Q: HP Envy 15-k253ca Laptop HP Control Zone Scrolling option no...

DavidPK- I am having an issue that' I've had since I got the laptop in fall of last year. and this is my 2nd post about it. The problem is, I like to use the scroll area on the control zone but cannot. There is no option for the "scrolling" settings when I go into Control Panel and the HP Control Zone. I could not find a solution originally so I decided to give Windows 10 a try. .and this did seem to fix the issue. Now I've recently went back to Windows 8.1 and of course this problem came back. I would like to know what I can do to fix the issue. Here's the things I've tried :* Fresh Restore of the Original OS that came with the Laptop* Uninstalled the Synaptics driver and HP Control Zone software and Reinstalled the latest version for Windows 8.1 64 bit - Like 3-4 times ThanksBen

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi Ben, You may be able to get around this as follows. First, download the Synaptics driver on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder. Synaptics Driver Version When done, open windows control panel, open Programs and Features, right click the current Synaptics driver and select Uninstall. When complete, restart the notebook. When windows has reloaded, open your Downloads folder and run the Synaptics installer - when this has completed, restart the notebook again. Let windows fully load for a few minutes before checking. Note: In the synaptics control panel, it the 'Edge Swipes' option is expressed, you'll probably need to de-select it. Regards, DP-K

I have the envy m6-no15dx and have been suffering the same problems - solution that seemed to work for was to go into HP Control Zone Settings and Smart Sense - and click restrict to zone.  If you restrict pointing to the right 2/3rds of the touchpad it seems to get better.  I noticed that it was only the left third of the touchpad that was giving me problems.   That said, disabling the touchpad and using an external mouse seems to give worry free operation. --Mike

I tried installing the newest drivers, troubleshooting, and all of the other stuff that has been reccomended to other people and Im still having this issues. A:Unable To Add Laptop To Trusted Zone In Zone Alarm

I'm in the same situation, and have learned a few things. Go to Start > Run >cmd. In the black box, type ipconfig. This will give you the ip address of the computer you're on, as well as the gateway ip address of the wireless router. I also have zonealarm firewall, so I added the ip address to the trusted zone. You may also want to check your wireless router's info because depending on the security you've set, it may ask you for a code (WEP or WPA). Let's start here and see what happens. Sounds like this will be one for many inputs...

I recently bought a Lenovo Y700 running W10. I am trying to get it set up the way I like and cannot find an option to use one-finger scrolling with my touchpad (two-finger scrolling is an option and works just fine).

I am updated to driver, but for some reason when I go to Mouse Properties it lists the driver version as I'm not sure if this is related. Here are some screen caps of the driver discrepancy as well as the UI for the mouse, which has no option for one-finger scrolling. How do I enable this?

Thanks for any advice you can give me!

Hello everyone,

My subscription to Zone Alarm Pro is about to expire, I'm unsure as to whether to renew it for anohter year. Would you recommend this or is there a better firewall out there, either free or subscription?

A:Best firewall option (Do I renew Zone Alarm Pro)?

Hi Martin,

Only Jetico scored higher than ZA Pro in the March 2006 test results from:

Click on the Tests link in the left-hand panel which takes you to an explanation of the scoreboard details, and at the bottom click on the View Results button to go to the scoreboard comparison of the different firewalls.

Jetico, by and large, is an advanced firewall with a steep learning curve. There is a solid group of users and some threads on Jetico at the Wilders Security Forums, in particular, the Other Firewalls subforum at: http://www.wilderssecurity.com
Jetico's new firewall, I believe it is version 2.0 is no longer free. You can get Jetico at: http://www.jetico.com

If you are not willing to learn, my advice would be to stay with ZA Pro.

Hi Lenovo Team Just bought the new laptop and I'm already losing my nerves.  2h and I'm still trying to find a solution to get the touchpad working as every touchpad should be working. This is the simplest thing on earth but you guys made it possible that there's really no option on this model to change/reverse the scroll movement. Even my 10 years old discounter laptop is able to change this option. Please Lenovo: Tell me how I can fix this problem? PS: All drivers are up to date (win10) and there is also no option available in the Lenovo Vantage section. Thank you for your support!

Hi, I just received my new HP Envy 14 today and I'm having some issues with it. This happens a lot on the desktop when trying to right click multiple files selected. This is my first windows 7 pc. Is this some hidden feature that I'm unaware of? Thanks.

Hey all,

I have done several Win 8, Win 8.1 Preview, and Win 8 RTM clean installs recently and I always seem to end up with a Pacific Time Zone by default. Now, that tells me I am either missing that option on a consistent basis or MS didn't include it. Just curious to see if anyone else can confirm this as an issue or possibly confirm that I did, in fact, miss it.

I need to know whether Microsoft Mouse & Keyboard Center - Windows 10 differs in any way to the 8.1 version. Specifically with regard to the settings for an Optical Mouse ... does it have a setting whereby I can turn off Vertical Wheel Scrolling ? [see image]

A:Microsoft Mouse & Keyboard Center - ? vertical wheel scrolling option.

I don't know about your particular mouse, however Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Centre shows that option for my Microsoft Comfort 6000 mouse. The version installed is (64-bit), which I think is what automatically came through Windows Update when I clean installed Windows 10.

I also just installed (64-bit) from their website and that's the same as the screenshot too.

Hi. I recently bough an HP Envy m6-n012dx laptop. Not long after using it the Control Zone Trackpad began to be incredibly glitchy. Everytime i would move the mouse, it would jump randomly across the screen. The left side of the track pad that is supposed to allow you to switch between your open apps sometimes stops working then starts to work again then would stop working for no reason. Same with the right side that shows the start button, search button, settings button etc. To make things worse; sometimes the mouse would begin to move slowly across the screen without me even touching the track pad. I try downloading the most recent synaptics driver and afterwards the trackpad worked for a little while, then went haywire again. Not only is the trackpad messed up but sometimes my touch screen doesnt work. For instance, my touch screen currently isnt working as im typing this. What do i have to do to solve the problem, because i really like this laptop when everything is working fine

SUCCESS! After weeks of calling calling call centers in east Asia, and going as far as having a technician having me wipe my entire computer and reinstall the OS, HP is finally sending me a box and not charging me for expedited shipping and repair. After I get my machine back I'll let everyone know how it turned out, but if you still have a warranty keep calling tech support and evenly incest for them to take it in for repair. They keep trying to treat this as a software issue and it is not, it is a hardware issue.

Plug and play = (name of card)

Default plug and play = (name of card)

What happens when i put it on default, more graphics, sound better, faster load times , what?

A:Question about an option in my control panel

Hi U2K,
My guess is probably nothing. If the default means regarding a monitor that doesn't return a plug and play code to the os, it only allows the most common refresh rates at common resolutions.
If the card identifies the monitor properly, it should disable any resolutions or refresh rates that that specific mon can't or shouldn't run.

Right click on the attachment that won't open and 'save as', save to your desktop. Right click the file and go to 'open with' and choose which program you would like to open the files as a defualt. Make sure the 'Always use the selected appication for files of this type' checkbox is checked and open. Now when you open the attachment in outlook, it should load in the application you selected.
For Flash, go to www.adobe.com and search for standalone flash install. You should find the download page and be able to download a setup file to run locally which shouldn't be affected by norton or any other programs,
Hope this helps,

I have an issue that multiple people seem to have but I could not find a solution in any of the stories. I bought a HP Envy Phoenix 860-039NB which operates great except for 1 thing; The fan is going wild from the start of the PC and runs max. speeds the entire time. (Which makes a lot of noise) One solution is updating the BIOS but when I run the Assistant it comes up with the wrong BIOS update (Different Family). So this will not work. When I enter the HP Diagnostics right at the start of the PC and close it, the fan is running normal speed (So no noise). The PC is brand new but the sound it makes is horrible, can anyone help?? BIOS Version: KA2 VA0.12Board: 2B36

A:HP Envy Phoenix Fan out of Control

Hello I have seen this before. Your SSID is 2B36 but there is a BIOS update from HP here for SSID 2B4B. Version A0.38 Rev. A. Is HPSA giving you this update? What fan is making noise? The BIOS update does add fan control for graphics cards. You can open details to see. Then click on more details for more stuff. The previous versions of this update are: A0.27 Rev.A and A0.14 Rev. A. Are you using one of these now? Have you tried setting BIOS to defaults? This is okay unless you have made changes that would cause boot (Secure boot/Legacy boot mod for different graphics card) problems. You can stiil do but would have to make change again . Grzy

Hello All,

I have been trying to solve a Zone Alarm problem, but the fix seems to have turned into a Windows problem. I hope someone can help me.

I've used ZoneAlarm Security Suite for several years now, but during the past year I have been unable to install upgrades. Usually the process gets stuck during the uninstall of the old version. SO this time I tried to manually uninstall first. It seemed to work (via Add/Remove Programs) and then I tried installing the new version, but it got stuck while copying files over.

On the Zonealarm Forum I got some help from someone who gave me some instructions to follow to "completely" uninstall all zonealarm (zonelabs) files. Following these instructions (which I'll post below) appeared to have removed Zonealarm, but I still could not install the new version - it got stuck at the exact same point while copying files over.

So now I don't have the old version and can't install the new version.
Now to the Windows problem. (Thanks for your patience)

Everything else on my PC seems to be working fine. Email, internet, other programs...but then I went to use Photoshop Elements and it started up by showing me the user license and asking for acceptance (which it hasn't done since I installed it over a year ago). I accepted it and then got the following message:Your Adobe Photoshop Elements username, organization, or serial number is missing or invalid. A:Missing Add/Remove option in Control Panel

Hello and welcome to TSF

Click Start, Run and type REGEDIT. This starts the Registry Editor. Navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE \Microsoft\Windows \CurrentVersion\Uninstall\<Program Name>
( <Program Name> here is Adobe Photoshop Elements)
In the right-pane, do the following:

Double-click NoRemove (REG_DWORD) and set it to 0
Double-click NoModify (REG_DWORD) and set it to 0

If NoRemove is set to 1, the Remove button will be unavailable
If NoModify is set to 1, the Change button will be unavailable

This should help with Adobe Photoshop Elements.

Now, for ZA.

Try using the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility. As long as you installed the application using the Windows Installer, this utility will remove all the folders, files, registry keys, and entries from your system and allow you to start over with a clean slate.

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Locate and run msicuu2.exe to install the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility.
Locate and launch the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility on the Start menu.
From the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility window, locate the application in the list and click the Remove button.
Once the application has been removed, click the Exit button to close the utility.

Hi, I came across this issue while trying to solve another, the issue of the annoying on-screen caps lock indicator (solved using this method). I have XP Home SP3 generally running quite nicely but the other day I noticed when I opened Control panel that the Task Pane no longer gives the option of viewing it in either Classic view or category view.

I have it set for classic view as this is my preference. So there is no problem from my angle. It's just not possible to switch back to category view if I ever choose to in the future.

Kelly's Korner gives a tweak to set the view either way but this does not reinstate the option on the task pane.

Just in case someone is going to suggest it, No I can't do a system restore because it is turned off.

But still, it does not let me SLi those bad boys to squeeze max performance out of my pc.

What should I do?

SLi Bridge connector:

A:Dual GTS 450's in SLi. Option does NOT appear in nVidia Control Panel.

For starters you cannot run SLI on an AMD chipset, you need a motherboard with a Nvidia chipset. Short of replacing your motherboard or running a single card, there isn't much you can do other than returning the cards and going with a single card or getting two AMD cards to run in Crossfire if you want dual cards.

Personally I would return them and go with a single card. For what you paid for those two (or at least the price on Newegg at the moment) you could have got a GTX 470 or HD 6950, either of which performs about the same (or a bit faster in some cases) as 2 GTS 450's in SLI.

I just got rid of Win8 and installed Win7 Ult on my HP H1818 pc. I can open up the vision Engine Control Center, but have no options to scale my display.
The video card is an AMD 6450. I have tried the 13.8 and the non beta driver.
It was there in Win 8. I use this PC as a media center and it is hooked up to my Samsung led TV. The overscan is killing me, I cant see the egdes of the screen to max/min windows. ETC.

I have completely uninstalled all AMD graphic driver and Catalyst Control Center and reinstalled with the same results.
The computer is hooked up with HDMI to receiver to TV input. THis worked fine with Win8.

Ive just switched From win 2k to xp pro (no sp yet) so i hope this isn't just me being dumb

I'm trying to resolve some hardware issues by installing / reinstalling but when i go to the control panel all there is is "ADD HARDWARE"

unless I'm mistaken this panel should read add remove hardware? This is the same for all user accounts including the default administrator account which i have never used or altered.

Please could someone give me a clue as to how to restore this option, or let me know if I'm being dim and its supposed to be that way.
