How to move emails from Windows Vista/Windows Mail to Windows 7/Outlook 2013 on a dif

Q: How to move emails from Windows Vista/Windows Mail to Windows 7/Outlook 2013 on a dif

I cannot figure out how to get all of my email stores moved from my old PC (Windows Vista/Windows Mail) to my new PC (Windows 7/Outlook 2013). Is there a way to successfully do this or do I need to give up?? When trying to use the export function for messages in windows mail it comes up with an error message to say 'The export could not be performed. An error accured while initializing MAPI.' All my email accounts are POP3. I did find the email stores and transfered them manually to the new PC but I opened them on the new PC in outlook then only a small fraction of emails was there and they were all jumbled up and my folder structure did not transfer. Can this transfer be done or not? Hope to get some useful answer. Cheers, Torsten.

Preferred Solution: How to move emails from Windows Vista/Windows Mail to Windows 7/Outlook 2013 on a dif

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Can this be done? I saved them to an external hard drive with the old xp computer, which I still have, and they are still in the old computer. They were saved as DBX files. Any program I try to use to open them from the external drive when connected to the Vista computer shows mostly gibberish. While I'm at it, can address book lists be transferred from one to the other computer? Thanks

I can't find ant reference to anyone having this problem anywhere.
Windows 8.1
Office Pro 2013
Windows Defender
Sometimes but not always when Outlook performs a Send operation, it reports mutiple messages when it shoudn't be.
Manual Send/Recieve only far as i know.
For instance, if i create one email, and hit send, the progress bar at the bottom says sending message 10 of 10.
It does not do this every time, that i know. I haven't found a trigger or rhyme or reason, i can't force it to happen.
And the "extra" number isnt always an extra 9, or a factor of 10 of the messages to be sent, it seems to vary, but i haven't been able to "see/catch" it enough times to guanatee that statement.
My Outlook checks 15 different email addresses, I do know it's not "times 15" as through it was one for each address.
Seems to happen only on Send. Recieve always recives the same number it should.
it is not the "messages getting stuck in the outbox" problem, resulting in mutiple Sends. The messages pass directly out.
AdwCleaner, Malwarebytes both "regular" and anti-rootkit find nothing.
Computer approx. 3 months old, no Known infections or ones that have been removed.

I have an old desktop PC (circa 2002) running XP

On that PC, I have been using Office Professional Plus 2010 & Outlook to access my email account (POP)

I just purchased a Win8 laptop. Since the Win8 Mail app will not work with POP email accounts, my email/internet access provider (Comcast) recommended using Windows Live Mail (I'm using 2012 version). This works fine for new emails. However, I have not been able to find a way to "move" the historical emails from my Outlook 2010 (PC) to WinMailLive (laptop.)

Exporting the emails from Outlook 2010 creates a .PST file which is not recognized by WinMailLive.

I tried using MailStore, but it will only archive email from the Inbox for POP accounts.

Anyone know of a way to move emails from Outlook 2010 to WNL 2012, that is easier than forwarding all the historical emails to myself from the Outlook PC & then reorganize them in WML on the laptop?

Thanks - mg

Importing mail from Outlook to Windows Live Mail Solved - Windows 7 Help Forums

but i believe you have to have Outlook on the new machine to do this

Is the xp still operatable? if yes
You can install Windows Live Mail onto the xp machine
then move everything there
once it is moved you can use my attachement to backup windows live mail
then on a flash drive you can take the folders it creates and put them into windows live mail on the windows 8 computer
this works with windows live mail 2012 also
Once you have it all backed up you can do the same thing only pick Import instead of backup and point to the backup of WLM

I am trying to export messages from Windows Live Mail to Outlook 2013.
[Note: I exported from Windows Mail (Vista) to Windows Live Mail (Windows 8); I still have my old Vista machine with all my emails in Windows Mail]

I do...

Open Microsoft Outlook.
Open Windows Live Mail.
In the Windows Live Mail window, click the File button and select Exportand then select Email messages.
Select Microsoft Exchange as the format and then click Next.
You will see a message that all email will be exported to Microsoft Outlook or Microsoft Exchange, click Ok to continue.
This is where nothing happens except blink of the screen when I hit "Ok" it just goes back to step 4 where the dialog box pops up to select Microsoft Exchange.

It exports nicely to Microsoft Windows Live Mail but when do Microsoft Exchange it does not even go to step to select All messages, etc

What am I dong wrong and/or is there easier method to get all my email messages to Outlook 2013 please note the Note at top of page of still have emails on Vista machine

Any suggestion - even to purchase a program to do this for me will be a help. As did the export from Windows Mail to Windows Live Mail before - redid it as - when moved my imported folder inbox messages to an folder just under imported folder (as had like 6 for some reason (all in tree form as in subfolders) all me messages subjects remained the same however the message itself all read the same thing - strange I know.

Now that Windows Live Mail 2012 is now on death row, I've successfully added my three Hotmail accounts to my Outlook 2013 client.

When one opens WLM, an indicator appears beside each account to show the number of new emails for the particular account.

This doesn't appear to happen in Outlook 2013 - anyone know how this can be done - it would save having to open each account in turn to see if emails are present.

After uninstalling Office 2010, I downloaded and installed Office 2013 from Microsoftonline.com. The install went smoothly. But after the install was complete I tried to setup an mail account - using the Mail applet in control panel. But got the following popup error " Rundll32.exe - Application error. The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000be) Click ok to close the application." I therefore cannot add an email account as this has to be done through the applet. I am running Windows7 64bit. I have tried both Office 2013(32bit) and Office 2013(64bit) but get the same result. I have used the "Fixit tool " from Microsoft to uninstall and re-install with no luck. I have googled the error and have had no luck in finding a solution. Has anybody experienced this issue and been able to resolve it?
Any help much appreciated. Thanks

I recently put a coply of MS Office 2013 onto a friends computer for them and set up outlook and I cannot get it to export my email from Windows live mail. I have Outlook set as the default mail client and have exhausted the how to on the microsoft help site (used instructions from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/980534 ) nothing worked.

I keep getting an error message stating that MAPI isn't setup properly and that I have to set outlook to be the default mail client before it will complete. I have done this and still keep getting the same message. I have also tried exporting the messages in their native formal *.fol but Outlook won't read them. (why MS insists on not building easy portability between its own programs in areas like this is beyond my scope of comprehension or why it cares if I have Outlook installed on that particiular machine or not what if a user wants to put the messages onto another machine that doesn't have live mail on it only Outlook????)

Griping aside I either need a program that can convert the exported *.fol files into a readable *.pst file or compatible format or troubleshoot why live mail isn't seeing that "yes in fact I do have Outlook installed and yes it is set as the default mail client both from Outlook itself and from checking the default program list, I set every file type I could see as default to Outlook and still nothing.

Thanks for your help you guys have never let me down.

A:How can I import Apple Mail files in windows Outlook 2013 ?

Apple mail and outlook use different formats, hence you cannot use the outlook import/export tool to import apple mail files. Outlook wont recognize apple mail and vice-versa. You need to use a third party converter. There are a LOT of tools out there which you can use. Depending on the urgency and importance, whether its a work or home email account, you can either use a paid tool or free tool. Needless to mention, paid tools will be more robust sand have the option of support in case you face hiccups.
A free tool that you can try: http://psttombox.blogspot.in/
A paid tool: http://applemailtopst.com/download-free-trial-applemail-to-pst-converter/
ALWAYS scan any files that you download from the internet with a good antivirus before installing on your computer.

Have a Vostro 1500 with Windows XP. Just installed Windows Live Mail, but the transfer of my WAB to Windows Live Mail, following their directions, did not work properly. It transferred only part of my book, and shows many duplicates (some with same name but different e-mail address).
Tried transferring a second time, and now have an incorrect book of over 1,000 addresses.

I want to delete this incorrect book (without having to delete each address one at a time...does not have a file delete option that I can see), and properly transfer the full book. I can create a new address book file if needed. Any help would be appreciated.

I was using a Windows XP desktop and Outlook Express 6 exclusively for my emails. It was set up to do automatic nightly backups of all messages by copying the following folder:

C:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{GUID}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

Yesterday the hard drive on that XP machine crashed and now I'm trying to set up a new desktop that is running Windows 10 pro.
My main goal is to set up a mail program that will allow to import all of my emails from Outlook Express that also works in a similar fashion. (In other words that Metro mail app that Windows 10 has would not work!)
So I downloaded Windows Live Mail 2012 and went to File -> Import -> Messages -> Outlook Express 6 and specified a copy of the folder above.
Unfortunately when the importing process was done, first of all the inbox was empty. Eventually I was able to find it buried in a storage folder. Well, inconvenient, but OK. But then when I pulled it up, I could not recognize my messages. It seemed like a big chunk of them was missing.
Unfortunately I don't have access to the Outlook Express on a computer that crashed. Instead I had an old copy in a VM that was done back in Sept. 2015. So I did the same exporting process just to test. Here's how the inbox looks like in Outlook Express:

And here's how it looks when I import it into WLM:

As you see a bunch of messages are missing and the inbox itself looks totally different.

I had to restore my system yesterday and ever since then, my email is not working properly. When I first open the app, it pulls the email from the server and I can read them. However, any subsequent attempts for it to go out and retrieve email result in the following error message:

"Some errors occurred while processing the requested tasks. Please review the list of errors below for more details." -- but there is nothing in the details box.

If I close the Windows Mail app and re-open it, it will retrieve the email. But I have to keep closing and re-opening it for it to work.

I did try to upgrade to Windows Live but that brought on a whole slew of other issues so I gave up on that.

I have a fun problem here. (Note I am being srcastic ).

I recently updated my motherboard, CPU, Ram, and graphics card and swapped over my old hardware to make a new system. I can do upgrades for the board up, but I had Frys do it since I purchased the items there. Needless to say, they have not done a good job.

They suggested I purchase a new Hard Drive so the install of Vista could go there and not touch my other two Hard Drives. I did this and when I finally got the system up and running. I am unable to restore my old mail. Vista and the new Mail and Outlook are on the C: Drive. The old install of Vista was on another drive, and I have been able to find the Windows Mail Folder, but have not been able to restore my old e-mails. The same is true for Outlook. I am missing most of my media contacts in the last 6 months as my ISP wiped all the old sent folders today leaving me with no way to follow up on e-mails from the last day much less the last 6 months.

Thank you,

I opened Outlook on my home pc (Windows 10) yesterday (4 Jan) for the first time since 31 December. An on-screen message said that 200+ messages were downloading. This is more than I would expect to have. When that process had finished I expected the messages to appear in my inbox as normal but none did. (There was no error message on Outlook.) I then checked my email provider's webmail and there were about fifty new messages in the inbox. These have still not appeared in my Outlook inbox. This has happened on one previous occasion, which was after a substantial gap in which a large number of messages could have built up.
I have checked Microsoft Support and installed OffCAT, which failed to find any fault related to the downloading of emails or their appearance in the Outlook inbox. Messages received by the server since I opened Outlook yesterday have been downloaded by Outlook. I would be most grateful for any suggestions as to what might be going on and what could be done about it.

I am trying to resolve an issue with Windows Live Mail for someone who hase a large number of emails that they need to keep, and WLM is complaining that the mail box is full. I assumed that they would be able to archive (in a similar way that Outlook could), but I see from earlier threads that this seems not to be the case. Is this still so?

If there is a limit (practical or otherwise) on the the number of mails that WLM can cope with, I cannot believe that Microsoft did not provide a means of dealing with this automatically, short of manually moving them!! Has anyone got any suggestions on how to do this automatically, based on date (or some such mechanism)?

MS and their mail systems are giving me grief. I have a Vista 32 PC using "Windows Mail" and want to transfer email folders (lots) and messages to Windows 7 using Windows Live Mail 2011.

Note: Windows Mail was a replacement for Outlook express on Vista.
Windows Live Mail 2011 is a replacement for Windows Mail on Windows 7.

I tried a couple of things.

1) Basic Export and ImportI exported relavent files: Account info, Contacts and all the messages to a folder (in Windows Mail format) on old computer and used the old "Addias" transfer - copied folder to stick and RAN it over to the new computer.
- Imported (using the Windows Mail format) the Account info successfully,
- imported the Contact info successfully.
- Import Messages - appeared at first to be successful

Issue: Message folders appear to be renamed and some folder names have been truncated, not all folders appear to be there. (Looks like "long Name folders greater that 8 characters get truncated)

2) Tried the "Easy transfer mechanism (Vista and Win7 transfer utility) - but couldn't get the new computer to see the Vista even though I could see them on the network. I thought that this would transfer the folder names correctly.
I'm about to try a time consuming effort of coping folder by folder (export/Import)
What I am more concerned about is that the individaul messages may have the same issue Ie not all coming accross and subject names being lost.

I get a little nauseous just thinking about Windows Live Mail 2011, much less expending effort to use it, but I would try installing it on the Vista and see if it has the option right up front of importing stuff from Windows Mail. If it does, and happens to work correctly, then all you would have to do is find its files and copy them over.

By the way, are you putting on airs with "Addias" transfer? We plebeians just used "sneaker net."

A:Dell Vista Windows Mail/Outlook problem

Read other 1 answers

Good Afternoon,

I hope someone can help; I'm at wit's end.

I'm using a 2 year old Dell Desktop Dimension E520 computer with Windows Vista Home Premium.

A few days ago, Windows Mail all of the sudden stopped working. I could not open it. I rec'd an error message saying something to the effect that Windows could not find C:\programfiles\windows mail\winmail.exe. There was another message but I didn't write it down. I did all of the usual things: restarted my computer, turned it off for awhile and turned it back on, etc. with no luck. I ended up installing Windows Live Mail so at least I have access. Does anyone know how I can get my regular Windows Mail program back?

My next problem is with MS Office- Outlook (2007 Small Business Version). Because I was having so many problems with Windows Mail I thought that I'd simply use the Outlook instead. Turns out that doesn't work either! Some times it tells me it hadn't shut down correctly the last time and asks if I should start in safe mode....which it still doesn't work. Other times it just simply stops working ...even before it gets started. And now I get another message asking me if I want to add an Outlook connector account...and no matter which answer I choose it does nothing. I tried restarting...repairing...and even uninstalling/reinstalling MS Office and nothing works.

Any ideas?

Thanks !

I have hotmail on the mail tile but I would also like to have windows live mail there too. Does anyone know how to do this ?

A:Move windows live mail to the mail tile.

Do you mean a live.com account? I would assume that you could just add it the same way as the hotmail.com account, but I don't have one so do not know for sure.

I do NOT have access to Outlook Express 6 via the "Normal" methodology. My main PC's motherboard burned out and I resorted to pulling the HDD out of the system and making it an External HDD. This is the only way that I was able to save/access Outlook Express 6's .dbx email files.

So, I DO have full access to the old .dbx files from the old system.

Right after my old PC bit the dust, I went out and purchased a brand new laptop here that is running Vista Home Premium which of course uses Windows Mail as the Email program and uses .eml for the file extention.

I was able to resetup all my Email accounts manually as well as Import my old Outlook Express 6's Contact List files (.wab) format.

The problem I am having is getting the old Outlook Express .dbx folders and files to Import into Windows Mail. I KNOW the .dbx files are NOT compatible with WM .eml format.

I need to know HOW to convert the .dbx files to the .eml format so I can then Import them into Vista's Windows Mail.

Can someone PLEASE help me!

I would be forever grateful!

Hi Katmandu

You have All the .dbx files including the Folders.dbx file?

If so, you should be good to go.

Copy the .dbx files to a folder on the Desktop.
Start Windows Mail:
File > Import > Messages
Select: Microsoft Outlook Express 6
Click: Next
Select: Import from an OE6 store directory
Click: OK

Click: Browse and Browse to the folder on the Desktop and select the folder containing the .dbx files. **Note** when I select my folder, containing .dbx files, it appears to be empty, continue on.
Click the: Select Folder button.
Verify in the Windows Mail Import window that the path to the folder on the Desktop is correct, Windows Mail has a habit of duplicating the folder in the directory path.
If this happens click the Browse button again and this time Only click the Select Folder button.

Verify the path to the folder containing the .dbx files is now correct.

Click: Next > Next
The Import should begin, an Import Complete message will appear when the Import successfully completes.
Click: Finish

In Windows Mail there should be a folder labled Imported Folder this should contain all the imported messages. You can move your messages to other folders if so desired.

Let us know if that works for you or not.
