Peak wireless router reboots if Vista connects

Q: Peak wireless router reboots if Vista connects

For 2 years I have managed my wireless Peak router from XP Home. I have just purchased a Tosh sat pro L300-11d, dual core 2Gb mem etc running Vista home premium.

When I try to connect from IE7 under Vista, the router resets and terminates all connections. It does eventually connect to the roter login screen if I leave it long enough.

I was hoping the new machine would replace my XP but it is looking increasingl like XP is staying untill 2014!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Some time ago i moved my computer for a lan session. At this lan session i disabled my wireless adapter and enabled my lan adapter. One i returned home i replaced my computer where it was and disabled the lan adapter and re-enabled the wireless adapter. With the aerial i was using before my problem i can't see any networks at all. With a different aerial i can see the network and the signal strength is excellent. But when i try to connect, either windows will tell me it can't connect or when it does it has limited connectivity. It won't give me internet access and even though it says its connected i cant access the routers set-up page. Now none of the settings on either my computer or the router has changed. Only the physical movement and the turning on and off of the adapters is different from when it did work and now that it doesn't. I can get internet by running a lan cable to the router and re-enabling the lan adapter, but if i wanted a cable across my hallway i wouldn't have a wireless router and network card.

This ACER system used to work just fine. ACER finds the router and goes online. Brother printer connected to router via Ethernet cable. it does not map anything. ACER laptop comes up as nothing found. When I fired up my HP laptop to look for network addresses and such the Acer could see my computer and map the router and printer through my laptop. Again this problem just occured recently. at one point it say a piece of equipment with a screwed up name which was the printer but it would not print to it. It showed a question mark for the router?? again. It connects to he internet. Any ideas?? I have checked out books from the local library but can't figure out what to look for... I can't even form a cogent question I just can tell you what I see.

I just set-up a new cisco wireless router and I was able to get my work laptop to connect without a problem, but not my personal one. The router is working fine as evidenced by the one laptop working just fine. When I try and access the internet from my personal laptop it connects to the router, but cannot connect to the internet. When I try and diagnose the problem it says:

Cannot communicate with Primary DNS Server(209.18.47.61)
Network diagnostics pinged the remoted host but did not receive a response.

There is an option to Automatically get new IP settings for the network adapter "Wireless Network Connection" and an option to Reset the network adapter "Wireless Network Connection", but they don't resolve the issue at all. It says that Windows tried a repair, but a problem still exists.

I see there was a similar post in March 2008, but I tried following the same steps with no success.

If there are any suggestions, please let me know.

My dad's recently set up a WEP-encrypted wireless system for the home, and according to him we managed to use 2 gig of the download limit in one day. He claims that it could be someone outside who's managed to crack the WEP password and is now leeching off our crappy wireless. I'm trying to find out if there is a "super hacker that managed to crack the password in 3 seconds" leeching off the wireless.

He's using a D-Link DSL-G624T wireless router-modem. Is there a way to get it to inform the host computer when someone connects to the wireless system (with a pop-up balloon or something)? Trying to change the WEP to WPA doesn't work for some reason, as the router won't take to it.

I saw a thread from early 2010 which described the issue I am currently having to a T. I am on a Belkin Wireless G with Mimo router and it runs perfectly either on LAN or WLAN, until my new roommate's MacBook gets on there at the same time. As soon as the MAC connects, I get a blue screen of death and the PC restarts. I have been battling this issue for over a week now and have absolutely narrowed it down to the Mac/wireless area.

I have already uninstalled/reinstalled my wireless drivers and thought that had fixed the issue(it worked fine for 4 days), until the roommate returned from out of town and connected the Mac to the Wireless....then WAMMO, like clockwork, back came the BSoD. This seems like a very unique problem, as I have done many searches online and the one I mentioned on here is the only one I could find that accurately described my issue.

For reference, I have posted the link to the previous case below. Unfortunately, no solutions, other than reinstall drivers (which I have already done) are posted. Can anyone help? I tried everything in that thread and my settings appear to all be the same as his. Is it possible this is just some rare Windows 7 glitch that has never been resolved????

Thanks in advance!

If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all post back the results in a reply here

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box (A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

It will export the results to notepad and then automatically open notepad.

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results to a reply here
to do that:
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Select all
all the text will be highlighted
Next
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Copy
Now go back to the forum - reply and then right click in the reply box and paste

Hey everyone,

My laptop (Dell Inspiron 1505) connects to my router (Dynex, which is a Belkin but renamed to make it cheap) and I can configure the router properties from it, but I cannot see the other computer on the network, (This one, which means that the wired connection is working. I can wire the laptop to the router and it will work perfect.) I cannot connect to the internet either, even though it says full speed and excelent connection.

I have read over the other posts and tryed changing the channels, (I have tryed 1, 6, and 11), I have disabled firewalls, and all security as far as I can tell, and I have tryed changing the ip adress to other numbers just incase my modem was conflicting in some way. I have tryed connecting to other networks (the one at borders and starbucks) and it still does the same thing.

Hi all,

I have wireless internet at home through a Belkin router.

It used to work fine but one computer wouldnt connect. Stupidly, I tried checking the security password on my laptop and ever since it won't connect. (However, now the other computer does!)

It picks up the signal from the router but just won't connect. When I run ipconfig I get a message saying Media Disconnected. I've searched forums and can't find an answer to this.

The laptop still connects to the wireless internet in my office so the wireless capability obviously still works. Do you have any ideas?

Thanks so much!

I have a Dell Studio 1555 laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit that I've owned for just over two years.

Last night, after a couple of hours using the internet, the connection stopped. The wireless router still had an 'Excellent' signal, but it also said I had no internet access. All of the other wireless devices in my house connect to the internet perfectly, including when right next to the laptop.

I've tried disabling the firewall and resetting the computer a few times, but nothing seems to pick up the internet access. The troubleshooting guide tells me that it is a problem with the wireless modem, but quite obviously that isn't true.

I haven't installed anything on the computer for several months, and I have already ran a full virus check. Can anyone help me? Thank you in advance!

Today had to to conduct a bit of a messy reinstall of windows (changed cpu fan and windows wouldn't start properly so had to format and reinstall) and now my wireless adapter won't connect to my network. I should say I can actually connect to the internet through my TP-link wireless network card attached to my motherboard, however, last week I purchased a TP-Link TL-WN722N usb adapter because the signal was too weak on the network card. Before the reinstall it worked perfectly, giving me 4/5 bars of signal strength consistently with no drops. I've tried reinstalling and repairing the drivers but it has had no effect. I still suspect it is some weird driver conflict for some reason as I was having conflict issues with programs earlier in the day although they were all eventually resolved.

We have recently been seeing a lot of problems with the above adapters over the last few months, mainly concerning WPA and WPA2 encryption and windows Vista.

The adapter gets an IP configuration, and shows as connected, but communication is non-existent or sporadic.

Log into the Router and disable the wireless security and see if you are now able to connect to the internet and surf OK.
--- Please post back here if that works or does not work.

Here are a number of possible solutions

--- 1) In Device Manager right click on the wireless adapter and "update driver." That apparently has worked for some posters.

--- 2) Download and install the latest wireless driver from your laptop manufacturer's web site support section, as some manufactures, appear to now have a working driver available.
Toshiba - update has worked for some PCs
HP The latest HP Atheros driver dated Sept 2010 has fixed the issue - so check the driver date, However, that does NOT apply to all HPs / Compaqs machines

Hey.

You could go into your router under the WAN settings and set the preferred or primary dns to be 208.67.222.222.

If that doesn't help, Google for the correct way to completely uninstall the Bonjour service, specifically for your x64 machine.

My HP Windows laptop connects fine to my BT home hub 3 via wireless with no issues but the ethernet connection just recognises a local network and has no internet connectivity.

my ethernet connection just never gets an IP address and always assigns itself a 169.x.x.x address.

Originaly thinking it may be a hardware issue i booted into a Linux live cd to double check and the ethernet connection worked with no issues at all.

I have tried numeorus things to try and resolve it-

updated drivers / alternative drivers
reset TCP/IP
restored windows back to factory installation
assiginged static IP address
removed anti virus / firewall software
different router
please does anyone have any ideas of a possible solution?

many thanks in adavnce.

A:Windows Vista connects via wireless but not via ethernet

Have you tried a different ethernet cable?
Disabled/turned off the wireless on the computer.
Connected the ethernet before turning on the computer.

Usually the system will default to an ethernet connection, but with a working wireless connection, the system may not even try to establish a wired connection.

What does the IPCONFIG /ALL look like?

My laptop is a Dell Studio 17, 64-bit, Vista Home Premium. It connects with no problem to home encrypted wireless, but I cannot connect to Internet in public.

I've talked to IT employees at this "public" place (actually it's a local hospital where my husband is a patient), and since I can get to their network they consider the no-Internet connection a problem of my computer and can't help me, which is totally understandable since they're employees of the hospital.

I've uploaded a Word document I created by doing a print screen of the Network and Sharing Center screen. As you'll see, I'm open to the hospital's public access but X'd from Internet connection.

Any help would be appreciated. I'm spending upwards of 10 hours a day in the hospital and there are just so many books I can read.

I've spent almost two weeks trying to fix this machine, already deleted Norton so it connects through the Ethernet cable and works correctly. But after I connect to the wireless it will not display any more pages in firefox. I have already cloned the mac address, still nothing, any help appreciated. Thanks-

A:Vista machine connects but wont browse wireless

Please connect by both wireless and ethernet and show ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

I have here a Sony VAIO laptop that locks up only when it attempts to connect to a network, on wireless it freezes, when I turn wireless off, it doesn't freeze.

It runs Vista SP2

Event Viewer isn't bringing up anything critical AFAIK, but I'm pretty novice at using it.
Just booted it using a Ubuntu Live Disk, network works fine, so it's not hardware related, I guess I'll try to replace the drivers and see if it still occurs.

Anything else it could be?

A:Vista freezes as soon as it connects to a wired or wireless network

I would try removing the current wireless drivers...then reinstalling same. The Vista drivers could be damaged.

Hi I am running Windows XP SP2 and have a adsl broadband with a Belkin wireless modem/router. I have just bought a Peak Wireless Network Camera (model 3531CLPK330W) which has an inbuilt web server which can feed a video stream to the internet without needing an attached pc. You just configure it with the pc after connection to the router and then let it get on with sending out video irrespective of if the pc is on or not. The stream can be viewed on any web browser with Active X or java.

OK, I can connect it fine to my network, the router assigns it an IP number and I can view video fine on any machine within my network of 4 pc's. At present, for example my main pc has network IP number 192.168.2.2 and the netcam 192.168.2.4. My ISP IP number (Dynamically assigned) at this time is 86.30.20.33.

I have asked various people online to check the camera's IP number but (not suprisingly being a number on my network) they cannot see it. As I say, it works just fine within my network.

The netcam is configurable vis web browser controls and has various options regarding TCP numbers etc that I am reluctant to interfere with until I have a better idea what I am doing.

Can anyone advise me how to configure the netcam so it can be accessed from the internet?

Many thanks

A:Peak Wireless SOHO Netcam problem

Is your Web IP address (sometimes also called WAN IP, external IP, etc), i.e NOT the 192.168.. IP address a static or a dynamic IP address? You'll have signed up for one or the other with your ISP.

I suspect it is the latter; thus from time to time (the frequency depending on your ISP) it will change, hence the name(!), and your external users will have difficulty accessing your webcam.

Your either obtain a static IP from your ISP, these tend to cost a couple of quid more per month, or you can stick with the dynamic IP address, but you can sign up to a Dynamic DNS service. This will allow you to obtain a name for your site/webcam (e.g. fred.domain.com or whgatever) and the DynDNS serivce will keep your name current with your dynamic IP. You will find that www.dyndns.com, or www.no-ip.com (to name but two, there are many others) offer a basic free service that may meet your needs. You'll need to run a little program on either your router or a PC on your LAN that periodically notifies the DynDNS service when the WAN IP changes: some routers have such software as standard, or your can check your DynDNS providers site as they often provide such software for download.

Your friends need never beinformaed of the WAN IP numbers; you just tell them the memorable name you configured up with the DynDNS provider.

The 192.168... are private LAN addresses and are not routable over the Internet.

I'm not running much on this system right now besides Trillian and Firefox, and I've disabled a lot of useless Vista features. But I still notice that explorer.exe's memory peak is at 370,000K. For a system with 2gigs of RAM I know it's not a whole lot, but compared to how much it is with XP's explorer, is this a normal thing or could there be something wrong?

I am currently with Virgin Broadband in the UK which supply up to 50Mbps. During non-peak I get 50 Mbps through the ethernet and about 20Mbps on my laptop through a wireless connection to my router which is fine...

The problem is that during peak times, I get a speed of less than 7/8Mbps through my wireless connection which I feel is unfair considering I am paying for up to 50Mbps. (A connection via ethernet only drops by 4-5 Mbps to 45Mbps).

Should this be happening? I don't understand how the increase in demand during peak times should affect my ethernet and wireless connection differently. If anyone has a solution I would be very grateful.

A:Wireless broadband v slow during peak hours; ethernet unaffected

Assuming that you run an encrypted wireless connection and changed the login and password for your router, just check how many wireless networks you can see in your connection manager during the peak hours vs normal hours. You may be just suffering from interference from the neighboring networks. In non-peak hours all of those routers around you are just broadcasting their network names, thus taking little bandwidth. In peak hour the information traffic between the routers and computers connected to them picks up and creates interference.

If you see a lot of networks around, get some free software, such as Net Stumbler, that would allow you to see what channels those networks operate on and select an unoccupied (or less occupied) channel in your router.

I have set up networks before and never had a problem. first time I have used a Belkin router G+ I guess one of my question is this. I was reading on the Belkin site that it is already set for dynamic and that is for a cable modem and sounds like I should change it to pppoe for a DSL modem. would that make the difference. It is a brand new laptop and the wireless card is on and it sees the network and works when wired, it says it is connected wirelessly but wont get on the internet when not wired. Would the pppoe thing make a differnce? Please give me some help here. Thanks

My desktop and laptop are both recognizing eachother but when I attempt to connect to one another I am getting errors or password requests. I will break down the issues from each computer.

When I open the network I see my Laptop, when I double click to open the sharing folders I am prompted for a username and password... I entered my WPA username and password and was given an error that information was incorrect... I tried many variations of this and came up with the same error.

Laptop:

When I attempt to connect to the Desktop via the Laptop it attempts and gives me a error stating to \\DESKTOP could not be connected please check spelling...

I am at a loss for words... I have search high and low for a solution and am now posting here in a last attempt to determine my problem.

PLEASE HELP!

When I try to "repair" the connection it takes for ever and then it shows an error like 'fail to obtain IP. Please contact your ISP.' It also shows many other wireless connections available around but same thing happens when I connect it to any of those connections. Please Help me in this regard. I am running Windows XP.

First post - be gentle on me. Also I'm a bit of a luddite so I've turned to the experts, as I'm stranded.

I've got a laptop and wireless router provided by my work. They did all the work, so when I plugged it, in it worked fine.

Now, I've just bought a Dell C521 desktop with Vista home basic, and a wireless USB - to tie into the router I have. I've installed the wireless USB driver, and plugged in the USB wireless adapter, but no matter what I do, Vista can't see the router. I've seached Google, but not found anything that worked.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Ta in advance.

A:Vista can't see my wireless router

Wireless USB? are those on the market yet? Am I misunderstanding? Do you mean wireless network adapter that plugs into a USB port? Please provide the make/model of the Wireless Router and the adaptor that you purchased. If no one here can assist, a call to the adaptor maker should provide help. By the way if the maker of the adaptor is not the same as the maker of the wireless router, then they will likely not be very helpful and might even refuse to help.

Wireless Router/Vista?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi,

I recently bought a new Dell XPS laptop running Vista

. Its about 2 months old. i really don't know how it happened (it may have been a virus) but i had to re-install windows . The good people at dell helped me through the process with downloading the drivers ect (as I'm a novice).

Here's my problem - Since I got back up and running I noticed that my wireless internet connection to this computer is not running very well. I thought it might just be my provider or my router ( Im using a new Linkeys Router that worked perfect till now) but the internet is perfect on my other machines. Even when my XPS is beside the Linkeys I can only get 3bars of a connection ...At teh other side of the house on my other XP laptop the connection is "Excellent" all five bars reception full. It seems that its NOT my connection or router but something has happened to my XPS during the period of the re-install of Windows Vista.

Any Ideas?

I'm having an extremely weird vista startup error.
I just built my computer about a month ago and installed Vista Ultimate 64-bit SP-1. It took me about 15 tries, but I finally got vista installed. I updated the drivers for the graphics card and sound card, installed Norton Internet Security 2008 and Supreme Commander: FA, and it started doing this weird restarting stuff.

Once booted up, my computer runs fine. It runs Supcom: FA perfectly at all max settings with no slowdown and has never crashed once. This makes me think it is not a hardware issue.

Here's where the problems start. Every time I turn on my computer, the graphics card cycles the fan high, then low, high, then low eight times before it boots. It didn't do that before. I want to fix that because it takes a long time and the noise is annoying.
Once it boots up, I get the "Windows Error Recovery" screen and if I select "start normally," it starts to boot (green loading bar) then gives me a bluescreen for ~1/4 second (too fast to read or get a pic of) then reboots.
I get the "Windows Error Recovery" screen again and select "use previous settings" and it will sometimes start normally, other times I have to repeat this process. Every time I start normally, it crashes and reboots. Once it's booted, it works fine.

I tried booting off the install DVD and running "Repair My Computer"
First, I said no to using system restore. It said there was a patch... Read more

I am trying to hook up my sons laptop to our home internet provider via wireless router.
He has an HP DV4T-1000 laptop with Vista home edition.

The router is an Netgear WGR614-V9.

His wireless G works at his college so the hardware and setup are good.

The setup program for the Netgear rotuer went through the laptops and loaded loaded, ran a self check, I was rtehn asked to swap teh cable swap the cables where the router then was verified throught laptop via the RJ-45 ethernet. They whole load cycle completed and everything appeared fine, no error messages.

When I plug the enet in the router all the lights cycle as expected including the flashing enet active light.

However the laptop does not auto detect the router and when I go into the Vista setup section (forgot the name) for network setup it shows as a choice the name I gave the "home network or router" but cannot it does not connect, somehtign like network not found.

I have never worked with Vista and dont have a clue where to start. Help!

Is it possible to network/access the internet with a Desktop Pentium III running Windows ME with a primary Desktop running XP and a new laptop running VISTA? It has been unsuccessful so far trying to access the internet with the Windows ME Desktop using a wireless router. We really need to access the internet if possible with this Windows ME computer because our niece is taking college classes on line and cannot buy a new computer yet. Any suggestions or help is greatly appreciated.

A:Networking Vista & ME via wireless router is this possible?

Are you connecting wired or wireless with the ME machine? There should be no issue connecting with a wired connection, the wireless will depend on the availability of drivers for the card you're using.

Let's see this from the ME machine with a cable connected to the router.

Start, Run, COMMAND to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL >c:\IPCONFIG.TXT

Open c:\IPCONFIG.TXT in NOTEPAD, copy and paste all of it in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

I never knew the date set on the computer could cause such an issue, it's quite humorous looking at it now. Hope this will help anyone else having this issue.

For "right next to it," about 10 feet away line of sight, and for family room ...

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page (don't collapse the Radar, Connection or Signal History) of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector. If you need help with that see TSG Posting a Screenshot. FWIW to take screen shots with Windows 7 or Vista I prefer to use the built-in Snipping Tool.

Bought a new router (dlink one can't remember model) and it wouldn't connect to my internet. I now am trying a linksys one and it has the same problem.

My current working setup is an old DIR 826-L. I can connect just fine to my modem which is run on wireless internet with Rural Wave in Canada.

I bought a new router Linksys AC1200+ just to get some better range and speed as my old router is just super old. When I power cycle everything my new router just doesn't connect. In the UI (I can connect to the routers UI meaning there is a wireless connection working) I have everything correct (pppoe user+pass) but still no connection. The router also states there is no internet connection in the UI.

MY old router will 100% work if I plugged it in right now ... what gives? I have tried pinging google and it cannot find it. If I ping the League of Legends server with the (-t) command it says destination net unreachable.

I can fix 95% of home computer problems, but this is seriously evading me ... I;m stuck with a million year old router .... Thanks

I live in a Assited care facility. They have a router that with some kind of repeaters scattered throughout the facilty providing WiFi to the residents. I have my own router that I am connected to. I use my own because the bandwidth changes throughout the day with the free one.
On occassion my computer changes to the free WI Fi but my printer does not. When this happens I cannot use the printer.
Is there a way to lock my WIFI to MY router and easily change it to the free router when I take my laptop to the instruction center. About once a week I teach basic computer operations and use the free Wi Fi. So I must allow the Wi Fi to shift in this case.

A:Computer connects to other router

You can tell Windows not to connect automatically to the other router / repeaters. It probably uses the same SSID, but there might be more than one router (per floor?)

You'll have to manually connect when you teach your course at the instruction center. You should be far enough away from your personal router so that it won't connect to that automatically.

Open Network and Sharing Center
Select Connect To
Modify any preferred networks - UNtick Connect automatically
Make sure that ONLY your router is set to Connect automatically.
