I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

First off, I am an Electronics Technician by trade.  I have 25 years of experience with all kinds of electronics.  This one has me scratching my head.  This all  started because I had an issue with my touchpad so I changed it out.  During the process I removed all power including, power cord, external battery and internal battery.  Replaced the mouse pad and put everything back together.  When I went to power it up I got no response.  Here are the things I have tried. 1. Hold the power button for a minute.  Tap it 10 times then hold anothe minute.2. Remove all batteries and press the power button for 1 minute.3. Remove all batteries and the RAM module and press the power button.4. Press the reset button through the cover on the back of the machine.   5. Lastly I disconnected the CMOS batter along with all other power.  The last step actually let me me boot up my machine and everything was working like normal.  I was happy I had fixed the problem, but I didn't.  Once I shut down the machine it still will not power back up.  I have to disconnect the CMOS battery again in order for me to powe up the machine.  Once the machine comes back I updated the BIOS to the latest version and that didn't help either.  I am stumped!  Any advice that anyone can give me is greatly appreciated.

A:Thinkpad T440s won't power up

It sounds like the power button.  Make sure the little cable is inserted all the way and is straight.  Also, the little board with the actual button might not be mounted correctly.

i've got a T440s that was upgraded to windows 10 about 6 months ago. after installing a new brother printer yesterday, the machine won't boot any more; it just goes directly to automatic repair, then diagnostics, neither of which help. i tried several system restore points, but sr always fails telling me it can't copy the registry. i ran the lenovo hardware diagnostics which fails in the targeted read test of the hard drive with bad sectors. i am backing up all the data (which is on the solid-state drive ?) manually from the cli prompt (that still works) before i do anything else. next planned step is to run the bad sectors tool). i'm wondering if the bad sectors are where the registry (or its backup) is stored, and if so, then will "fixing" the bad sectors destroy the registry to the point where i need to do a refresh. this is the first time i've dealt with a system with a hybrid drive (ssd for start-up & os, hd for storage. since it was originally a windows 8.1 machine will running the refresh put back windows 10, and if so, will it know where to write the refreshed os files to the ssd and hd? all suggestions appreciated.

Everything was working perfectly fine on my T440s with Windows 10 Pro, I am not sure what caused the issue, May be a driver upgrade touchpad is no more working. I suspect that it's not a hardware issue because button clicks works and scrolling in web pages works. The Driver version which I do have currently installed is 19.0.17.115 from Synaptics.  If I open the mouse properties I can change settings for TrackPoint but TrackPad options are grayed out. Can't make any changes.  I tried different drivers from Lenovo, Reinstalled Windows 10, Tried Resetting Windows 10 and Reinstalled drivers but nothing works. I would like to hear from any T440s owners which version of driver they use and if everything is well with Windows 10. I am thinking of making some modifications in the registry to get it back to work.  Any help ?? Thanks in advance!!

HI,I have an annoying issue with my new T440s.Trackpad stops working after I get it out of sleep. In fact, it works partially (two finger, edge scrolling is OK).Even I re-install the driver, it won't work everytime.Any suggestions? Is this a hardware issue?thank you.

A:Thinkpad T440s - trackpad not working after wake up

Just more information about the issue: The trackpad is acting like being disabled in BIOS.2 finger scroll , side scroll are fine. When my screen dims down, I touch the pad and screen is back up."enable touchpad" is grayed out in Mouse Properties under control panel. All trackpad features are fine, only the mouse is not working.Another thing I noticed: when I get to Windows login screen works fine (sometimes), but then, once I get authenticated and get Windows loaded, its stops working.BTW, I'm using Windows 7 Driver reinstall, reload factory image, enabled/disabled in BIOS.. nothing helps.Hopefuly a Lenovo stuff would read this and share some thoughts. This is my second 440s replacement. First one did not wake up, after it gets to sleep.

I have recently purchased a 29" ultrawide LG monitor, with a 21:9 aspect ratio. When I plug it in, it recommends a 2560x1080 screen resolution. I was disappointed as the display settings on my thinkpad only go up to a 1960x1080 resolution.  Is there any way to achieve the correct resolution? I am currently connecting to the monitor using the dual DVI-D cable that came with the monitor.  I am wondering if there is a driver update that will support this, or a change in connection method? Thank you To update:  I am now connected via an HDMI/Display port cable instead of the DVI cable. This has not given me the option to increase my screen resolution in my display settings.

FYI - After much research and consultation I have fixed it. Turns out I needed to update my Intel HD Graphics Driver to the latest version which supports a 2560x1080 resolution. I also purchased the HDMI/Display port cable which didn't solve the problem but probably helps with quality.

Hi you guys!I would like to excuse my bad English in advance. This happened like three days ago. Regular reboot. No forced updates or any installation, just an ordinary reboot. But then, all of a sudden, I couldn't work my ass out of the boot screen. It doesn't go in to loop either, just standing there, acting like a d*ck. I've tried ALL F-buttons but none has worked at all. But if I FN-lock them, I can change the brightness and that kind of stuff - SO, it's responding, but nothing more nothing less. And because I can't choose different boot, neither go into BIOS, I feel kinda f-ed (did my motherboard actually brick it self?!)Tried so far: BIOS battery, int+ext batterypack, w/ and w/o AC adapter, disconnected the harddrive, disconnected the RAM. And you know what? The same screen. ALL of the times.Any suggestions? Try to recover bad sectors (if any) in another computer? I would love to have USB>S-ATA right now, but I'm going to use it ONCE, so that's out of question.Kthxbye, love <888

Hey all, Recently I've been having problems with my T440s ThinkPad not turning on. The first time this happened, I took out the internal battery and it worked! But then it randomly shut off while using it again and it hasn't turned on since. I purchased a new internal battery in hopes of that being the issue and it just arrived today but I still get nothing when trying to power on. I'll run through what I have tried unplugging and plugging back in the internal batteryholding the power button for 60 seconds to discharge itpressing the emergency reset buttonremoving the RAM and placing the RAM back I have done all of these things multiple times except I only reinserted the RAM once. Oddly enough, when the internal battery is unplugged and I plug the AC adpater into the machine, the power LED flashes 3 times. I've searched for this possible LED error "code" and found nothing.  I am desperate for help, I am entering my senior year and as a computer science major it is necessary for me to have a laptop for most of my classes.  Any and all suggestions are welcome. Thanks

Did the redesigned trackpad dramatically improve it? Has the internal battery lasted? Are there any issues with the screen? Thanks in advance.

I've been having some issues with dual display with a T440s and a 40A2009US Ultra Dock. OS is Windows 7 64 Enterprise. I two identical Dell LCDs connected to the dock. One via VGA and the other DVI. Both displays are being mirrored and I can't seem to change it. There is only one monitor listed in Device manager. Both external monitors will only display an image if the PC is started closed from the docking station power button. Removing the laptop and replacing it on the docking station does not wake the monitors and there is no image until the laptop is manually shutdown and restarted. I have updated graphics drivers, as well as any driver related to the dock (USB3.0 etc). I have tried a displayport to DVI connector as well, no go. After some research I discovered the firmare may need to be updated. The synaptics package from the lenovo support downloads site gave me the message that my firmware was already up to date. The other fwdphb06.exe that is recommended elsewhere would not update. When I double-click the package there is no install prompt or process being run. There is an external monitor connected to the dock. I have swapped the dock for another, as well as the power supplies for each. I'm stumped. Any idea what my issue may be?

So, to start with, my original power cable went bad on me.  I'm 99% sure the issue in question was the power cable from the adapter to my laptop (it was acting normally when that was positioned in exactly the right position; otherwise, it wasn't charging or wasn't transmitting power).  I went to Best Buy and picked up an Insignia (Best Buy house brand as far as I can tell) 90W AC Adapter.  It seems to rate at 19V/4.74A.Well, lo and behold my computer is "refusing" to charge while active.  It seems to charge just fine when it is asleep or otherwise out-of-service but it won't charge when it is active (regardless of what power settings, etc. I'm using; yes, I tried to muck about). Is this a bad unit?  Is it a bad model of adapter?  Or is this just Lenovo's software being a passive aggressive pain?

Hello, I finally got my new Thinkpad Yoga S1, but there seem to be some issues with the NFC module. After startup, if I open the device manager it looks fine, but after a few minutes the "NFC proximity device" driver status changes to shows "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)". Under Details > Problem Code it says "0000002B", and under Details > Problem Status "The Request is not supported/C00000BB". In the System Event Log I am also getting a few "BcmNfcIc driver has failed initializing NFC device." errors at the time it fails. If I do a right-click > Disable and then right-click > Enable on the device, it works again for a few minutes, but then shows the same error again. I'm using Windows 8.1, fully updated with Windows update, and all drivers/BIOS updated using the Lenovo tool. The NFC driver is version 1.1.0.3130 from 17/12/2013. I also had an issue where the Lenovo QuickControl together with "Windows Driver Foundation - User-Mode Driver" background process took up 95% of the CPU time all the time, which I solved by deinstalling QuickControl. I'm thinking the two issues might be related, with the QuickControl trying to unsuccesfully poll the NFC device. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Jan

The IBM ThinkPad I have crashed. It started off only crashing when the sims 3 ran. It progressed to the point where you can not start it up without getting multi colored lines running through the screen. I can include a picture or two of it as an example. I am not even sure if this is the right forum to post this in but if you can help, it would be great.

A:Solved: IBM ThinkPad with some issues

Hi,

It might be the start of this issue which is seen with many ThinPads>> http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Talk:Problem_with_garbled_screen
Doing anything might create more problems so the first thing to do is make sure you have any files or data you need backed up safe on some other computer or media like CDs.

The support site for IBM ThinkPads is now at Lenovo, in case you do not know how to get there, please post the exact model and the complete system ID found underneath on a tag/label it might look something like this:

600E 2645-AU

390E 2626 etc

I can direct you to the correct support pages for your machine then, and you can look things over, they have extensive records of all kinds of issues that are solvable in some cases. If the video chip on the motherboard has been damaged>> some are replaceable, motherboards definitely are, but it takes a good laptop person to do that.

Hopefully, the issue will not turn out to warrant replacement, maybe reinstalling video drivers or updating will help but as I said, save anything needed first!

Ever since I had to format and reinstall WinXP my laptop, it has developed several annoying issues. First that developed was the built in touchpad and trackpoint stopped working intermittantly. Even with updating the driver, they seldom work. I found that opening the properties page in device manager makes it work for about 10 seconds, then it cuts out. Even then, it only allows the touchpad to function for the time, leaving the trackpoint useless. That doesn't matter to me, since I can use the USB mouse when I'm in the house. It just would be nice to rely on the touchpad when I need it!

Then a couple months later, the keyboard cuts out. Not completely, mind you... It works during POST, it works when it asks you to choose OS (I dual booted for 2k and XP), and most of the time it works for me to input my password into the user select screen of WinXP. The cutting out of the KB is completely random, though I've noticed that it's more frequent to cut out when loading IE or Firefox too soon after booting up, though it is not limited to the loading of those programs. Some times, it will get past POST and OS selection, but not work to enter the password.

The IBM troubleshooting page has been useless. All they want to say is that the KB is shot, but that's only because the only options is "The keyboard does not work at all!", which is not the case. I am typing this on the laptop in question as we speak, so obviously it works.

My only thought is t... Read more

Hi,I have a 2nd generation Thinkpad Yoga 12.5 inch notebook. I have had this computer for about 18 months and the screen is completely ruined in many places. I have the matte screen and it appears that the pen has been scratching the soft matte finnish at many places. There are also big smudges from the keyboard that does not go away when I try to clean the screen. I am happy with this laptop overall, but I think it is terrible design to fail to make sure that the screen and keyboard is not touching when the lid is closed! Is it possible to fix these screen issues? Looking at the corner of the the screen, it looks like there is a screenprotector or similar on the device. Is this how Lenovo makes their matte screens? Just pasting a screen protector on top of a glossy screen? If so, would it be possible for me to remove it without damaging the actual screen and get rid of the scratches and smudges? Cheers Cheers

Hallo, I have a problem with my 3 yo X230 where the battery is fast empty, only 20 minutes from full charging although I only open 1 program (Excel/word/etc.). Should I change the battery ? In lenovoquickpick.com, the battery seems for type X230T (Part number: 0A36317). Can it be used for X230 ? From the picture shown in web, it is different from the battery installed in my laptop (4 cells). Now I am in Germany and quit difficult to find Lenovo people who can speak English well. Thank you

Or use powercfg command for win8/10. It might tell something about battery healthy.

Hi All, I thinking of buying a ThinkPad T560. I was considering a P50, but it seems there may be issues with cracking of the palm rest. Are there any common failure issues with the T560? I currently have a ThinkPad T500; this had three screens replaced under warranty (which is not great!), but other than that this machine has performed OK. I travel a lot overseas on business, and the T500 has been tough enough to withstand all of this. When I buy laptops, I want them to last 9 years. Any feedback would be appreciated. Jamie

I've recently updated my machine.- Firmware for OneLink Pro (2.30.000 9-May-2016)- Driver for OneLink Pro (v11016 9-Sep-2016)- BIOS Update (did the update September 10th 2016) Since that I have several issues:- plugging in an SD card: Onelink "reconnects" audio via onlink diasables, network (wireless) reconnects; the same happens randomly several times a day. sometimes spotify stops working and I need to restart Spotify - Very annoying: Speakers connected to the OneLink make very loud noises (sounds like bad grounded electric system) whe the OneLink Pro ist reconnecting and when the Laptop ist "off" and Power for speakers and OneLink Proi ist "on" - When shutting down, the i-dot at the ThinkPad-logo keeps flashing. So it doesn't turn off completely  What might help: beeing able to get back to the former driver and firmwar, but I do not seem to be able to download them :-/ Any hints appeciated. Best regards!Markus PS: I am not a native English speaker - Hope, you're getting my points

My employer has provided me with a brand new Lenovo T460 ThinkPad along with a docking station and two Thinkvision screens. I have connected the laptop to the docking station and used the Intel graphics properties to extend my display to my two screens (I keep the laptop shut). However, when i disconnect my laptop from the docking station so that I can use it at home, I no longer have anything displayed on the laptop, as if it won't revert back to the laptop display. Is there somewhere i can alter the settings to correct this?? Thanks

Hi! I have bought a T450s with Win7 and a ThinkPad USB 3.0 Pro dock recently and I have had some problems with the dock.BIOS and drivers are up to date on the computer and the dock can work sometime but only when the dock itself installs drivers from Windows update. If I disconnect the dock from the computer more than a couple of minutes it won't work again, it shows up on Devices and Printers but the external screen, ethernet, mouse and external keyboard wont work anymore. What I've discovered is:- When the dock works there is atleast 5 different things listed under the hardware tab of the device (can't remember what, and I can't get it working again)- When it's not working but the dock shows up on the Device and Printers there is only 2 things listed under the hardware tab, USB 2.0 nav and USB 2.0 nav. These are also listed there when it works.- I don't know why the dock doesn't run on USB 3.0 at any point.- When the dock works I can't update the firmware, it just says "No device found" when running the firmware update. What I've done so far:- Completely removed/reinstalled all drivers several times- Checked that BIOS is up to date- Checked in the BIOS if USB 3.0 is enabled- Sent the dock back to Lenovo and have gotten a new one, still same problem.Anyone have some ideas of what's wrong? Google and I'm running out of ideas..

A:T450s and ThinkPad USB 3.0 Pro dock issues

I hear you. I have the same problem with a T460s. And so far i have done the same thing. However, it's working on other 2 computers same model without a single error. And also i have a Toshiba Windows 10 computer, that I just plugged in and the drivers were downloaded through Windows Update quick, it was completely a plug and play experience.  But on Windows 7 doesn't seems to work... I don't know what's going on. It still shows up  as USB 2.0 hub
