Error in the installation of Synaptics WBF fingerprint drive...

Q: Error in the installation of Synaptics WBF fingerprint drive...

Hello, I am trying to upgrade the driver for the Synaptics Fingerprint driver using the installer: sp77398.exe. When I ran the installer, I received an error saying: "Synaptics Fingerprint Sensor Driver software is already installed. to continue installation of hte Synaptics WBF DDK, please delete any existing enrolled fingers using HP Protect Tools and then un-install the Synaptics Finger Sensor Driver Software". So I removed the enrolled fingerprints, un-installed the two Synaptics applications i found under "Programs and Features", and went to the device manager and deleted the Biometrics driver, however, i am still getting the same error message. Please help.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

With the pc booted and fully working, the installed fingerprint reader functions corretly. If I shutdown the notebook and I restart it, it still functions and I can unlock / login using the fingerprint. If I reboot manually or if the system reboots for example because of updates are installed, the fingerprint stop working. So I need to reinstall the driver using the "repair driver" feature.

I've seen this thread somewhere before, but I don't think I see a resolution that will help me. My Flex 5 fingerprint hasn't worked for sometime. I've deleted, updated reloaded, disabled the driver and uppated.  I've reinstalled the chip set and went into the bio to make sure the right settings are enabled. I even explored the possibility there might be a register edit (mind you I'm not a programer by any means).  Bottom line is the driver indicates that there is a failure to load (code 10) and has never worked even for a short time since trying to fix it given I noticed some of the discussions indicate a very short term functionality. Anyone have some ideas given this doesn't seem to be a isolated problem?  I am not open to a clean system or total windows install of any kind given I would rather just be disaapointed than invest all of the time that would take.  Thanks!!!

A couple of days back, after a windows update, the fingerprint scanner on my Thinkpad X270 has stopped working.  Initially, in Device Manager, it displayed the following:  "This device cannot start (Code 10)" But after I tried to update the drivers, it now displays: "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31){Operation Failed}The requested operation was unsuccessful." Any ideas what I can do to fix it? It's as if it just suddenly stopped working overnight.

Hi, I have the Lenovo Yoga 720 15 IKB 80X7 (4K display), since many days ago, I'm currently posting this on 7-20-2017, the fingerprint of my laptop stopped working so now In the windows hello sign in menu it shows a message in which it says "Windows Hello is not available on this device", the fingerprint option doesn't appear there anymore. When I check the issue on the "update device drivers menu" an exclamation mark appears next to the synaptics drivers WBDI, in the section of biometric devices. When I click on it to see more information it appears this message: "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31){Operation Failed}The requested operation was unsuccessful." I show you in the picture the information I get in the driver tab. I do not have the option to roll back the driver so I can't make it work again. I checked and it is the last driver available so far but it doesn't work. By the way I have the same exclamation mark and the same message of error in the driver "system interface foundation driver", code 31..., is there any link with it?I've already re installed windows twice through the option "reset this pc" from the configuration menu, one without deleting my files and the other removing all, but I still had the same issue with the fingerprint reader since the beginning of the new start, it didn't work. Does anybody have the same issue and a solution? Thanks in advance

Hi everyone,
Windows 10 updated itself to the Creators Update this week and I notice that my Fingerprint Senor will not work after sleep mode.
When I check the Device Manager it disappeared from device manager and if I choose the show hidden device it says the Synaptics VFS7552 Touch Fingerprint Sensor is disconnected.

I have updated the latest driver from Dell webpage and problem is persists. The only way to "fix" it is to reboot the Laptop and the Fingerprint Sensor will work but when it goes to sleep it will disconnect itself again.

Do anyone know how to fix this issue?
Thanks.

Okey!  Few rounds around the Internet got me absolutely nowhere. Lenovo said that it was a known problem and the only way to fix it is to do a factory reset.... BULLS** is my response to that. Anything software related can be fixed without nuking your system. So i refused to give up and with a bit of trial and error i found a way. You have to tie your Microsoft account to a pin AGAIN! Even if you already had one. I guess the account is tied to your hardware somehow. Here are simple steps to fix it:  1. Make shure to Activate and Resett fingerprint reader in the BIOS Reboot and enter the BIOS (f1 during boot) Go to Security > fingerprint Make sure Predesktop Authentication is [Enabled]And to to "Reset Fingerprint Data" and press [Enter] to reset Save and exit   2. Make shure drivers are up to date and working Run Lenovo Vantage (windows store) to make sure your running the latest drivers for everything including the fingerprint reader. You can also download the drivers directly form Lenovos product support page, but Vantage actually works (so Kudos to Lenovo for that one). After that check you device manager if the driver is running currently. Like this: (Start menu > type "device manager")Like this... I am running Windows 10 on an Acer and recently downloaded and installed the update for the Synaptic touchpad (January 17, 2017).  After rebooting my laptop, I can use the touch pad to move the cursor when logging in, but once the system as loaded,
I cannot move the cursor using the touch pad.  I can left-click and right-click, and shrink and expand on the touch pad, but have no control over the cursor.  I currently have a mouse attached to the computer in order to move the cursor.
When I click on the link for more information about the update, there currently is no information.  Quite frustrating.
Please advise as how to resolve this issue.

Hi Zsofia,

Uninstall the driver and then go to windows update. It will detect your touchpad and install the correct driver software. You should be able to use your touchpad even without the synaptics driver as Vista has native drivers for your touchpad.

Here is the KB article from Adobe on how to fix that error: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/404/kb404946.html

Solution

Important: Adobe does not support modifying the registry, which contains critical system and application information. Make sure to back up the registry before modifying it. For more information about the registry, refer to your Windows documentation or contact Microsoft.
Choose Start > Run.
In the Open box type Regedit and click OK.
Browse to the following keys:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
Verify the drive, path, or variables are valid for each of the keys.
For each of these keys on the right hand side there is a Data column. Each entry that refers to a variable or a path name - each value needs to refer to a valid drive, path or variable. These path names may be unique to your individual PC - to restore the defaults it may be necessary to examine a known working machine, or contact a Microsoft Windows technician for additional help.

I have Windows Vista SP2, running on an Acer Aspire 4730Z, 32-bit OS. My biggest problem right now is that I cannot disable tapping because I can't get into my mouse options. Somehow, during a windows update (which doesn't change during any of the rollbacks I've done) my mouse options became inaccessible.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling. I tried installing a different version of the Synaptics driver, and I tried installing the other acceptable touchpad driver for the Acer Aspire (Alps). The Alps driver didn't work at all and the other versions of Synaptics were worse.

When I uninstall, there are a ton of locked registry keys that stay in the registry and get in the way of a clean new install. I think this might be part of the problem. Even if I change ownership and permissions, I can't seem to get rid of them. I've only tried it with one of them, but I assume the same would go with the whole batch in that location and I don't know if that would help or hurt anyway. I have run sfc/scannow since I didn't think it would hurt anything, but it didn't fix anything. I also ran chkdsk /r and that didn't seem to change or find anything either.

I have searched this topic pretty thoroughly online and, although others have had similar errors and even the same combinations of programs causing errors, none of the suggested fixes have worked for me so far. I need new suggestions.

A possibly related problem is that I keep getting a security ... Read more
