I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I bought an HP stream notebook for Christmas last year with Windows 10 , and I got a virus on it a few weeks ago and tried to reset it and I say it down for like 2 hrs and it was still frozen at 1% so I turned it off. When I turned it back on there would be a line at the top and then the HP welcome sign would show and then it would go black then turn off ( the power light was still on) and then continue to restart over and over. I tried pressing f11 to go and reset it but every time it says "there was an error resetting your pc" at about 44% and the diagnostic test found nothing. PLZ HELP

A:hp stream notebook 11 windows 10 space help

shannel First of all, you're confusing memory with disk space.  The Win10 Upgrade typically needs 20GB of disk space, and as your laptop most likely has only a 32GB drive, it has nowhere near enough space to do the upgrade. Second, the 2GB you mention is system memory, which is totally unrelated to disk space. Personally I would advise strongly AGAINST doing the Win10 Upgrade, as it is a LOT of work and even when that's done, folks have complained about later, not being able to apply the Cumulative Updates, and there is a BIG one coming out the beginning of August! Here is a link from somone with a similar model who did perform the upgrade: How I was able to install Windows 10 on HP Stream 13 (32GB S... - HP Support Forum - 5179626

I've just completed a very frustrating restore of my son's stream 11 notebook. This started after several hours of fighing with Windows update and the tiny SSD. I managed to get it updated, but the trackpad stopped working.  This is not a hardware problem since booting into the recovery system, the trackpad worked fine. I tried to free additional space, but eventually gave up, opting to reimage it. I backed up the user data and restored it using the recovery image. This went fine. (I was frustrated, though, to learn that the Office 365 install, which had also been working just fine was no longer available and I could no longer active to reinstall it.) So, at this point, I had a functional notebook. I could not, though, get Windows update to complete. It ran for over 24hours with no indication of any progress. I downloaded the Windows 8 Standalone update utiltity. This managed to kick-start the update process. There were 155 updates that loaded. These seemed to complete with no problems. Another run of the normal Windows Update process (via Control Panel) found more. I kept at this a couple of more runs. The last time, though, the trackpad stopped working. I could not figure out which of the updates caused the problem. None of these were for the Syaptics driver. I proceeded to try and reinstall the driver, using the package from HP's site. This didn't help. I tried Windows Restore. Only 1 Restore Point was available. ... Read more

For the last week I have been having issues with streaming video. Vimeo is an example of a site I am having issues with. It seems that instead of streaming as the video is downloading my system waits until the video is downloaded completely and then starts to play.

I have tried uninstalling adobe flash player and its the same. I have tested on both IE, Chrome and Firefox all with the same results.

It is not my internet connection as I have other systems that work fine and Ive tested my surface on multiple networks again the same results.

It is happening on the majority of sites that have video. Vimeo is a good example and facebook videos also present the same results. Youtube however does not seem to have the problem. I can only conclude that this is due to youtube using html5 instead of flash?

A couple ideas to try. Put your pointer up to the very top left corner of the screen. If any apps are running in the background a little box will pop up. If so go and close everything down. It could be there are a ton of apps running you don't know about.

Second thing is click ctrl shift esc and open the file manager. Click on performance and see if your CPU and memory are being overused. If so you can click on resource manager and it will show you the programs listed withthe biggest users at the top.

I purchased a new notebook with Windows 7 in October. During the first weeks I uninstalled McAfee and replaced the harddrive. Since November Windows Update fails with error messages and defender does not start anymore. I made several virus scans (complete) with multiple antivirus programs but nothing showed up.Since it took my days to install various software, I do not want to re-install W7. I also have no good backup that I could restore. I am really surprised that there is not even a single entry regarding the error code in the Microsoft Knowledge base or elsewhere.I really would appreciate help.

I'm running Windows 10 (64 bit) on my Stream 13.  However the memory is now full and I can't install any windows updates. I have looked online but all help is about upgrading to Windows 10 - I have already done that. I am successfully running Windows 10, just can't update it. I currently have 305MB of free memory... that's it!  - I have all my files, apps etc. on the D:/ drive.  The only thing installed on the C:/ drive is Microsoft Office.- I have done a Disc Clean Up and deleted all temp files, emptied Recycle Bin etc. What else can I do? I've read about deleting the partition, but I'm not sure how to do this and if it will help.

I also see myself eventually running out of space, even though I install all programs on an SD card and clean up files on the main drive on a regular basis using every possible method.  I think one or two big Windows 10 updates will mean the death of this machine. Maybe I have been reading all the other previous posts in this support forum improperly, but I was under the impression that Windows will fail to boot if the recovery partition is deleted because of the way the HP Stream is set up, as it uses some of those files for it to run, in order to save space.  Now my computer is a different model, an HP Stream 11 (It is the latest model, a Model 11-r010nr) with a 256 MB EFI System Partition and a 864 MB Recovery Partition .  So are you saying I can remove the recovery partition as noted in your instructions below without any issues, and the operating system will run properly as usual? (NOTE: I already made a backup of that partition to a USB drive): http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00810279 Thanks, PJC

Hi @pjc123? With regards to your post in >this thread<, I moved your reply and created a new topic. Reasons are this will have better visibility, it will be your own thread and the notebook is a bit different model. Thank you for posting in the HP Support forum. Yes, deleting the recovery should not influence your ability to boot the computer if you do it the proper way following the standard instructions from HP  >> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00810279>> http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04501162>> http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/Stream-11-How-to-remove-the-reco...  Please, create recovery USB drive (page 70 of manual) and when ready, remove it (page 74 from the Manual).Prior to removal, please also back-up manually your most important documents, pictures, music  to external device just to be on the safe side.Hopefully, this will free up some big space.  Did you try the other things suggested here>> http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/Stream-13-can-t-UPDATE-Windows-10/td-p/5660731and here >> http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Software-and-How-To-Questions/Storage-space/td-p/5619043  before deleting the recovery partition ?  Looking forward to your reply.

I have Windows 10 loaded on my 32Gb Stream 13 and there is an OS update waiting to be installed.  When I try to do the installation I get an error message saying that there is not enough disk space to do the install.  I get an option to use an external disk to allow the install to proceed.  I have a 64Gb microSD card installed and I also tried using an external usb hard disk, but I still get an error message saying I don't have enough space on the C drive. I've tried to get rid of files and programs that I don't need, but I still can't free up much disk space.  I've also tried to identify  Windows 10 files that aren't really needed but I haven't been able to figure out what's safe to get rid of. Can anyone offer any suggestions for how to get the Windows 10 update to complete?

I bought a HP Stream Notebook PC13 with Windows 10 already installed. I only use this computer to surf the web, but it does have an active trial version of Microsoft Office.  There are no additional programs, photos, videos, etc. downloaded to the computer beyond the original bundle.  The notebook has a 28GB hard drive and 3.58 GB are free.  I cannot run the Windows 10 update with so little free space on the hard drive.  I have a number of files that I think I can delete (Evernote and McAfee), but still not enough to download the Windows 10 update. What's the easiest way of identifying trash to delete?  Finally, any idea why HP built this notebook in a manner that updates are cumbersome/problematic?

I attempted to contact HP is regard to the issue that I am experiencing, but cannot as my warranty expired on 6/22/16.  I'm hoping someone e here can provide insight.  When I turned my Stream on this afternoon, it wouldn't boot.  Odd, since it was fully charged last night, so I went ahead and plugged it in.  Upon doing so, I encountered a black screen stating my internal battery was nearly at capacity.  What precisely does that mean?  I am able to use the notebook as long as I keep it plugged in.  Also, while plugged in I receive a message stating that it's connected to a power source and the battery is not charging.  The moment I unplug it, it shuts down. I'm more than upset in regard to this new and unwanted development.  The notebook is only 15 months old.  Is there any way to salvage it or am I looking at buying a new one?  I've always used HP desktops, laptops, and notebooks; now I will never purchase one again. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Hi,  Are you able to get past BIOS/UEFI screen? After that to Windows setup screen? Please test your hard drive and memory (extensive testing) by tapping F2 key as soon as you power on laptop from System Diagnostics. Let it finish. If all tests passed proceed. It is a very economical notebook. Therefore manufacturer has cut down many standards like hard drive storage capacity, RAM, processor to name few. This makes Windows installation tough especially Recovery process as it uses more resources.I would suggest you to clean install Windows using Microsoft windows media creation tool by creating bootable installation USB.Get the exact version of Windows that came pre installed with this notebook -->Windows 8/8.1: Option 1https://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/18309-windows-8-windows-8-1-iso-download-create.htmlWindows 10: Option 1https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2376-usb-flash-drive-create-install-windows-10-a.htmlDownload, save additional drivers from your HP support page.RegardsVisruth

I want to know what kind of micro sd card is better to use for an HP Stream  13 4G? And what kind of stuff can I put on the micro sd card? My memory is almost all full because of the updates, could I put some of the stuff in the sd card?

A:Micro SD for the stream notebook

Hi Lori,  I use SanDisc Memory card for both my Laptop and Camera..   Its really good..  Compact And excellent performance..  I would suggest u to by a 64GB or 128GB Memory card for storage..  But 128gb sd cards are more than 2 or 3 times expensive than the 64gb memory cards..  64gb would cost u around $30 but 128gb would be costing around $70 or more.. So, wat i would suggest is to buy an 1TB External Hard drive which would cost u around $50...   Western Digital and Seagate are good..  I prefer WD and i own one..So u can do like this - keep a budget of $80 and purchase a 1TB WD Ext HDD and a 64 GB micro SD card..  (Product pricing may vary)..   But remember this - Internal Hard disc or the External HDD, both a very delicate..  Should be handled with atmost care.. You Drop down your HDD once, thats it, its gone.. Dead..    But Memory cards are strong, can handle Drops, bumps and pressures..    And yes, i both HDD and mmc, u can store Media files (Pics, Movies and Songs), Software files (exe files only), games and other documents..   But u can not "install" Softwares or games into mmc ot ext HDD, there r chances that it wont work.. Also mmc are Compact but Ext HDD are not..  So upto u to decide..    Mark this Reply as "Accept as Solution" if it solves your problem.  Click "thumb up" just to say Thanks..Good Luck!! - Raj

I bought my HP stream notebook off my sister in law about 8 months ago. It was pretty much brand new, had nothing on it, and I needed it for school. I do not download music, movies, or anything like that. I have only used it for social media, school and watching some videos. When I first got it my sister in law had forgotten her password to delete her account as an admin off of it, so I just created another account. However it's having serious issues. Firefox and edge crash constantly, it won't allow me to do a system restore, and because she was the main administrator it blocks me from making some changes. While it's turned on a lot of the icons are not visable, also the low disk space error pops up all the time. I have deleted as much stuff as I can. What is the problem and what can I do?? When I try to do a system restore it says I do not have any previous check points and won't allow me. I have a very good virus protection through my internet provider. It says there is no virus.

I have resolved my issue. The problem was that the laptop casing near the area of the power button had become a little bit loose. Everytime I moved the laptop it must have activated the power button and turned if off. I had a look on the underside of the laptop, and found a screw underneath one of those rubber stickers in the corners. It turns out that it had loosened itself over time. I screwed it back in, the casing is now more tight, and the problem has stopped occuring.

If holding the power button down for 10 seconds does not power it off, leave the power supply disconnected until the battery fully discharges.  Reconnect it and attempt to boot it, this has worked for some posters here for the Stream notebooks.

I don't know if it was originally sold with this size of an HD - I find it highly unlikely. I tried to reset it  using the HP reset via UEFI. I saw HP partitioning the drive so I assumed it would be fixed. After resetting, windows showed HD size was still the same. I took a look at the disk with Windows Disk Management, and there wasn't really any unpartitioned space. What should I do?

Hi, HP Stream is made specifically for browsing purposes only. The agent that sold you the laptop should have educated you about HP Stream Notebooks  properly. As the name itself. It was made for surfing purposes only. So theres no need to FIX the computer. What you need is an upgrade. If you want to store more files or docs then get an sd card. It is listed in the overview of the computer specification Store it in the cloudGet 1 TB or 100 GB of OneDrive storage for 1 year, included with Office 365, to easily store, share and enjoy your photos, videos, and documents.2 http://www8.hp.com/ca/en/products/laptops/product-detail.html?oid=8929217#!tab=featuresCheers!

A:HP Stream Notebook not turning on.

Do any lights stay on when the screen goes blank or does everything go dark?  It sounds like the screen stays on when you are in the BIOS since you were able to run the diagnostics.  You might try restoring Windows back if that is what is not working using the F11 system recovery option.

Trying to rehab a Stream Notebook for my boss so we can use it in the shop.  Hard drive was overloaded and corrupted to the point that creating recovery media from the system by either means (USB stick or separate disk drive) was unsuccessful.  Went to the HP support site for downloads and drivers and NO recovery media option was listed.  Right now, the hard drive is wiped, so only option for recovery is external media.  The unit was originally shipped with Windows 8 and was upgraded to Win10 later.  Anyone have any info on a source for the necessary software or is this thing basically a brick now?  Hoping for a ready solution seeing as the system is only two years old and is in great shape otherwise.  Any info that proves useful would be appreciated.  Thanks!

A:HP Stream 11 Notebook - NEED recovery media!!

Hi: You can order W8.1 recovery media from the link below... http://support.hp.com/us-en/mediaorder/HP-Stream-11-Notebook-PC/7372144/model/7538969/softwareitem/798686-002/step1 I suggest you try reinstalling W10 by making your own installation media. Use the media creation tool. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 When you get to the part during the installation process where you are asked to enter a product key, select the 'I don't have a product key' option. Then W10 will install and automatically reactivate once you are reconnected to the internet.

This computer is used by a class of 33 students. The Student brought me the computer with a white screen. He said all he did was boot it up. I turned it off and turned it on several times and it just gives you the white screen. I tried hitting the esc key when turning on the computer I was able to see the screen for a few seoconds and selected f2 but then it also became a white screen. So I connected it to a projector using an HDMI cable and it I was able to see it. I  logged in and can do anything i need if it's connected to the projector. I've looked at the computer there are no dings or scratches, I've pressed around the screen and hinges area to  see if there is something loose but it will not show the screen. So my question is what now? The warrenty expired Jan 7. Is it the screen that needs replacing or is it possibly a wire that loose inside?  This is the same batch of computers that I had one computer overheat while being turned off and charging. It  started burning and smoking two weeks ago from the plug that goes into the computer. I'm starting to worry that these computers cannot handle the use of students daily for four hours. I haven't hand any issues with our chromebook carts or macbooks. Looking for a solution thanks.

Hi,Is there anyone that can help this un technical person please?I have a HP Stream notebook 11-r000na (energy star) not sure what window system it's on..possibly windows 10.I had resetted it to factory settings erasing all my files etc to pass on to a friend having bought a HP computer last week. However I need to get it back up and running so I assume need to get it into recovery.I don't have any recovery media to reboot nor for some reason I can't download the recovery software on my phone or new computer.I have turned off, pressed F11 and get the options screen up but don't actually get the recovery manager option on the screen.I have tried for 3 days on and off to resolve this and even looked for a technical support number as was willing to resolve this step by step over the phone. If there is anyone that can help me I would really appreciate it as I'm losing patience.Apologies for the long message and thanks to all that respond in advance

A:How to get recovery manager on my stream notebook

@Samboo78 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I see you're running Win10. Did the PC come preinstalled with Win10? Or, did you upgrade it from a prior OS to Win10?This is important as the recovery/reset method is different for the two situations. We can proceed when you provide the answers.

Hi Im having great trouble with this notebook.... it was working fine but it was begining to be loaded with lots of items that were no longer needed so i decided to complete a hard reset/restore back to factory settings. i followed the instructions and the restore started it got to around 65% and then a message appeared on the screen stating that an error had happened, the only oprion was to continue with the process, so i clicked continue. Now the screen simply rotates between a Hp logo screen and a black screen and nothing else. I have tried several things - upon start up i press esc f11 shows that the "machine needs repairing"?? with an error code 0000225 currently the notebook is completely inopperable...Please help!

A:Restore problem stream 11 notebook

@Mark-J1 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! This error code means one or more of the boot loader files has been corrupted. You will need access to a working PC for this step in order to create the media needed to repair your PC boot loader.Once you have that, please download and create Win10 install media from this link: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/media-creation-tool-install?ocid=ms_wol_win10Note that when you go do download and build install media, the tool defaults to matching what is already installed on your PC (as in, Home for Home, 64-bit for 64-bit). While you CAN change these settings, do NOT. If you do, the resulting media will be different and will force you to enter a NEW product code!Boot from the media you created, and follow the directions in this link: http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2294-advanced-startup-options-boot-windows-10-a.htmlYou will need to go to the Advanced Options screen and click on Startup Repair. You will probably have to run Startup Repair three times for it to fix all the boot loader problems. When done, your PC should boot OK. If it does not, there is a more serious problem.Good Luck

My OS is 32 or 64. I don't know how to find that. I have installed 13 apps on my new notebook and the storage is full. I can't download anything. I have read that you can add an sd card for additional storage. How do I do that? I've gotten rid of a few apps and do the disc clean-up daily, but nothing really helps. I am a novice user who searches the internet and I store photos of the grandkids. My apps are news and facebook/messenger. So far this thing doesn't do me much good. Any advice?

A:adding storage to my new stream notebook

On the left side is a card slot.   You put one of these in the card slot. An SD card you can buy at any office or camera store.    To insert a card: Hold the card label-side up, with connectors facing the slot, insert the card into the slot, and then push in on the card until it is firmly seated. To remove a card: Press in on the card it until it pops out Once the card is in the slot it will show up as a device and you need to give it a drive letter, generally D: After that, you can move all the files in your libraries (documents, pictures, etc) and your downloads folder to the SD card. This tells how generally: http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/how-to-increase-storage-space-on-windows-8-1-devices-with-sd-cards/ This says Windows 8 but the process is similar in Windows 10. This is also helpful: http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/8822-library-save-location-set-windows-10-a.html And this: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/redirect-folder-new-location#1TC=windows-7 When you install an application, many of them will give you the choice where to install during the process. By default they want to install in C:\program files. Put a program files folder on the SD card and then you can direct program installs to the SD card where you are given the option. You might even uninstall some of the ones you already have and reinstall them on SD card.  Post back if you need more help. If this is "th... Read more
