I have dell inspiron 15 3542. I want to change boot setting but cannot able to change setting before unlock bios. When start up windows it's required system password and i know the password but when i enter the password to unlock bios it show invalid password. How to unlock bios or clear bios password ? Thank you
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You'll need to call Dell by phone with verification of ownership of your system.

When i was bought my laptop, the bios is already locked by that shop. But now i want to unlock it, when I asked that shop for unlock the password they said that "they don't know the password" but i'm sure i didn't lock the bios. I want to unlock bios without disassemble my laptop. Please help me!!!!!
If they can't unlock it for you, return the system for a refund. The only other way around the problem will be to replace the mainboard - which will cost several hundred dollars.

I think my BIOS was factory locked, because a lot of options on it are greyed out. How can I unlock that to adjust some settings.
I have an Insyde BIOS 1.40
Ignore it for a laptop - they are factory limited, probably even if you build your own laptop.

I have noticed that i was missing a few options my the bios (which i think is normal). I read some where that you can unlock your bios. Is it possible if i can unlock mine? I want to do this becuse i am running legacy mode, not UEFI, and i am missing that option in my bios. Thanks in advance!

Hello @tahz, We are sorry as there is no master password or generator for EliteBooks or ProBooks. This is to inform you that all HP Business Notebooks such as Probooks or Elitebooks have more stringent security than consumer models infact they don't produce 'halt codes', the password cannot be derived from the Serial Number and the code is stored in non-volatile memory so removing the RTC cell will not reset the password in this case. Please Contact HP Business Notebook support they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password. There is no OEM BIOS password. If there is a password, a user set it and the only way to get it off is to remember the password

How can i get access to the cpu settings, through bios? Its an old pc and i want to try and overclock it.
You can't make any changes to the chipset or CPU clock through the locked HP BIOS. Newer model Intel CPUs can be overclocked by use of an Intel utility. It is, AFAIK not available for older generation CPUs. HP consumer notebooks do not have this ability, only way is to hack the bios file and reflash the cmos, this is very dangerous and can brick the PC, now it can only be used for a door stop.

i have being finding it dfficult to boot my system from HDD. each time i want to enter the BIOS set up, it will request me to type in BIOS password. After Disassembling all the parts of the system, i was able to get a password reset of '12345678' after getting access into the BIOS setup. the boot order was not showing i.e. Internal CD/DVD ROM, Notebook HDD ets was not showing on the BIOS BOOT Order option. I really need your help to solve that problem.
