laptop startup screen

Q: laptop startup screen

Apologies if this is not the correct board for this post.

I have a Tiny laptop (Ha Ha Ha I hear you laugh). When I switch it on the first screen I see is a big Tiny logo even before the operating system starts.

Is there any way to get rid of this and replace it with my own pic?

Many thanks

Preferred Solution: laptop startup screen

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a Dell Inspiron 17r SE Laptop and my problem is that every single time, I have to turn my Laptop ON twice in order for it to boot up successfully. The first time I turn it on, Dell logo appears for a second and then, black screen shows up. Then, I have to turn my laptop off and start it back again. Second time, it boots up without any problem. I am fed up of turning it on twice everytime, and also concerned that it will affect health of my Laptop . How can I fix this Issue, please help.
I don't have a Recovery CD or Windows 8 CD. Windows 8 was pre-installed on my Laptop.

When a laptop is starts, you usually would usually see something like the following:
1) "Windows is loading files..."
2) "Starting Windows"
3) "Screen where you log into your computer"
4) "Computer Desktop"

However, what I saw when I started the computer was the following:
1) "Windows is loading files..."
2) "Starting Windows"
3) "Light grey screen where I can see and move only the mouse cursor"
and an intermittent low volume cricket noise (for lack of better words)
4) no change from 3)

Someone gave me a free refurbished version of ASUS U50F-RBBAG05 because it gave the above problem.
So, despite being a noob (but not a noob noob) at fixing computers, I tried to make a clean install of Windows 7.
However, the laptop decided that it didn't want to install the software--(clicked on install button and waited 3 hours).
The laptop just stayed at 0% progress.

So, I was like, "Okay, so let's TRY to restore this thing back to factory settings via Recovery Partition."
Although I waited on the Light grey screen for about 30-60 minutes, I finally got to the screen that I needed.
Alas, although the laptop did "start" the recovery process, it ended up the same--0% progress and did not budge

I know that the Windows 7 installation disc was not the problem--I had 3 other installation discs (all legit).
Since the laptop decided to not move from 0%, I figured that getting the ASUS res... Read more

A:Laptop stuck at startup screen?

I would suggest you start by testing the hard drive, as follows:

As your PC is not operating you will have to use another PC to make the CD.

Open Internet Explorer and click on this: Seatools

Save the download to your desktop.

In Windows 7 right click the ISO file, select Open With, then select Windows Disc Image Burning Tool then follow the prompts.
For all other versions of windows (if you do not have an ISO burner) download this free software. ImgBurn Install the program and start the application. Select the top left hand option to Write image file to disc and then on the next window click on the small yellow folder icon and browse to the ISO file on your desktop. Then click on the two grey discs with the arrow in between (bottom left) and leave it to complete the operation.

You will need a blank recordable CD or a re-recordable CD. You cannot use this software on a USB flash drive.

When the CD has been burned boot the PC into the Bios setup and set the CD/DVD drive to 1st in the boot sequence. Insert the disk in the drive then reboot and the disc will load into DOS. Click on Basic Tests and select the Long Test.

A full set of instructions can be found here: Seatools instructions

When the test completes it will show a Pass or Fail.

So my laptop is acting up, it is a Dell Vostro 1400 running Windows XP. Its hard to describe what exactly happens but the screen becomes messed up when I start it up. I've tried using an external monitor and the screen still shows the same way. It acted like this yesterday, then after a few shutdowns/start ups it worked fine for a few hours, then late last night it started again. I downloaded a bunch of updates from the Dell website last night and updated what I could. Ive tried shutting down and starting up a few more times this morning and nothing. What can I do? Its an old laptop so I would hope to at least save whats on my hard drive if it means the laptop is close to death. This happened last year and I was able to update drivers on the Dell website and it has worked since, but now it is happening again.

I've had this computer for a long time and unfortuantely I've had major issues with it. Last night it was working perfectly and then when I tried to turn the computer on, it loaded and went to the startup screen with the microsoft logo and from there it got stuck. I tried to hit F11 and do a diagnostic test but when it was finished it told me the computer was not able to restart because of memory or something like that. Hi, Instead of using f11, try running diagnostices from the Bios Menu as follows. Shut down the notebook.  Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to enter the Start-up Menu.  Select the Bios option ( usually f10 ) and under the Advanced or Diagnostic tab you should find the facility to run tests on both the Hard Drive and Memory.  Post back with the details of any error messages. Regards, DP-K

Hello guys!

I have a serious problem with my laptop... When ever i boot up, come out of hibernate or sleep my laptop screen turns purple, not all the way purple but purple-ish... Even the boot screen is purple, and than the color fades out and the screen goes back to normal.
Every time the screen is more and more purple and it takes more and more time for it to clear up. Today when i started it, after a 2 days not turning it on, it was purple much longer and took longer time to clear up, even when i logged on my desktop it stayed purple and faded down to the bottom of screen slowly. A few minutes later it is back to normal.

I did reinstall my graphic card driver, and i did change the inverter a year ago.

The laptop is about 4 years old with these specs:

• 17" WSXGA/WUXGA ACV (Amazing Crystal Vision) Display
• NVIDIA Geforce 8600M GT 3D Graphic Card with 512MB VRAM
• Chipset Intel® PM965 Express Chipset

I put my computer into sleep mode by closing the screen and when I started it back up it would not come out of sleep mode. I held the start button to shut it off and when i started it back up nothing showed up on my screen. All of the lights on the bottom show, the fan runs, the cd drive opens and the hard drive has the normal startup hum however the caps lock and num lock lights do not light up on the keyboard and obviously the screen stays black. I looked around the net and a lot of people say the motherboard is blown and i should just buy a new computer. I would like to hear anyones opinion or a solution to fix this. Thank you.

A:Laptop Blank Screen on Startup

Please don't shoot the messenger,
Something on the motherboard has gone bad. It might be a 'fixable' or it might be a 'replaceable'. Given that it's a laptop, if you've gotten a couple of good year's service out of it, replacement is the better option. If it's still new enough to be under warranty then by all means exercise your option to let the manufacturer fix it.

After a hard slam on the lid of my HP laptop -in order to shut it- it froze, I shut it down and when I opened it again it said 'loading files' or something like that for a few seconds, then it would only go as far the welcome screen and while the next screen should be the laptop accounts, it just freezes there, no accounts, welcome message gone and the screen "zoomed in". Every time I open it it's the same, even if I choose the repair mode that is offered at the beginning. Removed the battery, still the same. Is the damage too great, or is it something I can fix on my own?

Thanks in advance.

A:Laptop screen freezes on startup.

Hello, since you mentioned a physical trauma, you could start by re-seating the memory modules and the hard drive. Also, what exactly did happen when you choose the repair option? Can you start in Safe Mode? From the advanced diagnostic, could you perform a Microsoft System Restore to an earlier date?.
Did you inspect your keyboard and switches for any sign of being dislodged or damaged in any way?

I recently broke the LCD screen on my acer aspire 5332. I have replaced it with a LED screen and a converter cable bought off eBay. The screen works fine for the first few seconds of booting but goes black after the windows initialising display. The usual startup sounds still happen and the computer appears to run normally, apart from the fact that the screen is black! (No backlight or graphics). It works fine when loaded in safe mode, and I have tried adjusting the display settings through safe mode but it doesn't seem to help when I reboot in normal mode. I assume it is a problem with a driver but I have no idea which driver to reinstall. I would really appreciate any help! Cheers

A:Laptop screen replacement: goes black on startup

Hello again Alexf.

All laptop display screens are LCD. The difference is in the backlight. Older models use CCFL (fluorescent), newer models use LED backlights.

When you replaced the display, was it an exact replacement (same type and model number)?
Also not sure what a "converter cable" is. Can you post a pic or link?

I just bought a HP Laptop. I don't know the exact model number but it has the following configuration :- Intel Core-i5 4210u
1.7Ghz Processor, Nvidia 820M GPU and 4GB RAM. It came preinstalled with Windows 8.1
Now this is my problem :-

Whenever I power-up the laptop by using the power-button, I get the Windows 8 logo and than instead of the login-screen it
gives me a black screen. Its not even a black screen, the display is exactly as it is when the laptop turned off(nothing
at all on the screen). But I know that the laptop is running because the power button and caps-lock key is illuminated.
Now I have discovered that in order to get to the Login Screen, I have to manually close the lid and open it. This however does
not work every time. How can I fix it.

Please someone help me. It is a new laptop and I can't return it because I bought it from a different country.

I've gone through some posts where they aid hit esc ASAP to get to the options menu or to hit f10 to go to the bios and perform some scans and whatnot. But when i hit either esc or f10 it just sits there doing nothing. It'll give me a little msg at the bottom saying f10... BIOS setup options, but it never moves from there. Hey everyone. I'm having some trouble with a HP Pavillion ze5568cl model laptop. Every time I try to start it up, it hangs at the blue HP logo screen. If I try to enter the BIOS setup, or change the boot order; it will say entering setup or start the load proess, but then just hangs. Sometimes it gets past this, but then I can't get it to make it all the way through an OS install. The HD was just formatted, so there is no current OS on the system. I'm not shure if this is a problem with the BIOS itself, or a faulty HD. If anyone has some advice I would greatley appreciate it.

I've had my ASUS K55A laptop for just over a year now.

I was using it fine one night, turned it off correctly and went to sleep.

The next day I went to use it and when I turned it on it only displayed a black scree (no display).

I can't even hear the fan or eject the disc tray.

I've tried it with the battery and without, with the charger plugged in and without.

All the LED Symbol lights flash green apart from the battery light which flashes orange when the battery is connected and even when it's disconnected.

I've tried the holding my finger on the power button to drain the battery but it didn't work either.

I've ordered a new battery as I've read that some laptops can only function properly with a battery....

Anyone got and advise or diagnostics?

Any help would be appreciated, thank you in advance.

Hi. Just today I was on my laptop and it was working fine.

It is an HP laptop (DV16 I think or something like that) with 64-bit Windows Vista.

All of a sudden, a few hours ago the mouse stopped moving. Whenever I pressed Ctrl+Alt+Delete it opened up that blue screen with the options on it, which shows that the only problem was the mouse. After trying to fix it for a while I got frustrated and shut down my computer by pressing and holding the power button. Later I opened it again but after a few minutes it happened again. I shut it down once more. This time, as it opened, before it finished I got a black screen that said something about checking my disk for inconsistencies or something and it did like "Step 1 of 3" "Step 2 of 3" and "Step 3 of 3". When it finished I'm pretty sure I saw that on one of the lines it said "Bad Files Located: 0".

So it finishes and my computer loads. This time it seems like everything is fine so i start up Norton Antivirus and at the same time Malwarebyte's Antimalware. I left it alone for a while. 50 minutes later (it said 50 minutes had passed on the Malwarebyte's Antimalware scan) I came back. Nothing was done yet, so I wanted to open Internet Explorer. I clicked on it, and noticed that it was as if the whole background was frozen (I could still click on things in the virus scan).

I end up getting frustrated after a while because it iscompletely unresponsive and I shut it off AGAIN from the power but... Read more

A:Freezing Laptop Mouse/Screen After Startup

First, it will ALWAYS happen when I try to scroll up/down using the little scrolling thing onthe side of the mousepad. (though it will still get stuck if I don'tscroll, scrolling is just one of the things that "triggers" it)

My HP DV2500 series laptop (2.5 years old) is now giving me blue screen on startup. A:HP DV2500 laptop with Vista, blue screen on startup

According to your dump file your issue is with the Nvidia driver nvlddmkn.sys.

1. Download Driver Cleaner Pro or Driver Sweeper (both have free versions; make sure the version will work with your OS) to your desktop screen and install.

2. Download the latest diver(s) for your video card but don't install them.

3. Uninstall your video card drivers and reboot your PC into Safe Mode. Run Driver Cleaner Pro or Driver Sweeper but ONLY for the video card drivers. I had someone use it on their chipset drivers! If it doesn't find any video card drivers that is quite okay.

4. Reboot and install new video card drivers.

Hi all,

I hope someone can help. I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro L20 with Windows XP. When I try to start up, after the toshiba welcome, it goes straight to a black screen prompting me to either start up normally or last config. Once entered, it goes to the Windows Welcome page with the green boxes flashing across at the bottom, then briefly goes to a blue screen with white writing, switches off straight away and re-starts.

It does this with all option in the black screen (safe mode, with networking, etc.). I have tried to tap F7 to get into DOS and this didnt work. Neither did F2 or F12 at start up.

I am sure I have not loaded any new software recently and cannot seem to even get to a point to do a system restore. Admittedly, my recovery CD is at another location. Is there anything I can try to solve this?

Many thanks,

I have had the Dell Inspiron 2200 laptop for 3 and a half years now and it has developed some serious problems. On start up it takes to a white screen and asks for my hard disk password. I have had it since new and never entered a password and have also acquired the master password from dell and still it will not accept the password. In order to get anywhere I have to press enter three times to get to a black screen with ?F1 to reboot, F2 to setup". Pressing F1 results in a beep then the same line comes up again. I then press F2 to get to the blue screen where all I can do to get past it is to go to maintenance then load defaults then after pressing save and exit it reboots again. Sometimes it will then load the normal windows screen but mostly it takes me back to the start again at the white password screen.

Also whenever I try to download anything or open the disk drive a killer blue screen appears with the message " KERNAL_STACK_INPAGE_ERROR" and "STOP: 0x00000077 (0xc0000185 0xc0000185 0x00000000 0x06bf3000)"

I would really appreciate anyone?s help on how to correct this problem or if I need to replace any parts or the whole laptop as at the moment it is my only computer and I am struggling without it functioning properly.

Approx three weeks ago, I experienced a screen lock-up on a rather old Dell Laptop (Model 1450) using Windows Vista. I spazzed, tried to hard-boot (realized that a DVD was in there, poss the cause). Then reached for the Windows Vista software CD (was the wrong one - license was for other laptop).

To date, I can see the Dell Banner, the Windows Vista banner and then blackness. Nothing. No cursor...no lines...I hear the fan briefly....

Have tried to reboot in Safe mode (no luck). Pressed F2 and F12...can see both screens but Im lost.

Can't locate the orig Windows Vista cd to reload.

Is this computer dead? Any recommendations on how to revive? Lots of info on there I was hoping to extract. Thanks in advance for any advice....I'll start diggin the hole to toss the laptop into...

A:Laptop showing green screen on startup and login

Hi AkilB, Welcome to the HP Support Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More. I saw your post regarding the green screen you are getting with your laptop and I will be happy to help. Besides the green screen does it look like everything is normal on the screen or you are getting an error message? It could be a problem with the actual display screen. Do you have an external monitor that you can connect to the laptop? If you do and the monitor is getting the green screen then we know it is a driver issue but if doesn't happen then we know it is a hardware failure. What operating system are you using? What is the product number for your TouchSmart? Thank you,

Your System spec says your machine is x86 - your post says x64.
Please clarify that.
When you attempted to use an installation disk - what type of disk did you use? the manufacturer's Recovery disk, or something else?

Using a Dell Inspiron 15 N5050 Laptop (Product Support | Dell US )

I've been running Windows 10 without an issue for around 6 months now. After a recent update (Thursday), now when I boot up my computer from shutdown/restart I get a black screen. I can hear the sounds. To remedy this, I close the lid and wait for the fans to go off (Sleep). When I open it again, the screen is displayed without a problem.

I had a look at possible remedies and came across this following microsoft QA:

It's clearly something to do with display drivers. In device manager, my display driver is: Intel HD Graphics 3000 (ver:

Can anyone give me any suggestions on what to try next?
