Windows 8 Acer Desktop infected

Q: Windows 8 Acer Desktop infected

My Desktop is infected with some sort of ad virus that auto-clicks and navigates when I'm on the web.  It jumps away from the page I'm on at any given time to all sorts of random product sites and opens new tabs on its own.  Its exceedingly frustrating to navigate with and its slowing down my computers performance.  Any insight would be great! Im currently posting this from another machine since the issues make it nearly impossible to type out anything of length via browser. McAfee is nonexistant for some reason and im hesitant to start downloading removal software without some guidance.

I understand there's no DDS for Windows 8, whats next for me to get to the bottom of this?
Thanks
-Chris

Preferred Solution: Windows 8 Acer Desktop infected

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello ChrisComp and welcome to BleepingComputer!

My name is Sirawit and I'm here to help you.

Please note that I'm currently in training and my fixes need to be approved first, that may delay our fix a bit, but I will normally reply back in 24 hours.

If I don't reply after 2 days, feel free to PM me.
==========================================================================Some points for you to keep in mind:
Backup any files that cannot be replaced. Removing malware can be unpredictable and this step can save a lot of heartaches if things don't go as planned. You can put them on a CD/DVD, external drive or a pen drive, anywhere except on the computer.
We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability.
Please do not run any tools or take any steps other than those I will provide for you while we work on your computer together. I need to be certain about the state of your computer in order to provide appropriate and effective steps for you to take. Most often "well intentioned" (and usually panic driven!) independent efforts can make things much worse for both of us. If at any point you would prefer to take your own steps please let me know, I will not be offended. I would be happy to focus on the many others who are waiting in line for assistance.
Do not attach logs or use code boxes, just copy and paste the text.
Periodically update me on the condition of your computer, and provide detail in every post.
In the upper right hand corner of the topic you will see the  button. Click on this then choose Immediate E-Mail notification and then Proceed and you will be sent an email once I have posted a response.
If you do not reply to your topic after 5 days we assume it has been abandoned and I will close it.
Once things seem to be working again, please do not abandon the thread. I will give an "all-clean" message at the very end with some additional information on how to stay malware-free.
Lastly, I would like to remind you that most members here are volunteers, and sometimes "real life" can get in the way of our malware hunt. I will notify you if I know I will need to be away for longer than 48 hours.

Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST)
Download Farbar Recover Scan Tool for either 32 bit or 64 bit systems and save it to your desktop.
If you are unsure if you have 32 bit or 64 bit simply download and try one. If that doesn't run properly the other one should.
Double click the icon.
Click Yes to the disclaimer.
Make sure the Addition.txt box is checked.
Click Scan and allow the program to run.
Click OK on the Scan complete screen, then OK on the Addition.txt pop up screen.
2 Notepad documents should now be open on your desktop.
Please copy and paste the contents of both in your reply
Thank you.

I restarted my computer like normal and for whatever reason the computer is now stuck at the Acer boot screen. I try to press DEL to enter Setup and I even tried pressing F12 to go into the Boot Setup, but for whatever reason the computer does not respond to anything.

To shut it off I have to hold down the power button and eventually it shuts off.

Stuff to know:
- I have a wireless mouse and keyboard being used on that desktop.. Should I perhaps try to plug in a corded mouse and keyboard?
- I'm running on Windows 7 Ultimate.
Thanks

Yes, you should be able to add a sparate video card in, replacing the NVIDIA GeForce 6150 SE that's built into the motherboard. IIRC there is one x16 slot and one x1 slot.

Acer Aspire M3800 Desktop

4GB of RAM
640GB 7200RPM Hitachi Hard Drive 3.0 Gb/s

The background:
Hard Drive crashed. I spent $795 for a data recovery company to recover the defective hard drive. I gave them a Western Digital Caviar Black 32MB Cache 7200 RPM 1TB 3.0Gb/s SATAII hard drive to transfer all the recovered data to (included the original Vista system recovery files). The files were recovered 100%. I transferred the recovered files to a Seagate external usb 500GB hard drive. I used a ATA/IDE to USB adapter to and connected to my laptop to wipe the WD Caviar HD clean using Ubuntu and then partitioned (20GB / 980GB) and then formated (NTFS). Installed the WD Caviar HD into the Acer and attempted to do a clean install of Windows 7 Professional with no success.

The problem(s):
#1: The computer kept shutting down while Win7 is Expanding Windows files (0%). I discovered that the SATA Controllers were set to RAID. I changed them to IDE and noticed improvement. However, Win7 would keep shutting down during Expanding Windows Files (21%, 33%, 55%, 56%, 63%....10 freakin' times until finally, it installed).

#2: I noticed the BIOS needed an updating. I couldn't figure out how to use a USB thumb drive to flash the BIOS in DOS at startup. Tried several times and several ways to no avail. I gave up and proceeded with installation attempts #4, 5 and 6. Any assistance with this problem would be greatly appreciated. I tri... Read more

A:Windows 7 Professional Will Not Install on Acer 3800 Desktop

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

I think your Windows 7 partition is too small at 20 GB.

With a 1 TB hard drive you can afford to allocate more space for Windows - I'd suggest 100 GB should be more than enough for Windows 7 and any applications you install.

Original ACER desktop with Windows 8 and it was upgraded through the Windows Store to Windows 8.1
The upgrade came up with errors "the Secure Boot watermark".
I tried various things suggested to fix the error but was unable to.
I backed up the computer data.
I formatted the drive and installed Windows 8.1 from a thumb drive and it installed correctly without errors.
I was unable to install a Product Key Licence as the computer had it imbedded in the bios and I have no label with the key on the machine.
I should not have to purchase another licence. How do I find the original licence key?
I would appreciate any help. Thanks in advance

Boot from a Windows 7 DVD and use System Restore to roll back Windows to a point in time when your computer was functioning correctly. It allows you to undo system changes without affecting your personal files, such as e-mail, documents, or photos.

Hi. I unwisely clicked on a Facebook link and was taken to a page which I was unable to leave. I finally turned off the computer and when I restarted it the screen just showed black with the cursor. After Googling the problem, I've tried system repair, system restore, restoring in safe mode, changed SATA to IDE, taken out the battery and depressed the start button, and changed the Boot order but none of these have worked. I can't access my antivirus/antimalware packages. It would be a personal disaster for me if I'm forced to return the laptop to its initial state as I've only backed up some of my data. I would be grateful for any help/advice. Thanks.

Please HELP!

I ran Avast virus scan two days ago and it said that I had about 6,000 infected files. All of these files were from Windows\Installer\eo2dbd02-62a9-821b.....

the last remaining viruses it picked up were "Desktop.ini" and "Services.exe"

I successfully deleted the Windows\Installer Trojans but it was not able to delete the Services.exe. or Desktop.ini

I did not think much of it until today when I started up my computer and it froze. Now every time I restart it freezes as soon as I click on the desktop.

I tried to restore it from a previous version from two days ago and managed to do it successfully but a few hours later the exact same thing happens...it just freezes.

I also tried getting a clean "services.exe" file from my other computer which also has Windows 7 on it and switching it with the bad one...(I re named the bad one and copied the good one while in safe mode)......absolutely nothing happened it still freezes on startup.

Please help, I have a lot of important files on my computer and I do not have backup.

Check your Task Scheduler. My dad once had a malware that created a task that ran on every hour of every day, to run a file that had been hidden on the hard drive. Delete all of the Scheduled Tasks that you haven't created yourself, and delete any files that it references.

Hope that helps!

hey guys I have a possibly terminal case here I've worked on and cannot resolve. Brother's Acer desktop running windows 7 64-bit, he took the bait and switched to windows 10, and he is not a technical guy.
It ran into a bad device driver apparently and never booted win 10 successfully. I had him build a recovery usb, we did that, went into troubleshooting, asked for boot options to try to get it into safe mode, but it bailed again just like trying to startup any other way. Auto repair to no avail [he tried that about a hundred times].

short of pulling the drive and starting over again with a new drive, do any of you have a suggestion?

thank you

I have a custom desktop with an ssd. Windows 10 was installed however I think I got a virus from some online game. Anyway now mbam won't install (svchost.exe access denied), sfc is saying there's corruption, and rkill is saying that there's missing services and incorrect imagepaths. I decide to just completely format the drive (using the windows 10 installer, i removed all partitions until it was all unallotocated space and then created a new partition). Then I installed win10 fresh, and the first thing I try to do is run rkill, which shows the SAME services are missing and the same incorrect imagepaths. Also mbam wont install with the same error as earlier. I'm baffled by this. Thanks in advance for advice.

Windows was behaving as if I had just started the computer up for the first time (showing me the "welcome screen"), my task manager was inaccessible, and for whatever reason Outlook Express had been uninstalled and all my email accounts and messages deleted. Hey There

First of all: I'm a studend, so I can't speek good english, cause I live in Switzerland (plz write in German if you can )

So my Problem:

I've found a Acer Aspire 5920G with Windows Vista. This was so slow and annoying . So I deleded the whole OS and installed Win 7 Home Premium x64. Now I'm searching some drivers for my Notebook. My biggest Problem is the sound driver.
In Vista, there was a tool called "Acer eAudio Manager". I want to install it, because you can switch the equalizer to movie, music and game (and it sounds awesome with the bassbooster=D). I've downloaded the driver from the website and there was a error:

"This software can only be installed in authorized machine"

what can I do to install this tool? Some other tools, like acer power management or acer enet management, works great.

I thought I ask in this forum, because there were some good topics about the mouspad and synaptic of the 5920G (wich helped me=D)

I hope you understand my question and can help me

My system is roughly 5 months old. I had used the upgrade software that Acer provided to upgrade from Vista to 7 home premium. There was no issues with the install and everything worked great for a month and then it started going in to deep hibernation. The only way to wake it was to unplug the power from the tower. I did everything I could think of from editing the registry to updating drivers, to finally reinstalling everything. No go so I packed it up and sent it back to Acer. I just got it back from Acer's repair depot. They had to replace the motherboard, hard drive, and fans on the system. They performed a factory restore and told me that I was good to go and updating shouldn't be an issue. I went to use the upgrade dvd's from Acer and low and behold, the hibernation thing started again! It took me four attempts to restore it back to factory. Now it seems stable running Vista. I am in the process up updating the drivers and windows stuff so time will tell. Is it me or is Acer systems flakey?

Does anyone have any recommendations on how I can go about updating to Windows 7 without having to format every week? I have tried doing clean installs without going the upgrade path and it still behaves badly. Sometimes it won't even turn on. Or is it just possible that the pc I purchased just can't handle Windows 7?

A:Acer Aspire M3203 and Acer's Windows 7 upgrade software

Are you booting the Acer Win7 Upgrade Media DVD to do a clean install? You can do that to get the cleanest possible install, without the corruption that is imported from Vista in an in-place Upgrade.

The installer is driver-complete, but afterwards any missing drivers which don't quickly arrive in Optional Windows Updates can be found on the apps/drivers CD along with favorite apps like Works, cam, etc. Others can be found on the Acer Support Downloads webpage for your model computer, Adobe (flash, Reader) and Java (runtime, free Ofc suite) sites.

Hello All. I seem to be infected with some rather malicous malware. It redirects most search engine results upon click to advertisments. I have followed a trusted friends advice and booted into safe mode, ran Rkill, then scanned with Malwarebytes and someinfections were found and removed. However, when i boot back into normal mode AVG still prompts to remove the following infected files:

c:\windows\assembly\GAC_32\Desktop.ini
c:\windows\assembly\GAC_64\Desktop.ini

Threat name: Trojan horse backdoor.generic15.AXLA

However, the "move to vault" option fails with AVG in normal mode.

I am not sure where to go from here, and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi,After performing these scans, enter the results in your next post and also update me on the status of the PC.Note: You may have to perform some or all of the following in Safe Mode With Networking, depending on if you have internet access while in the normal Windows environment. If you still don't have internet access in Safe Mode With Networking, you will need to download the installers onto a flash drive from a working computer and transfer them to the problem PC.Also, if you have any of the following programs already installed on your machine, download the latest version along with updates, then run the scan.================================================================================Download Security Check by screen317 from here or here.Save it to your Desktop.Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.================================================================================Please download and scan with SUPERAntiSpyware FreeDouble-click SUPERAntiSypware.exe and use the default settings for installation.

I unplugged everything and replugged it all in, tried a different power source for the computer, but nothing helps. Help!

hi. hope some one can help my little brother.
acer desktop had probs so got local tech to 'fix' it. he added a new hard drive (with a few annoying and unnecessary programs) and told them to 'make sure they didnt try to update windows' (the guy dint even disable auto updates). anyhow what my bro now has is a pc without full functionality of OS as GAN has obviously recognised discrepancy.
the xp disc that they have authourised key for (bundled with acer) will not reformat hard drives.
i imagine options to be:
- ignore/remove new hard drive and make old drive primary again then reformat with original disc
- purchase new xp disc - is this possible if not some kind of builder of hardware and if so where from and approx cost (vista is more readily available but dont think his system can stand the strain)
any sugestions appreciated (i have already mentioned to him that the $400 he has shelled out to this guy plus the $200 odd he is likely up for to get new xp would actually purchase a new pc these days).

A:xp help for acer desktop

What kind of recovery disk do you have that doesn't format the drive and actually recover the operating system? That would be the first place I'd start. Even if the hard drive was replaced, the recovery disks should work.

hello,
i have been working on a system for a friend of mine and the computer will not post. i get no sound, no beep codes and no video feed from the system. all the fans spin up, all the case lighting comes on and both the Hard disk and DVD Drive work (the DVD Drive even opens and closes).
i have tried swapping the Power Supply, Video card, and Hard disk for known good components to no avail. i do not have a spare CPU or any spare RAM to try this with.
the system has 2 RAM modules however just using one or the other in any combination of slots does not fix the problem. it seems odd to me that both sticks would die at the same time unless the motherboard was the cause. when i remove both sticks i do get the contentious beep error telling me there is no RAM present.
the only components left i can think of is the RAM the CPU and the motherboard. i would just go buy a stick of ram to through in but its not my system to i don't want to go throwing my friends money at a maybe solution.
any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

oh yes i forgot to mention i have already tried resetting the CMOS as well.

A:Acer desktop does not POST

The continuous beeps tell me that the CPU and motherboard are okay, and you are sure that you swapped memory modules always keeping the memory socket nearest the CPU occupied?

This is the first and last time I will ever buy an Acer product. I picked up this Acer desktop at my local Walmart and had no idea just how small the CPU was. It has a notebook type Intel 1.6 CPU that will not even allow me to stream live videos. The worse part of all is that I cannot even upgrade it. It seems to be fused to the motherboard. Otherwise my brother in law could pop in a better CPU plus addition RAM sticks. It is terribly slow also, and sometimes freezes up. I am furious that I cant stream live video, but more upset about the non upgradable motherboard.

We have an Acer that has been giving us problems since we got it a few months ago. Unfortunately, we didn't know because my teenage daughter didn't say anything until recently. We have sent it back to the company but they sent it back and said they saw nothing wrong. I believe it is the operating systems because when the computer crashes, it says that Windows has found something wrong and shuts down. I went to Acer support and they told me to press ALT and F10 to reinstall operating system but nothing happens. Any suggestions?

Hello and welcome to TSG.

Maybe the Function 10 key alone would be enough to kickstart that process but you may well lose all the personal files you have on there.

Alternatively, you could start the system and look in Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Event Viewer for any red marks beside a log which might tell you what causes the shutdowns. Post some details back here and someone will be able to help. Malware may be causing the problems.

I'm helping a friend with his laptop. It's an Acer Aspire... Here's what it does: Click the power button, it goes to the logon screen. You can choose different people's names. When you click on any of the names, it seems like it's going to the desktop, but goes to a completely black screen. The pointer works, but the background is completely black. There are no MS-DOS command boxes, or anything. Just a black screen with the pointer.

Can someone help me with this? I'd be most gracious!

Thanks,

Helping a friend try to make an Acer Aspire M1610 desktop (ca. late 2007) work. OS is 32-bit Vista. The computer belonged to an older gentleman who rarely used it and never updated it, so I started by cleaning out the garbage with CCleaner, then updating Vista thru SP2. During the update processes, it crashed 3-4 time (BSOD). Last thing I installed on it was Google Earth, which crashed it if you attempted to drag the border of the GE window out to make it larger, and sometimes just when GE loaded.

The computer came with the minimum 1GB RAM required to run Vista, and it was VERY slow doing everything, so I suggested replacing one of the 512MB memory DIMMs with a 2GB DIMM, which we did, so we now had 2.5GB of RAM. Some things, especially the bootup, went much faster thereafter, but it was still a slug otherwise.

So, took the drastic step of a destructive recovery using the disks Acer provides. . . and during that process, it also crashed a couple of times. After the recovery, started to download/install the updates. Crashes started again.

Thinking that maybe one of the original 512MB DIMMs might be bad and (of course) it was the one we left in. So swapped it for the one we had pulled. Made no difference, so the memory is not what causing the problem. Checked to make sure all cables were not loose, ran Speccy to check the CPU's temperature (usually 33-35 degrees C) and the drive's temp (44 degrees C), so crashes aren't due to overheating. Software originally ca... Read more

My half a year old acer Predator G3-605 wouldn't boot. When I turn it on, it shows the Acer explore beyond limitsTM logo on the screen for 2 minutes. Below the logo are 5 white dots that spins around to form a circle which I assume it means that it's loading. There's also "Press Del to enter setup"* at the bottom which appears for only 3 seconds. After the 2 minutes, it shows a blue screen that says "Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We're just collecting some error info, and then we'll restart for you" for 2 seconds. Then, the screen turns black and shows no sign of changing. I left it for like an hour but it's still black.
To add on, of the 3 white lights around the On button, only 1 is lit, which is the one on the bottom left of the triangle. Plus, its not even consistent. It keeps blinking. After some time when the screen is black, the light disappears.
I restarted numerous times but it's still the same. I tried unplugging the monitor, power cord and all USB devices and hold the On button for half a minute. When I reconnected the power cord, it's still the same problem.
I'm now out of ideas. Any suggestions?
Edit: So today I tried turning it on and it turned out a little different. The screen displays the Acer explore beyond limitsTM logo for 5 seconds and then it changes to a black screen with the words: "Reboot and select proper Boot Device or Insert Boot Media in selected device and ... Read more
