Pen Drive 16GB not working on laptop but working on other PCs...

Q: Pen Drive 16GB not working on laptop but working on other PCs...

I got a new Kingston Datatraveler 16GB pendrive. It is working perfectly on both my desktops at home. However on my laptop its failing to write data. It can read and copy data from the pendrive perfectly, however, when I try to write data on it, it writes a certain amount on a very slow speed (500-900kb/s the normal would be 10mb/s) and then completely stops, giving a file not found error (options are Try Again,Skip, Cancel).

Sometimes it manages to transfer at a high speed and suddenly stops at 90% and stops transferring at all and hangs there at 0s remaining. After a while the pendrive completely disappears from the system toghether with the transfer box, and I have to replug it to appear again. The file is now on the pendrive but its corrupted as it onlytransferred 90%...

Does anyone know what's going on? Why is my pendrive acting so weirdly? It works perfectly on other computers except on my laptop as it fails to write?
Please help

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

If it works on the desktops, then it is not the pendrive. You might want to look at your laptop more. Have you tried different USB ports on your laptop? Are the USB 2.0 high speed ports, or just 1.0?

Hi all,

First post. I have a Verbatim Store n Go 16GB USB drive that I have had for about a year. All has worked fine up until today. I was using it for a while, went out, came home, and decided I needed to take some important info off of it. I plug it in, it lights up, and the icon shows up on the taskbar that is used for ejecting it. But it won't come up in the My Computer folder, so needless to say, I could not access whats on the drive. It did however, work on my Vista Laptop at first. Well now, it will not even light up, let alone get recognized by both computers, XP and Vista. I have vacation pictures on there, school work, documents, and other important info that I have recieved since I got it. And figures it happens as I am in the process of transferring everything over to my newly purchased external drive. This was the next thing on the list, and I am hoping there is still a chance to revive it. I don't really care if I have to replace it, as long as I can transfer the stuff off it first. I have no idea what happened. It was working about 4 hours ago, before I went out. I came back, plugged it in, and it is no longer working. I am very causious about removing it, and I always make sure I get the message that I can safely remove it. If someone could please help me out, I would really appreciate that.

Thanks,

Bill

I have an external hard drive - ClickFree 527B3, 500GB. It doesn't have warranty. Whenever I try to write files to it it will stop working, and show up as empty, after 16GB have been written. I reformatted it and the same thing happened. I tried creating two (primary) NTFS partitions and only one worked in Disk Managment. Is there any hope for this drive?

A:External Hard Drive stops working after 16GB

Your ClickFree is a speciality product used to automatically backup the content of the PC to which it is plugged in. We may not know how it is configured to achieve that goal.

In general,

You may have to stick to the procedures laid down for the device on how to format it through ClickFree interface and how to use it.

I also understand you have a Master Reset facility that will reset the drive to factory defaults.

If all these do not resolve your problem you may have to take up the matter with the Tech Support for ClickFree.

You may also check Clickfree and Kooboodle Forums on some troubleshooting tips and other discussions.

You may also post a screenshot of how your ClickFree shows up in Windows Disk Management. ( Please click on the Show/Hide Console Tree and Show/Hide Action Pane icons on the tool bar of Windows Disk Management screen so that we get a full screen view without any truncation.)

My memory stick was working fine, and all of a sudden it is telling me that it is either passworded or not found, I really do not want to format it again as I need to get at the documents that are on it. Please can anyone advise me what to do - is there anyway I can get the information off and even transfer elsewhere? Also, why did this happen as I always ensure that I ensure that it is safe to remove the stick from the computer before doing so.

I've recently bought a ThinkPad Yoga 14 (with Broadwell CPU) and have been trying to get a 16GB RAM module working in it without success. I bought the 16GB SO-DIMM module from I'M Intelligent Memory http://www.intelligentmemory.com/. The advise thier memory is compatible with all 5th Gen (Broadwell) Core i-series Intel processors. I see Lenovo has recently started selling their own 16GB module Part No. 4X70J32868 http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/acc100204. Here only ThinkPad T450s and X250 are supported. Users on these forums have also reported the Intelligent Memory modules also work in these machines. Is there a reason for only x250, t450s supporting 16GB RAM modules? Why would other Broadwell laptops like the ThinkPad Yoga 14 not be supported? Is there something special about the CPU or BIOS on these machines? Or is this a marketing decision to restrict 16GB support only to high-end laptops?

There are various claims that 14z/n411z can be upgraded to 16GB (unofficial or therotical based on CPU-i5 being Sandy bridge)

Here are the main issues on this subject that has left many customers scramble for answers and find themselves confused:
* It is the interest of customers that Dell come out with an official statement "confirming" or "denying" if this is possible
* Yes, at the time of sale Dell stated that max permitted was 8GB. But now therotically (Sandy Bridge CPU can support 16Gb) and based on other users experiments it seems possible, but no concrete/firm proof available.
* If it is possible, Dell can always state that it will not support 16GB, though it (Dell) has tested it as possible in their labs.
* In the absence of a confirmation from Dell, most memory vendors are not selling memory 16 GB upgarde for Inspiron using their "configurators".
* There is another confusing twist to this problem, created by the fact there is another Dell XPS model facing same problem. But they newer CPU, for which most vendors are selling the memory upgrade on their configurators.
* For Dell, most users are now "past their Warranty" period. There is no liability in answering this question. In the LARGER interest of customers Dell should clear this doubt.

My CD/RW DVD drive stopped working, its not shown in Hardware Manager (even as an unknown device) and in My Computer it shows, under "Other", "Local Disk (E" and the icon is an older hard drive icon with a big red circle with a "?" in the center of it.
When i check its properties it shows as a "Local Disk", File System "RAW", but no other programs even see it.
Any ideas what to do?

I have a pioneer blueray writer drive installed in my Sony Vaio laptop. I'm on holiday and brought some DVD's with me to watch in the evenings. I have watched several since arriving but tonight when I tried to play one nothing happened. I checked in device manager and it reports that the drive is working properly but when I checked device region I found that it was set to region 1 instead of region 2. When I try to switch to region 2 I get the following error message;

"Unable to update region setting. The drive reports that it requires media of the destination region (region 2) so please insert appropriate media and try again."

When I insert a region 2 DVD into the drive and click okay it asks if I'm sure I want to change to region 2, I click OK and I get the same error message as above. I have tried uninstalling the drive and then rebooting the computer to force Windows 7 to reinstall it but it just comes up the same as it was. Any idea how to get this working again?

A:Laptop DVD drive not working

It would appear that you have exhausted the five region code changes allowed for the optical drive. ( Your region code is now fixed to 1 and you may not be able to change it any further.)

In the circumstances, you may download DVDFab Passkey Lite, run it in the background and watch any region DVD. Passkey Lite -- Free and Lite version of Passkey for DVD & Blu-ray

So I have the official Win7 Ultimate CD and Product key (the one installed on my laptop now) and I have a 16GB USB Thumb Drive. Can someone please point me in the direction of how to make a bootable USB from my CD if that is possible....Thanks...I have downloaded and installed the Win7 USB DVD Tool on my desktop.

Hi everyone, i hope someone can help me with this.

My last laptop was very unreliable and I had many problems with it; so I bought I 20gb usb flash drive to back-up my essential files, music etc.
So when my laptop completely packed up on me I thought I'd be safe. Unfortunately the drive I bought doesn't seem work on my new laptop for reasons best known only to itself.

(I know its compatible with vista because I had vista on my old laptop.)

My new laptop is an acer aspire 5738Z; I'm not very good with all the really 'technical stuff' as you can probably tell so I have no idea what information you'd need for this this problem.

When I first plugged the flash drive into the laptop it made the usual noise it always makes and it installed something automatically but then didn't recognise it beyond that.
Since then whenever I plug it in nothing happens at all. My laptop doesn't seem to register that theres anything there.

I found some general advice on another site and so went to device manager and uninstalled all the usb things it told me to. When I turned the computer back on everything re-installed but the flash drive still won't work.

I'm pretty sure there's nothing wrong with the usb ports because I managed to put some songs onto my ipod when i plugged it in a couple of nights ago.

I have absolutely no idea what to do about this; I'm hoping someone else out there can make more sense of it than i can!
Thanks in advance

The optical drive on my HP ( Model # dv9628nr ) laptop isn't reading ANY discs that I put into it. I've tried updating the drivers, uninstalling and then reinstalling the drivers, putting various cds and dvds into it, and it will not read them. What happens is the disc begins to spin, the drive sounds like it's going to work, but then the disc stops spinning. The drive still sounds like it's trying to read the disc before, during and even after the disc stops spinning. I've tried manually starting up the disc by going into "my computer" but it does not work. I've tried cleaning the lens, blew some air into the drive, but still nothing.

Am I missing something? Is the drive bad and it needs to be replaced? The 1 year manufacturer's warranty has expired, so any repairs or replacements needed I would have to/rather do myself. Where is the cheapest and quickest place to buy a replacement drive for the laptop?

2 other quick items of interest. I'm running Vista. Also, a couple of weeks ago I underwent the task of ripping all my cd's onto my computers (I have 2) and this particular laptop/optical drive was extremely slow at ripping the cds (about 45 min to an hour per cd, whereas the other computer was 5 to 7 min).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Please help me out.

A:My Dell inspiron 3542 laptop speakers are not working, but 3.5 mm jack is working fine.

Hello. The problem could be either in the hardware or the software, so you need to test each. Perform the tests below -- it doesn't matter which one you do first.

To test the speakers, perform the Quick Audio Check in the ePSA test. If the speakers fail the test then they have failed or become disconnected. (Click the link for instructions on how to run the test.)

To test the software, switch between the Realtek audio driver and the Windows native driver. [This test assumes that your laptop has the Realtek audio driver. If you get to step 2 and do not see "Realtek High Definition Audio" then go to the Dell support page for your model and download the Realtek driver that Dell provides for the version of Windows that the laptop is running.]
1. Open the Device Manager (find it in the Control Panel, or type devmgmt.msc into the search box).2. Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio".3. Select to "Update Driver Software".4. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".5. Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".6. Put a check in the box "Show compatible hardware" if not already checked.7. In the list of devices, click "High Definition Audio" (the native driver).8. Click "Next".9. On the Update Driver Warning box, click "Yes" (install the driver). 10. Restart the laptop if prompted. If not prompted,... Read more

So recently the sound on my desktop and my laptop has stopped working. For seemingly no reason. I really don't understand it.

I first noticed it with my desktop. The sound just randomly stopped working. But not...entirely. It's really strange and complicated what's been happening, so bare with me while I try to explain it as best I can.

PC:
First time sound stopped working on PC. Restarted computer, sound came back, no issues.

Second time I woke up to find VLC frozen. Sound wasn't working. I restarted VLC. No sound. Found out that there was no sound on the computer at all. When I'd try to increase the volume on VLC, it would only change within an interval of ten percent. So it was at 50 percent initially. Would not let me go below 50%, but not above 10%. Sound didn't work anyway. Restarted, sound returned VLC working fine.

Third time I was playing Dragon Age: Inquisition. Sound worked fine, using my headset (Turtle Beach). Went to speakers to lay down and watch some shows on VLC. No sound on speakers. Switched to Turtle Beach again, sound returned. Restarted VLC, now suddenly no sound on VLC OR speakers. Had to restart computer, no issues after restart.

Laptop:
First time sound stopped working, used the "disable audio and reenable audio driver," didn't solve anything. Restarted, sound came back. Sound stopped working again same day, restarted, sound came back.

The next time I restarted the audio driver (Realtek) and then I shut down Explorer and then restar... Read more

A:Sound on Laptop and Desktop Randomly Stops Working and Working

Update: I'm not at home to test my PC, but I think I discovered the issue. It seems to possibly be a glitch or something with flash player.

After watching an episode of Daily Show on Hulu, I went back to Tumblr and saw that a video didn't have sound, and then all sound on my computer was suddenly gone. I then tried something out, and shut down flashplayer. That temporarily brought sound back.

But it quickly went away.

Then I shut down Firefox and flash player entirely, and sound comes back even when Flash Player comes up.

What could cause this?

Hi,

I have a dual boot of Fedora and Windows, and when I boot into Fedora, my headphones work fine. When I boot into Windows 7 64bit, my headphones don't work. My laptop speakers work fine however, and I tried re-installing drivers. I made sure that my headphones are the default playback device, and I only have one headphone jack.

Other people who had this issue solved it by replacing their audio jack, but for me that is not a problem because the audio jack works fine when I boot into Fedora.

Please help!

A:Laptop speakers working, but headphone jack not working only on Window

Normally, the "Speakers" (PC sound) is set as the Default Playback device and not Headphones. In fact, newer RealTek sound systems do not even show the Headphones when plugged in.

Are you using the correct sound drivers? Not the generic Windows installed High Definition Audio Codec.

What all is listed in the Device Manager, Sound section?

Hi!
I recently noticed that when I do a Google search, the link redirects me to random ad sites, making it nearly impossible to get to the page that I want. I tried System Restore, only to realize it won't let me go past the last step. Also, my CD/DVD drive doesn't seem to be working. You can watch movies and discs in the drive, but it will not recognize a blank disc for burning music or photos.
I have AVG, and it has only detected tracking cookies. I scan with Malwarebytes on a regular basis, and it never seems to find anything. I scanned with AdAware, and it detected tracking cookies as well. I clean out my Cookies and Temporary Internet Files folder quite frequently, but I can't seem to fix the problem.

I have a CD/DVD/Blu-ray player that I pulled from my old laptop so I could use it in my current laptop which does not have an optical drive. I purchased a SATA cable to connect it to my new laptop via USB, but most times I plug it in, it does not work. By this I mean, I got it to burn audio files on a DVD-R (thought it was a CD-R), but have not got it to work since then, with DVDs or CDs (behaves the same). It does show up as drive (D:), but when I click on it, it does not do anything.

It consistently freezes Windows Media Player on startup of the program, and causes PowerISO to freeze upon selecting "Burn". When I go to Disk Management, it just perpetually reads loading virtual drives or something

All I am trying to do is burn my grandpa a CD of MP3s from an album I bought (Guns N' Roses Greatest Hits). Any help is much appreciated, please let me know if you need more information.

Here is what I know about the player:
It?s from a Toshiba laptop, I don't remember what model. The player model on the sticker says ?UJ141?, and it says the power supply is ?DC5V?, if that could be the issue

My HP dv6000 has given me problems before, my wireless internet doesn't work anymore and I need to have my computer connected to an ethernet cable. If anyone can help me with that it would be very appreciated.

But this problem is different. A week or so ago I put a dvd in my computer and was hoping to watch it, but instead nothing popped up and when I looked at "Computer" to check my drives, it didn't even recognize the disc drive.

I went to that microsoft link

http://support.microsoft.com/mats/cd_dvd_drive_problems/en-us

and when I restarted my computer it wouldn't get passed the microsoft loading screen and just went to a black screen. I took the disc out of the drive and restarted the computer for like a day and eventually it started to work again. Now it turns on alright, there is some fight. But if I have a disc in the drive during start up it doesn't turn on, and if I put a disc in while I'm using it, it freezes my computer and puts weird lines going across the screen.

Any ideas on how to rectify this situation?

Hi guys,

Long time no see.

I have, well, my cousin has an old laptop that I tried reviving over a year ago and installed Windows 7 on it. From that point on quite a few of the main drivers stopped working.

Namely, the wireless and the CD ROM drive. So I couldn't access the net easily to try to find solutions/fixes nor could I start from scratch and put things back to the way they were with XP.

The Model is HP Pavilion ze5300...I real dinosaur.

I've attempted to fix it off and on, with months and months passing in-between that time.Yesterday I was doing some work at a church and had success so I felt encouraged to tackle the laptop in question once I got home.

I figured out, previously that it's the drivers, they don't seem to work or want to work w/Win 7. Last night I went to the site, http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?cc=us&dlc=en&lang=en&lc=en&os=228&product=420315, and installed or re-installed rather all the drivers minus the BIOS ones.

I don't know which one it was, but the CD-ROM drive was recognizable by the time I was done. I felt sucessful so I then had to get things back to what they were, which is to put it back to original specs, Windows XP Home Edition, the key is on the sticker at the back of the laptop.

So I shut down the machine and went to the torrents to find a couple ISOs of XP. I also decided this might be a good time to experiment with the latest Ubuntu, since I have a laptop that I ca... Read more

Hello.
I have a dell inspiron n4010

Basically the sound doesn't work unless its in a hdmi or headphones. It won't play sound out of the laptop itself. I've updated the drivers and checked the bios, and it seems to be enabled. What can be the problem?

A:Sound is not working on laptop. Drivers updated, still not working.

Digital Audio (HDMI) Is the standard Windows driver for sound. You need the realtek drivers which can be found here - http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/uk/en/ukdhs1/Product/inspiron-14r

Download the driver (listed under audio).
Make sure the on-board audio is on in the bios, disconnect from the internet, uninstall all sound drivers and reboot.
Install the driver you downloaded and reboot.

An then reconnect to the internet. (This prevents Windows from reinstalling the Digital Audio HDMI before you can install the correct audio drivers).

Post back and let us know how it goes

ASUS Notebook G60Vx Series

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN
A few days ago my internet suddenly stopped working. I plugged in the ethernet cord and everything worked fine. Checking the properties in the device manager showed the device was working properly, I also tried resetting it to make sure it was enabled but it did not work.

Upon troubleshooting, the "Windows Network Diagnostic" said the problems was that the Wireless adapter was not turned on. Using the switch on the front of the laptop as well as the function keys does nothing. Usually a graphic pops up showing if the WiFi is on or off, changinging transparent to show the WiFi is disabled. Now when I turn the switch on it always appears transparent, effectively going from off to off

So I know the computer reads both the function keys and the switch on the front but both methods never actually turns the adapter on. I just finished a system restore and nothing has changed

Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

A:Wifi not working on ASUS laptop, LAN working fine

Maybe the switch or adapter is defective. Some other ideas ...

Do you have an ASUS utility to also turn the wireless on/off? (I have an HP utility on one of my laptops that will individually control the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth if the physical switch is on.)

In Device Manager right click on the adapter - Properties - Advanced tab. Sometimes there is a Property in there that allows turning the adapter on/off.

If the card is easily accessible through a cover on the laptop's bottom remove and carefully and firmly replace the card several times to fix any potential looseness or corrosion problems.

Hi all,

I'm not too technically minded so I'll explain this as best I can and hope somebody can help me out.

A few weeks ago my media player stopped working - it flashes onto the screen for a split second and then disappears or just doesn't respond at all. Also the HP Advisor isn't working properly and keeps saying "an error ocurred" links don't work on the help section so I went to the HP site to try to get help there. I opened one of these instant help chat boxes and a technician  phoned me, said he could help etc mentioned a one off charge and it took me half an hour to find out how much etc. He had remote access to my laptop and was running scans that found several thousand problems and now I'm worried that he may have "planted" something in my pc. When I told him I couldn't pay what he was asking he finished the call pretty quick and left me to it.

How do I fix my problem and how do I found out if he left something malicious on my pc? I'm scared to do internet banking now :-(

A:HP laptop, media player not working, HP support not working

Those are questions that you should be asking HP support, IMO.

As for what your problem with Media Player...what version is installed?...

please i did a mistake yesterday i place a magnet a very powerful magnet, near my pc at work last night and since den my pc is not booting
its telling me that hard drive not found
please what can i do?
somebody help!!

A:hello please i place magnet near my hard drive on laptop but its not working again

It would have had to be a very powerful magnet to erase the drive -- more likely is a coincidental drive failure.
Unplug the system, remove or disconnect the battery and hold the power button for 30 sec.  Remove and reinstall the hard drive -- if it's then still not seen, replace it.
If you need further information, we'll need to know what model system (i.e., Inspiron N5110, 5523, etc.) you have.

Hi,
I have a Samsung NP350V5c-A02UK and today I noticed that the CD/DVD drive was not working. It didn't show in My Computer and when I put a CD nothing came up on screen. I looked on the internet and found that I had to look in device manager to see the problem. So I did and I clicked on my CD/DVD drive and it had a explanation mark in a yellow triangle and it said
"Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)"
I found this website http://pcsupport.about.com/od/findbyerrormessage/a/code-19-error.htm
and I tried step 4. I uninstalled the driver however I don't have the driver file to reinstall it and get the CD/DVD Drive working again. I looked on the internet and I couldn't find it to download. If you can please can you tell me where to download it because I need the CD Drive for work and my children need it for school work. Any replies will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.
Alex.

i dont have any external monitor i can hook it up to...i could get a lend of another laptop..but can u hook one laptop to another to use the monitor on the 2nd one??

Im pretty sure i have all the proper drivers which i downloaded from the support.asus website. I also removed my dvd drive and put it back in and no change.

I upgraded to windows 7 and i found a few other articles saying that their are a few problems with windows 7 not recognizing the drive. So if anyone has had this problem please help.... Thanks

I also tried to update the firmware, but my drive could not be located to do that

Welcome!

Could you please check to see if the drive is recognized at all in the BIOS?

Also, if you have another machine you could test the drive in, that would be great. If not, no big deal.

You can also try updating your chipset drivers and BIOS.

Good luck!

Hi,
A month ago i bought a brand new 250 GB 2.0 USB external hard drive (octupus link saphire case) for my Dell 8600 inspiron laptop, I've been using it as a media storage (music) and as a back up. I travel frequently and i don't take the drive with me, consequently i have to unplug it and plug it from the laptop frequently, i hadn't had any trouble...until yesterday when I plug it in...and altought there is that the laptop makes when some hardware is plugged in, and altough it appears on the safely remove hardware icon, I cannot see it in windows explorer, and in device manager it appears under the drives but i cannot manage to open the files. I tried the Filerecovery software but it did not work as it does not read the drive as plugged.

I've read a lot on your threads but, my External drive was already partitioned and working perfectly.

Any help is profoundly appreciated

Many thanks

Pablo

Unless mistaken, you should have just done some online scans which didnt find much.

Your log appears clean & I think your hard drive's workings are the cause of Windows indexing service.
