Exchange email won't work!

Very frustrating. I have two email accounts (Google email) working great. But, can't get my work email to operate. I know I have all the addresses, etc. correct. I'm a very experienced user. I set it up, no problem, at both iPad and iPhone. I used the
same exact settings, no dice.

1. When I used the Outlook Exchange option, did not connect at all
2. I was able to use IMAP and successfully downloaded emails, but can not send - keeps getting stuck in Outbox

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I use Outlook 2010. I was using the Hotmail Connector with my MS mail account (at outlook.com) to synch contacts but this is no longer supported. I've now added my MS account using the new account wizard which configures a MS Exchange account for my MS mail account and does synch contacts.

However, when the account is configured as an Exchange account, my user name appears in the format outlook_{text string}@outlook.com. This name name appears in the email sent address from the account but it doesn't work as a legit email address since the email is returned to sender. My correct email address does send and receive emails from the Exchange configured account.

I want to change my user name to the correct email address for my account but I can't change this from Outlook or the Mail option under Control Panel.

How do you configure an Exchange account to send out the correct reply email address?

I have searched this forum and google but cannot see a solution to my problem.

I am trying to set my home Outlook 2007 to my works MS exchage server.

I can connect to it through IE with an https connection which is ok but a bit limited.

When I set Outlook to autodiscover settings for my work mail everything runs smoothly to start. It finds the settings confirms if i wish to accept the security certificate but the prob starts when it asks for my username and password as it keeps automatically putting my PC's hostname before my username. I have tried removing the hostname but this doesnt seem an option as the PC has to be called something. I though I would be sneaky by giving the PC the works username but still no joy.

Any suggestions?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have got outlook 2010 initially my work email was on POP3/IMAP (I was using IMAP) and outlook Suggested Contacts was working fine no problem ,,,,means when I try to type any address in To or CC fields automatically gets completed.

Then my company change email accounts for all personnel to from POP3/IMAP to Exchange, I set up a new profile on my outlook 2010 to receive email from the exchange, and IMAP is not working any more.

How can I make those Suggested Contacts that were working with IMAP before to work with Exchange email ?

I have a user w/ a Dell Latitude laptop. Anyone who logs into the device is unable to access our Exchange server through Outlook OR the OWA. Several other internet sites give a "please enable TLS 1.0/1.1/1.2" warning. These sites all work properly
in Chrome.
I have tried refreshing the PC. Worked at first, then a couple hours later resumed the same behavior.
Issue persists both on internal wifi and via cable connection. 
The employee who uses the device is able to access Exchange from other devices. It seems to be an issue with this one device, even after the OS was reinstalled. No one who logs into it can access Exchange or other internet HTTPS resources.
I did recently limit the SSL/TLS ciphers clients are allowed to use per this bulletin: https://technet.microsoft.com/library/security/ms15-031. However, this applied to all domain computers & no other devices are having this issue.
I'd appreciate any ideas anyone could throw out.

I REALLY hope someone can help me. I cannot view any of my emails in Outlook Express. I need to see some of these things for my job. I have contacted RoadRunner about this and they checked some things and said it is not a problem on their end. They did direct me to a Microsoft web page that basically told me all I needed to do was empty my temporary folder and temporary internet files. This did not work.

I have NAV and my system is clean. I did receive some virus yesterday in my email that was quarantened and deleted. I am constantly getting emails from strangers that are being blocked because of viruses in them. So are a lot of people I know. I am at a loss of what to try next. I do have Spybot and run that constantly. Here is my hijack this log in case that shows anything. Does anyone have any ideas? I really need to get to work.

Hello to all. I know sure the problem I'm about to describe has been discussed on this forum because I've been researching possible solutions tonight for over 2 hrs without success. In short, have a new computer with Vista Home Premium which seemed to be working fine. Only had this rig a couple days so how much could go wrong right? WRONG! All seemed well until I tried to send a link by email...... and nothing happened. So I tried again with same results. I ended up trying to open Outlook but it wouldn't respond either but WOULD work fine again if I restarted the computer. From my research on this forum and others I believe Vista for some reason Vista is refusing to recognize Outook2007 as my default email client, EVEN THOUGH I HAVE REPEATEDLY GONE INTO 'SET PROGRAM ACCESS AND COMPUTER DEFAULTS' AND MADE BOTH IE7 AND MS OFFICE 2007 DEFAULT PROGRAMS. I HAVE ALSO REPEATEDLY GONE INTO 'SET YOUR DEFAULT PROGRAMS' AND MADE IE7 AND MS OUTLOOK 2007 DEFAULT PROGRAMS THERE AS WELL, MAKING SURE EACH PROGRAM ALSO HAD ALL OF ITS DEFAULTS CHECKED. I also went into IE7 internet options and set up both IE7 and Outlook 2007 as default programs there as well and even went in under the 'advanced' tab and reset IE settings, losing some cookies in the process. NONE OF THIS HAS HELPED! I'm stumped and frustrated. I suspect there's a problem with the registry but just a guess. I could sure use some help with this! Thanks in advance!

You need your e-mail address, password, POP3 and SMTP server settings for your Virgin e-mail account.
That information needs to be entered into Outlook before it can Send and Receive your messages.
If you do not know your ISP's POP and SMTP server settings you should be able to login to your online e-mail account and locate the server settings.

As the title says, I use Microsoft Outlook '07 to access my Roadrunner and AOL POP accounts. If I send email from either account to one particular friend who uses windstream.net, and accesses his mail through Windstream's web mail page, it disappears without any trace that I can find. Not only doesn't he receive my newly composed messages, but he does not receive my direct replies either. That rules out a misspell. There is no evidence other contacts are not receiving my emails. I first thought maybe he had me blocked, however if I go to either of my two accounts' web based email pages, he receives my messages just fine.

And I always receive his emails. The only odd thing that might be a clue is that, since this began, about half of the email he sends me now, whether I view them in Outlook or on the web, is in plain format with system fonts. Sometimes they come to me in HTML.

I never get any delivery failure notification either. The last time he got one of my emails is when I sent out a July monthly newsletter to about a hundred people including him. I usually get the same few failure notifications because some of our members' addresses have changed or can't be found... the usual reasons, and I need to update my distribution list. But he got that letter in July, and that's the last time I've been able to send him anything through Outlook on either AOL or Roadrunner. Hi there,

I got a Surface Pro last month. It had a 8GB partition for the system's default restoration which I transferred to an SD card before merging that space with my C: drive.

Considering the unreliability of SD cards and the fact that this will be pointless past June 30th because I won't be able to get updates if I install 8.1, I was looking into other alternatives. Although I did back my partition with Clonezilla after I was done installing everything, it would be nice to be able to do a fresh install if needed. Since I do own a Windows 8 license, I should be able to install Windows 8.1 from a disc (I have external DVD drive) using my key code that I discovered after running Belarc Advisor.

Anyone has any idea if this would work?

If it's an RT system --then no. The newer surface pro's which are Windows will work exactly like windows --if you change the built in version that came with the device (you'll have to disable protected boot first) then a retail copy will install OK. Backup though just like you would a regular PC. It will also work just like a windows PC regarding updates etc.

For RT all bets are off - and that whole RT system doesn't actually look very long for this world either.

hi, i bought a Microsoft Surface Pro, full Win8. I use it mainly for reading Kindle books and pdfs, minor use of Microsoft Office.

Turns out that a bunch of my Kindle books (expensive reference books) are not compatible with iPad Win 8 kindle app, and they dont plan to fix the kindle app.

I never use the touchscreen. Do use bluetooth, wireless internet.

Would I be ok downgrading to Windows 7, and if in future I change my mind can I go back to Windows 8?

Suddenly, the d, e, o, m (and more) keys will not work on my power cover type keyboard. Not sure what caused the issue, don't rememeber downloading any updates or giving the keyboard a bang/fall.

The Power Cover is also charged-up, it's not a case of it's battery being flat. Sometimes I can get affected keys to work if I unattach and reattach the P.C. but a few seconds later they will return to not working. Please note this problem happens after a restart, after a shutdown, across two seperate surface devices (one win8.1, one win10), and after a factory reset back to Win8.0.

Somebody please tell me there is a fix and it isn't destined for the great office desk draw in the sky.

Forgive the title typo...

I work in a help desk and a caller called asking to be added to what they thought was a distribution list. I looked up the name of the DL in the Global Address List and it does not appear to be a distribution list based on the icon next to the name of the presumed DL. They actually claimed to be the owner of the "DL" so I thought adding members would be a piece of cake, I would just walk them through modifying the members of the list. Problem is this is not a DL. It is some type of custom receipt contact. Attached is a screen shot of the Icon displayed next to the name in the GAL.

Sorry for the enlarged picture. It appears to represent a picture of a globe in front of a person contact icon. How does this function? I was thinking... okay... this is not a DL but somehow there are members of this group and they receive emails to their personal email accounts when an email is directed to this group like a distribution list. I thought if that is the case then maybe all our exchange group is doing when they receive a ticket to modify things of this nature they are simply adding an SMTP address to that persons personal exchange profile so emails are directed appropriately?

I really don't know exactly and am kind of lost on what icons represent what functions in exchange.

That look more like a contact than a distribution list. A DL has an icon with two people on it. Look in AD Users and computers under contacts and I bet the list they think is a DL is sitting in there. Either that or they created a personal distribution list which will never show up in the GAL.

2 PCs, 1 Router, 1 DSL modem

They can recieve emails fine

But when they try to send them, the emails appear to just sit in the Outbox. If you close and open Outlook. The Outbox is empty, but the email was never sent.

I belive the issue is with the router or the ISP. This is not an SMTP (port 25) issue, since they are using MS Exchange client to send and recieve the emails and they are on a VPN connection.
The VPN connection is working fine since they are able to recieve MS exchange email without a problem.

Background: I am about to leave the company I have been in for 10 years. I have Outlook 2011 on the mac that I will be taking with me away from the company. However, this version of Outlook is currently linked to an Office 365 account - and exchange account for my email... And obviously these accounts are going to be closed.

What I would like to do: I would like, essentially, to fully recreate my current outlook (with contacts and email folders etc) in another email client - such that when the exchange account is deleted - all the contacts and emails remain on my computer in this other email client.

If anyone could let me know the best way of doing this it would be very much appreciated.

Let me give you some back ground. I work for a small Charity, I'm the Administrator.
We've just upgraded our email system to Exchange 2000, and this is the first time I've ever used it. We also bought a Win Server (2000) too.

I've just found out that I can possibly send and receive our work emails through the WEB - which will be very handy !!

I've just done this in Internet Explorer, and I like what I see:
(username and password)
What I'm asking is, does anyone know where I can see a step-by-step guide on how to set this up on the internet. - AND, just so you know I am a very quick learner, with good knowledge and full understanding of computers and the internet thingy ;-)

you need to set up a router to map the external IP (internet IP) to the server ( like NAT), if you could you can have or buy a domain name for the server so the users are easy to remember the address. That should lead you to expose your server on the internet.

I just started getting the following dialog box in my Outlook 2007/Exchange email when I try to click on a URL emailed to me...

?This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator.?

I do not have this issue w/ Thunderbird or webmail, etc.
Some research seems to point to the fact that IE is not my default browser & I would like to keep Chrome as my default.
Any thoughts on this?

Had a similar issue when a user installed Chrome and then uninstalled it. Did you uninstall or upgrade Chrome recently? It seems that they still need to polish some of the uninstall code as it leaves some registry items in a broken state. It?s not that IE isn?t the default browser, it?s that the registry entry for the default browser gets mucked up by Chrome. Checking and unchecking default browser in IE or Chrome won?t fix it once it?s busted.

I don't understand this---the IT people said up exchange server (2003) at work--we had a VPN tunnel and that was the only place you could use regular outlook (you could use a pretty rudimentary web version outside the office. Then they came up with this new method where I could use Outlook (I use 2010) anywhere where I had an internet connection (I installed some security certificate on my laptop)--it would connect to the server over the Internet. They have some very expensive router and VPN set up between our offices.

So yesterday, I lose internet--I figure out the modem is fine so it must be the router, but I can't get any IT people to call me back! So I purchase a Linksys router, swap it out, configure the static IP, change the default IP address of the modem, and everything is fine except connecting to the server (can connect to the network and the internet. Now here is what I don't get--if I hard code the static IP info on my laptop and connect directly to the modem, I can get on exchange server no problem (just like at home or anywhere else where I have an internet connection). But if I try through the new router, it won't connect!

Now I thought this issue had something to do with the firewall or other security they had set up in this other router we were using, but as I said, it crashed so I swapped in a new one--did nothing to it but hard code the static IP info and change the default IP to which is the sequence they were using wit... We have recently installed the "microsoft exchange server" and now when we open microsoft WORD and press "send as attachment" the email appears to send but just goes into the outbox and not to the recipient.

Our IT professional says this is a" known bug with the exchange server" when using word. Is this correct?

2) i port forwarded smtp port 25 to my servers address
3) outlook is connected (well at least it says it is) but no mail is coming in

I am using Outlook 2010 on W7 64 in my home office. All my email accounts are POP3. My part-time work wanted me to use an email account on their Exchange server (2003). I closed Outlook and when I reopened it, my Favorites were gone, all POP3 accounts were shuffled in the left pane, all my previous accounts now funneled all emails into one Inbox, and all my Rules were gone. When I tried to redo the Rules, Outlook had changed so that the Rules now applied to ALL the Inboxes for all accounts and did not have the same rules dialog as I had been used to. There was no way to recreate my rules or separate out my POP3 accounts. Now all my email is dumped into one Inbox and I have to manually sort out the messages.

Thinking that the Exchange account was to blame, I deleted the Exchange account, but to no avail. I had to reconstruct my Favorites (no big deal) but there is still no way to redo the Rules and all my mail still goes to the main Inbox.

Is there any way to get back to the way it was? Thanks.

Hello Everyone, we have a user who is experencing something very unusual with her mailbox account.

Apparently, when she sends email to certain people (people outside of our domain), and when the recipent tries sending back a reply message to her, she does not receieve the reply email.

I then asked her to CC me on her email, and have the replier of the email to "REPLAY ALL" when sending his/her reply back to our user, to see if at least I was receiving the reply.

As it stands, I am able to recieve the reply email, however our user (who iniated the email) does not recieve the reply (so for the time being I am forwarding these replies over to our user, which she recieves).

I have checked her mailbox options, she is below her mailbox limit (limit = 200 mb, currently at 128 mb), I have also increased her ability to send and recieve attachments up from 8 mb, to 15 mb.

Even with all of these changes she cannot recieve a reply back for her email.

I will try setting her email up with personal folders, to reduce her mailbox size, as well as deleting her email profile on her computer, and then re-creating it to see if it makes any difference.

I welcome all input/suggestions, any help/advice would be greatly appreciated on this matter, thanx again all!!

I use Outlook 2016 for all my email requirements.

Previously had above two email accounts sending and receiving from the same PST file each using POP3.

Wanted to change the Outlook.com to IMAP with my understanding being that this would then sync both ways with the web-mail for Outlook.com.

Deleted the old POP3 account settings for the Outlook.com email address and then went through the process of setting up again using the automatic configuration rather than the "manually configure" thinking this would automatically use IMAP. (Left settings unchanged for the POP3 BTinternet.com email address).

To my surprise the Outlook.com email address was not setup as an IMAP but as an Exchange Server.

Initially thought this would be ok as this would also sync both ways with web-mail. Soon discovered however that any email coming in to my still remaining BTinternet POP3 email address was also arriving into the Outlook.com Inbox.

Why is this happening and what do I have to do to still keep the POP3 email separate from the Exchange Server email each using their own Inbox? (Both Inbox's are listed in the left hand panel of Outlook 2016).

Any help much appreciated.

I no longer work for the company that had the Exchange server and I have my personal pop3 email coming into Outlook.
When I try to use the rules wizard, it tells me that the rules must be on the Exchange server. How do I correct this?
Is there some other way to direct emails from different pop3 accounts into their own inbox folder?

Hi All,

I work in HR, and am being told by the IT folks that something isn't possible. But I just don't believe it so I'm posting here to ask for your help.

I may not have the perfect wording since I'm not expert so please be patient. My understanding is that employees use Outlook email version 2007 - so when I need to send emails to the same group of people I can create personal distribution lists. I just copy email addresses from an excel file or to TO: line of an existing email and paste into the members box under "new distribution list creation - add members".

However, here's where the problem is. The marketing department gets data from me to create and maintain global distribution lists that need to be available to certain approved/authorized employees on the Outlook Exchange server thingie. There are about 10 to 15 lists that need to be updated every 2 weeks. My IT people are telling me that the only way to update those global lists on the Exchange is to give them a list of email address to add or remove and that they have to add or remove each email address manually one at a time. My idea was to just send them a new list of email addresses for each list every two weeks or whenever and then they could juse delete the old distribution list since it's out dated and create a brand new global list so nobody has to try and identify just the changes for those 10 to 15 lists (very time consuming).

I am running Vista Ultimate SP1, Outlook 2007 (12.06423.1000) SP2 MSO (12.0.6425.1000) with an http Exchange mail account as well as an Outlook Connector for Hotmail plus POP mailboxes.

Recently (since installation of Office SP2) adding a new contact or sending an message with a new email address the email address is not underlined and when attempting to save the contact or send message the following error is displayed:

"The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action."

This message also appears even if I try and send meesage by one of the POP accounts.

This is very frustrating as I cannot create new contacts or send new messages. I'd pull my hair out... but I've got none left!

I would appreciate if anyone knows how to fix this issue.

Appreciate that you have correlated the problem to Office 2007 SP2. I am having the same problem with an XP Pro PC using Outlook 2007 connected to Exchange 2003 over Http/RPC. There are two accounts: Exchange and one POP. If I take the Exchange connection "off line" it is possible to add the new email address to the contact. THEN, I can send the email via either Exchange or POP. Also, I cannot send an email to an address that is not already in "contacts", or apparently never sent an email to a particular address. So, same work around. Take Exchange offline and then send email via POP account. With Exchange back online, it is now possible to send to the new email address.

We are been unable to send emails from our work email to outside addresses. (Yahoo, Hotmail, AOL, etc.)

My Network guy is MIA and I don't know what to do or who to call.

We are host our own email and are running email on Exchange Server 2000 and are on Windows 2000 OS. Any help or advice on who I can call would be greatly appreciated.
