I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi shah-aijaz, Sorry to hear that you are having issues with the wifi on your notebook. I have done some research and I have found that the computer that you have listed does NOT have Windows 7. Are you certain that you are giving the proper model number of your computer? Please check the bottom of your computer and the product number should be listed on a white sticker by a bar code.

Please write back at your convenience.

Thank you.

Hi Helpers,

I am running Windows 10 32bit and have a Realtec RTL8169/8110 Family PCI Gigabit Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.20) card integral (Motherboard). It has the latest drivers installed. (10.6.1001.2015 - October 2015). Device Manager doesn't show any fault with the card

The Internet Access Icon in the task bar shows a yellowish triangle containing an exclamation mark. Despite this, a cursor 'hover' says 'internet access' and I can indeed get my emails sent and downloaded to my client. Also I can surf the www. I have no idea whether speed is affected during the display; I have Virginmedia 150mb speed, but at best it usually reaches 15-35Mbs on any speedtest. The provider doesn't want to know about the speed problem.

Sometimes the system starts up without displaying the yellowish icon. Sometimes a restart cures the symbol too. Speedtests remain about the same.

Does anyone have any idea of likely causes and cures please?

Many thanks for looking.

As stated in the title, the Network icon on the taskbar in the bottom right, always shows the disconnected Ethernet, even while I am connected to wifi. I've also tried connecting it via the Ethernet port, and it still shows the disconnected Ethernet icon. Also, not sure if this is related or not, but at every boot, windows tries to install an unidentified-unnamed device. I will post screenshots of the problems.

Here's the screenshots.

Ethernet cable working fine as when i hooked it to my laptop everything is working fine , means problem lies within the desktop and nothing wrong with cable or router port.

Troubleshoot that I had done so far :

Restarted desktop 3 times, uninstalled LAN driver, connected new Ethernet cable

What else I need to check to find out what is going on ?

So, this is not a major issue but kind of annoying. Recently I have noticed that the system tray icon for the wireless network always has that little red X and if I open the Network and Sharing Center it says "You are not currently connected to any networks." When I click "See Full Map" it shows a line from my PC to the Router but the line from my router to the internet has a red X.

The thing is, I am connected to the internet. I can go online just fine. Any ideas?

Hello Serg, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Sometimes a simple restart of the PC will sort the network icon for you.

If not, then a quick disable and enable of the wireless network usually will toggle it back with the correct icon.

Hope this helps,

Welcome
If you have access without problem there is no reason to concern yourself. Go to search by the start button. Type notification, in the notification area got to network notification and set it up to hide. The problem is gone and you are enjoying the computer and the internet.
You could try to right click on the icon and then troubleshoot, but I am not really hopeful using that approach.
I do not know of any other way to correct this small malfunction.

sometimes it wont recognize that you are online....
have you updated your network drivers and done you windows update??
if you log off and log on again does this show??
if you remove the cable (assuming its a Cat-5 cable [lan cable that connects to your router])
if we are talking about a laptop [you should have a button or a switch to turn it off]

A warning in advance: this is going to be a fairly long post. I don't know a ton about troubleshooting but I'm not computer illiterate and I've tried quite an array of tests while trying to fix things on my own.

First of all my laptop is an:
HP Presario V6000(GB115AV)
I'm running windows 7, I upgraded from vista last october. I had problems once back in january with being unable to download windows updates. At the time I found something suggesting that this could be due to a corrupted download and so I reinstalled win 7 and everything worked fine.

Now about 2 weeks ago I started up my laptop and although it showed up as being connected under network connections none of my applications which require the internet work.

Edit: I know that the problem isn't my ISP or the network I'm on since both the computer I'm currently using to post this(my parent's desktop) and my laptop connect to the same network. And no were not using a router, we can only have 1 computer connected at a time. We simply unplug the ethernet cable from one computer and put it into the other.

I've looked at my ipconfig settings and everything looks fine. I even tried ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew as well as ipconfig /dnsflush just to be safe. No luck with any of that.

Then I went and looked at the system logs, and found that ever since about november of last year there have been intermittent problems with the BITS service not starting. More recently BITS has not been starting and I've been... Read more

no ideas? I'm just about ready to give up and try doing a factory reset back to vista and hope that fixes things.

Edit: Just found out additional info about my network adapter, apparently theres been no downloads for it on the intel download center for OS's after win XP. But on a different page it said that there is "in box support" for it. Would this mean that the appropriate driver was included in my win 7 install, or that my adapter is outdated for win 7 and that is causing my problem? For Reference my computer is less than 3 years old and came initially installed with vista on it. My adapter is the Intel(R) Pro 100/VE Network Connection.

Ok this has started a few weeks ago. When my brother and his gf were visting. We have a router that we use as a wireless access point for our laptops. But something has been happening. Sometimes the laptops (2 have WINDOWS XP and two were Apple iBooks) work and sometimes they don't. It's really annoying and frustrating. So yeah it's been happening for three weeks now. The first week it happened I didn't have WEP on the router so we thought it was that. Still happens.

I didn't happen to my laptop until today. That's the one in my computer spec section. It's updated to the latest FF and IE. The computer shows it's connected to the wireless signal but doesn't connect on the FF or IE browser whatsoever. He's my IPCONFIG log:

Yes... And it's not the first time it has happened.
It usually happens when the power goes out, even for a half a second.. Like today, it was a beautiful day out, sunny, hot.. Then out of the god damn blue the power flickers.. What the hell... I go check my internet (because i'm now aware when this happens, the internet doesn't come back), I tried an address and it worked (msn.com) and.. Tried yahoo, nothing, tried google... nothing.

So it connected, but then lost in about 15 seconds... WHY!?
This is seriously pissing me off now, if this continues to happen.. So help me god i'll smash my modem and router into 100 pieces.
I hope you can understand my frustration.

What ive tried :
Power cycling, resetting both, flushing DNS (since it appears its a DNS problem), unplugging them and replugging them in god knows how many times.. Anyways, i'm sure there is tons of things I haven't tried that I don't know of, which is why i'm here.

And i'm on the computer right now, this is DIRECT (so modem connected directly to PC) when I do that? It works fine and dandy! But when I connect my modem to my router = NOPE, both on PC and laptop.

So keep in mind, sometimes it connects for about 20 seconds then loses it, what could be causing that? And how do I get my internet back up

Oh, and telling me to call my manufacturers will do me no good , sorry.. Have called computer manufacturer, router, modem, ISP, in previous times, got zero help.

Internet worked fine for about a week until I started watching shows online and using a lot more data then suddenly I could no no longer visit sites or use web based programs even though 8 says its still connected to the internet

If I restarted my computer it would work for maybe an hour then would happen again it seemed like if I deleted my cookies it would work for a longer period of time. If i reset the router or modem it would work for a bit as well. it has gotten so bad it stops working after about 30 seconds of usage now but after clicking my wifi connection and clicking reset estimated usage I was able to get about 20 minutes

If I plug into Ethernet into it instead of wifi it works for a while then has same issue I've also tried it on 4 seperate networks all were using the same model router ive since upgraded to a better router issue stays the same

Ipconfig sees the gateway and has an ipaddress but if I try to ping out or even to ping the router itself it times out

Reinstalling windows 8 started the issue over could use the Internet heavy at first then progressively less as time went by

No antivirus software, disabled firewall, disabled protective mode, all updates are done, did the netsh winsock reset

This problem is usually caused by winsock or the TCP/IP stack being corrupted.

Run the following two commands "just the part in bold" one at a time, use an elevated command prompt, reboot your machine after running the commands.

If you are still having problems after that please post a screen shot of the ipconfig/all form this machine.

I have looked up many things about my issue and have not found any solutions to it. My internet disconnects at seemingly random times for a random amount of time. Sometimes for 5 seconds, sometimes for 30 minutes or more. On my computer, it shows the normal wifi bars and that I am connected to my router, but it has an exclamation on it, meaning it isn't connected to the internet. When I look at my modem, however, it says I am connected to the internet. The same thing happens with all of my other devices.

I know I do not have any issues with my router or modem because I have replaced both of those (I had pretty old slow ones previously, so this was an excuse to get new ones). Replacing them did nothing to stop the issue.
I have Charter internet and they do not see any issues with them sending out a signal (but this is when my internet works perfectly fine, and I never get a hold of them when my internet is down). I also just have the in-wall female output for the cable, and have a male-male cable to connect my modem to it. I have replaced that also with no results.

I am wondering what my issue could be and how to fix it. Thanks

Hello,

whenever I'm connected to a network, the attached icon is displayed. The other icons (e.g. the spinning wheel thing when establishing a connection) do work, but the "connected" icon seems to have disappeared for no reason. I did not install any new software and I don't know what else might have triggered this, it was just that way when I booted my pc a few days ago.

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

A:Network connection icon always shows "not connected" even though I am

You might have a two adapters enabled. Right click on the bars and open the network and sharing center. Then in the left pane click on change adapter settings and see if there are 2 adapters present. If so disable the one that isn't wireless..I don't know if the two are related but mine used to look like this the left pic now it looks like the right pic. Too bad you don't have internet access; the IP lease is good for 132 years!

Strange that the Dhcp Server is not listed in the ipconfig /all.

I'd first make sure you have the latest Belkin firmware. Then reset the router to factory default settings and reconfigure it.
Make sure you have the latest wireless driver from HP's web site.

What firewall or security suite?

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Vista or 7.

Start - All Programs - Accessories and right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt.

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log

Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

Reboot the machine.

Please help me out with this problem as modem is showing connected to internet and ISP is claiming that net is not down but I am not able to connect! I tried to ping to ip address, gateway,DNS server which responded well; but request timed out,100%packet loss is being shown when I ping any other ip or domain even 8.8.8.8!
So I installed xirrus network inspector software later in the evening to detect problem and it said that external ip is N/A.

I would bring this observation to notice that my DNS server, ip address are starting with fe8... like this :
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : fe80::1%15192.168.1 , in ipconfig /all log.

You can see ping.txt file or same thing below:

Hi this is Suresh, i have purchased a new HP laptop 10months ago. I use to access internet without any issues and even now i am able to access it using the BSNL datacard but when i hook the ethernet cable to my laptop sometimes the LAN connection shows as enabled but the notification icon shows as not connected. I have uninstalled the network driver and re-installed it as instructed by one of the tech support from HP. After re-adding the driver the LAN connection shows as enabled, the notification icon shows as identifying the network but after sometime it shows as UNIDENTIFIED NETWORK, local access only but it will never acquire an IP. Once i disable and re-enable the LAN connection it gives a msg as there is an IP conflict but this laptop is not connected to the network. I tried even with the static IP but still no luck, i have configured the LAN settings to acquire the IP address automatically and the DNS but still it is not acquiring the IP it simply shows as identifying the network and gives a msg as UNIDENTIFIED NETWORK. I would really appreciate if anyone can help me to get this fixed. Please let me know if you require any information.

A:Unable to connect internet, LAN connection shows as not connected.

Hi, lose the automatically detect settings under "LAN" this is not want you want. Then go to device manager (start search devmgmt.msc) and locate your network card right click select uninstall if prompted do not uninstall the drivers reboot to take effect . Now go to start all programs accessories and right click on command prompt select "run as administrator" at the prompt type:-

Code:
netsh int ip reset press enter restart to take effect
Let us know how you get on.

Running Vista64 on HP pavillion. Wireless connects great after gigaset se567 is rebooted. But if I logoff or reboot my computer, I can no longer connect until I reboot the router again. Happens if wireless is lost as well.

Is an autoconnection to a non-broadcast SSID.

if I manually disconnect and wait a min I can manually reconnect.

Have done an ipcongif /all at one point and it showed all proper IP's etc, but I could not connect to any websites. Local access only.

My XP computer shows as connected to my SpeedStream router however when I try to go to a website using IE7 it says connecting to the page but nothing ever comes up. I'm able to connect to the Internet through my laptop using the wireless feature of the router so I do not think that it has to do with the router. I have tried rebooting the router. I also tried replacing the USB cable that connects the computer to the router and connecting directly by ethernet without any luck. In the case of each cable I tried to load a webpage before and after a reboot. I also ran a virus scan to see if anything may be stopping the connection but nothing was found. I also ran ISPFix but that found nothing either. I'm a little stumped and any help would be appreciated. Some additional info on the system is my ISP is Frontier DSL. I have a broadband router which is a SpeedStream 6520 from Siemens. It is connected to the affected computer through the USB port. It has been connected that way for over two years now. It is a wired connection type. The affected computer has XP with SP3 installed. The other computer on the network is a laptop which is wirelessly connected to the same router. That one is not having an issues.

The problem with the affected one is that it seems to be connected to the internet but whenever I try to load webpages in IE7 nothing happens and the tab just says 'Connecting...'.

Hi, Everyone.

First off, thanks for your help. I am really at my end here. This is a new "problem". Everytime I turn on my laptop the wireless network connection thingy in the lower right hand tool bar has a big red x on it. Yet, I can connect to the internet.

Would anyone know why this does this?

I have tried going to "Wireless Network Connection Properties" and then "Wireless Networks" and actually removed my router name. I then reboot my computer, am asked for network key, enter it, and when I restart my computer the same thing happens.

This is not a real "problem" but it certainly is very annoying. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated!
I have Windows XP

I have a Dell XPS M1530 running Vista Home Premium. At work (I work for a public university), it shows me as being connected to the wireless but when I try to access the internet through either IE or Firefox I get an error saying either "cannot connect" or "page load error." This started on Thursday evening (4.16). A few other times something similar has happened but rebooting worked.

What I have tried so far:
1. Disconnect and reconnect to the network.

2. Disable and then enable wireless.

3. Disable wireless card, run Norton av, then Defender (both clean), reboot and enable wireless.

4. Uninstall the driver for the card (Dell WLAN 1395 wireless card), reboot and then reinstall and reboot.

5. Uninstalling the updates I had installed the day before it started doing this.

6. System restore which gave me the error message: "System restore did not complete successfully. Your computer's system files and settings were not changed. Details: An unspecified error occurred during System Restore." I have tried this from 4 different restore points with the farthest back being 3.31.

eta: forgot about this one. 7. Ran disk error check.

Currently trying, running command prompt as admin for system scan.

I can include a screen capture of what the network and sharing shows if that would help. I would really like to avoid doing a PC restore but I have done a back up of my files just in case.

What can fix this? Is it an OS issue or hardware? Would it ... Read more

I am using an Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection. Any help would be appreciated.

I'd first make sure of having the latest driver and software for the Intel 2200BG--from your PC manufacturer if possible.

Personally I like the Intel utility. You like Windows' WZC better? On the other hand, I've never been able to get the Intel utility to show me Not Connected and Connected at the same time!

My husband's laptop stopped accessing the internet. It shows connectivity to the wireless router and worked fine previously.
He thought the problem might be Norton Antivirus 2006 because he started clicking no instead of yes when it was 'doing stuff' and so he asked me to uninstall it as he was not using it. (He is using McAfee free from comcast) I downloaded the Norton Removal Tool as the computer froze each time I tried to access Norton from the control panel. Hello,

It says that you are copnnected to two networks. Disable your other network connection or unplug the cable if you are connected via a wire. It probably because it is getting confused about how to access the internet.

If the above fails:
Click Start>Run> type 'cmd'
In the command prompt type 'ipconfig /all'

Could anyone tell me of a firewall (free or paid) that has a taskbar icon that turns to flickering lights whenever internet activity takes place.  I use Windows 7 Pro and would really appreciate anyone letting me know of such a firewall.

I have XP on a second older computer with ZoneAlarm Pro and I love how ZoneAlarm's little 'Z' in the taskbar changes to flickering lights to let you know when there's internet activity.  I have no idea why the company decided to remove this wonderful feature from later versions of the program.  This feature is invaluable for letting me know if there is NO activity where there SHOULD BE ... or if there IS activity when there SHOULDN'T be.

I found a small utility call 'LanLights' that put an activity light in the taskbar, but what I really want is a firewall that has that feature built-in as part of the program.

OK, this is crazy.

I have been connected to my wireless internet for 2 years now, with no major issues. Then, two days ago, when i connected, the icon in the system tray states i am disconnected. (red cross) This the same for both desktop and Laptop

However i am in fact connected and surfing the net even though it says disconnected. Then every 9 minutes, sometimes more often, the desktop, laptop and mac all get disconnected. So i reconnect manually...still red cross in corner.

So i replaced the router, Netgear DG834Gv2 with the same model, and still same problem.

????? Why is this? Its madness i tell you.

A:Connected to internet, but icon says disconnected.

Its ok, I have fixed the problem.

I believe I have replicated this issue and found a solution.

In my testing, this issue was caused when a Win XP SP2 machine established
an automatic connection to a wireless network secured with WPA-PSK and the
security was then removed from the wireless network. Each time that the Win
XP SP2 machine connected to the wireless network after the WPA-PSK security
had been removed the symptoms I described in my post above were experienced.
This happened across various vendors machines, various vendors wireless
adapters and both with and without the vendor's wireless utility installed.

To resolve this issue (assumes you are using Windows to manage your wireless
connections0:

1. Right click the windows wireless network in the system tray, click "View
Available Wireless Networks" and then click "Change Advanced Settings"
(bottom right corner of the Window).

2. Click the "Wireless Networks" tab and remove the wireless network from
the Preferred networks list and reboot the machine.

3. Re-connect to the wireless network.

After re-connecting the issue was resolved.

Thank you for reading guys.

Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
Make and exact model of the broadband modem.
