Inconsistent error warnings: Errors detected, yet no errors detected

Q: Inconsistent error warnings: Errors detected, yet no errors detected

My laptop has suddenly started running CHKDSK during startup. After it completes and finishes booting I go to Properties > Tools > Error Checking of my C drive and click ?Check?. It says errors were found on this drive and to repair drive now to prevent data loss. I click to run it, the system reboots, I see the prompt to cancel CHKDSK by pressing any key, let it run, the screen remains blank with just the little spinning dots. It finishes (in less than a minute, which is faster than it usually takes) and loads to desktop. I check the C drive properties again and it still says there are errors and to repair.

Running CHKDSK from CMD prompt I get ?Windows has scanned the file system and found no problems. No further action is required.? Running a 3rd-party disk checker (Disk Doctor, Tune-Up Utilities) also reports no errors. Yet the properties dialog continues to warn that there are errors.

I can?t be certain when this started. Just noticed this yesterday when I booted up (I don?t usually stick around and watch the computer boot). Windows has all the latest updates/patches. This is an HP ENVY laptop that came with Windows 10 pre-installed.

Anyone have any ideas?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My computer was scanned by Error Guard and it detected 353 errors in my computer. And the truth is, my computer has been freezing, rebooting all by itself, and its really slow, so i know something is wrong with it. But i need to pay $30 to register Error Guard before I can use it to fix these problems.

What exactly is Error Guard?
Is there a free version of Error Guard that i can download?

Thanks for your help.

Try running 'SpyBot S&D' and fix all it finds.Do the same with Adaware. Half the time these payfor programs only fix minor stuff like deleting defunk short cuts etc. Let us know how you get on.

My 2-year old laptop keeps on freezing frequently even after I have downloaded all the suggested software and hardware updates, after cleaning the fan with compressed air, after BIOS update and after I formatted it. Extensive system and memory checks show no errors. It works smooty for the rest, but it is becoming impossible to use it and I don't know what else to try (the warrantee, of course, expired less than 2 months ago). Does anyone have a suggestion? Thanks!

Hello and thanks for being here.
I have a problem that started when I was trying to find a keycode for a game I already bought. (I had lost the box, thus no keycode) I know I shouldnt get progams like this, and trust me, I wont again.
As soon as I clicked it, I was nuked with spyware, a new background, etc, which all were promptly taken care of with my software Ad-Ware, Malwarebyte, and AVGs free AV. I thought I was clear. But now my Firefox keeps erroring out, and rendering itself useless, begging to be restarted. Ive swtiched to IE but I prefer Firefox.
Also, When I restart, I have a new set of malware that appear when I check it with Malwarebyte or Ad-Ware, no matter how much I cleaned it the time before.

I did the 5 but I had a little trouble with Panda (I thought it was going to do something after I Disinfected it) and IESpyad now uses ZoneOut and not sure how to use it. It gives me a list of sites but I dont know how to apply it.

First of all, if this is in the wrong place, I'm so sorry!

Tonight I came to my computer(windows xp) to a new desktop saying;

"Warning! Spyware threat has been detected on your PC.

Your computer has several fatal errors due to spyware activity.

Your IP address is ##.##.##.### and via this address an unautorized access was gained by another computer. It is strongly recommended to install an antispyware software to close all security vulnerabilities."

I noticed it is actually a website put on my desktop, because I'll go change it, and it comes right back.

Also I get popups asking me to download an antispyware program(I can't remember the name but it will probably popup soon again).

I also get little warnings up from my start bar...

"Your security and privacy are at risk" (it went down before I could get it all typed!)
"Your computer is working slowly!" - and asks me to download something.
and others.

Oh and when I open my internet explorer, it has a different home page, but I checked and it still says "About:Blank" like I had it. It says;

"Possible spyware infection has been detected.

I'm getting the alert, "Windows detected a hard disk problem" and I'm advised to backup the computer. The computer is backed up, so what I want to do is run a chkdsk on the hard drive. When I try to do so on the C: drive I get the message, "Windows
can't check the disk while it's in use. Do you want to check for hard disk error the next time you start your computer?" I do select 'Schedule disk check', then restart the computer.

Nothing happens.
I've done this several time. I will say that I have a boot manager that allows me to select among operating systems at boot time, with the default being Windows 7. Could this be short-circuiting the chkdsk on restart? If so, is there some other way to accomplish
the check/repair?

Keyboard not detected, Mouse not detected. Fatal Error, System Halted.

That's what the system said, in DOS, on the black screen. Of course, I had my mouse and keyboard unplugged at the time, because I had just unplugged everything to move the computer.

Anyways, I plugged the keyboard and mouse in, restarted the computer, and everything started normally.

My question is, what is with this error? Vista can't boot up if I don't have a keyboard and mouse plugged in? It's not a big deal, but it seems like very odd behavior.

A:Keyboard not detected, Mouse not detected. Fatal Error, System Halted.

This has nothing to do with Vista whatsoever. As you said it showed up on the black screen with white text, which is the boot screen. The computer hasnt even started loading windows yet. The fatal eror occurs because you have no input device. The computer recognises this, and given that they are important, it puts a warning up that there is no connection.
It is completely normal, really, and whatever OS you have, its going to do the same thing.

I'm getting blue screens when I play moderately to heavily intensive games on my laptop. The location listed in the minidumps has been inconsistent, but may be pointing to a driver. I wonder if someone might be able to help me with BSOD errors that I've been getting for the last 2 months. I've tried pretty much everything I can think of, and I'm having no luck figuring out what problem is.

The crashes are pretty random, constant, and the error codes (dump file attached), are inconsistent. Occasionally the comptuer will just freeze rather than BSOD, but that's not too frequent. I often get numerous crashes right when turning on the computer, but after 3-5 attempts, I can usually get it to fully boot, and stay on long enough to work on. But then it'll BSOD later.

The only thing I've noticed with the BlueScreenView results is that under the "caused by driver" category, I see ntoskrnl.exe more often than anything else. I've googled this, but haven't yet found any solution.

The Bug Check Strings are all over the place... nothing jumps out as being seen too often.

I have 40 Windows 7 machines in a single domain on a Server 2008R2. I have a handful of machines that are refusing to map to some individual folders on the server to which the credentials supplied have full access.  For example:
I have the following folders on my DATAPART1 (D:)
\shared
\shared\profiles
\shared\marketing
When I log in as an admin on one of these offending machines, I can map \\dc\shared\marketing
but not    \\dc\shared\profiles.  I have full rights to both folders.  I also cannot map \\dc\shared.  I cannot find anything which prevents the folder mappings.  When I go to another
machine with my credentials, all mappings work fine.  But, when I login to a third machine, \dc\shared\profiles works, but \\dc\shared\marketing does not.
What would prevent a individual machine from mapping to a folder to which the user has full rights?  The machines that are having issues are consistent in the folders they refuse to map to.

I have two problems concerning my two computers.
1- for many months, when i turn on my computer, it says on the black board "Warning! Insert Key Pressed or Clock Gen. Watch Dog Reset. Please enter then in Setup, and save the settings before exit!", and for me to continue, i have to press F1. and now it always verifies the consistence of the disk. what does this mean?

2- in some specific folders my portable computer has started to make errors, i don't know why. it just says something like: "explorer.exe has found an error and it is going to close" the problem is, my portable disk is making this error too, and it's urgent for me to save files there...

Hi All,

Would really appriciate any help I can get with the following!

I'm unable to open Outlook (2000) as I keep getting an error message everytime I try to open the program. The error message is:

"Errors have been detected in the file C:\Documents & Settings\my name\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst. Quit Outlook and all enabled mail applications, and then use the Inbox Repair Tool (Scanpst.exe) to diagnose and repair erros in the file. For more information about the Inbox Repair Tool see Help"

(If I could open Outlook and "see Help" I would! )

The power went off in my flat last night....maybe this is a consequence? Anyways, any help is appriciated!

My Windows 8.1 PC used to do a full Defender scan in about 8 minutes. A few days ago it wouldn't complete a scan after 13 hours, the progress bar was only like %3 done. I made a thread. Someone suggested scan in safe mode. I didn't do safe mode but I scanned again and after about 15 hours, it completed.
I Scan at least once a day and same with spybott. Spybot only ever finds Minor 'green' threats like cookies or browser history etc. Defender has never popped up or had a scan finish saying that anything was found.
But after this Defender scan finally finished, I checked (I think for the first time ever) the Detected Items list in it and found about 8 Sever 'Exploit" items. I should have written them down I guess but I just did Remove All. The Severe items said they were only from about 3 weeks to a week ago detected which is in line with how the scan was all of a sudden taking forever.
Should I worry about this?
I scanned again and as always, No Detected Items are found. the Detected Items list is also blank.

What else can I run like hijack this, malware bytes etc that won't interfere with Spybot and Defender? I have tried using as many scan tools as I can but there's always some stupid thing that makes one cause my main Defender protection to disable.
Hackers should be put in a dark cell forever.

Hi peoples!

As my subject line suggests, I'm having more than a couple of computer difficulties. When I start the computer, I get a screen freeze and have to press Ctrl,Alt,Del once before any programs will startup.
A lot of probs with internet connection and slowness while surfing as well as a lot of pop up ads in my face.
There are system boxes coming up with registry and dll errors and the whole system seems SLOW.

I use spybot regularly, but it doesn't seem to pick up everything??!
One error that comes up often is -
0x00404f94 Windows/System32/exploer.exe Application Error

So I pretty much have the works going on here!

Sorry but I don't see any antivirus software running there and you have a lot of virus/trojan type processes running.

You need to do an on-line scan to remove the problems and also think about installing one (AVG is good, and its free). Then post a log back once that is cleaned up.

Hi, this is my first time in here so please bear with me if I posted in wrong place, ty.

I have just reset my pc using win8 disc ( Fujitsu AH512 Laptop) and I did scannow under administrator , some files were missing but repaired itself, I went to view the event viewer in comp management and I have errors and warnings in there, is this normal after a reset and is it something I need to worry about now , also laptop seems to be running good, antivirus is ok, scans are ok the only thing that seems to be an issue is I downloaded comodo dragon but it wont open, it asks what do I want to open with then just re-downloads it ?, thank you in advance for any help or constructive comments .

A:Event Errors/Warnings

A lot of those "errors" one sees in event viewer are really just timeouts and such that are corrected or redone milliseconds later. The event viewer is there actually when trouble shooting a specific problem and actually meaningless for day to day checking.

If you want to see a well filtered view for programs and windows just go to Action Center and open Maintenance, then click "view reliability history", and it shows you program updates, crashes and response failures. If an error happens once or once in a Blue Moon, it's nothing to worry about. It's when they show up all the time that something needs to be done.

If something is giving constant errors/warnings then right click it>view details-and you get information on it, specially the Process ID, that is then used in Event Viewer to filter it an see when & how often this happens to help troubleshoot or post when you need help.

Too many people here look at Event Viewer(there is a reason it's hidden) and panic seeing all the errors(many of which happen because of specific user settings when windows wanted to something and can't or was interrupted). So don't worry unless you have a real problem.

I hope this helps.--Cliff

Hey folks.
I suppose I should start by saying that I consider myself to have abouve averge computer skills in regards to OS, hardware and the. I also have below average typing skills.(superfast hunt and peck) I also know enough to know when to stop chasing files and ask someone else!
So heres the deal.I noticed a few days ago my system was acting quirky. "window exploer stopped working;Outlook has encountered anerrer..." things like that. Iknow my system fairly well(not great). I just started using x64 Home Premium like 6 mos ago. (Former XP Pro lover) Yeah I know, late bloomer. I use Malwarebytes, Defender, as well as Superantispy (on bootable CD with PE). Nice. Most of which I use every few days,if not more. None of which found any issues. My antivirus on the other hand seems to have detected, but says was unable to repair/quarrantine.

The log files it had are no longer present.(No worries,I made a manual log before it dissappeared
There are a few other log files I saved as well, along with event viewer logs.
Sorry, but I didnt want to take liberties and post a loig without being asked for one. Seemed rude. But here are a fre of the errors I found, as well as some processes that I feel certain are NOT OS files or exe.

Disabled indexing.
Remot access conn manager was using TONS of resources. I couldnt disable it in services(options were shaded out) But I managed to taskkill it.Not sure if the Perfmon events are relevant, seeing how resources are being vamped, but just to give a few:
Event 302
Event 351
Mostly stating usb drivers causing issues...?Oh, and I was able to open task manager. In the resource monitor, the image name is Taskmgr...the description is Acronis disk director. No clue there.
Localsystemnetworkrestricted (SVCHOST.exe is doing the majority of the read/write Its eve trying to write files to 2nd drive. Seems to be backup files, but I have auto backup off.
I just checked perfmon, and now LOTS of files being written to I:\ drive.
I'm leaning toward Trend being corrupt, and allowing an event to occur that triggered this mess. It says summary report for past 2 days 0 incidents. I just copied its log stating an infection this morning,so...yeah.
One process SFCTLCOM.exe description was to control all Trend functions. It now says TMPWF.exe controls all Trend functions.

I think I have been the victim of some kind of scam from someone calling themselves logmein123.com.
I did not do any of the things suggested so I am pretty sure nothing has happened to the computer but the scam started by directing me to the errors and warnings displayed in COMPUTER MANAGEMENT>SYSTEM.
I was surprised to find about a dozen errors and about the same number of warnings.
Is this important?
If so what should I do about it?

Hello - I hope someone might be able to help me. Several weeks ago I downloaded and installed what I thought was a legitimate program for driving a new digital microscope that I use for my work. I'm usually a very cautious browser, and only download from legitimate sites, but this time it looks like I goofed. The installer made the usual offers of adware, which I declined, but then went ahead and installed a bunch anyway. The immediate symptoms were attempted browser hijacks (some successful, some blocked by Avast). I cleaned up what I could manually (including uninstalling the digital microscope program), but there was at least one adware program that would not fully uninstall through add/remove programs. Over the next week or so I looked up what to do about it, and eventually ran through the malware removal guide listed here: https://www.reddit.com/r/techsupport/comments/33evdi/suggested_reading_official_malware_removal_guide/. The tools found a bunch of things (all apparently adware, nothing nasty) and removed them. After three cycles through the malware tools, everything was coming up clean (no reported threats/infections).

However, since that time, I get periodic Avast "threat detected" warnings (thi... Read more

The warnings are Event ID 6000 and 1530. The errors are Event ID 8193. Please note attachments for Event

My AV appears to play into it. I uninstalled the avast! AV with the avast! Tool and did a further clean-up

We have searched for solutions to absolutely no avail. Please advise on this matter- any help will be greatly

Well it has been a number of days so I wanted to give an update on what has transpired since I wrote this. I uninstalled IE7 and reinstalled it and that seemed to take care of most of my problems, including being able to download from Firefox, open email in Outlook and generally access most of my programs relying on web access.

My two remaining problems are that I can not open links in Outlook emails (General Failure error message) and I still can not access the Help & Support function. Most other problems have been resolved.

If from looking at the original log it appears I didn't have a virus than please let me know and I'll post on the other issues in another forum.

i just found out about this event viewer and i have a 'few' questions!
under security i have numerous 'failure audit' the info section says the reason is unknown user name or a bad password~if this is talking about the windows PW you can change, i don't even have one on right now~anyway it lists system, my name, and anonomous~who is anonomous? my error list is crazy~i have success and failure all over~lol
i guess this is a terrible post because i don't even know how to ask my questions! i'm so confused~anonomous was one of the sucessful logons~am i being hacked?

Hi all,

I kindly require assistance with Warnings and Errors I get in event viewer, I know some of them are really minor but still if possible, I'd like to get rid of them.
I've attached the system event log file.

I don't do anything in particular to trigger them, they just accumulate with time.

Thanks in advance.

Hi

I am getting a lot of warnings and errors in Windows 7 (x64) Event Viewer

The errors are generally:

Failed extract of third-party root list from auto update cab at: <http://www.download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/v3/static/trustedr/en/authrootstl.cab> with error: The data is invalid.
The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load: EIO_XP

The warnings are usually related to DNS Client Events and usually have the format:

"Name resolution for the name sdmc.devicevm.com timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded."

Sometimes a different address or IP address appears instead of smdc.devicevm.com (e.g. 202.11.168.192.in-addr.arpa and others)

The EIO_XP driver appears to be associated with ASUS Smart Doctor which I do not have installed, I haven't been able to find anything more about it. Can anyone help me with these problems?

Thanks

Do you mean event log; I'm not sure-if so---here's a reference guide for what the events mean, if you are choosing not to use the event log's MS online support link... click on the xp link at this pagelink ;

For the past month or so, I been experiencing the following on an HP Pavillion tx2000 notebook:

The system will simply shut down. It doesn't go to sleep or hibernate, it shuts itself down like a normal shutdown with the exception that it doesn't prompt to save any open work as Windows normally would if I initiated the shut down. All unsaved work is lost. There are no errors. No BSODs. When I reboot the system, it boots normally as if nothing had happened. I do not see anything exceptional in the Event log, but I'll admit that I am not exactly sure what I'd be looking for.

This happens after some period of inactivity. Sometimes after fifteen minutes, sometimes a half hour, but if I leave the thing unattended for any length of time, it will most certainly be shut down when I return. I've even seen it happen while I was in the middle of typing once! Prior to this happening, I could leave the machine running overnight without such problems.

I've gone through all of the power settings available and basically told it "never go to sleep or turn anything off under any circumstances!" I'm not sure what other settings I could change to prevent this. I've checked the cpu and other component temperatures using PC Wizard 2012 and CoreTemp and neither of them report anything exceptional (although this machine and several other HPs I have run notoriously hot). BIOS is up to date and BIOS diagnostics do not reveal any problems.

I'm thinking of just wiping the machine and loadin... Read more

A:System Just Shuts Down - No Errors/Warnings

Dom
Run a full anti virus scan
Download and run a full, updated scan with Malwarebytes, if negative
Lets try a small test. Boot up in safe mode, leave the computer on overnight and lets see if the problem happens.

You may also get a clue to the cause by going to the event viewer, after the problem occurs. Just go to search, by the start button, and type event viewer. In viewer go to administrative and look for critical and errors at the time of the shut down.

While messing around trying to solve my problem in the post immediately below, I went into my Event Viewer and discovered 256 errors and warnings. I've had this computer 5 days. Is that an usually high number for 5 days of usage? Some of the errors are dated 3 months before I got the computer. Does this mean there were errors in the initial installations?

A:Event Viewer: How many errors and warnings are too many?

It depends a great deal on what the "errors" are. Some errors are pretty much meaningless. Other errors about services not starting and so on may be temporary with a later entry showing that the service did, in fact, start. If you are not having obvious problems with your machine, and you do not know what the entries in the log mean, save yourself the anxiety and don't read them, or find someone to read them that knows what they mean.

Hi guys!

Its just been couple of days since I knew what the feature of "Event Viewer" is and I check Event Viewer for regular basis but now whenever I open Event Viewer and click on "Administrative Events" then it says "Query error" and the message is:
Log Error
Microsoft-Windows-GWX-ins/Debug The specified channel could not be found. Check channel configuration
Microsoft-Windows-GWX-ins/operational The specified channel could not be found. Check channel configuration

And apart from this I have several other warnings/errors But I want to fix this issue first so that I can post other errors. Thanks for your time guys! please reply if you have any idea about this! please! please!
