Lenovo G530 refused to boot

Q: Lenovo G530 refused to boot

I bought this system just 3 days ago though not brand new but it was working very perfectly, the system is running windows 8 pro n, I connected the system to the Internet and I was asked to update windows which I accepted and after the update, (some failed while some were successful) the system began misbehaving, the screen goes black while the system is on, I had to switch off the system and power it on again, the screen comes up but after some time goes black again, I tried some tricks I read online which seemed to work but later, the problem continued and the tricks stopped working, somehow, I managed to get the system running normally again n I thought maybe the failed updates is the problem, I selected the windows updates that failed n try to update again, the screen went black again, I turned the system off and tried to turn it on again but this time, it refuse to power on, when I hit the power on button, the power on light comes up and the fan tries to run and goes silent, the power on light goes off immediately, tried n tried n the same thing keep happening, hitting the power on button, the power on light comes up and after some seconds, goes off again, I took the system to an engineer, he said the system has board problem, I don't know how true is this Cus the system was running very well, all this problems started right after the windows update..... Please any help or suggestions would be highly appreciated Thank you All

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The community forums are probally not the best place to be looking for this kind of advice, as it is a universal computer thing, not limited to your computer. There are plenty of articles that will tell you what to do if you use google.None the less, unless you're willing to shell out some good money, just use Audacity. Its free, its easy to use, and your computer should be able to handle it.

Hey guys, Just fished an old G530 out of a closet and it's become my pet project. I've cleaned it up, installed some additional memory and Windows 10 x64. Having some issues with system's power, though. Initially the battery would not charge and the unit would only run on AC. After installing Windows 10, it now charges and can be used with out the AC adapter, but occasionally will shut down and refuse to turn back on. When it does this, the battery indicator flashes at me, so I can only assume this means it's died. It will do this at seemingly random battery levels, after a varying amount of time. I do not believe this is an overheating issue. Additionally, the charging cycle is almost 7 hours, and the unit dies in under 2. I have tried multiple batteries. I would like ot update the BiOS to 1.10 from 1.09, but I cannot find the unit listed as it is no longer supported. Any help or advice is appreciated, thanks!

My laptop had screen flickering problem. I used to rectify same by slapping gently at top of it or by moving lid front and back. I was doing same and whole screen went off. When i went to repair shop he said motherboard issue is there 1500 rupees will be charged and asked to came in evening. He called me in afternoon and said your laptop has been rectified but display is too dim, when i installed FL (about 3-4 inches long strip which gives power to lcd) and it worked perfect and asked that 500 more will be charged for same. I said ok. When i went to shop it was working fine. I paid 2000 and took laptop home. When i opened it and started, i was shocked that there was no power in lcd, however laptop was working. I opened back cover of screen and tried touching FL connectors, nothing worked. I went back and told him, he installed new FL and again it did not work. He said lcd cable is faulty. He tried finding same and after few days said, it is not found. I took my laptop back along with 500 rupees for FL. Installed old FL again and ordered lcd cable online. Today, i installed cable on my own but lcd still not showing light, however laptop is working and shows too dim display. What is faulty???

I have a Lenovo G530 laptop that has an issue with screen flicker that is getting worse. The computer screen will start going thru a crazy screen flicker then will stop and start again. I have already checked cable connection to lcd on motherboard and reseated connection of lcd to motherboard located under the keyboard as someone suggested in another posting I found online that resolved issue for them. I am starting to think it might be a bad inverter or screen because I have hooked up laptop to external monitor and it is running fine with no flickering happening when the flickering is occurring on laptop. I am attaching a link to a small video I shot of the issue as it is occurring on laptop screen. Does anyone have any further suggestions? Bad inverter or screen? Screen flicker vid

"Bad inverter or screen?" Yes, most likely. But which one? Cutting in and out like that, I have not seen.My thinking is the inverter is cheaper, so I try that first. It is still possible that the cable is faulty, though. Not much help, I know.

Although there are two languages and several keyboard layouts in Belgium you would probably have a French Belgian keyboard.

Control panel > regional and language > keyboards and languages > general > installed services > add > and select either Belgian Comma or Belgium French as matches your keyboard.

Then remove the prior inappropriate entry(ies) and OK your way out.

Hey there guys and gals, I have a Lenovo Laptop 3000 series G530 (18 months old) and it causing me a few problems because it's extremely slow and almost always unresponsive to anything I do (webpages on most occasions are taking 30 - 40 minutes to load, Although here it only take 10 - 20 seconds :P).

Anyway I located a .VHD file and tried to use that restore it's previous state from last november (just before I returned it too the microsoft engineer who said he had fixed it when he hadn't (naughty engineer ), Anyway I managed to fix it myself that time round.

So I was posting in one of the threads here earlier about opening the .vhd file to access the windows file's before they became unresponsive (or whatever you want to call it ) and it turn's out that the .vhd file may be from just after the engineer tried to fix it or just before (not too sure it was the same day though ), Anywho I wanted to know how to do a factory restore on the computer without having the installation disc (and apparently no product key on the sticker below the battery on the bottom of the laptop, It's worn away so it's unreadable).

A:Lenovo G530 laptop monitor randomly goes black

Hi Oolee,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums.

Did you try booting from safe mood? There is also a chances, if your cables are intact and not loose (VGA Cable), or the monitor loses power.

Please go through this HMM for hardware assistance.

Method 1:
Any external hardware can cause this (like a keyboard or mouse can cause system to sleep to save the power) 1. To change this go to ?MANAGE? by right clicking on the ?MY COMPUTER ? icon on the desktop . 2. Go to DEVICE MANAGER. 3. Click on the keyboard or mouse or any other USB devices and right click on them and go to PROPERTIES and select POWER MANAGEMENT and untick the appropriate box.

Method 2:
Control panel > Power options >Choose when to turn off the display (look for this in the side bar)  Set ?TURN OFF THE DISPLAY? to NEVER Set ?PUT THE COMPUTER TO SLEEP? to NEVER. And then continue to ?Change advanced power settings? Go to "SLEEP" Set "SLEEP AFTER" to NEVER. Set ?ALLOW HYBRID SLEEP? to OFF. Set ?HIBERNATE AFTER? to NEVER. Go to ?DISPLAY? Set ?TURN OFF DISPLAY AFTER ?to NEVER. Press APPLY and then OK.

Let us know how you get on.

I blew away the Vista that came with this laptop, and installed W7 Pro. Got everything to work except the touchpad. I tried several different drivers from Lenovo and elsewhere, compatibility mode, but no help. What Lenovo lists as W7 are actually the old Vista drivers.

I even tried Lenovo's suggestion of pullling the battery and holding down start for 20 seconds (?). Again, no help.

Hello.

I had my A8N-SLI for a while.

All is well.

Problem =

I picked up my dad's SB LIVE 5.1 PCI card and installed it.

Suddenly it won't boot up to BIOS. Zip, Nada, nothing.

Took it off. Boot was all right, but boot slowly.

I restart it few times to vertify. Guess what? It went south.

The power is still working, CPU / nforce chip and Video card are warm.

Any idea to bring it back ?

I'm running on A8N-SLI SE and would like to have my A8N-SLI back, due to Firewire and extra network.

P.S. I checked the board, there is no bludged capacitors, fryed wires on PCB or any visible damages. I realized after it caused some damages on my P4S533 board. It went south too. The SB was damaged.

I'm trying to install a new OS into the notebook (Toshiba NB505-508GN). It doesn't help that I forgot the password to log in. (I tried booting in Safe Mode, it doesn't do that either. The only 2 modes are "Fast" and "Normal." It is set for Normal.)

I formatted a USB with a reset software, Ophrac or something. The thumb drive, even though it showed up in the port, and I chose it, then saved and exited, at boot-up it went right into the normal sequence of booting.

Same exact thing with the installed OS thumb drive. I tried all 3 ports, it made no difference. It's like having XP cemented into it, it's crazy.

Any ideas what else I can try, or what I might be doing wrong?

Could all 3 ports be malfunctioning? Do they need drivers installed? That's too bad because I can't get into it the machine to do that.

========

Also, in the Set-up I was able to create new passwords, for User, Superuser, and HDD/SDD. None of these passwords I created have any bearing on my login which is still a mystery. I tried all 3 passwords, none of them worked.

So, just to recap, the farthest I ever got in terms of changing anything is the Set-up menu. I am not really familiar with any of this and tried to figure it out the best I could, including that FDD is connected somehow to USB, but I am truly stumped now.

A:Old Toshiba notebook refused to boot from USB

Boot normally into Windows.

At the Welcome screen, press CTRL-ALT-DELETE and select Log On to Windows.

Enter Administrator for the User Name and leave the Password blank.

Once you're logged in as Administrator, you can reset passwords for any user on the system.

Ophrac is a password cracker...doesn't reset anything.

I just had a scary experience with my Toshiba A665-S6095 laptop. I had it running this morning and closed the lid, which hibernates it. About 3pm, I opened the lid and hit the power button, whereupon it gave me the "Windows did not close properly. . ." message. What? How? All I did was close the lid.

So anyway, I choose "Start Windows normally". Get blank screen with cursor blinking in upper left corner, but Windows does not boot. Disconnect power cord and removed battery. Waited 10 minutes. Put battery back in, inserted power cord. Turned on. When BIOS icon appeared, hit F2 to enter BIOS. Checked everything; all A-OK. Exit. Computer reboots and now loads Windows as usual.

What the he** caused the computer to (a) think that it had not closed properly when I shut the lid and (b) would not boot up until I went into the BIOS, but made no changes to it?

A:Toshiba laptop refused to boot after hibernation

It may have had an error after you closed the lid. Check Event viewer for errors around that time, or see if there was a memory dump.

If you have a non-WHQL driver, that can cause problems with sleep and hibernation operations. Anything new that installed a driver?

Hi everyone! Sorry for the long post.

ETA: TL;DR - Removed two infected files from laptop. Laptop went into standby and wouldn't recover. Hard reset, then hanging at welcome screen. After 5-10 minutes, blue screen flashes up and system repair screen came up. Ran system repair this morning, did not see what happened but worked after about 20 minutes. Now worried about cause of issue and wondering how to safely remove any infected files I have missed.

Background info:
Had to borrow the boyfriend's laptop last night. He never does any maintenance so when I hop on I run a full scan in Avast and defrag to keep things ticking over. A year ago he had a lot of viruses and crap installed so I cleaned things up as best I could and installed Avast.

Problem:
Ran a full scan in Avast late last night. Threw up two infected files, one trojan (Unknown [series of numbers starting with 8]) and something about an FLV player. Moved to chest and deleted. Sorry I'm hazy on the details, it was very late. Did a bit of web browsing and a few minutes after the scan was complete the battery died. Plugged it back in, it wouldn't come out of standby. Figured it was having a hissy fit because I plugged it in just as it was going off. Turned it off from power button, waited a few minutes for it to get some charge, turned it back on. Then the following happened:

The help I want is about the compatibility of this motherboard with this processor. I have a Lenovo Laptop G530 model 444625u. It is running a clean install of win 10 Pro. Sometimes at the start of the "power on" I get 3 or 4 beeps. They occur during the white Lenovo screen during the Bios startup. The beeps are loud and do not appear to be grouped together. They seem to be single beeps. Win 10 pro does start and everything appears to be working. Device manager does have 2 "System Base Unit" without software support but other than Blue tooth everything works. Sometimes when I power up there are no beeps. My battery only last for 30 min. off wall power.

I don't know what is causing these beeps. I tried to update the bios but the most current version was tested with Vista and it will not load even when run in admin mode.

Here are my questions:

How to I stop they Bios Beeps?
Do I need to update my Bios ? If so where can I find one tested for Win 10?
How can I get win 10 Blue tooth software for the G530?
How can I resolve the last "System Base Unit" software?

Any help would be appreciated.

Mod's Edit: System model added to the front of Subject line to improve visibility / clarity.

A:G530 - Bios Beeps

I'll see if I can answer some of your questions....

How to I stop they Bios Beeps?

Did the beeping start after the Windows 10 upgrade?  To rule out any conflicts with the BIOS try this...

1. Shut down Windows and unplug the charger / adapter. 2. Remove the battery. (If removable)3. Press and hold the Power Button for 15 seconds. 4. Re-install the battery, plug in the charger / adapter if needed and power up the system to see if the problem was resolved.

If you had the beeps prior to the Windows 10 upgrade then they maybe an indication of a hardware problem.  Possibly a piece of hardware such as a optical drive is slow in responding during power up when the system polls all the devices.

Do I need to update my Bios ?

No, if the machine was working good before the Windows 10 upgrade then there isn't a reason to do a BIOS update.  Even the latest BIOS version available for your model was created long before Windows 10 was even developed.

How can I get win 10 Blue tooth software for the G530?

There isn't any.  Try installing the Vista version in Compatibility Mode to see if that will resolve the problem.

How can I resolve the last "System Base Unit" software?

I assume that you are referring to the Unknowns in Windows Device Manager.  If so, these unknowns are most likely related to the Bluetooth driver not being installed.  Fix the driver problem and the unknowns will be fixed... Read more

Aggghh!  When I levered my faithful G530's CMOS battery from its tack-welded tabs, it shot across the desk and onto the floor before I could record which side of the battery had been "up".  Lenovo manuals - even a maintenance manual for a similar model - give no clue, and the tacks on each side of the battery are too similar to distinguish matching points on the tabs. Does anyone happen to know the battery orientation w.r.t. the side of the motherboard to which it had attached, or have access to such reference material? I would really prefer not to take a 50% chance on bricking the mobo. Thanks.

Hi All, Last tuesday when i tried to turn my laptop on, it did not.I Tried connecting power cable directly(without battery) still  did not start. then i tried to reset by pressing start button for longer, still nothing happened. Then staurday evening, i handed it to a local repair shop who told me that power controller is faulty and sent me this pic(Attached below) on whatsapp, stating this needs to be replaced. He charged 1500 rupees for same. Today evening i got my laptop back and it is working as well but as and when i remove power cord, it shuts down completely/suddenly as if there is no battery installed. Last time when i used my laptop everything was working fine. Before i handed him my laptop i also noticed that battery light was glowing orange, but was not turning blue(Battery full light) even after hours of charging and i also left it for overnight charging but the next day still it was showing orange light only. Now the battery shows 98% charging when i hover my mouse on battery icon and keeps on showing same, it is not increasing. and if i try to remove power cord, laptop goes off completely. So, is my battery faulty???? I am unable to find any friend with lenovo laptop so that i can check fault. I tried battery calibration but nothing happened. how my battery can suddenly stop working?????? if last time it worked perfect. one thing i did was i tried to keep pressing power button for longer so many times while trying to trouble shoot my laptop. Was that s... Read more

I have been gifted with a G530 Type 4446 laptop. I would like to upgrade the processor, as I have already upgraded the RAM to 4GB. Can someone please tell me what my options are as far as processors? I would like to get the fastest 64-bit processor for it that I can. Many thanks!

A:G530 Type 4446: Processor upgrade possibilities?

Good day and welcome to the community.

Normally, I would recommend that you look through your model's hardware manual, specifically the FRU parts listing, to see any possible options. In this case, I can find no hardware manual for the G530.I did find this thread, though: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-B-and-G-Series-Notebooks/G530-HMM/m-p/140371
which would indicate that the N500 manual is the best approximation available. The support site changed a while back, so the manual link in that thread no longer works. Please try this, instead: http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/45n3577_01.pdf
Starting on page 98, you'll see the listing of CPU options that were available/configurable at the time.

Apologies, but this is the best I can find.
Regards.

So everything has been working fine on my laptop until about 10:30PM EST tonight. I bought it new in August 2011.
Specs:

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium
CPU: Intel Core i7-2630QM @ 2.00 GHz
RAM: 8 GB
HD: 750 GB
BIOS: 45CN36WW

It's always been a fine machine with NO problems.
However, last night there were Windows 7 updates that were installed and then restarted my computer. I had not gotten a chance to check exactly what they were though. About 10:30 this evening, flash crashed in Mozilla Firefox which is not that uncommon, and from there Firefox closed, and so did my Microsoft Word and Excel apps that were open. From there, my computer began to shut down and restart. When it went to restart, all it could do was go to the opening Lenovo screen which gives you the F2 (setup option) and F12 (multiboot menu option) as it typically does. Besides a thin strip at the top that appeared after about 30 secs that only displays moving static that eventually will just stick, that is where the boot process ends. No Windows 7 screen, and certainly no opportunity to boot into safe mode to check for any problems. The screen freezes and goes nowhere.

So basically, all I'm getting in terms of boot options are lenovo features, not windows 7 features, meaning it won't boot into windows 7 or windows 7 safe mode no matter what I try. The biggest problem here is that I have no windows 7 disc to even try to boot from my dvd drive.

Anybody have any suggestions on what the probl... Read more

Are you able to get into the advanced boot menu by tapping F8? It might not be listed on the startup screen but it should still be there.

If not you can burn a repair disc from any PC with Windows 7. Theres steps from Microsoft Here.

The disk that was sent to me is a USB written in Universal Disk Format - never seen this format before. It was uninitialized so i considered trying to activate it in a few ways, through diskpart in windows, and also by cloning via linux and adding boot flags to the partition it was written to. No luck, though. I'm reluctant to do much more, considering I paid money for this drive; what gives? How does one use this mysterious little drive?

My girlfriend's lenovo ideapad Z710 won't boot up past the Lenovo splash screen. She turned it on this evening and it just keeps refreshing to the Lenovo splash screen. She can't access the bios as far as I know, and she tried the CMOS battery thing as far as I'm aware and that didn't work. It won't boot into the OS and just keeps refreshing to the Lenovo splash screen. Any help would be appreciated. it's a fairly old laptop but it's needed and we can't seem to get it to boot up again.

Hello. I have 3 year old Lenovo Y50-70 laptop. Couple days ago i decided to finally upgrade to SSD. The old HDD was 1TB WD 10SPCX and i replaced it with 480GB Kingston UV500 SSD. When I swapped the drives and tried to boot, I was stuck on completely black screen with only Lenovo logo. This ocured when I tried to enter Novo menu using Lenovo Novo button as well. I tried to put back the old HDD and it was working normally. When i pulled out both disks and tried to boot only from bootable USB this problem did not occur. Then i tried to plug the SSD to some HP desktop computer and I was able to install windows there and boot on the desktop normally. So I put the SSD back into my laptop and again i was stuck on the logo. However, because Windows was now installed, I was able to boot after being stuck on the Lenovo logo for some time. Then I tried to change the SATA controller mode. I tried both Compatible (IDE) and AHCI modes and installed fresh windows using both settings but still I was stuck on the cursed Lenovo logo. The lag lasted ~1 minute when usind the IDE and 6-7 minutes using AHCI setting.  My bios version is the same as the version available for donwload on my laptop drivers page (V3.03). Using bios options to restore to defaults or OS optimized defaults did not make any difference. All the drivers are installed and up to date, though I think this is irrelevant as the problem first occured before any OS was present.  Could it be t... Read more

Hey,I really need some help with the following issue: Details:HW: Y520 with 16GB RAM, GTX 1060, SSD (GPT) + HDD (MBR)SW: Win10 pro - including latest updates. On GPT based SSD and in UEFI mode.BIOS: latest one is loaded Problem:In short; The FIRST boot each day is unsuccessful, but the SECOND right after the failed attempt is always successful. More details:This also happens, if I switch the notebook on after not using it for a few hours, like 3h<So during the first attempt the notebook is just freezing and and I have to press and hold power button. The last thing I can see is the lenovo logo and the stopped spinning circle animation. Notebook doesnt react to ctrl+alt+del. The strange thing is that right after these 1st attempts the 2nd boot attempts are always successful, windows10 loads in and no problem after that. What I already checked:-Windows event viewer: There are no records from the failed boot, I guess because windows is not even loaded.-Drivers: All drivers are installed-BIOS: I didnt see any related setting. The OS was installed in UEFI mode and bios is set this way (UEFI)-I run all the quick and deep hw diagnostics test on lenovo support page - No issues.-Win10 reinstall: Even after a clean install the freezes are still happening. Installed win10 twice but no change, still freezing. What causes the freezes!?If needed I can make a video as well. Thanks in advance!
