Extract image files (img, iso etc..) from rar files without extracting the rar files

Q: Extract image files (img, iso etc..) from rar files without extracting the rar files

Hey now heres a dilemma for you.

I have just bought a dvd burner and was looking forward to getting some dvds from the newsgroups. But to my dismay i couldnt extract the multiple rar files from the archieve because it was slightly bigger than 4gb ie i have FAT32 system. I investigated the NTFS option but couldnt do it because i have windows pre installed on a time machine and if i change the system i cant reload windows from the hidden parts of my hdd because the specialised disc will only work in FAT32 knowing to the need of it to support NTFS systems time didnt want to because it kepts the technical support about it down. There are programs about for the xbox to extract iso's from the rar files without extracting the rar files. Then to transfer to the hdd of the xbox in one step. I was wondering does anyone know of any program that will let me extract the contents of an image/iso from rar files. I know its possible because i know of two programs for xbox iso's Called Suxx 1.02 and Craxtion 4. I would appreciated anyyy help given here. Its also difficult to explain the extract iso from rar files in a search engine.... very difficult. Or something that will let me extract the contents of a rar without getting the 4gb limit error.

Preferred Solution: Extract image files (img, iso etc..) from rar files without extracting the rar files

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My ST3500418AS 500GB died and took my Windows 7 with it, so I had to do a fresh install to another hard disk.
Unfortunately, Backup and Restore cannot see the backup location from my previous install, so I can't get my files back that way.

I presume that the VHD file I see in the backup folder is the system image of the previous install.

Is there any way I can extract my files from this VHD using some software package, or even convert it to another format such as ISO and extract my files that way?

There's a lot of great pics and stuff there that I don't even remember where I got it from, so I'm pretty desperate to get it all back.

All help greatly appreciated.

After lots of research on the Internet, I couldn?t find a straight-forward method of extracting files from a Windows 7 image backup (this is the full backup, not the file and folder backup). I finally got it working without any additional programs! Here are my instructions. Hopefully they can come in handy for when you don?t have any files in Previous Versions, or you don?t have another backup of the file you lost but you have it in the image backup.
This procedure may not work with Vista as Windows 7 supports VHD disk mounting through Diskpart. I don?t think Vista does.

You must be logged in as an administrator (such as the first account made on the computer when you installed Windows 7)

Go to the Start menu > Computer, and go into the drive where you made the image backup

Right-click the WindowsImageBackup folder and go to Properties

Go to the Security tab > Advanced > Owner tab > Edit...

Select your username, and check Replace owner on subcontainers and objects

"OK" everything and close all windows

Go back to the drive where you made the image backup, right-click the WindowsImageBackup folder and go to Properties > Security tab > Advanced

In the Permissions tab click Change Permissions...

Select your username, click Edit...

Tick all the Allow boxes then OK

Tick both bottom boxes then OK

"OK" everything, close all windows

After searching for a few hours, I decided to post a new thread.

I am trying to extract some specific files from a system image rather than doing a full restore. The WindowsImageBackup is on an external 500gb hard drive.

I have followed all directions on how to do this:

Computer management -> Disk management -> attach VHD

The VHD attaches fine, and it is the correct file. But when it attaches I get the message: "you need to format the disk in drive F: before you can use it. Do you want to format it?"

I clicked cancel, and then tried to right click -> explore. I then got the message: "F:\ is not accessible. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable."

Out of all the tutorials I have read, the file should open just fine and let me explore it. Why is it asking me to format the disk? And is it safe to do so?

I attached a screenshot from Computer Management when the VHD is attached.

I don't want to lose everything on the system image! Can I/should I format the disk?

Thanks in advance for your help! Let me know if you need more information.

Or, when it is asking me if I want to format the disk, does that mean it will format the RAW file system as NTFS?

I know it's the UAC that's restricting me from doing so. Am using 7-zip, and the only way I've found for moving files to program files, is by extracting them on my desktop, then move it over to the folder inside program files. Edit: Am mostly using the right click menu. Right click-> 7-Zip -> Extract and so forth...

Hello, I'm having trouble extracting any .rar files at the moment. It seems any file I try to extract is always corrupt. I've tried numerous suggestions such as:

*Testing my memory: Result - no errors.

*Re-installing Win-Rar - Installed numerous versions, still no luck, also tried AlZip and that doesn't seem to help either.

*Disabled Anti-Virus/Firewall - Same result.

*Tried default firefox downloader aswell as Orbit my main download manager, still no luck.

I've never had this trouble until recently. Any other suggestions would be great.

I'm running windows 7, on a Dell Optiplex 755. It's been quite some time since my last reformat, but I'd like to avoid doing that if possible. Would be good to have the following plan given the go ahead or have the holes pointed out in it...
I want to refresh my Laptop, there's a few things that are a bit iffy on it, I feel like a refresh might help it. I've never actually refreshed my laptop before so it's a bit of uncertainty and a bit of learning.
My plan is to create a disk image using Drive Image XML (Or should I use the built in Windows Option?) to my external HD. Then after my computer has been refreshed to factory settings I'll mount the Disc Image to a different HD (that's got more space than the Image will be) and I'll then be able to pull the files off the Image. These would be documents / program files etc...
I don't know how this affects things such as the Path in
System and security > System > Advanced system settings > System Properties > Environment variables.
I've added to that recently for Eclipse and Java, so I'd like that to remain...?
I'm guessing the process will be :
1 Create disc image
2 Mount & test Disc image
3 Reset laptop to factory settings.
4 update Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 (was 8 originally...)
5 copy x86 and x64 program folders over from the disc image.....
Is this cool? Am I missing stuff / anything extra I should be aware of?

I used the "right click" "send to" feature in XP to send some wedding photos to the cd burner.

After I burned the cd, I revisited the folder in which the image jpegs were located. For those images I had sent to the cd a week earlier, the file name displayed but the image file was gone!!! And it listed the file size as 1k.

I am perplexed! I thought that the "send to" would actually send a copy of the images, not the image file itself! Am I wrong??? Does XP actually treat "send to" as "cut" and "paste"???

Any help or thoughts greatly appreciated.

A:Send image files to CD, then files disappear!

Hi there,
If you send the images to the burner using 'send to' this should not completely delete the original. It may sound daft but do a search on the system for the files as its possible you may have clicked to send the files somewhere else. What's your'e antivirus also?

These files do NOT exist if I browse to my desktop.  They are not it the Recycle Bin either.  I have unchecked all the HIDE options for File Explorer.

Hi People, Newbie here.
As the title suggests I am having a problem unzipping downloaded files on my HP Envy laptop. which has windows 10 version 1511 (build 10586.36) it appears to start the process but just hangs at 99% and will remain there for the rest of the day.
However I also have a HP Pavilion laptop with windows 10 version 10 (build 10240) which has no problems unzipping downloaded files, in fact in most cases takes only a few seconds.
I can copy the unzipped files to a flash drive or external HD and copy to the HP Envy where so far all have worked.
So, I have two questions,
1) Is there a way of getting the Envy laptop to unzip downloaded files successfully as with the Pavilion?
If not
2) Can I uninstall Windows 10 and select an different version of 10 to upgrade to on the Envy which will allow me unzip files?
Please note that I am an old guy and not computer literate as such, so a detailed response to this issue would be very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I just switched to Windows XP Pro x64 and I am loving it and loving the challenges of straightening out the few bugs that are associated with it. One of those is the Spell Checker in Outlook Express. It doesn't work in x64 because the application itself is x64 and it gets it's spell checker from Microsoft Office, which is x32.

So I did some Googling and found a guy with a fix. He said to take an regular x32 XP Pro Cd, which I have, and extract the OE files to your x64 OS. That way, you'll then have a x32 OE. Trouble is, I don't know how to do that, what folders to look under etc. About all I know is that when you put in the CD and it shows up in MyComputer, you hit explore, it shows all of the files and folders that are on the CD. That's all I know. But how do I go about figuring out which files and/or folders are for Outlook Express.

This can't be that hard. Somebody should know how to do this! Please help!

Hi, I'm having a problem with all the archived files on my laptop,(anything in a .zip, .rar, .7zip file etc). Problem has just started today so not sure if I've got a virus of some sort.
Basically any existing or newly downloaded file that I have on my laptop does not appear to be extracting. If I use an extract all method, then one of the folders will extract (if there are folders in the file) but when I look in the folder it's empty. If it is just a file ie;.js,.css or .jpg or something then it wont transfer. I can pick up the file and drag and drop it in to the desired destination but once I let go nothing happens. The destination folder is still empty.
Does anybody have any idea why this would be happening?

I got me a new 1TB HD and Windows 7 Pro 64 bit (not USB install, actual new DVD. I was trying to install it. The initial parts were painfully slow but they worked.

I got to the part where it Copies Files. Then it goes to Extracting Files and it stayed at 0% for about an hour (before I gave up). I could still move the mouse and I clicked on cancel (and then it did very little again).

I'm not sure what the problem is.

My system is:
3Gz Dual Core Intel CPU (E8400)
2 x 2GB stick of DDR2 RAM (both Kingston, one is older, one is brand new)
ASUS EAH4870 Video Card
- Having trouble remembering what my motherboard is and I can't find it under my current Device Manager (Win XP). I know that I couldn't get Win XP onto my system before. The MB is an ASUS but would the actual MB details help?
1TB WD 7200 HD (brand new)

My particular concern is that my DVD drive is IDE (whereas HD is SATA). Would that have anything to do with it? I would imagine it would slow down the installation but not halt it.

Anyway, please help. =)

A:Hanging at Extracting Files

Make sure you have latest BIOS version updated from old OS.

Set BIOS to defaults to clear the CMOS.

Set SATA controller in BIOS to AHCI first, then IDE.

Try partitioning your HD using Custom install Drive Options to Create New partitions to split the drive at least in half, then format each before installing to first partition.

If this doesn't help then remove all but 2gb of RAM to try install, next swap ram, then test RAM using memtest86 for 5-6 passes.

Hello. I'm using Windows XP professional, and I have a slight problem that I'm hoping you guys can help me fix.

I can't use the default zip extracting utility anymore... When I right-click on a zipped folder, and click "Extract All..." nothing happens. The extraction wizard doesn't show up anymore, either. I'm not even receiving an error message. The strange thing is that I can still send things to compressed folders.

I can still extract things using winRAR, but I don't like that the default extraction thing isn't working.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
