New Power Plan in version 1803 (OS build 17134.48)

Q: New Power Plan in version 1803 (OS build 17134.48)

A new setting you can put in your system IF you are running 1803 (OS build 17134.48) is the "Ultimate Performance" plan. Open up powershell (as administrator) and type the command:

powercfg -duplicatescheme e9a42b02-d5df-448d-aa00-03f14749eb61

Go into settings, system, power and sleep, select "additional power settings" under "related settings" and you now should have "Ultimate Performance" as a selection. This will only work if running this version of windows. Type "winver" in the search box to check what version you are running, first. This is for "higher end PCs"

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,
I have a recent DELL laptop:
Inspiron 7000 (Inspiron 17 7778 2-in-1),
Core i7, 16 Gb RAM, 128 GB SSD + 1TB HD...
Not a lot of programs and lots of space available.
In the last few months I have had a lot of poor performance issues. I finally figured out it is related to Windows 10 Power Plan. When set to "Power Saver", the performance is awful. The CPU is maxed to 0.80 GHz. So when browsing the net or looking at my picture gallery, the computer hangs, and it becomes impossible to use. If I change the plan to high performance, the computer behaves normally - fast!
And even if I change the plan to another plan (i.e. High Perf), the next time I restart or wake-up the computer, the "Power Saver" power plan is set back... Very frustrating. And as shows the image, it is not the "bolded" option in the list. What can be changing constantly that parameter??
I contacted DELL chat support and they asked me to re-install Windows! There is probably a better way to fix this. It looks to me as a DELL Driver conflicting with Windows. Also, my mother has an older DELL laptop on Windows 10 and she experiences the same issue...
Any help would be very appreciated!
Cheers,
Jean-Daniel

Hi,

Yesterday evening, I've shut down my computer and it started to install updates but didn't finish the installation. This morning I start my computer and noticed that my computer still had some updates to install so I tried to do it again with the HP support assistant but it stopped again before preparing action list. So I did some research about this update on the web and found some information on this link :

It seems that this update has some serious issues so now I don't know what to do... Does anybody know what is going on with his new update and if I should install it and download it directly from Microsoft website?...

Guys,

There are reports, including with my PC that Microsoft Edge opens up to a Help Page upon start up of a PC running build 1803. It is a help page for Windows. This also affected me. I haven't done the boot from shutdown yet where this was happening. (I don't think.) However, what I did change in Windows 10 was Notifications: (Go to Cortana/Search and type Notifications in the Search box.)

1.) I turned off Windows Tips in Notifications
2.) I also turned off the "Show me the Windows Experience after Updates and what's new." and that turned off the issue with MS Edge opening up to the Help Menu upon restart.

I also reported this in the Feedback Hub, and other Windows 10 users should do the same.

Guys,

Found the answer to what I was seeking! If you don't want things like Cortona to remember your searches, or your Microsoft Account activities, do the following:

1.) In the search box type "Privacy" (No quotes)
2.) In The General Settings go to Privacy Settings
3.) Go to Activity History, and there are a lot of things you can clear and uncheck about the information and searches on your computer. Very helpful!

Windows 10 auto updated to Version 1803 on my Ideapad Yoga 13.  Since then I have no wi-fi connectivity.  I have tried the following. I have the Realtek chipset.  Realtek RTL723AU Wireless LAN 802.11a USB network driver.  Driver Version 1027.4.630.2015 Tried updating the driver but I get the message that this is the latest driver.  However, the date on this driver is from 2015 so I am suspicious. Moving to three different wireless networks results in the same problem.  All other computers and devices on this network are functioning properly. If I run Windows Network Diagnostics I eventually get the error message "Wi-fi" doesn't have a valid IP configuration". Tried "netsh winsock reset" and then "netsh int ip reset" from Windows PowerShell running as Admin and then rebooting.  Does not fix. Tried releasing and renewing IP addresses but got errors message "No operation can be performed on Local Area Connection* X while it has its media disconnected" and well as Media State........Media disconnected. I've set the IP address manually and that didn't work. Any more ideas to try? Thanks!

Windows still uses Microsoft made "Generic Mobile Broadband" driver, even after installing the Fibocom L830-EB Wireless WAN Dreiver For Windows 10 (Versio 1709 or later).  This ends in only giving a 50 mbps LTE connection even if the location, sim card and subscription gives 300 mps connection possibillities.   Windows only sees the generic driver, even if I manually try to choose a driver for this. No Fibocom drivers are found in the list.  Is there something that got broken during the latest 1803 installation? Has anyone else noticed this?

I have heard of some people getting beyond that error by using the Microsoft Media Creation Tool to create version 1803 installation media on a USB or DVD, and then running the upgrade successfully, but that said, I have also heard that Microsoft has disovered some serious issues with 1803 on laptops that have hybrid video cards (Intel HD and Nvidia discreet etc) and systems with Intel NVMe SSD's, so Microsoft may be pulling back on upgrading those systems until it can iron those problems out, so I personally would wait a bit if either apply.  Cheers,

I overclock my CPU by changing its FSB and I have scheduled (Task Scheduler) this script to run every time I logon to Windows. But I would like to schedule it to downclock when I pull the power cord and then overclock as I plug it back in. Is this possible? It would also be nice if Windows changed the power plan when switching between AC/battery.

Hello Apex,

I'm not sure it's possible to have Windows change power plans automatically like that.

However, if you like, you could use either tutorial below to help make it easier to manually switch between power plans whenever you like.Power Plan - Choose from Desktop Context Menu in Windows

Power Plan - Create Shortcut to Change Power Plan
Hope this helps some,

Hi,

I recently had graphics card problems and had to get my 8800GTS replaced. This took several weeks and now I'm running a 8800GT perfectly fine.

However, I've noticed my Power Options seem to be corrupt. Upon going into Power Options in the Control Panel, it says "Your power plan information isn't available."

I cannot understand why this has happened. I haven't touched any settings or anything to do with that. I have tried System Restore to an earlier point (before I got my new graphics card) and it didn't seem to help.

The help on the page says that registry keys may have become corrupt or been deleted. I'm not sure if this is the problem, but if it is how can I fix it? System Restore didn't help.

I would like to avoid doing a Repair with the Windows disc. I'm hoping there's an easier way to fix this problem. There has to be! I've been looking on Google and there is hardly anything on this problem. The very few people who do have it cannot seem to fix it, or used previous registry backups (which hasn't worked for me). There doesn't seem to be any resolutions from Microsoft at all.

I also tried using the "powercfg" commands in the command prompt, but didn't seem to have any luck there either.

I'll really appreciate any assistance! I cannot Hibernate or Sleep at the moment and it's a real inconvenience. I'd really like my Power Options back!

Thank you very much,

Domsy

A:Power Options Corrupt (power plan unavailable)

Well, I'm quite amazed not a single person has replied (funny how my other problem has gone unanswered too). Guess I must have very uncommon problems!

I'm glad to say I've managed to fix it though. As described on a website somewhere, someone else managed to fix it by restoring the registry keys associated with it.

I decided to export the ones on my mum's laptop, delete mine, and then import her's to mine. It seems to be working fine! All Power Options are back, I can change how my PC shuts down, and I can Sleep now! And this was all without a restart. I'm guessing I can Hibernate also; I'll find out when I want to turn my PC off later.

If anyone else has this problem and needs a copy of the registry keys, I can send you them (I believe they work regardless of the computer. I had concerns because it was a laptop, but it seems fine). I'd rather not post them publicly as I am not sure of the sensitivity of them.

I am currently gearing up to build my own PC and I was wondering if anyone would offer suggestions and/or criticisms.
I have a budget that is a bit fluid but not excessive.
I am what I would consider a hardcore gamer, play mostly MMO's and FPS games.
Anyway, enough of the boring stuff, lets get down to brass tacks.

I already received my motherboard, the Abit AN9 32x.
I also have my CPU, the AMD 64 x2 6000
I will be adding an additional WD 150g Raptor to the one from my old system and configuring for raid 0 with an external SATA drive for backups and what nots.
I will be going to the local Fryes for the Patriot 2g ddr2 pc2-6400 low latency extreme memory. I assume that ordering memory online would be a bit silly since it would be hard to make a return if it was bad.

The one place I think I run into quicksand is on the video card. For my budget and with the mobo I have ordered it would look to me that running two nVidia 8800gts 320mb boards in sli would be the better, most cost effective idea. Spending more for the gts 640 or the monster gtx/gtx ultra would wipe out what I have set aside for a LCD monitor. This is under the assumption that I would order two cards.
Is 2 320mb 8800gts cards in sli viable or would I be better off running one monster video card?
To be honest, I really want to see what this sli is all about.

Thanks ahead and, please, be gentle!

The only game I play is EVE online, but sometimes I might want to run that on one display while having lots of that other stuff going as well. Time to open documents and swap applications is important. I want it to be quiet because I sit next to it 13-18 hours a day!
Budget: I don?t want to waste money but I?m not highly price sensitive. If you have a suggestion that will make me feel a dramatic improvement and it costs $1,000 I would probably do it. This is a great organized post with good links and citations, thanks .
I would go with the OCZ Vertex series (NO OTHER SERIES WILL DO!) as long as the price difference between the Intel is over $20 - $50, and 80gb is enough for the OS, text/offices files, and microsoft office, but i don't know about Solidworks and a Microchip CAD, I might go with the OCZ Vertex Series OCZSSD2-1VTX120G 2.5" 120GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid state disk (SSD) - Retail for $400, maybe.

A corei7 is pretty ridiculous for Microsoft office and a game, though again i don't know about Solidworks or Microchip CAD. Corei7 is for demanding applications, mostly video editing. I can almost guaranty an inexpensive dual core will perform better when overclocked at a fraction of the cost, and with less heat output.

Good reasoning, though I would still stay away from Corei7 because they are so expensive, the motherboard you linked is actually about $300.

Graphics cards: I run 3 LCD panels but my only game is EVE Online, so not exactly the most demanding. I'll probably just order a couple of whatever is recommended for Solidworks and EVE.Click to expand...

Not only are older cards more expenive with less performance, but it may not even fit.

Trying to rollback to previous version, problem still exists. Not even clear if it did restore, although I can see now it is version 1709 it also says version 1803 is successfully installed, so it clearly doesn't do a full restore to the previous version (in
that case my Bluetooth would still wok also!)
System restore keeps failing.
Is there any solution for this? Or need to do a full reset of windows, and force to disable windows updates?

My laptop no longer gives me warnings when the battery is about to run out. I have been through the control panel settings, and the power warning is set to be on already in all power plans. What should I look to do next?

Also, today I noticed a new power plan - CyberLink Power Management - has appeared in my power plan options. This is not something I knowingly installed onto my computer. I have recently installed some Windows Updates, so I'm wondering could it be from one of them? Alternately, should I be worried about malware/etc?

From Windows 98SE/2000/XP SP3 I always set my power settings as always on/never shut down (hard drive always on) with the exception of turn off display after 10 mins. Both my PCs are on for about 16-20 hrs each day and I always shut them down manually every night.

Now in Windows 7, I created a custom plan that basically more or less similar to the above, always on/never shut down/never sleep, turn off hard drive after 10000 mins (basically never off) except to turn off display after 10 mins.........well, last night I thought of trying out the "Balanced" (recommended) plan....and after 30 mins of inactivity, both my PC were off/shut down and I had to press the power/on buttons on both my PCs to bring them back (cause clicking the mouse/pressing any key on the KB wouldn't bring them back), is this normal or the way the Balanced plan supposed to work?

What's your or how you set your Power Options/Power plan settings on your Windows 7?

Thanks in advance.

A:Power Options/Power plan settings?

Balanced does turn your hdd and things off after 30 minutes(put it to sleep). Just go in there and change all the sleep things to never, or set them to 0 minutes. After you select your new plan, make sure your screensaver is on as well.

As title suggests, what power plan do you normally use on Windows 8? Do you switch between power plans depending on the situation at hand?

I run Balanced most of the time, since my AMD CPU has Cool'N'Quiet technology, then switch over to High Performance when gaming.

A:What Power Plan do you use?

I start with balanced, but I customize for my needs. I don't let it sleep or power down the hard drives or hibernate, and I tweak the monitor poweroff settings. Other than that, I leave it as is.

A few months ago I purchased a Teclast X98 Air 3G tablet.
The tablet worked fine and the huge battery power was a breeze to work with.
Always loaded to the full 100%, I could use the tablet for nearly 8 hours.

Until 2 weeks ago, when Windows 10 installed an update.
Now, the tablet will not load the battery more than 50%.
Nothing broken, but the Windows "Power Settings" menu gives only 1 option.
"Balanced"
All the other options are gone.
There is an option to create a "New Power plan", but this option does not allow to change the battery charge level.

Can I get my old battery charge back?

TIA
