Zoom feature in 'Filmstrip' of My Pictures?

Q: Zoom feature in 'Filmstrip' of My Pictures?

I've been using XP Pro for a few years now. However, on my last re-install I left off ACDSee and was just going to use XP's own settings for viewing photos. I'm now using SP2.

I was certain that in the 'filmstrip' setting for photos there was a 'Zoom IN/OUT' option - am I wrong? I only have 4 buttons for:-

Previous Image
Next Image
Rotate Clockwise
Rotate Counter Clockwise

I'm using TweakUI + TweakXP Pro 4, I've checked everywhere but I can't find anywhere that the zoom option has been unchecked? Is it there or can I enable it somehow?

Preferred Solution: Zoom feature in 'Filmstrip' of My Pictures?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Zoom feature in 'Filmstrip' of My Pictures?

I found this site:-

It states here that:-

Another new WindowsXP applet is the Picture & Fax Viewer. To view files as you would in a slide show, just right-click on any graphics file and select "Preview". The Viewer applet will open and the controls at the bottom allow you to navigate, zoom, copy, etc. This is a very quick and useful feature that is always available in Windows Explorer.

Sure enough, all the icons that I'm sure were always there appear in this window *but* I would like them there ALL the time when viewing in filmstrip mode - is it something simple I'm overlooking here?

On windows 7 laptop we have  has zoom feature on bottom of page, print size never changes. On this desktop window 7 zoom is on tool bar print size changes every time you go to another page.Anyway to keep it all the same, this desktop is new, mabee something has to be set. Thanks, Paul

First of all - Welcome to BC !
Can you give some details of these computers - make, model and so on - it gives us something to go on.
When you say 'the bottom of the page', do you mean the task bar on the desktop, or at the bottom inside one application or another?  I am not familiar with a zoom control on the task bar but a lot of applications, from image viewers through graphics software to MS Office, have a zoom function. But this almost always uniformly expands or shrinks the complete page, text and everything included. And, more to the point, the zoom control goes wherever the designer of the software decided to put it.

A:zoom feature in movie player??

because i hate letterbox/black bars!

I believe you're talking about aspect ratio, not zoom. Most players have a place to set the aspect ratio, and some codecs have aspect ratio settings. On standard TV's and monitors, generally you use a 4:3 aspect ratio, on widescreens generally you use 16:9.
There are also different stretch settings offered by different software packages. Cyberlink PowerDVD offers CLPV stretching while other software packages have different pixel stretching or doubling techniques, these stretching techniques can have a large impact on the video viewing quality.

I bought a E520. I am not liking the touchpad on this thing. It hangs up and does not respond a lot of times. The biggest thing that irks me is that my screen will zoom in and out when I run my finger along the touchpad or when tapping it. I know you can use the "pinch" with two fingers to zoom in and out but mine will zoom with just a tap of one finger. Someone must know how to disable the zoom feature. Can you describe in detail to me how to do that? I called Lenovo support about it and the guy said it might be a software or hardware problem and told me to take it into a repair facility. There must be a way in settings to turn that off. I just want the touchpad to work normally, as in move the cursor around.. thats it, nothing more. Can someone help me with this??

I have an HP dv3 laptop with a synaptics touchpad. Swiping the left edge of the touch pad causes programs which have a zoom capability to zoom in and out. There is no documentation from HP or Synaptics or Microsoft that I have been able to find which even acknowledges that this feature even exists. I would like to turn the feature off because I keep activating it by accident, but I cannot find a setting anywhere. Perhaps there is a registry setting I can change?

A:Want to disable left edge zoom feature

Some additional information: the pointer becomes the crossed lines with arrows that I associate with Move during the swipe and then after the release the shrinking circle occurs as if I had pressed the CTRL key to locate the cursor. The advertised way of doing a zoom with the keypad is to hold the CTRL key and swipe the right edge.

Within my, "My Pictures" folder I have a great many sub folders containing thousands of pictures. In all but a couple of folders is the option to view as a filmstrip (which I prefer).
However there is a folder (within "My Pictures") that I'm using now that doesn't have that option!
Does anyone know why, not all folders in "MY PICTURES", has the option for filmstrip?

A:Filmstrip issue within "My Pictures" folder

You can set folders to store diffrent kinds of files in diffrent manners e.g for music, photos, documents and videos.

If you right click the folder you want to filmstrip it should bring up a window with three tabs, click the tab which says customize, click the folder template bit which should be near the top of the window and change it from documents to either 'pictures' or 'photo album'.

Also if you want all the folders in the pictures folder to be the same click the 'apply template to all sub folders'

That should have sorted it but pm me or reply if not.

Well, when I zoom in the Windows Photo Gallery pictures gets pixelated instead of "smoothed" out like in XPs Photo and Fax Viewer. Kind of annoying.

Anyone know howto fix it?

Added a picture to show what I mean by pixelated.

A:Pictures gets "pixelated" when I zoom in.

Hi Stigern and welcome to Vista Forums

This is perfectly normal. Take a look at the following images. The second image is a magnified section of the first. No further editing other than zooming has taken place.
Notice how the head and upper body area of the animal is pixelated. Magnification actually involves a principle known as the Inverse Square Law - see: Inverse-square law - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Using the diagram as an example, with S representing the pixel and r, 2r, and 3r representing the level of magnification, it can be seen that r equates to normal size (1:1). 2r is a doubling in size (2:1) and it can be seen that each pixel is now represented by 4 (don't forget that the doubling occurs both horizontally as well as vertically). Likewise, 3r is a trebling of the original size (3:1), and the original pixel is now represented by 9 pixels.

Looks like your "thumbs.db" files may be corrupted.

Close out all of your Windows Explorer windows, and then do a search for "thumbs.db". When the search is complete, just delete all of these files.

Then go back to your pictures folder and XP will automatically recreate the thumbs.db files as needed.

JPG thumbs are not displayed properly in explorer - an icon is there but no photo.

The filmstrip mode displays only a line of thumbs at the top of the screen (instead of the bottom) and no large photo.

This problem occurs for ALL directories with JPGs - they were all working a couple of weeks ago. The thumbs db exists, and when I delete it, it reappears but still does not display anything.

The videos (AVI) that are amongst the photos DO display as thumbs. When I access the same jpgs from my laptop across the network, the thumbs are displayed.

I am running XP and photos are in various directories on the system disk and an external hard drive - all directories have the same problem.

This is a problem that has plagued me (and others no doubt) for years. Suddenly XP will decide to show one of my root folders (e.g. C:\ or D:\) in filmstrip view and there is a little 'photo watermark' in the bottom right-hand corner to show that the whole drive/partition has been customised for photos. This not only looks absurd but also causes folders to hang when you try to open them.

Does anyone know how to correct this? I know I can delete the following keys in the registry:

I've done some tweaks to my XP for optimum audio performance so everything is nice and simple i.e. nothing running in the background that may make the system slow down. I followed the steps in a guide, some of it was too technical for me to remember but it does mean that there would be less bottlenecks when trying to use the system for editing/producing audio, (thats basically the reason why i got the system, for audio production).

Now i just noticed in my folders the filmstrip option is gone (its simple menus too, very blocky and grey, oldstyle.. which I'm cool with) which is a shame because i use that option now and again for viewing the thumbnails of pics in folders in a large view, and rotating pics that i took, without having to open any paint package, theres an option within the filmstrip to take care of the rotate which is very handy.

How can i get this option back?

A:Viewing folder contents, want filmstrip back

Click Apply and OK

I need to know how to save the pictures in the My Pictures folder to CD. I am going to format and reinstall XP Home and if I do, I will lose these pictures unless I save them. Thanks in advance.

XP has built in cd-burnig capabilities. You should just be able to put a blank disk in and drag and drop your files over.
