I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, I have a 3 year old (ish) T540p which all of a sudden is giving me this message when the ac power adapter is plugged in.  I have two adapters as I have the docking station also which I normally use and neither of these adapters are working.  I have read some posts on here and tried all of the suggested actions to rectify this but none seem to be working for some reason. Funnily enough in the Lenovo Vantage application I tried to do the battery gauge reset and as soon as i set that off the laptop started to charge and got up to 100%, i left it for a good couple of hours and didn't seem to move on to the next part in the cycle which is to drain the battery so I cancelled it.  I thought that the fact that it had started to charge might have reset something but alas I'm back in the same position where I'm getting the plugged in but not charging message. I've recently updated to Windows 10 but the chargers have worked fine since, now for some reason they are not. Can anybody give me any help troubleshooting to try and sort the problem out.  Is it likely to be the battery which needs replacing or is there someting else that it could be perhaps? Thanks.

A:T540p Thinkpad plugged in but not charging

What about your battery threshold settings? When you're doing battery calibration (gauge reset), it's a common thing that your inducator stucks at some percentage of charging and discharging. I suggest you to turn off any threshold you set, turn off the machine, turn it on with no battery, then turn it off and re-set the battery. What about discharging? Is it normal? Try to discharge it to below 50% and then plug the charger.

I had put my laptop in my bag thinking it was on sleep, but it wasn't. When I pulled it up several hours later, it was a little warm and the fan was running but the screen was black. I turned it off on the power button and tried to turn it on again. The keyboard light appeared and the fan started, but only black screen, and the computer gave 4x4 beeps. Then nothing. Tried to turn on and off again and again with the same result. Forth time or so the beeping stopped. Tried to connect to an external display but no signal was passed so it wasn't "just" the laptop. Tried to remove power cable and battery and hold down the power button for 30 secs, which some have reported to solve similar problems. Tried this multiple times with no luck. Then I screwed free the lid inot the RAM and Harddrive on hte back of the laptop. I took my two RAM blocks out and put them back in. I took my Harddrive out and put it back in. After this the computer started normally. I am so relieved and wanted to pass this on so it might help others with a similar problem.

I had a thinkpad t540p model 20be004eus upgraded to windows 10. It seems that my laptop has wwan device (I can insert a sim card in the battery bay), however, I cannot get my laptop reconized the wwan. I already try these following: - Check spec of my wwan device noted here which it turned out to be EM7355- Downloaded EM7355 package from here.- Install the software, but it only add Sierra location sensor- Tried to add device manual and use source from the aboved download.- Windows did add the device which error 10, I then can update the device to newest version.- After that a network adaptor appeared on windows network, but always in disabled status (can NOT enable) Do any body know how to deal with this problem?

HiAre you sure laptop has the wwan card em7355 installed? Sim card reader presence doesn't mean laptop has built-in wwan card and even wwan antennas. What's the laptop model code, MTM (Machine-Type-Model)? Is there unknown device in the Device Manager? What description does the device with error 10 have? The same question for network adapter.Note, em7355 doesn't have drivers for win10. The only chance wodem could work is to use OS drivers for modem in the MBIM mode. What's the network type (3G, LTE) and mobile broadband operator name are you trying to connect?

I bought a ThinkPad 540p that comes with preloaded Windows 8.1. As I want to dual boot the machine I tried to select the Legacy Boot option in the BIOS/Startup tab, but I can't do anything as the option UEFI/Legacy Book is greyed out and locked in "UEFI Only". Below it there is an option called: -CSM Support that is also greyed out and selected as [No]. (below  these options there is a little note with an asterisk saying "Unselectable for Secure Boot"). How can I enable the UEFI/Legacy Boot option again in order to dual boot the computer? I want to be able to boot from USB or from the CD Drive.   Thank you very much for helping me out!

What does this error mean? I ran the Lenovo Diagnostics and this was the only fail. I've been getting frequent restarts, with critical errors in the events log for "Kernel-Power" and a lot of BugCheck code 59. Given the power reference, can I assume it's related? My 5 year old T540p Windows 10 Pro laptop is always plugged into a dock, I rarely take it anywhere. Is my battery failing? Something else?

So far the restarts have been after I've been away from the machine for an extended time, overnight or several hours. I get no BSODs, but there are minidumps. I have a blue screen viewer for the logs but don't know what to look for. I'm a recently retired IT professional, but this is WAY out of my area of expertise

I just ran a Lenovo Diagnostics just for the battery on my T540P windows 10 Pro machine--it failed. This is what I got: Date Run: 2018-01-15Final Result Code: W1WZXEGZZ-U5M7M1WBA009001-WN7V4I Where can I find an explanation of these result codes? The machine is about 5 years old now, and long story short, I think the battery may be failing. It's virtually always in the plugged in dock, but I dunno if that matters I'm guessing I might need a new battery, darn it. TIA elaine

Can someone help me with this problem? So I just received my brand new Dell Inspiron 15 3000 and the battery is not charging. It says it's "Plugged In, Charging" but it never goes up and stays at 0%. At first I thought I just need to plug it in for several hours but it's been 5 hours now and still the battery stays at 0%. I tried running the BIOS Diagnostics just to see if there are problems and there's none. The battery status says everything is running normally and the Battery State says it's Idle. I tried draining the flea power several times, removing and reattaching the battery, but to no avail. I'm getting really frustrated and I'm really close to throwing this laptop back to Dell.
I read somewhere that I have to update the BIOS but it won't update unless the battery is charged at least 10%. Someone also suggested that Windows 8.1 is causing the problem. I haven't even started using this laptop and it's already giving me a *** ton of problems. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks guys! :)

The battery status toggles between not charging, not used, and unauthorized battery after it was calibrated using one key. Before that, the battery was working perfectly, lasting close to 5 hours. Now the laptop shuts off when unplugged and the battery status is constantly changing. I've had this laptop for approximately a year now and it was unused and left in an unopened box for the first 8 months.

Hey @EnigmaDimirti, Welcome to the forums. I'm here to help. I would strongly suggest Testing and Calibrating the Battery. Should that not solve the issue, I would suggest calling in for support to see about replacing the battery, as it should not be displaying "no battery is pluged in" when you run a battery check. Please use the following http://www.hp.com/contacthp and create a case for your issue and contact HP. If you live outside the US/Canada, please click the link below to get the contact information for your region.http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-phone-assist.html If this helps, please hit that Thumbs Up, and Accept as Solution. Cheers,TechSurge.

A:Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 docking station does not charge Thinkpad P51 battery.

Everbody's p51 would be the same.  The thunderbolt port won't work as a charging port.  The thunderbolt specs specify 100w max.  That's not enough.  Your thunderbolt port is not for charging.  To charge via the dock, you need a workstation dock, not a thunderbolt dock.  A thinderbolt dock can charge things like an x1 carbon (5th gen) or x1 yoga (2nd gen)

Battery 2 is not being used but it is not charging either and it is very very slowly discharging (about 3% over the last few days). If I plug the Thinkpad into its normal power supply outside of the dock both batteries charge (one at a time). Is this normal behavior or is there something wrong with my dock?

A:Battery Status Unknown

First of all, shutdown the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter unplugged, remove the battery, and then hold down the Power button for a full minute. Now, plug in the AC Adapter without the battery inserted, start the notebook, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager, expand the entry for Batteries, right click on and the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery and select Uninstall - do not uninstall anything else here.  When the uninstall is complete, shut the PC down, unplug the AC Adapter, re-insert the battery and then start the PC on just the battery.  Windows will automatically reinstall the driver - leave Windows running for a few minutes. Shutdown the PC again.  Now plug in the AC Adapter ( with the battery still inserted ) and start the notebook. Next, download, install and run the latest version of the HP Battery Check Utility, on the link below. ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp49001-49500/sp49129.exe (PLEASE NOTE THIS IS FROM A DIFFERENT QUESTION) Hope this can help you as its simular to the one you have.

How does one do this in Windows XP?

A:Battery status indicator in Win XP

Don't think you will find it as part of XP.

Its more likely to be part of the battery monitor driver peculiar to the Compaq, which added the "feature" to the icon.

If Gateway don't provide it, you may not be able to have it.

You did not mention if you purchased a new battery that was not an OEM for the laptop. Some manufacturers like Dell have special circuits in the battery that make it put a battery level up and the replacement battery does not have that circuitry.

Excellent (new), Normal (charges to around 90% or more), Moderate (charges to around 80%), Poor (charges, but only to around 50%), and Battery needs to be replaced (will not charge), in that order.  This is only from lots of experience at a very lage company with thousands of Dell laptops, not because I found this documented anywhere (why??).

I know if I transfer over to the desktop version of the home screen I can find out the percent of battery power remaining by placing the cursor over the little battery icon in the lower right of the task bar. But on the native 8.1 Start (the one with the metro tiles) screen I see no way to easily check remaining battery power. I searched the Windows Store for an app that would do this and there are none that I can find. Odd because the Android Play Store has dozens of apps that do this. Can anyone tell me if there is an easy way to check battery power from the Start screen?
Help!!!

Hello,

Is it possible to have battery status in text format on lock screen in addition to (or instead of) the basic icon, which is a very crude gauge?

If not, is there a 3rd party app which can display detailed battery information on the lock screen?

Thanks

The one part remaining that requires attention on this 'brought back to life' machine is the battery. The battery life is not good from what I remember. I think I purchased this second battery directly from Lenovo years ago. It's the longer life version that sticks out about a 1/2" from the back. When I'm ready to purchase, I'll pull the battery to determine if it's a 6 or 9 cell. 2 questions: 1. Is there a reliable Win10 utility that can gauge realistically how much time a fully charged battery can run for? 2. How do you determine a good buy for a *good battery? I've noticed TechFuel frequently?

I have most of the laptop broke down still. I did get it running again last night as a result of me incorrectly using the multimeter and short circuiting the power supply connector . It booted up and ran fine and I even tried turning it off and on again several times. I thought it might be a heat issue. I turned it off and tried to turn it on this morning and it will not power up. Same symptoms as before. no battery, only power connected, green light comes on, plug in the battery, battery light goes green, try to turn it on and th... Welcome to the forum!

Your best bet would indeed be a new system board. Any single one from a non-widescreen T60/p will work.

I've got dozens of them available - send me a PM if you're interested.

Good luck.

I have successfully restarted my unit with the "hard set" method, with the battery NOT installed. I have yet to restart the computer with the battery installed. My question is: How do I know if the battery is faulty? This unit is less than 6 months old. Please advise.

A:Battery Status after a "hard reset"

Please explain exactly what you mean by "I have yet to restart the computer with the battery installed."   Use the UEFI diagnostics to test the battery. Press the power button and then start tapping the F2 key. Choose Components and then choose battery. Run the test. In the first year of ownership, the battery is covered under warranty for replacement if it fails.
