Bing has taken over as my default search address bar in Firefox, search provider

Q: Bing has taken over as my default search address bar in Firefox, search provider

You know where it says www.techspot.com. Yes it has taken it over. There is no bing addon, extension or remove program. I followed a few guides I found googling and they only work until I restart FF. My old search engine was Google in the address bar.

Preferred Solution: Bing has taken over as my default search address bar in Firefox, search provider

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

In the address bar where it says your search program. Drop down the menu there. You should be able to switch it back to Google

Using Firefox for Windows 7, my browser defaults to my ISP's Road Runner search when I make an error in the address window. I would prefer that it go to Google search or to Bing search as in in my search window. How do I control the default search engine of the long address window on the left side of my address bar?

A:Solved: Firefox address window error default search

I am marking this solved, because I found I could remove the ISP's default search by using a link at the bottom of that search-page. Thanks to TSG for other past assistance.

A:Default Search Provider

A bit confusing. Your OS is listed as XP which is not compatible with IE9. Do you have a different OS? If so report here and in the meantime, disable the mentioned toolbar. The redirect is sending you to the wrong place. It's not a screen saver issue.

EDIT: Moved to Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs ~~ boopmeI need help getting rid of the search provider default message which says a program has corrupted my search provider setting for Internet Explorer. This computer is using Vista and IE 8.The machine has been infected since 02/13 which is the day that the normal template for Word was set to read only. I have tried many things such as locating all files last modified on 02/13/2012 and ensuring that they are now not read only. In some cases I renamed them in addition to changing their attributes. I did this by using the cmd command, positioning myself in the users\CurrentUser directory, and then entering the command dir /s >f:\dirlist.txt to pipe the results to my thumb drive, and from there I used notepad’s find command to look for the 02/13/2012 modified files. I have gone into regedit, and modified entries in scopes, and in user preferences, basing them on other machines that I have access too. I have used Windows update to go between IE 7, 8, and 9. When using IE 7, I do not have a problem with the default search provider.I ran hijackthis, but I don’t know how to interpret the log as shown below. Using IE8. Every time I click on the icon to open, I get a popup that says that a program on my computer has suggested a new default search provider for Internet Explorer. The choices are change to Google (indicating this is a new setting suggested by the program) or keep using Bing (saying this is my current setting). No matter what choice I make, as soon as I click on it, IE8 closes.

I'm currently using my laptop as I don't know how to access the internet any other way except through IE8 (mozilla is not downloaded).

I'm desperate for help since I use my PC for work. I'm guessing perhaps there is a virus causing the problem so don't want to spread a virus through work.

Hi, experts,

I got default-search.net when downloading from a large reputable download site which I thought was a safe bet. Wrong.
My antivirus picked up about 20 problems (the laptop was going mad with its AVG dings advising of a detection. I got AVG to clean up those problems. However, the laptop was running very slowly, so I investigated and deleted the program that I had just installed. Using Iorbit uninstaller, I deleted the program but just at the end of the uninstall process (and before the Iorbit could run its advanced uninstall to make sure that no pieces of the install were remaining in the registry, the program froze and that process was not completed.

I then noticed that default-search.net was had become my default search engine. So I then ran MalwareBytes. This removed the problem but on reboot D-F.net was back again. Then I went into my Firefox profile and found an entry for D-S.net and deleted the line. All was perfect until a reboot. I then installed Spybot but that has not found D-S.net.

What file is re-activating D-S.net in my Firefox browserand how do I remove it?

Long before this, I de-activated MS Internet Explorer as I do not use it - unfortunately you can't delete it as it is part of the Windows system.

Many thanks in advance.

A Program on your computer has corrupted your default search setting for Internet Explorer.
Internet Explorer has reset this setting to your original search provider.
Internet Explorer will now open Search Settings, where you can change this setting or install more search providers.
All the fixes I've found are for XP or other Windows versions that are not 7. In particular there are many about adding certain keys into the Registry, but they already exist in 7, either identically or with the same name but slightly different data. So it's NOT those keys, or lack thereof, causing this error message and the impossibility of changing or deleting the default search provider in IE8 on Windows 7.

So, does anyone have a cure for this that's specific to Windows 7? I've looked on many other forums and people keep replying with useless fixes for XP, or they mention using things like Group Policy Editor that *might work*, if only the Home versions of Windows 7 had that available.
I have a client with 7 Home Premium having this problem. It's not happy making, not a bit.

Whenever we go to IE, the above error message shows up, and in the error box is:

A program on your computer has corrupted your default search provider setting for Internet Explorer. Internet Explorer has reset this setting to your original search provider, Bing (www.bing.com). Internet Explorer will now open Search Settings, where you can change this setting or install more search providers.

I click OK and it takes me to the "Manage Search Providers". I've tried different things - adding a different search provider, enable, disable, set as default - nothing changes, I continue to get the same error message the next time I open IE.

The error message says "A program on your computer has corrupted..." What program could that be, and what can I do to correct the situation?

We have Windows XP.

14 May 2014 I did an auto d/l of Adobe and then Bing Search Bar showed up in both Firefox and Chrome. There is nothing in add-ons to disable, nor in Control Panel to uninstall. I've changed the search page default but Bing keeps taking over. It's probably taken over IE too but I never use that unless absolutely necessary. A:trying to remove Bing Search bar in Firefox and Chrome

If you can find something called Search Protect in your list of programs, uninstall it.
If no luck,
For Google Chrome, you'll have to manually remove those "globally" installed extensions.

Here's how:

http://www.howtogeek.com/140464/how-...ome-extension/

Some may need to be removed from the registry, others, from Chrome’s extension folders.

For Firefox,

Press the Windows key + R to open a Run box.

Copy/paste the following command:

%APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

Press Enter.

Open the searchplugins folder.

Delete the xml file(s) related to Bing.

If still no luck,
Please download AdwCleaner.
Double-click the adwcleaner.exe to run the tool.
Click Scan.
When the scan is finished, click Clean.
When the cleaning process is over, click Report and a Notepad window will be opened.
Please post the contents here in your topic.

Hi,

I can't seem to remove Baidu search from the list of search providers in the IE8 search box. After removing it, it comes back when I restart IE8.

In addition, I get the popup with "A program on your computer has suggested a new default search provider for Internet Explorer" (Baidu) a few second after starting IE8.

I also noticed that typing a random string into the URL box brings up a Baidu auto-search, even if auto-search is disabled. (Internet Options->Advanced->"do not submit unknown searches to your auto-search provider" is set).

MalwareBytes v1.46 does not find anything.

Thanks,

The problem is any search website comes up with page can't be found: Google.com, Bing.com, Yahoo.com comes up but when I try a search it does nothing. I have no issues going to any other website, just search websites.

I have a laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit with AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 2011 and no third party firewall.

AVG scan is clean. Malwarebytes scan is clean. Ccleaner has been run. I have reset IE 8 settings to default. I have flushed the DNS. I have run HiJackThis and don't see any problems. I have checked the host file and there are no strange entries.

I need to know what to try next. Any help or direction would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Is there anyway to restore the IE error one, the server not found or something i have forgotten what it looks like.

about a month ago I installed AOL AIM and now when I type a key word in to the address bar of firefox, it searches with AIM. I changed the the about:config page back to what it was beforehand, however nothing happend. Is there something that I'm missing.

A:Default search in Firefox

Type about:config in Firefox location bar and press Enter
Type keyword in Filter textbox
Double-click on "keyword.URL" and change the value to:

http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=navclient&gfns=1&q=

and if that doesnt work try:

http://www.google.com/search?btnI=I'm+Feeling+Lucky&q=

if you want to just go to the first page returned for the search

edit- if you type "browser.search" into the filter you will also find some settings that may need to be changed like "browser.search.defaultenginename" , "browser.search.defaulturl"

My preferred browser is Firefox and I have been using FF 4.0 beta 7 for a number of weeks.

Instead of going to google to search for a site, FF was set up to search directly from the address bar, so I could type BBC and it would take me straight to google with results shown for BBC.

For some reason, if I do it now something strange happens.

I get a screen with what appear to be search results, but they are in german. The title in the tab is "suchen sie" and the results bear no resemblance to BBC. If it helps I can post a screenshot but will wait until told to do so, if necessary.

Also, if I visit any sites with google ads on the page somewhere, they are always in German.

I have looked around to see if this PC is set up as though I am in Germany (which I'm not) and have been lead to believe that this may be a DNS error.

Any thoughts or suggestions???
P.S. I have recently had a problem where my browser was hijacked and I was getting google redirects. I have pretty much finished the cleanup but this issue (with the German page) is still happening. I would have posted this as part of my other thread but believe it is a separate issue, due to it happening a long time before the redirects.

OK, this is driving me crazy. I hate having my typos redirected to search pages. I have always hated searches being run automatically without my express consent. And for all the crap that goes with IE, at least you had the option to disable the search from the address bar.

I also tried to disable the search suggestions (for when you actually are in a search window) by changing browser.search.suggest.enabled to false, but even after restarting FF the search suggestions still pop up.

Here's what I am looking for: when I type something into a box, I want NOTHING to pop up with any suggestions. I am not an 80-year old AOL user. I can type. I don't need a list of suggestions after every letter I add to my search string or URL. It's f-ing irritating.

I went through all config settings under the "search" filter and tweaked them where I thought it might help (e.g. removing entries for defaultenginename, order.1, order.2), but nothing worked.

Using "browser" as the filter, there are several more instances of google that show up under these:

browser.contentHandlers
browser.safebrowsing

So that looks promising, but I don't want to go messing around blind with too many settings.

Can someone please tell me how to disable all automatic searches and pop up search suggestions in FF (2.0.0.17, running on XP Home)?? I went to the FF forum, but the search disable entries I found there were all for pre-release beta-versions of 3.0.

Thanks.

I am having problems with my firefox default search engine. Everytime I switch it to google, it reverts back to Bing if I restart my computer or my browser.

I have been able to fix the problem temporarily by following the steps below, however after a restart it reverts:

Step1: Type "about:config" into the url address bar.

Step2: Type "keyword.url"

Step3: Change the current setting (http://search.conduit.com/ResultsExt.aspx?ctid=CT2504091&SearchSource=2&q=) to google (http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=utf-8&q=)

This works great until I restart, and then it goes back to search.conduit.com I have the latest version of firefox 14.1 and windows 7. Is there another place I need to change this setting?

A:Firefox Default Search Engine Keeps Reverting

I have discovered the problem was due to a hidden toolbar I had no idea was installed. It is the Vuze Conduit toolbar. Once I uninstalled vuze and the firefox extension for the toolbar my problem was solved.

Running FF v3.0.5 on Vista and whenever I type in anything into the address bar to search for stuff it brings up the results in the AOL search engine. It's really annoying, can someone tell me how to change it to Google instead please?

I wouldn't mind it so much if it weren't ask.com. I find it rather annoying. I tried to find something to change the settings, but cant find something to control it.

So anyone have an idea? I also tried to load Google's chrome OS on it, but it fails to install on the computer. I've scoured this machine with an antivirus program Webroot. but no improvement.

So anyone have any ideas to help the situation?

Solutions I've seen involve using a firefox add-on "no-script" or make an exception for cookies from google.

Ok, for some reason, whenever I type something into the address bar and hit enter (for example "wikipedia"), instead of going to google which will try to guess the domain and then automatically redirecting to wikipedia.com, my searches get redirected to google.co.in. It's very annoying. I went to about:config a million times and reset the keyword.url value to the original

but whenever I exit out of firefox, this value is reset to

http://www.google.co.in/search?hl=en&q=

Please help

A:firefox keeps automatically changing default search engine

When Firefox exits, if the pref isn't saved it'll revert to the previous setting. For whatever reason, your changes in about:config don't seem to be saving.

Try resetting the pref from the prefs.js file in your profile folder:-

Close Firefox.

Go to your profile folder (windows) Documents and Settings > *Your User Name* > Application Data > Mozilla > Firefox > Profiles > *Your Profile Name* > prefs.js

Open the file with Notepad, look for the pref and change the default url to the one you want. Exit and save the file.

Restart Firefox.

Hopefully, that should do it.

As most of you are probably aware, when you type something into Firefox's address bar without the prefix and suffix (I'm not sure what the technical term is) parts attached, by default you get redirected through Google, specifically http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-...ient&gfns=1&q=.

Recently, when I type something in, I get redirected instead to http://www.wsearch.net/?_inv. For instance, if I were to type in "techsupportforum", here's what happens (I recorded the status bar using Capture Me):

Hi,

A brief history of my problem:

Just this week I noticed that when I clicked on a search item from google in firefox I would get redirected to this website:

http://69.50.189.186/c.php?c=283294bfcd829673cf10e08611a6a084&mk=MC41NzU1&id=1&zp={CAD9A8F7-B26E-4DD9-9A9A-F4CE85520C4D}&alg=0

At first I thought it was a firefox problem so I uninstalled firefox and re-installed it. The problem went away, but only for the duration of my computer session. It came back the next day after I restarted my computer. I've run various spyware removers (ad-adware, spybot, spyware doctor and super antispyware). The only one that found a DNSChanger or soemthing similar (sorry I forgot the exact name) was spyware doctor. I thought I had fixed the problem but it persisted. Repeat scanning with all of the above returned clean result other than some tracking cookies.

I am across a thread on this forum with something similar so I went ahead and tried to do the same.

I ran super antispyware in safe mode and this is the log. It looks clean but I still have the problem. I am at a complete loss. Any help will be much appreciated!
