Ideapad y500 suddenly died and won't turn back on.

Q: Ideapad y500 suddenly died and won't turn back on.

I've been using this laptop for a few years now, and while it has its fair share of small problems (track pad not working, keyboard coming loose and sometimes not working, speakers slowly dying, start ups where the screen doesn't turn on.) Despite those issues I always found a way to either fix or at least work around the problems until today.I was just watching YouTube videos when the laptop without any warning shut off instantly, even though it was plugged in, and mostly charged. After that none of the power lights would go on at all, not even the charging one. I tried unplugging it, removing the battery, holding down the power button for 30 second, and every combination of those steps I could think of. Is there any hope of saving this laptop, or is it bricked?

Preferred Solution: Ideapad y500 suddenly died and won't turn back on.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi All, My laptop (E50-70)  is almost 3 years. The battery behaves normally most of time. But sometimes it died suddenly without plugging into mains after 5 minutes used when it was waken up from sleep mode. This happened many times even the battery was fully charged before entering sleep mode. But everytime, when I took out the battery from laptop, and put it back then plugged into mains to charge it. It behaved normally again until unexpected same incident happened again. Do you have similar experience? Any idea what's wrong? Many thanks,Cheers,J

I was doing work on my laptop when suddenly it made a small "bzz" sound as if powering down and switched off. It will not turn back on and I have tried removing the battery for 5 minutes and putting it back in with and without AC plugged in, but it will not turn back on. I haven't really had any problems at all before this, and I have a lot of vital work that I had not yet backed up that I really can't lose. It is 4 years old and I got it in 2012 so I'm pretty sure it's out of warranty.  Any suggestions to turn it back on/ get back any work I may have lost?

I have a ABIT SLI Mobo, 64 bit Dual 3800+AMD Proc, 6800GS PCI-Ex16 Card and Antec PSU.

Built system was running awesome for 3 weeks. Rendered an Image and left it running and left the house. Came back and it was OFF. WONT RESTART!

I see a red light glowing on MOBO but when I unplug the cord it goes out and comes back on when I replug it in.

I figured the PSU was fine because of the red light coming on and off. SO i replaced the MOBO. Still nothing.

Is is possible that the Graphics Card took a poop?? Would that cause the system not to turn on if it died(fans ect....)

Does the red light mean that the PSU is bad??

Any help would be great.

A:Computer died! Wont turn back on???? Help!

unless the video card has some kind of short in it then that should not keep the system from booting or at least giving you some beeps. if the power supply went bad it is possible that not only it is dead but that it damaged other components. like the CPU, ram and video card.

if you have access to another PSU you should try it. if not, places like office depot and circuit city sell antec power supply testers for 10-14 dollars.

So a few weeks ago I was using my Acer Aspire M5 series and it died on me, which isn't that surprising my battery has always sucked, but now it won't turn back on or charge. I've tried different cords, and the charging light never comes on and it never turns on either. Recently when I tired a new cord I noticed that I could hear a constant clicking sound. I don't have the money to take it in right now, and it's extremely inconvenient because I have online classes that I need to work on. I've tried searching for answers, and a few months ago I had to find a new cord, and it's almost like this laptop doesn't exist. It took me over an hour to find a cord online for it and I never found any specific information on it when I searched for it. It's been extremely frustrating. I've really hit a brick wall with this laptop, and I'd appreciate any help or advice I could get, on the problem or the laptop itself.

A:Acer Laptop Died and Won't Turn Back On

It sounds like possibly the charging port plug is broken. It is a fairly common issue on these laptops. Take a light and look into the port and see if you can tell if the pin is missing or broken. Then it depends on how comfortable you are with opening your computer to test and possibly fix.

Everything was fine, laptop unplugged, battery ran out, replugged adapter and restarted, crashed as it reloaded so I went with a surprise reboot, the laptop won't turn back on now.  Can not remove the battery on this model. Have tried unplugging and holding the power button for both 15 and 30 seconds then replugging. Have tried the same but pressing 15 times in 1 second intervals.

I use an HP Pavillion dv5003cl Notebook I have owned since April 2006. I have had several problems with it and I think this might have been the last straw. I hope there is a fix for it because I cant afford a new laptop just yet so any help will be appreciated.

Yesterday i was using my laptop conncected to a 500 GB WD external hard drive. I began hearing this high pictched whine and I assumed it was my fan since it had been on for a while. suddenly it shut off, as if I had pulled out the battery. Pressed the power button several times but it did nothing. Then i noticed the high pitched noise was still audible (and more annoying than ever). Turned out it was coming from the power supply, primarily the big brick shaped section. It is the 3rd power cord I've owned, all my other ones keep breaking or stop working.

Anyway I dont think it's the problem because i have used another power cord and it didnt charge the battery or allow the computer to power up. I have also tried the 'hold power button for 30 sec then connect power and turn on then connect battery' routine to discharge any power in the comp but to no avail. Is it dead or is there a way i can fix it?

Man I never thought buying this pda phone 3 weeks ago would be so helpful...well now I'm stuck with it as my only means for internet access ): please help!

A:Computer suddenly shuts off, won't turn back on

Try this... without the defective PSU(Power Supply) or any other power source plugged into the notebook.

Then try the 30-sec, no-battery installed thing.

With your PSU "exploding" - it might have fried your notebook. Hopefully data on drive is still good. Even if your notebook is alive, it may still be damaged... and those HPs are not quite good...

Look at ThinkPads (starting at $550 with Core2Duo CPUs) soon...

I was working on my laptop about an hour ago and suddenly it shut down without any warning and it's not booting up anymore. I've tried hard reset but no success. I've submitted a request with lenovo under warranty but will like to fix it on my own if possible. It make a beeping sound when I turn it on. I've attached a video

Can you identify the beep code from this webpage, and post the result ? After seeing the video and checking the chart myself I think you will have to return it under warranty, unless customer support can identify the error as user fixable issue (I doubt it).

My Lenovo B50-30 suddenly shut down when I was watching a 1080p video. At first I thought it overheated so I left it a while but when I came back to it, it won't turn on. I followed the instructions from online, like taking out the battery, pressing the power button 10 times, holding it down for 30s, removing and putting the ram back in and none of the steps worked. When I plug the power adapter back in, there is no charging light. Does anybody know if it could be fixed or what the fault is? My laptop is over 2 years old so out of warranty and I have lots of data that's now lost at the moment.

Greetings, Today I was playing a game called Overwatch and I noticed that my laptop was getting pretty hot. This had happened before so I didn't think much of it. Then, suddenly, my screen went black and there was no signs of life for the laptop, even when it was plugged into the AC adapter. I let it cool down for a little while and upon plugging the AC adapter back in, i noticed that the power brick was making a ticking noise. I suspect that either the laptop just overheated or there was some sort of power surge to the computer, seeing as it wont turn back on. Help me please?  Thanks

It absolutely sucks because i didnt get the extended warranty and this lantop just went out of the warranty . Its 21 days after the warranty.I see a lot of people with this issue and i called hp support and they wanted to charge me 59.99 to to troubleshoot the labtop with me over the phone and if that doesnt work that it will be credited towards the parts of fixing this problem... i dont know why this guy was persistent to ask for the 59.99 up front when he can just tell me how to factory reset.

This is as good as any. That is a great old classic laptop but has to be about 15 years old. I have to conclude it has passed on. Where do you live (country)? We could probably find you an nc6000 on eBay for less than $50 and you could put your hard drive in and boot it up and at least get your data off. You could also use another computer, remove the hard drive from the nc6000, get an inexpensive usb adapter and get your working files off the nc6000 and go on down the road.

It was defintily dead. plugged back in power port. The blinking light came back. the fan spans. just computer does not boot up. What are the odds both batter and power adapter both dead.  thanks for your help,

I have a lenovo ideapad y500 with a 1366x768 screen, and I am looking to pop open the screen, and replace the panel with a 1920x1080 screen. Assuming that I purchase another 15.6 inch screen (size of the original screen), is this possible? A model of the y500 is sold with a 1080p display, and the graphics card in my model is more than capable of outputting such a resolution. I was just wondering if there is a chance that the connections between my laptop and new screen would not match as I do not know if there is some sort of standard port with screens. Thanks!

A:Screen upgrade lenovo ideapad y500

You would need to find out the exact model of the 1080p screen was that was sold with that model and order the same one or compatible replacement model. Laptop screens are not universally interchangeable and you can't just buy any screen and connect it.

Hi guys, this is my first post in these forums. Now, I searched a lot for a solution to my problem, but now I'm creating this thread.I got a Lenovo Ideapad Y500, and it worked really well for like a month, then I started hearing this really loud whirring noise and some vibration coming from the left side of the laptop, near the heat vents. I shut my laptop off and when I turned it backon It was gone. But now the noise is back and whenever I reboot my laptop is goes away but then it comes back after a while. Also, whenever I run the dust removal thingy in the Lenovo energy management app, It gets really loud then it goes away.I don't really feel lots of air coming out from the vent on the leftside of the laptop. I think it might be a fan problem but my laptop stays around 45-65 Celsius mostly. I don't know how hot it runs when I play games, though. Any help on this unnatural whirring sound that starts after a while is really appreciated.

In a nutshell, I noticed that my laptop screen would randomly start turning off for no reason while the laptop was still running. The "fix" for this would be to open the laptop up farther. Eventually, only the most wide-open orientation would allow the screen to display, and even that has ceased to work consistently. So I have read other posts about display issues that are common, so I will try to be as specific as I can. THIS IS NOT:  A software issue, as best I can tell. My screen does not show lines or strange patterns, it just goes black. And I don't mean the display goes  blank, it actually turns off. No light. A screen issue, I don't think. The screen displays perfectly well for short periods, and then just cuts off. It seems to be effected by the position of the display (e.g. How open the laptop is). I have to open the laptop as far as it will go for best effect, and even then, the screen will simply shut off after several minutes. Sometimes I can find a "sweet spot", and get the display to function for an hour or more, so long as I don't jostle the laptop more forcefully than using keystrokes. A GPU issue. I have hooked up the laptop, during period of screen blackness, to an external display. Everything shows up fine, which I understand would not happen if the GPU was having problems. MY MAIN QUESTION FOR THOSE SMARTER AND MORE SKILLED THAN I:Is the issue likely a loose screen cable, or something similar? Something that would cau... Read more

So, long story short. I accidentally deleted my recovery partition and now it seems like the only thing that will get my laptop up and running normally again is a recovery disc from Lenovo. I just got off the phone with customer service and they informed me that recovery discs can not be ordered in USB form.  This is where my main issue is. My Lenovo Ideapad Y500 laptop did not come with a CD-ROM Drive. With that being said, I do not want to spend $69 on a recovery disc that will require me to purchase an external CD-ROM drive that potentially won't even work... When I asked customer support if I could return and get a refund for the disc if it will not boot through an external CD-ROM drive, they said no. Has anyone been able to run a recovery disc from an external cd-rom drive successfully? Any suggestions? I'm at my wit's end with this thing...

Hello. As the title says, my Ideapad Y500 is starting to have some issues. A week ago it refused to shut down. Screen would turn off but not the laptop, which would remain kind of dormant. Following some advice online I uninstalled Express Cache form the Control Panel. Now the system turns off, but I have a new problem, this time booting up.Whenever I boot up the laptop it goes to the Lenovo splash screen, then black, then resets to the splash screen and stays there forever. If I shut it down manually and then boot it up again, it goes to Windows as it should, but the whole process takes from 2 to 10 minutes. If I try to restart the system, same thing happens.  If I keep doing this I fear one day it will just die on me.Added to this, I've been getting intermitent failures of the Intel RST software, which sometimes just won't work at all. Other times it's fine. I read somewhere I should update the drivers but I don't know where to find them or if hey may harm my pc even more.I'm running Windows 8.1 (64 bits). So far, besides uninstallid Express Cache, I have run chkdsk on both disks on my system and they appear to be fine (or at least nothing comes up when running the scan). Beyond this, I have no clue how to proceed. I'm not a especially tech savvy person, so any help you guys might give me will be greatly appreciated it. Also, if you can explain it as clear and simply as possible, it would be that much better. Thanks a lot!

Hello Lenovo Community,I currently have a Lenovo Y500 Ideapad. I personally love the processing power of my laptop and have found it to satisfy most of my needs. The problem I seem to be having is with the quality of the keyboard. After about a month after purchase, one of my keys (the F key) seemed to have fallen off. I noticed after examining it that the plastic that holds the keys on simply snapped off (about 5mm of cheap plastic to hold the keys on). I sent it in and have recieved a whole new keyboard within a week. 3 weeks later and my S key has broken again. I do have warranty on it but it is a pain to sendit in EVERY 3 weeks to get a single key fixed. I was wondering if this was simply my bad luck or poor Lenovo keyboard design. I am considering returning my computer or scrapping it to get a new one with better quality. Someone let me know if it's just me that is experience this or if Lenovo has serious issues with their key design.Sincerely,Angry Lenovo Customer.

So it only appears when i just unplug the power cable and leave it. I have read some topics(some ppl have the same problem) but i haven't find any solution. Is there any solution to solve this problem?? Bios version is the latest one.. I'm assuming you have win 8. Try this:On the Windows 8 Start Screen, press CNTL + ALT + DEL.On the next screen select the Power icon located in the lower Right. When the options appear, press the SHIFT key and select "Restart". When the next screen appears, select "Turn off your PC". The unit will power down completely.See if you still have the battery draining.Note: Even if the unit is off, a little drain is expected to maintain the clock, etc.

I found that the version which is running on my Windows 10 system is 11.5.0.1207 .  The latest version from Intel is 15.9.0.1015 (date 11/14/2017 https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/55005/Intel-Rapid-Storage-Technology-Intel-RST). I do not see a recent version on the Lenovo website.  Which version is recommended by Lenovo or can I install? My disks are:SanDisk SSD U100 16GBST1000LM024 HN-M101MBB 931GB For some Lenovo products I see new? downloads from 2012 which was Windows 8, so not very recent ..(https://support.lenovo.com/nl/en/downloads/) Thanks in advance!

I have an Ideadpad Y500 (Model 20193) running Windows 8.1. It has the original/factory 15gb mSATA SSD and ~1tb conventional SATA HDD. The two drives (SSD and HDD) are managed by Intel Rapid Storage, a sort of software RAID management utility. Although Windows Disk Management (via Control Panel \ Administrative Tools) sees the two drives as separate devices (see below), they are in a RAID, so to normal Windows, they just look like a single HDD. I want to remove the SSD from the RAID. It is throwing frequent errors. My Windows Event Viewer (via Control Panel \ Administrative Tools) is full of hundreds thousands of warnings about problems with the SSD. It is nearing end of life. A few times a day the computer will reboot -- but only when running Windows. When I am running Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (Linux) it will run for a year without rebooting. I suspect that the Ubuntu installation is bypassing the Intel Rapid Storage software RAID and just directly using the ~1tb SATA HDD (ignoring the 15gb SSD).  I can access the Intel Rapid Storage management program in Windows, but it doesn't give me the option to break apart the RAID; to remove the SSD from the RAID. Supposedly there's a way to access it during POST by pressing ctrl-I, but that doesn't work for me. I can't figure out how to access the Intel Rapid Storage management via BIOS and that's the only place where I could (in theory) break apart the RAID and remove the SSD from the equation.  I realize, of course,... Hey,

I was just browsing the web and transferring some photos from my camera when my computer suddenly turned off in an instant, and now it won't turn back on.

I have had to replace my PSU twice already so I suspect that that may be the problem, but how can I be sure? And what can I do to stop it happening again?

Thanks,

- Danjb

All four of my usb ports died suddenly. They have power enough to light up a thumb drive. They do not appear in the device manager, although the controllers do appear. Any suggestions?

I was playing a game online at a friends house, using their wireless, when all of a sudden my wireless died. I thought it was just their wireless but when i went home to connect on mine, i still had a problem.

I've tried turning the switch on and off to no prevail. When i go to connect to a network, my wireless detects nothing. I found an option to find the problem, and it told me my wireless was turned off, so i checked the switch and it was on. i also went to my computer and to device manager, and checked my network devices and they are apparently all working fine, so i really don't know what the problem is here. Please help...

A:Wireless died suddenly, help

Quite the mystery!!!

If your card was disabled or not working it wouldn't show up with this much information in the ipconfig /all report.

It also looks like you're on Windows Vista of some sorts since your home path is: C:\Users

Your Wireless card's network stack is also working. It's assigning itself an Automatic Private IP Address. (APIPA) That's the weird little address that you get starting with 169.xxx.xxx.xxx in the IPv4 Address line. Usually to me, it means that you computer tried to ask the network for an address but nothing was configured to respond to it. So it gave itself an address - which is mostly useless in this case.

I think, maybe, could you try to disable any firewall settings? (Just turn your firewall(s) to Off and test again to see if the problem went away.) If it goes away, then you know that some rule in the firewall is doing this to you. Do you have Symantec Anti-virus installed? Because I've seen that come with a firewall that screws up a computer on more than one occasion. It wouldn't be the right way to configure a firewall, but it might be blocking the broadcast responses.

Hello.I was using my t420 just fine, no symptomps or malfunctions, till today.I powered on the laptop and after the light and the caps lock led flashed, the wifi icon went on and nothing else happened. The screen reamained off (not just black, really off with no backlight). I've removed the two dimms (one first, then the other), i removed every drive and pci device, deattached the system battery for a minute, replaced the thermal thing between the cpu and the thing that cools the cpu (sorry I'm not english) and yet nothing. Then, when I've reassembled it entirely, it goes on, giving me the message "machine type and serial number are invalid", then goes normally to the desktop. After I power it off, it is dead again. Sorry for the long post. Can you help me? Is there something I can do, besides throwing it in the trashcan?
