Cant enter BIOS!?

Q: Cant enter BIOS!?

Hey guys i have a huge problem and have been on every other tech website praying for answer but none have came. I have recently built a PC with a friend and once we finished building it we plugged it in to the monitor pressed delete and everything worked fine at with his keyboard and monitor. I brought it over to my house and plugged it into my old HP w1907 monitor and it take 2 minutes after i turn on my computer to finally show on the monitor! After that i try entering the BIOS with a Logitech mk 345 wireless combo and its almost as if it not even plugged in, i have tried everything from buying the brand new Logitech keyboard to plugging it into USB 2.0 instead of 3.0. The keyboard i tried before the Logitech one was a PS2 HP keyboard. Its came to the point where i am almost giving up on the whole build. Hope you guys could help!
My specs are:
MSI Geforce GTX 960
AMD FX 8350
MSI 760GM-P34
Kingston 8GB of RAM
1 TB Hitachi Hard Drive
Rosewill FBM-01 case
If i forgot anything just let me know thank you guys!

Preferred Solution: Cant enter BIOS!?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Cant enter BIOS!?

Well it could be that you may need to use a PS2 keyboard to initially access the BIOS setup, then consult the mobo manual as to where to enable the USB functionality you may need, such as legacy. As far as accessing the BIOS with a wireless combo, that might not work at all depending on the type of USB receiving unit. That would explain why it takes so long for the video to fire up your monitor, the PC is probably looking for a keyboard and mouse and not finding them, eventually it gives up and completes the POST anyway. Just a theory.

Hello all, I've been messing with and Googling this problem all day and am stumped. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

My laptop:
Toshiba A105-S4134
XP SP2
MCE 2005
Intel T2400 Duo Core
2 GB RAM

1. Two days ago I had a glitch - a bunch of browser windows were open and the system just sort of froze up. I ended up doing a hard restart. The PC then took a longer than normal time to boot back up.

2. That made me nervous, so yesterday I made True Image images of both partitions on the HD, that is C: (OS and apps) and D: (data).

3. This morning I decided to run a memory diagnostic disk (I had memtest86+ and Windows Diagnostics CDs on hand). I set boot priority to CD/DVD ROM using Start > All Programs > Toshiba > Utilities > Toshiba Assist > Optimize > Toshiba Hardware Settings > Boot Priority

4. When I restarted the PC, I heard the CD Rom drive spin for a few seconds, but the screen stayed lack and didn't boot. After some time passed with no activity, I hit control/alt/delete a couple of times and XP then booted form the HD.

5. I unsuccessfully tried multiple times with three bootable CDs (that worked on another Toshiba laptop), including the Recovery and Apps disk that came with the laptop. Same result. I re-checked boot order a few times and the setting priority was still as I had set it.

6. I then found that I was unable to get into either safe mode or BIOS, or to get the PC to boot from the CD ROM during startup using any of F12, F8, F2... Read more

Hey all,
my cousin dropped of her laptop (Acer aspire V5-571 series) with a problem.
when she booted up the PC it gave a message "Operating system not found", after a quick google search i found that if i boot from a USB installer and repair the PC, or go into bios and change the HDD location etc. I could fix it.
This is not the main problem, the main problem is i CANT get into the BIOS after everything i have tried and the only way i can fix this PC is if i enter the BIOS, anyone know either how to fix the OS not found without BIOS, OR, how to get into BIOS without windows.
(Yes i have tried pressing F2,Delete,F12 etc.)

I had a strange set of circumstances today. I was trying to update my memory from 2 to 4g. My system would not boot with the new memory and the bios gave 3 beeps. After removing the new memory, the system would boot to XP but I had no video. I powered down and powered back up. I now had video but the system would hang. In Safe Mode, it would hang after the following entry system32/config/system. Note I never observed any windows error messages, just the hang.

I used the Recovery Console from an XP CD and did a chkdsk /r and chdsk /f
I also ran fixboot

None of these solved the problem.

I then ran fixmbr
Recovery Console displayed some kind of caution message that I had a "invalid" or something MBR and that it might prevent me from access partitions or something.

Well, I ran fixmbr anyway since i was out if ideas.

Now when I try to boot, it is freezing during the post process. When I hit F2 to enter the BIOS setup, it says "entering setup" but it never does. It seems to be hanging right after the drive detect process.
Note I have one standard IDE drive © and 2 SATA drives. Windows XP is installed on one of the SATA drives.

Any ideas? Let me know if you need any more info.

A:BIOS Hang, unable to enter BIOS Setup after running FIXMBR

This sounds more like a BIOS = hardware issue. Since you have been inside the case it is possible something got nudged loose. Re-seat your memory and video card if it is an add-on.

My laptop has no problem before. Recently I try to install Windows XP. First attempt fail, so I change SATA at BIOS from AHCI to Compatible, success. However the partition that I want to install*Windows XP to is not available.*

So just to test I choose my Windows 7 partition. Since it want to format the partition, I cancel the installation. After restarting windows, it stuck at bios. I restart again and change SAT to AHCI. Restart, still stuck at bios. This time I cannot enter BIOS, recovery or change boot media. Assuming the boot sector has corrupt, will reseating the cmos battery will fix this *problem. Please help. Thanks in advance.*

A:Windows 7 Stuck At BIOS Cannot Enter BIOS or Change Boot Media

Somehow with guidance from Lenovo Community, I solved the problem.

For future reference:
1. Take out HDD, battery, plug off ac power.
2. Restart, change SATA Controller in BIOS to compatible, restart.
3. Check whether the SATA Controller is Compatible or AHCI. If Compatible, force shutdown laptop.
4. Put back HDD, boot with Windows 7 Recovery CD or Installation Disc.
5. Choose Autostartup Repair.
6. Restart.

A:Lenovo H 50-55 Bios password suddenly appears when trying to enter bios. I don't know it.

my guess is that your cmos battery died and it wants you to set day/time.  There is no backdoor password.  The choices are remember the PW or replace the motherboard.

Hi Guys
I restored an image created with Macrium Reflect on my wife's computer (Custom build with Asus P8Z77-V LX mother board) and everything went fine until rebooting when i got to the "Please press DEL or F2 to enter UEFI BIOS settings" then everything stopped.
I have tried F2 DEL F8 F12 just about all the F combinations and nothing works, I have two SSD drives one with Win7 Pro and one with Win10 Pro (not connected at the same time) and neither of them will boot up.
I have tried changing the jumper pins from 1 and 2 to 2 and 3 for 10 sec to clear the RTC Ram in CMOS then returned then to 1 and 2 and tried rebooting...no change so i removed the battery and repeated the jumper pin swap then reinstalled the battery and still no change, cannot get passed press DEL or F2 to access the BIOS settings.
I even downloaded the latest BIOS and updater as shown and put them on a USB flash drive together and tried the Macrium Rescue disk, and still nothing happened and it will not open the BIOS maybe i got it all wrong ?
I was hoping someone here might know how to put it right, i am out of idea's and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Then I can insert it again. Otherwise the SSD is working nicely in Windows... This is the strangest thing that I have encountered for years! Anyone else have encountered this? Any workaround?

Hello, i have a really annoying problem: Everytime i start my laptop, it wont boot up. The capslock button is blinking twice so i guess the bios is damaged. First i checked if there is a update for my bios on you driver/software download page but there isnt. So afterward i tried to recover and reinstall my bios but i cant even enter the bios update menu.In the bios recovery manual http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02693833 it says:With the computer off, press and hold the Windows logo key and the B key at the same time.Still pressing those keys, press and hold down the Power button on the computer for 1 to 2 seconds, and then release the Power button but continue to hold the Windows and B keys until the BIOS update screen is displayed or until you hear a beeping sound (usually 8 beeps). But this isnt working. It only blinks twice continiously but wont boot. Can anyone help me? I cant find further information regarding this issue. I start to get really really annoyed by the problem because sometimes it takes up to 15-20 times to get the laptop running. Best Regards

Ive been gradually morphing the system in my sig for about a year and recently decided to tweak the oc up alittle more after getting a top notch heat sink.

1st boot after changing sink reported Windows file missing so just for the hell of it I entered BIOS and relaxed RAM settings on a hunch and it booted fine.

Everything runs fine, including a 6*C drop in load temps (thats another 6* of clocking then ;] )

EXCEPT: hitting del during startup no longer enters BIOS, it goes straight through to windows.

I have a USB keyboard which I suspect, however I was in the BIOS only 4 hours ago with this kb to change the RAM timings after the 1st unsuccessful boot.

All ive done since the refit is zipped a few big files to check load temps, surfed a bit and gamed for half an hour. At no point did temps rise above 45*C.

Odd...

Hello Everyone!

My first post on these forums, I am looking for help with a specific problem. I have a Lenovo G40-30 laptop which does not boot up the BIOS. Pressing the BIOS button on the laptop and selecting the BIOS gives me a black screen with a still cursor in the top left hand corner. The only part of the BIOS I am able to enter is the boot selection.

I have Windows 8 running on the laptop, but I occassionally get a BSOD which is why I have been wanting to enter the BIOS and format everything and get a fresh, clean install.

My question is how can I reset the BIOS? I am unable to reset the CMOS battery because it is soldered onto the motherboard, unless taking it apart and re-soldering will reset it?

I am looking for any ideas/solutions to my problem.

Many thanks!

A:G40-30 - Can't enter BIOS?!

Hi Akuto ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Depending on the model of your machine, initially best way to start is to perform power drain.

Turn off the pc and remove the battery and unplug the ac adapter charger .
Press down the power button down for 15 seconds.
If possible to remove the harddrive to prevent fast boot .

Place back the battery and charger.
Turn it back on using the Lenovo button and choose BIOS set up .
F9 should load defaults and F10 to save and exit.
Any BSOD  without the harddrive?

Turn it back off and place back the harddrive .
Start back with the same Novo button for the BIOS set up and check if the harddrive is detected  and restart .

It would be helpful to have the model and machine number so that we can check further but you may also refer to the user guide and hardware manual downloadable from the support site.
It would indicate the same process for a Factory reset  for your machine accessible thru the same Novo Button.

System Recovery will delete everything on the PC and reimage it back the way it was from out of the box .
One Key Recovery from Inittial backup is the hidden factory partition on the same harddrive.

Update us how it goes.

Regards

Hey, I have a problem with accessing EFI BIOS on my Z570. If I press F2 on the beggining/loading screen the key press is detected (it shows "Please wait..." message in the bottom of the loading screen) but I can not enter bios. It just goes booting Ubuntu. It ignores F2 completely. Same thing happens with F12.I also can not update BIOS because I only have Ubuntu installed and no way to boot anything else.So is there any other option for reseting/updating BIOS? I tried all standard procedures (took the battery out, hold the power off button for 30-40sec, etc...). OKR is also not an option, because I deleted the OEM partition. This whole thing happend because I could not install Win 7 properly, which is in my opinion connected to the UEFI/BIOS issues.Any advice or do I call Lenovo service?

are you trying to enter BIOS from a cold start or during a system restart?  Please ensure the system is off and as soon as you see the BIOS splash screen start tapping away on the F2 button.

If that doesn't work, please try the solution in this KnowledgeBase article, I know it concerns another system type but giving it a go can't hurt.

I've recently upgrade my graphics card on my Compaq and I think my 300 watt power supply may be struggling. I haven't upgraded it yet and I was trying to refrain from doing that, which is why I purchased the ATI hd6670 1gb Gddr5. My problem is: I can no longer enter into BIOS settings. Weird thing is, the computer boots normally and everything else is working just fine. All the peripherals work as expected, both graphic cards perform normally, keyboard, everything, name it...
I was able to enter BIOS when I receive the laptop (F2 at boot). One of the first things I did upon receiving the machine was to upgrade the BIOS to A20 per Dell instructions (using a bootable USB key into DOS). After that I could still enter BIOS (F2 during boot). Next I performed a fresh install of Win 7 SP1. I could still enter BIOS at that point, then one day out of the blue, I could not enter BIOS (There is no BIOS password BTW). I have no clue what caused this or at which point exactly this occurred.
So here is the sequences that causes the problem:
1- I power up on the laptop
2- W... Read more

I have a PC from Medion, the Microstar. Recently purchased a SSD Hard Drive from Samsung SSD 850 EVO 120GB. On my PC there is a compartment already fitted out with the necessary SATA connections. Installed the SSD and started my PC (OS is Windows 7 Home Edition already installed by the manufacturer). After startup OS reported that the SSD was recognised.
Searched for this in Windows Explorer/Computer but could not find the drive letter, the only ones indicated were HARD DISK DRIVES Boot (C) and Recover (D), Devices with Removable Storage DVD RW Drive (E), Removable Disk (F), Removable Disk (G), Removable Disk (H) and Removable Disk (I).
I then closed the PC and restarted going into BIOS with the F8 key. There I was shown a blue screen menu with the options of selecting a BOOT drive Disk. Among those shown were the SSD and a HDD the latter which I presumed is my Boot (C) drive. No other options were indicated, no Menu etc. I tried many keys, F1 through to F10 but all with the same result, nada. Exited the 'BIOS' ? and booted normally.
The non recognition of the SSD and the inability to enter further into the BIOS is puzzling to say the least. As I do not have a great deal of knowledge concerning computers I would be most gratefull of any help in this direction.

A:Cannot enter BIOS for SSD recognition

There is no reason to go into the Bios.

You have to format the ssd and give it a letter for it to show up. (Common knowledge)

If you go into disk management you will see it as unallocated.

Right click on it to format it as a primary partition.

Start Button>Right click computer>click manage>click disk management

maximize the window and you`ll see the ssd.

Example here but the bar across the top of it will be black

hi, I've changed my MOBO to Gigabyte.. for some reason, when i tried to enter into BIOS, it doesn't. I cud see "press DEL to enter setup" message... This screen is only up for two seconds before it flashes to the POST screen which then flashes into a screen that says "Loading Operating System". Then it loaded my OS.. Then i restarted my computer and tried to enter into BIOS again... This time I entered into BIOS.. Sometimes, it is not entering into BIOS (as I've pressed DEL so many times before the BIOS entry msg).. why it is happening sometimes ?? plz help...

A:Sometimes my Computer won't let me to enter into BIOS. Plz help.

I'm not sure. Could be a sticking key on your keyboard. Anyhow, when you hit the power button on your machine, repeatedly tap the Del key, and you should enter the BIOS. There is only a very small time window allowed for this, and it could be that you are leaving it too late.

I have been trying to put XP onto a hard drive that I previously only used as a second archive hard drive, but when I take out the current main hard drive and set the slave to master, then boot-up with my bootable XP CD it won't do anything and gives me an error.

First time it completely ignored the bootable CD, gave me a blank screen and stopped, saying that the System 32 hal.dll file was missing. After several more attempts I gave up and put the old main hard drive in, set the one I was trying to put XP on back to slave, then formatted the second hard drive from C:\.

I then took out the old main hard drive again, set the second one to slave and tried booting up again with my bootable XP CD. This time it completely ignored everything, gave me the black screen and this time a different error: 'NTLDR is missing' and told me to Cntrl+Alt+Del to restart. I tried this a couple of times and just got the same thing.

So, next thing I wanted to check was the BIOS to see if booting from CD was definitely enabled (it always has been and I have used it before on this PC). I pressed delete on start-up as I have always done to enter the BIOS and it WILL NOT enter the BIOS! Tried again several times and it just won't do it.

Has anyone got any ideas why first of all my PC thinks there are Windows files missing when all it has is a blank, formatted hard drive to deal with? Also could anyone suggest why I can't get into BIOS? Maybe these problems are related. I ha... Read more

Hello all,

Got a bit of a problem with a dell xps 400. The machine badly needs to be reloaded, so i have need to enter the setup utility to configure the raid controller so that XP setup will detect the HDD.

The problem is that the computer refuses to enter the Setup Utililty. I can select it from the boot menu, or I can press f2 at the dell POST screen, but in either case the computer will attempt to load BIOS setup, then act as if nothing happened and start to load windows. I have even tried removing all bootable media just in case, and when the standard "no system disk press F1 to retry or F2 to enter setup utility" message appears, i wil press F2 and the message will just repeat, over and over.

I have tried reflashing the BIOS to version A07 and the problem still exists. Without the ability to enter the BIOS setup utility and configure for windows setup the computer will eventually be useless.

HAS ANYONE ever experienced this before? I can only think its a hardware problem but other than refusing to enter the BIOS utility it works fine (windows only needs to be reinstalled because of the usual junk buildup but the pc is stable).

Any help is appreciated, this is driving me nuts.
