Charge T480(s) via USB-C and External Monitor via USB-C at the same time?

Q: Charge T480(s) via USB-C and External Monitor via USB-C at the same time?

Hi, I'm a bit confused after checking out the spec sheets of the T480 and T480s. Sometimes I read it has 1 USB-C port and sometimes it seems to have 2... What I would like to do is to:- Charge the T480(s) via USB-C adapter- Connect a USB-C external monitor via USB-C and power the external Monitor via that USB-C "cable" Both at the same time. Is this possible with the T480/T480s without using a dock?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, I have a new t480s with the intel uhd 620 driver, windoze 10.  Most of the time it is docked and an external monitor on displayport. Whenever the monitor powers off the windows all resize to what looks like the size of the 480 screen, so I have to rearrange everything each time.  Anyone find a fix or workaround? I saw posts from intel saying they are ignoring the issue and blaming MS on it. Thanks!

Hello,I have ThinkPad T480 and want to connect Lenovo L2250p external display (it has only DVI and VGA inputs) The display is currently equiped with miniDisplayPort to DVI cable (I used it with older T450)I borrowed USB-C to MiniDP(female) adapter, and try to connect USB-C Thuderbolt 3 port, but the signal didn't went through. iThe adapter must be working because in office I tried to connect the same way also Projector beamer (equipped with MiniDP>HDMI adapter) and signal went through. I thought the USB-C Thunderbolt 3 port is capable of sending DVI signal, or is there too many conversions/adapters connected? Does anyone know what can be the problem? Thanks a lot.

I have a T480 with Windows 10 Pro connected to a Dell U3415W monitor via a DisplayPort to HDMI cable via a 40AJ0135US Ultra Dock (DisplayPort side connected to the docking station, HDMI connected to the monitor).  While using this setup, I will occasionally (sometimes quite frequently) get black-outs in the monitor for a few seconds and then the display returns without issue.  Its extremely annoying and interrupts my work.  Often, restarting the laptop will help resolve it for a while but it always returns in some fashion. I have run the ThinkPad Docking Station FW updater and it said everything is up to date.  Additionally, Lenovo System Update is 100% updated.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have another USB-C charger you can try? Did you try using the USB-C port just in front of the port usually used for charging?

Hi, I bought a HP 10 inch mini laptop(with XP) just a month ago. I have used the laptop with a 21 inch external monitor which is connected to the laptop via a VGA port. It has been OK for a month, but I don't know what I did to it, Today I just can not keep both my laptop screen and the external monitor screen on at the same time, when I connect the external monitor, the laptop screen turns off immediately, if I disconnect the external monitor, then the laptop screen came on. When I lock the computer to leave my area and come back to unlock the computer (after as little as a minute), the external monitors have turned off to standby and it takes5-10 seconds to turn on from standby mode.  I would prefer that my external monitors stay on, while the computer is locked. I have attached a picture of the computer display/power settings.

I bought a T480 with an HDD, but I've since bought a Samsung 960 Evo and installed it into the laptop bay, and I want to clone the HDD to the SSD by booting from the HDD externally, but that doesn't work. I'm using a Sabrent USB 3.0 hard drive adapter kit to power and connect the HDD externally. I looked around for solutions just can't boot the HDD externally, even after going to BIOS and disabling secure boot and changing UEFI/legacy boot option to both.

A:T480 can't boot from external HDD?

Usually one must format the SSD before use, then connect it with a USB adapter to clone the existing HDD to it.

Steps that I employ...

Purchase SSD
Read SSD user guide, download manufacture software
Format SSD using manufacture software
hookup SSD to target computer via USB (notebook) or SATA (desktop)
Clone HDD to SSD via manufacture software / thrid party software
Verify information on SSD matches HDD
Remove HDD, replace with SSD
Boot the computer (notebook) verify installation / cloning works
Store HDD in safe location (as back up device)

This procedure works 99% of the time, but there is always the 1% that I have to work around otherwise.

Good luck.

Hello Lenovo community, I need assistance regarding finding compatible external batteries for the T480. So far I have found 2 compatible T480 external batteries : (1) https://www3.lenovo.com/us/en/accessories-and-monitors/chargers-and-batteries/batteries/BATT-BO-Thin... (2) The second battery is the 72 watts also called "61++" However, after contacting chat support, we found that the battery was not listed. Only the 24 watts were listed. If anyone is searching for the part number for the 72 watts' battery, the number is "4X50M08812" I am posting to save other "T480" buyers' time if they are having an issue finding the 24 and 72 watts' batteries. Lastly, if anyone comes across other  external batteries that are compatible with the T480 that I have missed, please help me us out by adding to this post. Sincerely, T480 Enthusiast

Hi,my laptop monitor starts flickering an a regular basis as soon as I start Visual Studio. Not always and not only with VS but very consistently. I know that there were some unresolved flickering issues last year, so I wanted to check if there are any updates. This is a deal breaker for me. It seems to related to the software (e.g. visual studio) and somehow to the scale setting of windows. With the recommended "200%" I get it very consistently in VS. With "175%" it seems to be better for now.At two occasions my display flickered very heafily in VS and then shut down. I'm considering buying a docking station to go with my T480 but I'm not certain what solution is best for me.I want to connect two monitors, one runs [email protected] (VGA or DVI) and the other [email protected] (VGA or HDMI). Initially I was considering the 'ThinkPad USB-C-dockingstation (40A90090EU)' and use the VGA plus one of the DP ports with an adapter. However, when I was reading the display configuration options for this dock I came to the conclusion that this does not seem to be possible. (https://support.lenovo.com/nl/en/solutions/pd029622#USB-C%20dock) Browsing through the forum the second best option appears to be the 'ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock (40AC, 40AC0135XX)'. The advantage is that it supports higher resolutions and direct HDMI connectivity. What I read from the display configuration options my configuration should not be an issue. (https://support.lenovo.com/nl/en/solutions/pd029622#thunderbolt)However, I cannot confirm that this dock is compatible with a T480. I think it should be as the T480 manual lists one of the USB-C connectors on the left as Thunderbolt-3 compatible. Does anyone have experience with this combination of hardware or otherwise can someone confirm this solution is going to work? The docks are just to expensive for just giving it a try in my opinion.

Hey guys,

I need your help, i bought a genuine battery for my laptop Toshiba Satellite A500, but it doesn't say much information on the manual so I want to know how long I need to charge up the battery for the first time?

Do I need to put the battery on my laptop and switch on the adapter to charge it up without switch the laptop on?

When I am using the laptop, do you know what is the per cent when the battery get low that I need to charge it up?

Is it ok to charge the battery when the battery goes to near 10% or more when I'm using the laptop?

And do I have to charge the battery 4 times in one day?

I need to be careful as I don't want to damage the laptop battery that wont last to a year if i am not being careful.

Thanks in advance

I have an HP laptop and I have been running it with dual monitors. I finally decided to upgrade to Windows 7 and after I installed it I noticed that the built in monitor of my laptop looked strange and when I opened the display settings to change the screen resolution and set the external monitor as a separate monitor rather than a mirror I noticed that only one monitor was detected and it was the external one (Generic non-pnp monitor on standard VGA graphics adapter) and the built in monitor does NOT show up at all.

I've tried the detection button, in hopes that the computer would read the built in monitor and I could fix the problem. This did not help. I tried unplugging/replugging the external monitor to no avail. I tried restarting without the external monitor plugged in and it STILL reads the built in monitor as if it is the external one. Is there anyway to fix this? I have not tried re-installing the OS, not yet anyways.

Any suggestions ?

I am using a 22" screen for my primary screen and the laptop lid open for a secondary screen. The main screens resolution is 1680x1050, I can set it to anything I want and it's always using the full screen. The laptop screen on the other hand will only use the full screen if it's at 1400x1050 resolution (max for that screen, IBM Thinkpad T43). With the large 22" screen I have no trouble reading the screen at high resolutions, the screen is huge, with the little 14" screen though I have to strain to read the screen at 1400x1050.

The problem is when I set the laptop screen to anything lower than 1400x1050, it uses less of the screen. Preferrably I want it at 1280x1024 or 1024x768 (I dont know which I want yet as I can't see the freaking screen at that resolution). At 1280x1024 for instance the useable screen is just a box in the middle, so the "1280x1024" is still barely readable for me cause it's shrunk from full screen, plus it's just annoying only using a portion of the screen.

I have played with the ATI Control Center, the Thinkpad display settings and windows display settings and just cannot get this thing to go full screen at lower resolutions when docked and using the external monitor.

Anyway to resolve this?

Hi !

I could not find any data on the amount of charge time for a brand new laptop. Do i charge it overnight or should I just see when the battery gets full.

What is the normal time for a full charge for a six cell battery ?

A:Samsung laptop RV 411how long to charge the first time.

First, check your manual or check applications and control panel.
Some laptops have a calibration utility that needs to be run first to
make sure it recognizes the full capacity of the battery.
Other than that, you should just be able to plug it in and let it charge.
Overnight would be fine as it automatically adjusts the charge rate.
When the laptop is on,there should be a battery charge indicator in
the taskbar notification area.

Fixed; was a driver issue. Problem seems exclusive to a Dell u2415 on DP port 1 only of the dock or to the laptop's DP port (at least for the couple monitors I tried). It's possible it could affect other monitors. My starting point: 9.18.13.4535 / 9.17.10.2843 (Nvidia /  Intel) The latest driver from Lenovo is 9.18.13.4535 / 8.15.10.2725. I'm not sure how i have a slightly newer Intel, but that's what it was. I couldn't install the Lenovo driver. I also couldn't install a newer driver from Intel (10.18.10.4276). In both cases Windows or the Intel installer stopped me saying the mfr provided the drivers and that the installed version was up to date. I worked around by first rolling back the Intel driver. The manual (.zip) install of the latest intel driver worked. This immediately fixed the Dell u2415 on DP port 1 and laptop's built-in DP port.

Windows 10 laptop. I connect it to an external monitor and use hdmi cable. My external monitor is my main monitor. I use the laptop monitor as the secondary monitor. I extend the display.

My desktop icons are always on my external monitor desktop. I had moved the hdmi cable connected to my laptop i believe which caused all my icons from my external monitor to go on the laptop monitor. Also there is even spacing on all of the icons. Has anyone had this happened? I then clicked sort and then it rearranged so there is no spacing etc. However, i then noticed hey why are my icons on my laptop monitor and not my external monitor.

Does anyone know why this happened? When i open chrome and other programs, it does open up on my external monitor though which is my primary monitor. I believe i can just drag each of the icons on my desktop on my laptop screen to my external monitor. So just do this and that fixes the issue right? Or is there a way to have all the icons just move to the external monitor. The reason i ask this is in case the icons just suddenly move to the laptop screen again.
