point.

I was wondering if i could delete the file that had to do with the restore completely then put in my Xp windows cd and get the uncorrupted files of the "good" restore to be replaced and put on my computer?

If any one has any advice or thinks that there is another way besides deleting all my prior restore points please let me know.
I thank you.

I cannot boot normally still and dont no what to do. Any ideas? please reply

Evandil (moderator):
Ran what check? Can you boot from the DVD? If so, get a command prompt and try chkdsk /f or /r on the drive.

Jamasto:
when i turn computer on it comes up with 2 options. start windows recovery or start windows normally which takes me 2 a blank screen. when i enter windows recovery... it says choose operating system or load drivers but cant find anything... when i click next with nothing selected on that menu i ran the windows recover option and it said volume corruption so i clicked fix automatically. but that then came up with an error sayin that its unable 2 automaticly fix itself. I did chkdsk command but and it just says "the type of file system is NTFS cannot lock current file"
if i choose system restore to resume windows to earlier point in time... it comes up with error saying "to perform an offline system restore you must choose installation u wud like to restore.

This has been occurring almost everyday now for the past week. I have no clue what to attach or send in this post, but I am more than willing to cooperate to the fullest extent to alleviate this issue.

I've rand Memory Diagnostics in Windows 10 and it turned out no results so my memory I guess is A-okay. Ran Malwarebytes so no viruses.

I'm running a little low on RAM here until we get another shipment, so I gave added some extra in that was just lying around, all i know abouit is the sticker that says ddr266 128mb, which matches the known good stick.

The question though: Could incompatible ram cause file system corruption? The machine runs fine for hours. I install XP Pro SP3 and run all the updates, and sometimes even have time for some configuration changes, but three times now, with three different Hard Drives, it eventually doesn't boot from missing various files, or runs chkdsk and destroys all my changes leaving it looking like a new log on (Bliss Desktop asking for a XP tour!) or something similar.

Just wondering if it's worth another clean install without the "mystery" RAM or if it's likely to be something else. (cuz then I can leave it to the hardware guys )

Ram can cause many different problems ...I would wait for the shipment

Hi all.

I was reading another post in the hardware section of this site, and that led me to be interested in the contents of the System log of my computer's Event Viewer. Anyway, I was about halfway through the log, when a message popped up saying the system log was corrupted, and blanked the log of all it's contents.

It's not a big problem, but what would cause that to happen?

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

Since I have a gigabyte of RAM, I'd like Win XP to keep the kernel in memory, so I select

My Computer -> Properties -> Advanced ->
Performance Settings -> Advanced -> Memory usage, Adjust for best performance of System Cache

On the next boot at the login screen, I get an infinite list of Delayed Write Failure messages, beginning with C:\$Mft (?), requiring a full reinstall.

I'm using a Seagate 120 gig Barracuda 7200.7 SATA drive with the Intel 875P chipset non-RAID SATA support, and XP Professional SP1a.

I've run Seagate's full diagnostic suite and found no errors there, but Microsoft support thinks it's a hardware issue. That seems to leave the Intel controller.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks,
Everett

Hello,

I have some issues with my Windows 10 Pro OS. So far, there are few problems I am facing and they are as follows: (For now)
1: When I put my PC into sleep mode/hibernation, every time, the PC auto wakes up at 2:00 am and at 1:00 pm (UK time)
1.1: This is another issue with putting PC in sleep mode/hibernation. whenever I put PC into sleep mode and then I try to login back it works good but after every 4 consecutive sleep modes/hibernations and sometimes only with one sleep mode/hibernation, the PC won't show up the login screen. The monitor screens just goes black and moving keyboard/mouse or doing anything won't help and I am forced to press the restart button or must completely shutdown and boot again in order to be able to use the PC again.

So in summary, the PC is limited only to sometimes 1 time and most of the times 4 consecutive times sleep modes/hibernations and must be restarted or shutdown.
2: Recently I tried to run SFC /Scannow but the scan stops at 62% and gives the following error message:

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 62% complete.
Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation.

I also ran SFCFix and attached both SFC and SFCFix Logs.
3: Since Windows 10 Anniversary Update, I tried many times to update my Windows via ISO (download the correct ISO) about a month ago, I wasn't been able to update the Windows.
The update runs fine up un... Read more

hello I have run a sfc scan and it showed I had corrupted files upon research I cam accross the sfcfix.exe which had also failed. Please help if you can Thanks

A:corrupted SFC scan and failed sfcfix.exe

Hello Macari and welcome to Seven Forums.

It's been reported that several Windows Updates starting in May 2015 have caused people to experience corrupted system files after running sfc /scannow.

I'd try uninstalling all updates from May and June. Then try running the sfc again. If it works (no integrity violations found) then you'll know one or more of the Updates was responsible for the corrupted files. You could try reinstalling just a few at a time and run sfc after each group. If sfc runs successfully install the next group. If the sfc shows corrupted system files after running the scan you'll know which Update(s) were at fault. Uninstall those few updates, and install just one at a time. Run the sfc after each install until you know for sure which Update(s) is causing the issue.

Hey All,

I have Windows XP (SP-3) with all updates installed. I am familiar with Disk Defrag and the Check Disk Utility chkdsk. But what does SFC actually do? Can I run it in Safe Mode? (I always do for Defrag and Check Disk.)

What do I type at the Command Prompt to run it? (If it asks for my Windows Installation Disk.) My hard drive is C. I have a CR-R drive that is D, and a CD/DVD RW drive which is drive E The file path confuses me. Is it:

C:/

D:/

or

E:/?

If SFC finds missing files, I understand it will repair them. If it does, will I have to re-run or reinstall Windows Updates again or SP-3? or is SFC smart enough where that would not be necessary? Running this utility is not going to make things worse, is it?

Jack

A:What is the System File Checker (sfc/scannow) Utility

SFC doesn't replace missing files. It has no way to know what is not there. It only compares a hash of Windows-only files to the originals and replaces them if it is different.

sfc /scannow will start it and you'll need the XP CD of your version of Windows (same service pack level) to be in the CD-ROM.

Dear all,

I'm an avid gamer (as you will see in the attached file). Today my computer crashed with the error CRITICAL SYSTEM CORRUPTION for the, I think, third time now in several months. The other two times were a while ago when running RASnes (SNES emulator) and trying to start foobar (a music player, I assumed then that RASnes does not like the UAC that foobar calls because it needs admin rights and caused the crash), today the both programs ran together for about an hour before the crash. I'm starting to think they somehow caused the crash by somehow hating each other.
Other programs running were Skype, Steam, Firefox, Radeon Settings, possibly Thunderbird and possibly Sandboxie (without any active sandboxes).

I don't have any third party CD/DVD drive emulators installed which are a common cause for the issue, such as Daemon Tools, Alcohol and whatnot. I installed two CD tools recently for testing purposes with Sandboxie but did not permanently save any changes so there should have been nothing installed into the system [if you still find any traces of them, let me know, as they are most likely the culprit then]. (I have my CDs in a proprietary format from a program called "VirtualCD" I got many years ago for free with a magazine, but that can't be read by Windows. I could not convert anything and will have to do at some point with my Windows XP partition. This only for info.)

Apologies for the huge list to go through, but I have a lot of games installed. :... Read more
