Critical_Object_Termination error when plugging in flash drives

Q: Critical_Object_Termination error when plugging in flash drives

I need some advice here. I have gotten blue screen errors sometimes when I plug flash drives into my computer. I would like to know where the error is coming from and exactly what is causing it. I have done some searches on it, but nothing solid has come up other than having a friend say its a virus. wanted a second oppinion to make sure.

Preferred Solution: Critical_Object_Termination error when plugging in flash drives

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I've got an old Dell Inspiron 8200 PC that the office uses as shared storage, printer server etc, and it's been having issues seeing USB drives correctly (Although the laser printer that's on USB has never ever had a problem!?!)

Yesterday it dawned on me that instead of plugging in the extra 2 drives I need I could put another couple of hard drives in, in place of the optical drives, that are never used on that machine.

So after a bit vague googling it seemed this was possible, so I went ahead and removed both optical drives, replacing them with 2 hard drives, (so now the PC has 4 internal drives).

... and they work! You wouldn't believe the hassle I've had with NetworkAttachedStorage and various different USB drives, while figuring out that this machine doesn't like USB drives!)

The thing is: the drives seem to be running really slowly. Is this because CD drives won't need to receive data as fast as hard drives do? Is there any way of setting it up to send data faster to these drives?

I'm helping someone with a Windows XP machine.

Anytime we go to view the CD drive or his FLASH removeable drive we get the following two errors:

1. IORdyUI Error -- Loading Resource dll

2. Error Loading Resources -- C:\Program Files\Iomega\Comman\IomCopyDiskShellExt.enu.ILSR

I've tried to look in regedit for something of an IOMEGA value, but couldn't see anything.

Any help would be appreciated!

Hello all!

I am using windows 7 home premium 64 bit. So far no major problems and I really like the new operating system. I was looking in the even viewer and noticed that every time I plug in a usb flash drive, I get the following message.
"The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk1\DR3".
The flash drive works just fine and there are no other apparent problems with the computer. Is this something I should be concerned with?

Thanks

One of my customers reported that they plugged in a usb flash drive and the system blue screened. It took several restarts to get to a useable state. I checked the event log and took a look at the mini dump files and it looks to me like it might be a video or network driver issue (rather than a usb issue). I am hoping however that someone here will take a look and see what the logs tell you before I schedule time with the customer to try to resolve.
I scanned the system (and aforementioned flash drive for viruses - found nothing). The system for now however is stable again with no blue screens since last Friday.
The system is a Dell Precision Workstation T1650/Windows 7 Pro 64 bit/12 GB RAM/Sorry I don't have the processor but have to assume it's a 3rd Gen i7/Norton Internet Security/Dual monitors/ - please let me know if you need me to get other specs for you.
They run Solidworks 3D Cad software on this station.
I've attached the diagnostics file from the SF diagnostic tool.
I've also attached the mini dump files from the PC - just to be thorough

Thanks in advance for any insights.
Elly

Hi everyone,

My first post here as this is the first time I can't solve what's causing the BSOD on my own. I went through the sticky post and attached what was suggested in the zip file.

Hardware:
- Lenovo Thinkpad X200, Intel C2D 2.4 GHz, 3GB RAM

OS - Windows 7:
- Professional x64
- system came with Vista Business (not sure 32 or 64)
- full retail (bought through MSDN Acadamic Alliance)

System brand new; old 2 weeks, I installed Win7 Pro as soon as I got it. I upgraded the basic configuration (which had 1 GB RAM and 160GB HDD) with 2 more GB RAM and 120 GB SSD (OCZ Vertex 2).

Other notes: I used Memtest86+ to boot from USB key and it ran checking the RAM for about 1.5 hrs, didn't find any errors. The BSOD pops up pretty randomly, just now it did when the computer was idling.
Thanks a bunch for any help!

Dual Core Windows 7 Pro 64 bit Toshiba laptop. My daughter was working on a Power Point project for school. She went to plug in her flash drive and it didn?t seem to load the drive up. She unplugged it and then plugged it back in. We got a BSOD. We restarted it and it BSOD again. I tried some general troubleshooting, including restoring it to a previous version, and now cannot get into Windows at all. Not even in safe mode. Now I am getting multiple BSODs.

Currently I am seeing these BSODs:

I am getting one when just trying to start and run windows I am getting a BSOD about memory management.

If I try to go into safe mode it loads the files and then I get a BSOD regarding the fbwf.sys.
Using the Windows 7 disc I have been able to get to the System Recovery Options. It finds my install and then blue screens with IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL or Driver_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL even before it gets to finding my install.

Other BSODs I know I have seen are regarding the Ntfs.Sys and PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA.

I was able to run a mem test on it at one point and it said everything was fine. I would appreciate any help or advice you can give me since I can?t even get to a command prompt or safe mode.

Dell Support - ran across a weird defect/bug with USB-C.  I'm running latest drivers - Chipset_Driver_7P7G7_WN32_15.3.39.250_A01.
On balanced power mode; battery fully charged, plugged into AC.
Within 1-2 minutes after plugging in any device, fan speeds ramp up from just under 40dB to 43.5dB (in my office).  It's quite an audible jump as well. Upon removing this device, fan speeds return to "normal".  Same device plugged into USB 3.0 port will not cause this jump.
Devices I've tested:
Samsung T1 Ext SSD drive
Xbox One Controller Adapter (Wireless)
USB-C to HDMI adapter (can't test this device on regular USB3.0)

Has anyone else experienced this? I've been having the same problem and have yet to stumble across a solution. Having updated to the latest drivers and BIOS hasn't changed anything, so I'm beginning to wonder if it's a defect of my particular unit. Dell, please address this issue ASAP.

Computer was built in April:

CPU: I7-2700K (Running @ stock), After-market cooler
Motherboard: ASROCK|Z68 EXTREME3 GEN3 1155 R
RAM: CORSAIR CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9 4GBx2
Video: EVGA GeForce GTX 560 Ti FPB 1024 MB GDDR5
SSD: 180 GB SSD 520 SERIES
HD: 1TB WesternDigital 7200

OS has not been re-installed since built.

First blue screen was 05/17/2012: KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR (0x7a).
Since 06/06/2012, all errors are CRITICAL_OBJECT_TERMINATION (0xF4).

Most BSOD occurs while playing Diablo 3. After the first BSOD on a particular day, it tends to happen again.

BSOD occurs basically every other day, some days are fine.

I use my computer 10-16 hours a day (work from home).

All drivers updated, internal components reseated, memtest run, chkdsk, driver verifier, video card test, everything has been fine.

My next steps unless you guys can identify a culprit: run with a different video card for a few days, run with only 1 ram stick, alternate, run with HDD disconnected (data drive), replace cables, then reformat the SSD if all else fails.

EDIT: Adding zip file per instructions.

A:BSOD playing games (Diablo 3), error 0xF4 Critical_Object_Termination

Hello Lordwiz and welcome to Sevenforums.

Graphic Drivers

If this is only happening while you're playing games like Diablo, a good place to look after is the Graphic Driver. Your dump was in fact mentioning a little information about the Graphic Buffer.
Driver download goes there for your 560 TI.

Update DX files

DirectX files can miss up at times. Many games can be fixed by updating the files, simply because of missing content, or bad sectors. To update your DirectX-files, the place would be here.

Temperature

Monitor your temperature while you're gaming. It could be a causer, especially with these types of problems.

Memory

Your dump includes unsure information about failed memory failure. MemTest86+ provides scans of your memory. Run it for 7 or 8 passes and post back your results. The website goes here.

If you have further questions or researches,
feel free to post.

Best Regards,
Frederik.

Hello, and thanks in advance. I am working remotely with a computer owned by a family member of mine.

The computer is running:
- Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
- System was built by me in the past
- This version of windows comes free via the MSDN where I am a student (so full retail I think)
- The system was built in May, 2011
- The OS has been maintained since then on its SSD

Seemingly, almost like clockwork, the computer is slowly freezing up until a BSOD 0xF4 appears for 100 seconds. The computer attempts to reboot and ends up on a black screen with a blinking cursor when it should be booting Windows. If a cold startup (hold power button, turn off, wait 10 sec, turn on) is done, windows boots up and it will function fine for right about one hour.

From there, I'll let the ZIP file do the talking for me.

Much appreciated for any time and effort you all can give.

Yesterday I discovered my computer will no longer read my flash drives, external hard drives or SD cards.  If I plug in any of them, they don’t even show up in Disk Management.  In Device Manager they will show up, but will have a yellow flag and under Properties it says the driver for this device is not installed even though they’ve been used before on the computer.  Clicking “Update Driver” doesn’t help because it searches and says there are no drivers for this device.  If I go to the “Events” tab, it gives the  date and “Device configured (null)”.

I restarted my computer today, hoping it might correct this problem, but when restarting I ended up with a message about an inaccessible boot drive.  After going into a loop several times where it told me about the inaccessible boot drive and then restarted again, I finally ended up with a screen that gave me more options for troubleshooting such as doing a system restore point.  I had the computer perform a system restore and finally it took me to the welcome screen and then desktop.  Anyway, rebooting did not correct the problem about my computer not reading my flash drives, external hard drives or SD card.  Any ideas?  Maybe the problems I’m having are related to a recent Windows update (computer seemed to be working fine before the update), but don’t know for sure.

I am running Windows XP SP3 right now on a Lenovo 7650-ELU and experiencing some odd problems. For some reason, the laptop I have will not recognize USB Flash Drives that I put into it or External Hard Drives. I know that the USB ports work correctly, because I have plugged in optical mouses and keyboards that work. I searched the forums and didn't see anything like this.

It's odd how when I first insert them, it makes the sound and shows the icon in the taskbar that would allow me to safely remove the device, but nothing else. So far, I have gone into the device manager and uninstalled all the USB ports and restarted hoping this would solve my problem, but it continues to do the same thing.

If anyone has some helpful advise, please post. I appreciate all the help.

Cheers!

zformer,

You can consider the use of the Panda Vaccine on your computer and USB Drives:
Download Panda USB and AutoRun Vaccine - MajorGeeks

This tool provides a two way security by vaccinating both computer and/or USB drives.
It work on NTFS, FAT, FAT32 formatted drives.
However, vaccinating a USB drive cannot be undone without formatting the USB disk, using a hex editor, or a File Manager in a Linux distribution..

Next, make sure that your Antivirus can scan USB drives. Some do not have this option.

If I go into the ?owner? tab of Advanced Security Settings, current owner says ?Unable to display current owner?

I already found out the hard way that flash drives don't have a registry in which I can install a program to it, and run it on other computers, unless the program is a lite program. Is there a way to make it more flexible in the sense of creating a registry for it?

Next question; Do external hard drives have a registry? Could I install games and or programs to an external and run them directly from it? Is there a way to create a registry for it if it does not have one?
Anyone that has anything else to possibly add, I'm more than happy to explore any and all options, so don't be shy!

Hey guys. I've been a fan of your forum for a while, and didn't create an account til now. I'm at my wits end.. and I'm desperate for help. My posts on other forums have been ignored, so I'll try here.

It all started when I bought the Dingoo A320 game system. In order for it to work with Windows 7, I had to replace the USBSTOR.sys file with another. Everything seemed fine.. except the file transfer to my Dingoo was exceptionally slow. Eventually, I followed instructions months ago, and somehow got my Dingoo to not use it's preinstalled China Chip Drivers, but Windows's mass storage driver.

Everything seemed fine for months.. until I bought a portable hard drive (Seagate Freeagent Go Flex). After spending hours trying to figure out why it wouldn't install, I returned it.. about a week later, I picked out a Patriot 64GB Flash Drive as a replacement to the Freeagent Go. Surprise surprise.. drivers won't install. Old flash drives still work (they were installed before the Dingoo incident).

I've tried:

-Uninstalling and reinstalling device plenty of times
-Pointed Windows 7 towards "/system32/drivers" and didn't help
-Replaced USBSTOR.sys with Windows XP version
-Replaced USBSTOR.sys with Windows Vista version
-Checked for corrupted system files
-Tried Driver Genius

I'm at my wits end.. I have so many important files on this OS.. and I don't want to restore the OS. I've backed up some of my files thanks to Ubuntu (where the flash drive works without a... Read more

Good day all,
I am running an hp desktop using windows 7 that I wish to back up. I'm going to need a terrabyte external hard drive and, if possible, a terabyte flash drive. The last one I bought was a Seagate but I was annoyed to find it required me to purchase separate software.
So my question is in two parts, which do you think is/are the best external hard drive to buy and does it come complete with all necessary software? I'm not sure if flash drives run to that size but if they do which would you recommend?
A final question, when I have backed up my computer in the past, it has not been recorded and 'it' says there has never been a back-up carried out; another message is that the network or location the back-up is being stored cannot be located! What have I done wrong?
I appreciate any help or advice that can be given,
Thanks.

Yes, they use the same flash chips for storage. As for the utility.. It depends on what you want to do.

On application level a drive is a drive is a drive and there is no difference between working with a hard drive, a flash drive, a memory card, a zip drive, whatever.

From what I gleaned from Google, it's an error reading the disk (perhaps trying to read it before it's fully loaded?).

Once I click Continue, I'm able to do everything I need to do (dragging and dropping files between phone and computer), so it's not a huge problem, but is rather annoying. Is there any way to get rid of it, or do I have to live with it?

Thanks either way.

Hi guys. When I start up the computer and everything - nothing's wrong. But a while ago I plugged in my Digital Camera through a front USB port on my base unit and it appeared in My Computer no problem, but then suddenly "Windows Error - No Disk In Drive" error popped up. And I thought why has that appeared when I can access and see my camera drive? So I thought there may be a problem with the front USB port, but later on I plugged my iPod into my computer through a USB port in the back on the computer, and the message popped up again. I can either Cancel the error message, Try Again, or Continue. But it just keeps popping up no matter which one I click. I have to restart the computer in order for it to go away. I have other things plugged into my USB ports such as a Microphone, Wireless Network Adaptor, and Printer, so I thought it can't be the ports. Also, today, a different error message came up. Originally the No Disk error came up and I tried cancelling as usual, and it went away for a few second but then this error came up instead. [/IMG]Can anyone help me please?

Thanks, Andrew.

Hi all!

So I built my own PC late last year and have had absolutely no problems with it whatsoever, until my brother plugged in his JVC HD GC-FM2 camera. This camera is supposed to be able to be plugged into any PC without issue and without the need to install software/drivers, but for me it blue screens. I am able to plug in other USB devices just not this camera.

I'm running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit, my computer is up to date, to the best of my knowledge anyway lol. I checked event viewer and if it's any help the relative event ID is 41. I've also attached all the needed documents.

I've tried searching for a solution but to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

A:BSOD Plugging in USB device, error 0x3b

The latest BSOD was probably caused by ntkrnlmp.exe.

The 0x3B error is usually caused by a hardware device or it's corresponding driver. In this case, it'll be this camera of yours. Do the BSOD's only occur with the device plugged in? Or do the BSOD's just happen at random intervals?

You will need to run an sfc/scannow command in an elevated command prompt. If errors are found, run it twice more with each scan followed by a reboot.
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

You should then test your RAM using Memtest86+. Let it run until 6-8 passes have completed or errors have been found.
RAM - Test with Memtest86+

Finally, enable Driver Verifier. However before you do, it is advised that you create a system restore point and backup first.
Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable

You should also think about plugging your camera into another computer to see whether the camera is really at fault or if your computer is responding differently to the camera. However, only attempt this if you are not worried about getting BSOD's on the test computer; there is a risk that the problem from your computer may start on the test computer.

Today my laptop crashed when I was waiting for a game for Dota 2. While I was waiting for a game, I plugged in a Belkin Mouse connector for my Belkin wireless mouse which I have not used for some time. It didn't come on quickly the first time i inserted it so i removed the connector and put it into another usb port. Windows then said it was installing driver software then the screen went fuzzy and crashed. A blue screen appeared with The CANCEL_STATE_IN_COMPLETED_IRP bug check which has a value of 0x00000048 that came up. Apparently this bug check is rare. I have attached the dump files. I really appreciate it if you can have a look to see if it was in fact the mouse driver which completed the IRP (I/o request packet) and then attempted to cancel it, causing a crash or if the crash was caused by two drivers each trying to access the same IRP in an improper way? With the prices so low for higher capacity drives, it's going to be tough to even find 64MB drives. If you do, they'll probably be as much as a 512MB drive. With the portable software, music, and videos available, even young kids are going to want more than 64MB for it to be useful.

I hope this is the appropriate section for this question as I'm assuming a flash drive is hardware...?

I just can't figure this out...

I've been using a couple of 8GB flash drives (differant makes), which are formatted as FAT32, on a pc that's formatted as NTFS. From what I understand, generally, that shouldn't be a problem. For storage or for running software they function without issues. However, if I load any music or video files onto the drive, and then try to open them (on this pc or any other), I get an error message and the Web Help button brings me to the Gates of Bill with:

"You've encountered error message C00D1199 while using Windows Media Player. The following information might help you troubleshoot the issue. Cannot play the file.
Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The file type is not supported by the Player. Or the file type is supported by the Player, but the file was compressed by using a codec that is not supported by the Player."

Which is, essentially irrelavant and useless since the file is obviously supported if it plays in the original and any copies that I put onto any other drive or media.

My 1GB drive is formatted simply as FAT and there are no problems with it other than its limited capacity. I'm guessing that FAT32 is the root of the problem and I've tried to reformat the drive as NTFS, but it won't take and FAT is not an available option. I've tried reformatting in DOS and v...
