I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My Windows 8 pro x64 is installed yesterday, behaves exactly like the old one from one week ago, exactly like the previous installation. If I run "sfc /scannow" my CBS.log is around 90-100 MB in size, it was 160 MB at some point. I am booting from a 60GB SSD if it matters. The system runs fine, I have no errors so the amount of errors reported by sfc is just... weird.

Dism reports every time that everything is OK, no errors found. Chkdsk also says nothing is wrong.
I did everything that was written in the sfc tutorials from within Windows, I ran sfc several times, I exported the log to sfcdetails.log and it has over 60 MB...

I looked into the file and all reported errors are the same type, like the one below with "file is missing" :

2013-07-25 09:54:06, Info CSI 00000012 [SR] Cannot repair member file [l:24{12}]"1394ohci.sys" of 1394.inf, Version = 6.2.9200.16384, pA = PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE_AMD64 (9), Culture neutral, VersionScope = 1 nonSxS, PublicKeyToken = {l:8 b:31bf3856ad364e35}, Type = [l:24{12}]"driverUpdate", TypeName neutral, PublicKey neutral in the store, file is missing

Now it's impossible to have the amount of errors reported, something else must be happening here.
Any ideas ?

A:sfc generates 90-160 MB logs

Hello jdaniel,

I totally agree with your logic, your findings, and your conclusion (implied) that sfc /scannow might not be all that it should. Specifically, I have seen many individuals report that "everything is fine" but they are compelled to do a "super-clean" check via running sfc /scannow only to be disappointed that it found many errors. This is why I recommend that users, not having a specific problem, should not run sfc /scannow. With that said, I am running it right now on my perfectly clean test rig. BTW, I looked at your log (briefly) and saw many missing files associated with the AMD architecture. Now, my test rig is an AMD based laptop so let's see what happens. I'll update my thread with my findings and we'll compare notes at that time so hang in ther and I'll be back shortly.

IE8 and a few other applications have been generating the "Not Responding" messages. I bring up Task Manager to close the failing application, and it to fails intermittantly. When I try to close the failing application(s), it requires several attempts to close the application(s); and at times I will get the not responding message from Task Manager itself. The event log for Applications shows several errors of the 1001 and 1002 codes. When I go to the Microsoft Help website the indication is there is no help for these problems. This condition has been happening for several weeks. Any help provided in solving this problem is appreciated. Thank you.

Hi all,

I am working on creatign a standalone CA and a subordinate - both servers are Windows Core. I have *.req file generated from the subordinate, copied over to the standalone CA and now and wanted to get the certificate for subordinate.

When running:

I only get the *.rsp file.
However - when running:

I got the *.rsp AND the *.ful file only, not *.cer, no *.pb7 - nuffin.
Question is - what am I doing wrong here?

Hi folks,
I am not sure exactly when this started to occur, as I mostly use Linux on this box, and it's a while since I tried to install from an exe on the XP part.

When I try to run most installers for applications I get this error.
When I try to run SOME already installed applications (most are okay) I also get this error.

I have no idea what is causing it.
I have tested the ram and it came up okay. I tried to run a checkdsk on C: (which set itself to run on next reboot) but windows failed to boot when it came time.

"Access violation at address 004096DA. Write of address 00400000"

Any tool I've tried to install to try and fix it simply creates the same error and thus can't be installed. So my computer is a bit stuck!!

Does anyone have any bright ideas? I would really rather not reinstall Windows, which is about the only fix I can think of.

With thanks,

A:XP generates Access violation with most .exe's

Further information:
This error actually prevents quite a few programs from running. Not sure just how many.
I did not occur when XP is in safe mode. I can install and run programs to my hearts content.
In Safe Mode I have run various tools to clean up / fix the registry. I also ran a tool from http://wiki.djlizard.net/Repair_Permissions to repair registry permissions (in case that was the issue). All of these tools made a large number of changes. I also ran lastest Adaware and that cleaned a couple of minor things up.

Once back in normal boot mode, the problem persists.

I would really like to fix this.

With thanks,

Hey! I have a strange issue, I couldn't find anything like this. So I bought a Samsung S24D300 a few weeks ago. It works well, didn't have any pixel problems etc. But yesterday I noticed that after some time (let's say around 1 hour after turning it on), it generates a single red stuck pixel, which is only visible on black background. But, after I turn it off for 10 minutes, it disappears. And as I see, it becomes brighter and brighter, still not that big deal (at least I will turn it off more often), but it annoys me, as my previous B300 also had a blue stuck pixel, and I cannot return it now. What can cause this? I will try running JScreenFix and other softwares after it appears, however it does not disappear if I massage it gently. Has anybody had any problems like this? Thank you.

EDIT: now I didn't have the problem for hours, then I started Skyrim, and the red pixel appeared immediately.

Ok, here is my setup.

Win XP installed on Seagate SATA 500GB drive. Win 7 installed on an old spare WD 120GB EIDE drive. After installing Win 7 I was never able to configure a true "dual boot" menu so I change drive priority via BIOS when necessary. EasyBCD never worked. MB is Intel D975XBX2.

Recently after running Win 7 for several days I reverted back to Win XP and at boot a long CHKDSK routine executed. When complete it stated changes had been made to the drive, not sure which one. The XP OS appears to be operating normally.

While operating in Win 7 I accessed the Win XP D: drive to extract media files and some dbases for installed software. I've backed up the dbases just is case there might be some corruption. System files were not accessed (as far as I know anyway).

I'm now very concerned about the Win XP drive as I didn't expect file corruption on the whole disk. Win XP is still my primary OS and this drive contains all my important data and applications. I thought a dual drive install would shield me from any serious problems.

I'd like to continue using Win 7 but file corruption is now a big concern. Does anyone have any suggestions short of physically disconnecting the drive? Is there any true file corruption occuring or am I just being paranoid?

Interestingly, on my E1505 I have set up XP/7 with a proper "dual boot" menu on a partitioned drive and I've never seen the CHKDSK menu.

Finally, I'm loving Windows 7. Can't wait for the RTM.... Read more

This is very strange situation. When asking for a new pasword as a registered user on a website like www.phpmydriectory.com from a Vista computer and then clicking on the confirmation link in the email sent by the website, generates 2 mouseclicks, so that the mail with the new password is sent twice. This only happens on Vista systems. All other OSs work fine, so it is not a bug in the script.
Any idea what the reason might be? And how to solve it?

A:Single click generates 2 mouse clicks

Hi Frlill, and welcome to Vista Forums.

You might have your double-click speed set to fast in the Mouse settings in the Control Panel (Classic View). Check there (in Activities tab for me in Mouse settings) and slow it down a bit and test to see if that helps any.

Hope this helps,

I have a data logging program that runs 24/7 and which displays a continuous record of the data on the CRT. It is really an MSDOS program, but it runs fine on Win98. When it is running, it takes over the entire display. The problem is that it will not tolerate ANY sort of screen output from another program. It immediately locks up, although it doesn't take Windows down with it.

I would like to use the task scheduler to run a little .bat script that uploads a day's worth of data to web page. I can redirect the output generated by various commands in the .bat to the NUL device, and prevent the script from generating any output, but Windows insists on opening a MSDOS window when the .bat runs, even though nothing gets displayed in it. Just opening the window is enough to derail the data collection program. I had hoped that I could do something like "upload.bat > NUL" but it doesn't work.

I could always write the script to run from another machine to control the process remotely, but I'm not thrilled with the idea of keeping a separate machine on line just to run a 10 second task once a day.

Anybody know a way around this?

A:Is it possible to write a .BAT file that generates NO screen output?

If you were running this on Windows 2000 or XP I would suggest using this.

There is a way to do this with a vbscript as well. Basically runs a command shell invisibly in the background without seeing it. I will have to digg up that link.

A bug in Win7's Media Player:
It can play video DVDs that have normal moving picture and sound. But if the picture is a non-moving still photo, the soud comes out with severe dropouts. As soon as the still photo is over and the picture is again a moving one, the sound is ok. An ordinary DVD player connected to a TV played the same DVD without hiccups.

Because the DVD was authored at home, the investigations were easy. The DVD was encoded using variable bitrate. Media Player's sound decoding can't handle the situation, where the video bitrate is low due the not changing picture. No matter, was the sound encoded using PCM, MPEG or Dolby Digital.

When the video in DVD was encoded using constant 6 Mbit/s bitrate MPEG-2, its sound played continuously also in Win7's Media Player. That was a good lesson to learn before giving out some material that must be generally playable.

Chrome is my default browser, and if I have any problems with it, I have Firefox as a backup. I NEVER use IE . . . for anything. . . and don't even have a shortcut on the desktop for it. But I have every function of IE checked for cleaning by CCleaner, and every time I run CCleaner, it finds a huge number of IE temporary files (today it was 54MB) + a couple of cookies. My question is why/how are these created when I don't use IE at all?

I also notice that in the CCleaner settings, Chrome and Firefox have no "Temporary files" check boxes; only IE does. Does that mean that Windows (7) uses IE not just as a browser, but also a place to dump temp files? If so, why, and what are the temp files about?

Hi all,

I am deploying a solution based on Windows 7 computers. These computers use the same sypspreped clonezilla image. For these computers, we must restict access to specific domain users with admin privileges. To do that, after domain integration, we add nedded
domain users in the local administrators group and we delete the default domain users group from the local users Group.

This works fine on several PCs (approximately 25) but on one computer I have a strange issue. When I try to connect on this computer with the local administrator account, I have no problem, everything is working fine. When I try to open a session with a domain
user who is in local administrator group, I have the welcome message, blue background from my desktop, but nothing launches. If I make ctrl + alt + del, I can click on Task Manager but it never launches ...

I have dragged the computer from the domain and made a new domain integration from this computer in the domain. This fixed the problem for several days, but now I'm enoutering the same problem ...

If I add domain users group in the Local Users Group, the problem seems to be fixed. But, for security reasons, I cannot apply this solution. For the moment I took all groups included in the local admin groups and added them in the local users group. The specific
domain users can now open a session on the computer ...

I have a PC with Windows XP Professional. When I print a hard copy of an email, it generates anywhere from 21 to 27 pages, with all but one blank. Generally, the emails being printed are short and should only result in a single page.

This started happening with Outlook Express, so I loaded Outlook 2000 - assuming there was something wrong with my copy of Outlook Express. It didn't help. I still get multiple pages.

This PC resides on a network. I deleted and reloaded all my printer drivers, which did not help.

I have a Logitech Wingman Force joystick that is about 8 years old. When I do a normal boot with the joystick on a USB port it's detected but I always get a MULTIPLE_IRP_COMPLETE_REQUESTS blue screen of death.

When I do a safe boot with networking the joystick is detected and there is no BSOD.

My computer is a Dell Inspiron 9400, Centrino Duo T5600 3.4 GHz, Windows XP 32-bit SP 3, NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900 GS, 2 GB RAM.

I haven't used this this joystick for more than a year, but previously it worked flawlessly with this computer.

I have updated my BIOS and my device drivers.

Logitech suggested reinstalling the driver (result: reinstalling LGS 4.30 or 4.60 didn't help) or trying other USB ports (no improvement).

Microsoft's knowledge base didn't have anything relevant.

I searched on this forum but couldn't find a solution.

Any help would be much appreciated. I really like this joystick and would like to continue using it.

But this only lasts for a few seconds; the thumbnails get replaced by Vista's generic landscape icon. I'm not sure when this problem started -- at first, I was not bothered by it, since I wasn't working with my photos, so I didn't pay attention to it. But it has persisted for at least a month, in all folders with pictures in them. And I've made sure that the "Show thumbnails" options were set in both "Folder Options" and "Advanced System Settings". Maybe it was from me changing the registry a long time ago? I'm not sure. So, if someone knows a key I could check to turn on/off thumbnails, that would be useful.Or, if you have any other idea how this problem occurred, I'd be really grateful. Thank you!

Hi, It seems my computer has been infected by virus/malware. Here are the symptoms. When I start up my PC "Windows Security Alert" asks me to block a program from accessing internet connections. The name of the file that the "Security Center" is trying to block keeps changing, the format being nnnn.exe (where nnnn is some randomly generated number). Also the "Microsoft Security Essentials" displays an attention message asking me to clean the computer. When I clean the computer the effect lasts only for the current session and when I start up the computer next time, I am back to the same problem discussed above. In addition to these symptoms, there is another that needs to be discussed. When I access "Windows Task Manager", it shows two entries in the "Applications" tab named "project1". I don't have any application named project1 running on my computer, so this seems to me like some application running in background. I have run HijackThis and I am attaching the log file. Please help to clean my computer. My operating system is windows xp and I am using "Microsoft Security Essentials" as my anti-malware.I am attaching the following files1. After-StartUp.GIF (The deskop after starting my PC)2. Cleaned-Up-Items.GIF (Microsoft Security Essentials log after cleaning up the computer)3. TaskManager.GIF (The application entries named "project1" can be seen)4. HijackThis.log (The HijackThis log).regar... Read more

The processes listed in the title have slowed down my internet browsing and consume a lot of CPU and memory. When I notice these processes running, at least 500 MB of temporary internet files accumulate at least once per day. In task manager, there is one dllhost process that denies my access from altering it. It seems to resurrect another dllhost process as well as several of the other processes mentioned in the title at random intervals of up to 10 minutes.
When I boot up my computer, the dllhost process that I can't alter sometimes isn't active, but it reactivates if I open my libraries or try to open any files by going through the directory.
I suspect this may be the remnants of the same (or another) dllhost-named malware that was generating iexplorer.exe and other dllhost processes that consumed high memory and CPU a few weeks ago. It may have been removed by Malwarebytes and CCleaner, but I don't remember.
I was afraid to use combofix by myself, which is why I'm seeking help to get rid of this malware for good. McAfee and Malewarebytes haven't detected a problem either. I backed up my data and am attaching the dds logs.

A:dllhost.exe generates several rundll, svchost, and regsvr processes

Hello and welcome.  Please follow these guidelines while we work on your PC:Malware removal is a sometimes lengthy and tedious process. Please stick with the thread until I’ve given you the “All clear.”  Absence of symptoms does not mean your machine is clean! Please do not run any scans or install/uninstall any applications without being directed to do so.Please note that the forum is very busy and if I don't hear from you within five days this thread will be closed.   Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.Press Scan button. It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please copy and paste it to your reply. The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply.

Hello, Does anyone have heat problems with the latest Nvidia Optimus driver from the 6 Sept 2019? I am running W10 Pro and after updating to the latest video drivers started to hear the fan spinning when idle and can observe higher CPU temperatures. I have a script (Kindly originated by Golden in this thread http://www.sevenforums.com/backup-restore/317082-using-task-scheduler-fails-run-robocopy. )

Script robocopy I:\DATA M:\Backup_DATA /e /np /log:backup_log.txt which is run at shutdown.

In my M:\ drive I have two identically named folders: 'Backup_DATA', one (call it A) containing the correct 70 folders and 1003 files 295mb. Dated 11 January 2014 11:19:41 in properties, right click.
The second copy (Call it B) contains 2 folders 0 files 0 Bytes and is dated the same 11 January 2014 11:19:41 in properties, right click.

Although they are both shown on my M:\ drive as: (A) Backup_DATA dated 10/1/2014 at 16.46 and (B) Backup_DATA dated 9/1/2014 18.36.

I am not able to delete the ghost copy (B) as when I try I receive the following popup:
"Could not find this item. This is no longer located in M:\ verify its location and try again"

Not sure where to go from here, any suggestions? !!

I am unable to delete or rename the folder 'Backup_DATA', however inside the folder is another folder named 'e' and that contains another folder named 'np'. The 'np' folder is empty.
Now it seems quite a coincidence that both 'e' and 'np' make up part of the Robocopy script .

I am still unable to delete these sub folders as each one no longer exists on my M: drive.

A:Robocopy and Group Policy generates 1 real & 1 Ghost file.

Well, folder removed

Tried to do this in dos same problem, although it was shown it did not exist! Searched around and came across Unlocker. Using Unlocker I still could not delete the Backup_DATA folder itself, it remained even after the suggested re-boot. I had to delete the 'np' folder first, then the 'e' folder, and then the 'Backup_DATA' folder.

It seems Unlocker succeeded where anything else I tried failed.

I am attempting to restore Windows XP Media Center Edition on a Compaq Presario SR1750NX Desktop PC using the System Restore option activated by pressing F10. Upon pressing F10, the system appears to load the PC Restore files but when it tries to execute them, it generates the following error:

STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of
0xc0000034 (0x00000000 0x00000000).
The system has been shut down.

No CD's are available as the machine shipped with the System Restore feature on a protected partition.
I would prefer a "restore" solution, as opposed to other reinstall options, in order to maintain use of additional software (such as Windows Office) that came preinstalled on the machine.

Any suggestions on how I might clear the issue generating the error message so I can proceed with the system restore?
Any suggestions on how I might otherwise approach the problem?

Thanks in advance as any and all assistance is much appreciated.

A:Compaq Presario generates Fatal System Error when attempting PC Restore

If you decide you need the 2-CD system recovery disc kit for that Compaq Presario SR1750NX (EL445AA) desktop, you can purchase it from Computer Surgeons HP Recovery Center for $27.00 plus shipping.

That desktop was manufactured in November 2005, so HP will no longer have it available for purchase.

The kit will allow it to be reverted back to its original factory condition - complete with all the software and "bloatware" that came in it.

If the hard drive dies and needs to be replaced, the kit is going to be needed anyway to get that desktop going again.
