Win 7 Support good until Jan 14 2020

Q: Win 7 Support good until Jan 14 2020

I was poking around and picked on two links indicating support will run up untill 1/14/20,  hopefully MS will come up with something real nice by then.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

yep

Mainstream (free, Microsoft-provided) support for Windows 7 with Service Pack 1 installed isn't expiring until January 13, 2015. Microsoft will continue to provide security fixes for Windows 7 for free until the end of extended supprt, which is January 14, 2020 -- unless Microsoft ends up extending that support date, as it did with Windows XP.

Flavallee mentioned although W7 suppport officially ends in 2020, there may be unofficial support until 2021.
Does this mean that W7 will be secure until 2021 ? Would I have to change the microsoft antivirus (MSE) if I continue use W7 ?
Thanks

A:Is Windows 7 Mainstream Support will also end in 2020?

On January 13, 2015, Microsoft will stop mainstream support for Windows 7--which is still an extremely popular operating system. But you'll still be able to use it safely for another five years.
This isn't anything like the run-up to the end of XP support back in April, when everyone in the tech press (including me) warned you about dire consequences if you continued to use XP. That was the end of extended
support, which is far more serious than the end of mere mainstream support.
Once mainstream support ends, there will be no more service packs. Microsoft won't redesign the environment or add new features. Without a special extended agreement, you won't get patches for bugs that don't result
in a security threat.
But if you like Windows 7, you probably don't really need new service packs, and you certainly don't want a redesigned user interface. As long as Microsoft patches vulnerabilities that could become security risks,
Windows 7 remains a safe operating system.
Microsoft doesn't plan to stop fixing security problems in Windows 7 until extended support ends. That's January 14, 2020--five years and a day from the end of mainstream support.
If that doesn't put you at ease, consider this: XP's mainstream support ended in April 2009. It caused no problems whatsoever. Millions continued to use XP for another five years without people like me warning
them of dire consequences. Windows 7 won't be any different.
Vista mainstream support ended on April 10, 2012. Exte... Read more

Extended Windows 7 support ends Jan2020, 10 years after it was introduced.

All 3rd generation Intel Core processors, and later, with a model number starting with 3, for example i5-3470, are Windows 10 capable.  Run 'sys info' to see your processor model.  If you have a Pentium or Celeron, follow these instructions.   If your processor is prior to Windows 10 support, see that section section later in this post.

If you only have 4 GB memory, it is most likely that you will need to upgrade to 8 GB just to run a web browser well (my Win 10 is using 5.4 GB as I type this with only Firefox running), as Win 10 uses more memory than did Win 7, and a 64-bit OS uses more than 32-bit.  I recommend Kingston and Crucial "System Specific" memory for your specific ThinkCentre model.  If your system runs out of memory, it slows to a crawl.

A free Windows 10 upgrade may still be available, I used this method here a year ago:  ZDNet - Here's how you can still get a free Windows 10 upgrade - updated Sept 2019

A few suggestions to avoid problems:

1.  If you don't have an automatic back-up program, copy all your user data to a large capacity USB drive(s).
2.  If Windows is installed on a hard drive, run a full 'surface scan', as your disk will be using storage it hasn't used before, to ensure it's error free.   Run 'Disk Cleanup' as Admin (right-click) on HDD and particularly on SSD ... Read more

I was searching fo help because I got the good.exe which shows up with each start. (Found out it is a trojan). My son uses the laptop and he downloads all possible "nonsense". The other day, I turned on my receiver to listen to the radio and I could hear a loud humming noise on every station that listened to. I then tuned into the CD, TV, and DVD channels and didn't hear the humming noise. It just came from the radio. I'm trying to figure out what it is and how to get rid of it.

Does anyone know of a good tech support site (as good as Techsupportguy.org!) dedicated to radio problems?

A:Anyone know a good forum on radio tech support?

It sounds like a fault in the RF/detector section, probably a faulty electrolytic filter capacitor. (but there are lots of them)

If you have good soldering skills, and a multimeter that measures capacitance, plus an understanding of where to look on the internal PCB, go to it.

First off the main issue.  ThinkCentre 10M9 support page is missing a USB 3.0 Controller Driver.  This causes USB mouse and keyboards not to work unless enabling an option in BIOS for limited support.  According to BIOS the fix is to install the XHCI driver (Intel Extensible Host Controller Driver).  On the support page for the model, no USB controller driver is found.  Please advise on where to get the correct USB3 controller.  Secondary issue.   While I am thankful for a community forum, what is with the lack of a support email address or chat where I could speak with a Lenovo staff member?  Very sub par support in my opinion, which is unfortunate because Lenovo Warranty Service is amazing.

Hello!

It seems that old games support is totally butchered on windows 8 and 8.1. They run but slowly.
Desperados was unplayable for example. (I suffered through it with wineD3D and broken UI)
No One Lives Forever is playable but has crappy framerates. Less than 30, which sometimes drops below 20. Which makes it not quite enjoyable....

I was wondering if I could hack some sort of solution. Maybe copy relevant files from older windows versions. 7 and Vista are the closest. These games ran well up until 7. Is it possible? Anyone try something like this?

A:8/8.1 crappy old games support any good workarounds?

Remember that some old games' frame rate is capped at 20 (more wasn't necessary back then). I remember that this is the case for AOE II for example.

guys,
i have Intel Core 2 4500 CPU. Socket type is LGA775. Have 4 gb DDR 2 (4 sticks 1 gb each). I need a no-frill NON-overclocking simple motherboard for it. Right now I have gigabyte P-35 DS3L but the bios support is no good. I cannot use a USB keyboard to power on the computer. I don't want overclocking feature at all - just a solid mobo with a really good and working bios and preferrably a micro-atx.

A:need stable quality mobo with good bios support

I'd probably look to the Intel brand in that situation.

Here's a link to a bunch of micro ATX Intel Socket 775 boards at New Egg:

Newegg.com - Computer Hardware,Motherboards,Intel Motherboards,Intel,LGA 775,Micro ATX

BIOS support going forward could be tricky because socket 775 is on the way out. You'd have to dig into BIOS features to see if they support USB keyboard power on.

I had a socket 775 Intel board for 4 years that had no issues at all, but I can't recall if it had that feature.

A:Missing Driver/ Lenovo support is not good EDIT: to add solution

Why not just phone Lenovo Support (in Atlanta): 800-426-7378?

As far as USB 3.0 driver, the M710t is a Kaby Lake machine which is supported only by Win10 which has built-in USB 3.0 support.  There's really no need for Lenovo to provide separate Intel USB 3.0 drivers, as there would be for a Skylake-version CPU and a Win7 option (since Win7 does NOT have built-in USB 3.0 support).

So I'm puzzled as to what your situation is that causes USB mouse and keyboards not to work without setting the BIOS for legacy USB support.  Ever since Skylake, USB mouse and keyboard required USB 3.0 support in Windows, which is why the standard Win7 installer couldn't be use without recreating updated install media that had USB 3.0 drivers added. Same story trying to install Win7 to an NVMe target, since NVMe is also not built-in supported by standard Win7 (whereas it is by Win10), and you had to update the Win7 install media to also have NVMe drivers as well as USB 3.0 drivers, if you wanted to install Win7 to a Skylake CPU/chipset.

But Kaby Lake is ONLY supported by Win10, which already has built-in USB 3.0 driver support.  So I don't understand why you had any problem with USB mouse and keyboard, unless you're trying to install Win7 to this Kaby Lake M710t machine... which is not supported.

Can you please clarify your machine, and what you're trying to do where the USB mouse and keyboard "didn't work" without using the BIOS "legacy USB" option.

I have a new HP Pavilion dm4 laptop which has randomly restarted on me and gives me the BSOD. I have spent my entire Saturday today trying to learn how to debug my PC - I'm a novice as you can tell. I spent over an hour with HP Tech Support and the best they can do was try to convince me to do a full system recovery or pay $59 to have someone smarter try to fix the issue. At one point I was told MSSE was bare min for security, so I purchased AVG security suit and it was so restrictive I uninstalled it. Now my MSSE no longer works AND Win 7 has passed end of life Jan 2020...
I tried to reinstall it before EOS, but had an error of "I already have anti malware installed, please uninstall", so I uninstalled MSSE from control panel and I seen I have "malwarebytes(free ver)" installed too, so I tried to uninstall
and had error "can't find uninstal000.dat file"... And Yes, I can search for it, it's just gone... I did find uninstal000.exe, but no .dat
So, I checked the security status tab under action center and it shows that MSSE is ON and working correctly and windows defender is OFF and I can't start WD, can't turn OFF MSSE...
I used current ver of malwarebytes to scan the computer and it found nothing wrong, I also use OutByte Pc Repair to scan/fix things and I think it does a great job on my other machines...
So I guess my questions are:
-How do I remove the malwarebytes entry off installed programs list? I want to Delete the program folder, I don't think the software works any longer because it won't start (passed trial date maybe)... But it still shows as being installed...
-I want to uninstall MSSE and reinstall it. How can I do that? I've tried taking a copy off a working machine and running setup.exe but the error of already having anti malware installed hangs it up...
-How do I stop all anti malware ac... Read more

my dell 2020 has been having problems starting up, this time it won't start at all. I have tried all options (restore, start up repair, load windows keep files) but all have failed. I guess I will need to try a fresh install. It originally came with 7 and free upgraded to 10. So where do I start, do I need to try and find a copy of 10? Thanks for any advice. Michael

A:Dell 2020 recovery

You can download that from Microsoft (see below).  That said, before reloading the OS, run an extended hard drive diagnotic (F12 at powerup) to rule out the possibility that the drive is faulty and the cause of the problem.

A:Cant delete 2020 Search

How was it "removed" originally? Have you deleted the programs folder for it? Are there any executables still running?

If you are just seeing it in Add/Remove programs and no place else, that's a registry edit.

You must find the listing for the program under this key (run regedit):

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

And right click on it and delete it. It's possible it might be one of the "clsid" keys (numbered entries). If you don't find a program folder name, you must open each clsid and look in the right pane for it. If you are in doubt, don't delete anything, or select File > Export and save the key first as a reg file. You can restore it by doubleclicking

But, almost August and no update in sight, according to https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/advanced-threat-analytics/ata-versions
So, when can we expect this update (if at all)?

Greetings & Salmenella
The upper memory slot on the motherboard of my Inspiron One 2020 is beeping known stop , two beep intervals. No matter what memory I put in the beeping continues. It only stops if i have one memory stick in the lower slot.
I need help on verifying the correct motherboard to purchase or if there a different Dell mother board that I can upgrade to that will fit in the case housing. I dont mind if I have to make cuts or small holes on the back plate, since I already made holes for a tuner card I bought after I purchased the model that did not have the openings for the TV cable.
I really dont wanna go buy a brand new computer for a bad 4meg memory slot. I have a solid state , the 8 gigs of ram ,and 2 gigs of ramdisk, it runs fast enough that I dont think about buy a new computer. But losing that 4gigs of ram in the bad memory slot. Holy Ding dongs, the hard drive takes for ever to stop making noise, surfing slows down  and compiling and writing visual basic for class takes forever.
Now for the short version.

What is the correct mother board model to replace an Inspiron One 2020 or is there a higher brand model that a mother board will fit my AIO housing and fit  all my computer guts. I have a iCore 5 -2390T cpu.

 Love,
Stu

It's like my screen is frozen. It comes on but I can't get anything to work. I brought another mouse from another computer and it didn't work either.
Do you think I need to buy another mouse & keyboard but why won't the touch screen work either?

I am trying to help a person that isn't very computer literate. She has the 2020 search toolbar on her machine and her parasite software is detecting it as a trojan but won't clean it. Is there an online scan or tool that will clean this trojan?

A:2020 search toolbar

Download CWShredder:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/CWShredder.exe
Run and hit the ->fix tab to fix all found problems

CWShredder takes advantage of security holes in windows so you should install all critical as well as hotfixes available from windows update.
Then repost a fresh Hijack this log .

Download 'Hijack This!' http://www.spychecker.com/program/hijackthis.html and save it to a folder on your desktop.
Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log, load it in Notepad, and copy its contents here. Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet.

Hello robertpwns and welcome,

We will begin with ComboFix.exe. Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running the tool:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/comb...o-use-combofix

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.

The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

Once installed, you should see a blue screen prompt that says:

The Recovery Console was successfully installed.

Please continue as follows:Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.
When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

Please include the following reports for further review, and so we may continue cleansing the system:

Hey, just wanted to know what the most powerful, compatible processors are for this system (Inspiron one 2020, LGA 1155 socket, System board: 0MTFWP, BIOS A07) I couldn't find any documentation on the processors that are compatible with this version of the bios. Would an I5 or an I7 work with it?

A:Inspiron one 2020 processor upgrade

Hi Charles198

Thanks for writing to us.
The system has been tried and tested with only model of i5 processor. i.e.
I5-2390T
i7 will not work.
But we have come across situations where few of our customers have tried parts that were not tested by Dell, for few it worked like a charm, and for few it was little to no luck.
