How make Task Manager start automatically on reboot & show CPU usage

Q: How make Task Manager start automatically on reboot & show CPU usage

Win 7 Pro 64-bit. On reboot, I want Task Manager to start automatically, as early as possible, ideally in the Processes tab, showing processes from all users, and sorted by CPU usage (with max CPU usage on top).

If that's too specific, then I just want Task Manager to start automatically on reboot, as early as possible, regardless of its focus.

How can I do this?

If it's helpful, I have autoruns, but I've never used it to make a new startup program.

Thanks.

Preferred Solution: How make Task Manager start automatically on reboot & show CPU usage

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Copy the Start menu's task manager shortcut to your startup folder.

Hello, so the topic title is pretty much straight forward. When I open the Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc), it opens to the Processes tab initially. The problem is that I don't use this tab at all, I click on the Details tab to the right, since I'm more familiar with that. I would like to automatically open the Details tab every time I open the Task Manager. What can I do? Also, rearranging those tabs would be perfect.
(Microsoft should allow you to modify stuff like this easily and simply to best suit you and your work for best productivity. We're in 2016. Someone mention that to them please.)

Thanks

Hi!

I bought a new desktop last year to run high-end software used for my degree; I installed Windows 8 on it, having got on with it on my laptop. I did notice though, after venturing into the Task Manager, that my CPU usage was at 100%. All the time. Even when idle. In fact, resource monitor says it's working at 108% load! I thought this was rather odd, so investigated further:

It appears that task manager divides the 100% usage proportionally between the processes using the CPU. So for example if Firefox, Word and Notepad were using 5%, 3% and 2% respectively, Task Manager would report 50%, 30% and 20% usage. I was initially concerned that my processor was going to take some serious damage to its life expectancy if it was being constantly loaded - but the performance monitor in Norton Anti-virus shows the CPU load to be much, much lower - where I'd expect it to be.

My system is an 3.4GHz i7, with 16GB RAM running 64-bit Windows 8 Pro. People have suggested a fresh install, but it's an almighty pain backing everything up and re-installing VPN servers and software through various security measures, so I'd rather not...

Any clues?

Win 7 64 bit Dell Optiplex 780. 4G RAM.

A few days ago the system went sideways and now I have very high (but fluctuating) CPU usage and memory usage.  Processes in Task Manager  are running wild and some are showing multiple instances where I wouldn't have expect them to be so. Using Chrome to make this post but IE repeatedly crashes and allowing the crash to search for a resolution to the problem does not produce results. Details have shown issues with various dll files.

I've temporarily removed avast. Installed and run malwarebytes, adware, jrt, ccleaner. Did a scan disc. All these come back clean.

Thinking this is a windows issue but not sure where to start.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Dawn

Hello chasingstillness
Please start with this program.

Download Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit (A.K.A. MBAR) from HERE
Open the folder where the contents were unzipped and run mbar.exe
Follow the instructions in the wizard to update and allow the program to scan your computer for threats.
Click on the Cleanup button to remove any threats and reboot if prompted to do so.
Wait while the system shuts down and the cleanup process is performed.
Perform another scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit to verify that no threats remain.
If they do, then click Cleanup once more and repeat the process.
When done, please post the two logs produced they will be in the MBAR folder..... mbar-log.txt and system-log.txt

Thank You

For the last few weeks I have noticed that when I restart windows, several iexplore.exe processes are running - even before I've had a chance to do anything. These take up a lot of CPU space and will multiple if I don't close them in Task Manager. They are mostly listed as MIKE under User Name but there is one that is listed as SYSTEM which seems strange. I believe that these processes are actually going to ad related websites because I can notice them in my history - on some occasions I believe that they are on a radio station site because I can hear radio being broadcast even though no windows are open.

If anybody knows what I can do to get rid of this, please let me know. I am not able to do a system restore to before the problem either for some reason. I have tried numerous spyware programs and online virus scans but the problem persists. I have attached the DSS report below. Thanks!

I went into Control Panel>System>Advanced>Performance/Settings>Advanced>Virtual Memory/Change>

That brought up a dialog box called Virtual Memory. In there I selected the radio button: "No paging file" and then hit OK. But Task Manager still shows paging file usage.

Does anyone know what's going on?

Hi,

Just yesterday I realized that my computer was acting super slowly and I even received a blue screen of death out of nowhere. Upon checking my processes list,I found many suspicious processes that continued to multiply when I tried to end them. These included: PresentationHost.exe, msdtc.exe, dllhost.exe, prevhost.exe, cmd.exe, msiexec.exe, conhost.exe, and even a notepad.exe that seems to be invisible. A malware is most likely behind this, and is causing my computer to perform very slowly and be almost unusable, I have managed to run FRST, but Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is not even opening for me. In addition, this multiplying issue seems to only occur when I am connected to the internet. I would highly appreciate some help!

I am guessing the answer is no. When you run Internet Explorer, each individual tab shows as a separate entry on the task bar.. which is sort of cool, because you can then mouse over the explorer icon, and through peek get a view of all your open tabs.. Unfortunately, explorer does not have some of the essential FF plugins that I use on a regular basis.. so..

Is there a way to make this feature work with Firefox as well..?

A:A way to make Firefox Tabs show on task bar..?

Not yet,

I have seen and heard about workarounds that partly work but until Mozilla fully optimises for windows 7 this will I fear be a unique feature of IE8 amongst the browsers

I have a strange issue. I have a couple of processes that do not show in task manager at all. The strange part is they do on my other PC's.

If I start Word I don't see word.exe if I start some games I don't see their *.exe's I find it to be strange that htings aren't being listed in here. Uninstall and reinstall of offending softwares is not changing anything.

Mind you Process manager is not empty it has a fair amount going on... just some never show up.

Also no rhyme or reason as far as application opening times I can start up word first and it not show up but then start up internet explorer and see the iexplore.exe.

Over the past couple months my Windows 10 machine has gotten picky about what applications it will run. For example, I just installed the program Bins (http://www.1upindustries.com/bins/), which is reputable, but when I attempt to start it nothing happens. When I check the task manager, it shows up, eating up between 7-9% of my CPU. If I attempt to start it again it creates another identical iteration of the program in the task manager. When I end the tasks, nothing happens.

When I run the programs as an administrator, nothing changes. When I run the program in compatibility mode, nothing changes.

While not all programs react this way, many do. I have tried disabling my anti-virus/exploit programs (HitmanPro.alert, MalwareBytes, and Bitdefender), and still the programs will not function.

In addition to Bins, I've experience this with:

- Saent (https://www.saent.com/)
- Ninja Download Manager (https://ninjadownloadmanager.com/)

and many others.

Does anyone know what's going on here? How might I fix this problem?

Hi guys,

Last week, I tried to install GoToMyPC (a trial version) and the computer started running really slow, so I deleted all the files associated with it (from Program Files) after uninstalling. I didn't delete anything else (or so I think) but my Limewire kept restarting itself, and I had to uninstall it too and delete all the files associated in Program Files bc I would keep getting an error that Limewire cannot start. Now, the sound was gone too, several of the windows updates were deleted, and now the task manager won't show up. I got the sound back, and did all the windows updates. Now it doesn't show up under the task manager, its just a uncloseable window. Its already taken my account, (Only worth $80 USD) but it won't leave, how can I remove it permanently. Hey,

Earlier today, I closed my Opera browser, then tried several times to get it to reopen, but for some reason it wouldn't. When I opened up Task Manager to see what was up, then I realized...it was only staying on the Processes list for one or two seconds before disappearing!

So I went to Firefox (which for some reason was working) and installed Google Chrome. That was successful, but the first time I tried opening it, it had the same issues Opera was having...stayed on the Processes list for one/two seconds, then disappeared.

I could find NO threads similar to mine anywhere...could you help please?

I am currently typing this forum post in the application, while at the same time I have the task manager up on the app history tab. Firefox is no where to be seen. I think the only apps that show up there, are Metro apps... Is this true, and if it is, is there a way around it?

I unlocked my AMD Phenom II X2 CPU to 4 core, but the Windows not show it.
The Task Manager not show it and CPU-Z show only 2 cores. But the Device manager and a BIOS shows all the 4 cores.

I found this solution for the problem, but it is not working. When I do these steps the Windows restarts, but nothing happens. Maybe because I use a Windows 8 and a never version of EasyBCD.

What can I do for working 4 cores?

A:Task manager doesn’t show all CPU cores

You could try opening msconfig, boot options tab. Click advanced and ensure that the "Number or processors" checkbox is unchecked. This is the default setting but sometimes people change it based on misguided advice.

Unlocking CPU cores is always a gamble. In many cases the cores were locked for a reason, such as being defective.

Im using Windows XP professional SP2, and ive just installed a new monitor on my PC, when i had finished installing the monitor, i reset the PC and went off using IE to check through some web sites. When i tried to open the task manager, (CTRL + ALT + DEL ) it showed something i had never seen before. It was showing the service Tab, but it didnt show the tabs on the top, and i couldnt change the tab.I tried closing the task manager and opening it again, but it acted the same. Then, with the task manager open, i hit CTRL+ALT+DEL again, and it opened a new task manager.I rebooted the PC and it made no difference. I would really appreciate some help, cause because my PC is slow and tends to get jammed, its hard to work without the Task Manager....Im adding a screenshot of the problem, where it shows 3 task managers open, and no tabs on any of themThanks in advance

Hello, I've seen this problem posted repeatedly in SevenForums (CPU stuck @ 100% unless task manager is open Solved - Windows 7 Help Forums) and the like. I have the same problem, but I don't have the igfxupdate.exe files in my System 32 folder or SysWOW64 folder. When I open the task manager, I see the CPU usage go from 90-100% down to it's usual 10-20%. When I look on Process Explorer, I see that my 'System Idle Process' is at 70-80%. It looks like I have this virus, I have the main symptom, but I don't have the file in my folder, and I can't use the "sc delete SearchIndexer" that people type in because I get a 'Open Service FAILED 1060: Specified service doesn't exist as an installed service' error code. When I catch the CPU going down after I open it, it shows that task manager is using 65% CPU, than goes down like nothing happened, returning to normal. How do I fix this? Why do I have man of the symptoms of this virus but not others?

A:CPU Usage 100% when not in Task Manager

You need to click on the CPU column in task manager to find out what Process(s) are exactly eating up CPU resources. Your process Explorer snapshot only shows 44% CPU use.

I know I only posted about this a couple months ago but I've been away from my PC for some time due to personal issues and haven't been able to follow it up, now ever since I installed a new MOBO, CPU and RAM I didn't know you're meant to format your HDD after installing the parts, so now my PC is all types of buggy, startup takes forever, some of my USB ports take forever to register, that includes my internet thumb stick thing so no internet whatsoever, for a long period of time while the HDD is reading at 100% it is slow as a snail, after a long while it goes pretty much back to normal like now while i'm typing this.

I'm on Windows 10 at the mo, I was wondering if it is as simple as backing up files on to a external HDD, I also heard you may have to put the OS on the external HDD too? But I have no idea about that, does it mean the OS as a whole? Or does it mean the OS setup, If it is the OS as a whole I've no idea of how to transfer/copy that, I really am clueless.

Long story short: HDD at 100% usage, is it as easy ( I say easy like I know how, I don't know how lol) as backing up HDD with files along with OS file(s) on to External HDD and formatting said internal HDD?

Any extra details needed give us a shout, thanks in advance.

Hello,
I'm currently running two computers via modem through my cable company. My TV Cable and home phone run through this modem as well. The internet between the two computers is shared via LINXSYE router.
The first computer has Windows Professional XP from last year. The second has Windows XP home edition which came preinstalled on the computer 2-3 years ago. In 'windows task manager' on the first computer, under the processes tab, the 'image name/and user name' columns list "System/System" as the highest user of memory, under the 'Mem Usage' column. It's currently at 75,000K. My second computers settings for this is 250K. Is this correct ???? I appreciate the help.

Which OS are you using? Year of release? Have you web-updated it?

Sounds like a virus. That happened to me a few times and it was always a virus. If your OS is out of date you may have some open ports allowing infection to occur every time you hook up to the web, no matter how many residents are turned on.

Have you tried killing processes, or shutting down services if XP, updating the OS, etc.?
