Will Windows 10 increase or decrease support questions?

Q: Will Windows 10 increase or decrease support questions?

Good day!  I am an IT Systems Support Engineer and give support mostly to business clients, but also to some residential clients.  Due to the recent growth of Windows 10 upgrades, I'm curious if anyone has noticed an increase or decrease with questions about Windows 10.  I throw in decreasing, since I've been asked quite a bit about Win 10.
I am new to posting on this site, but I've used this site before, when I came across something that I hadn't seen before.  I really enjoy this site and when it helped me with an issue, I always put this site as a resource.
Thanks for reading and I am eager to know anybody's thoughts about the topic title.

Preferred Solution: Will Windows 10 increase or decrease support questions?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Will Windows 10 increase or decrease support questions?

I haven't installed Win 10 yet...but I have seen the introduction of every Windows system since Win 95 and it occurs to me that what is currently reflected is the same amount (or even more) of puzzlement, rhetoric, and uncertainty...that comes with every version of Windows...until the first SP is issued.  Once that occurs, users seem to settle down and have become more familiar with what are imagined problematical situaitons, as opposed to real problems where they need/want assistance with specific types of system situations.

Can you please tell me how to increase and decrease a preset internal hard drive with programs already installed in the set C: drive location and move it so I can install new programs in without affecting the opening of the program?

What I am trying to say is , Example When I installed window 7 long time ago on my computer. I have only one internal a 120GB HD on the C: drive. That was example set partition 80 for C; and created D: drive 40 GB from the original one drive. I installed programs in before that is now filled up almost all of drive C: 80GB partitioned. If I move (some) of the preinstalled program to D: drive will the moved programs stop working? Some program demand to be installed to only C: or it will not install at all.

Alright, so this is about a sound problem, but my tests make me think it's something to do with Windows 7. Here's the issue :

I have a SteelSeries Merc Stealth keyboard with buttons for increasing and decreasing volume. The decreasing volume works, but the increasing does not. So, if I want to increase the volume (in a game, for instance), I would have to alt-tab. I thought this was because my keyboard was somehow broken and that particular button didn't work anymore.

However, I just received a brand new pair of Corsair HS1 headphone. On the cable of the headphones are buttons to increase and decrease the volume of Windows. So, as you may guess, the decreasing button works, but not the increasing one.

Since the probably of having two defective items, one being new for the exact same problem being so slim, my guess is that something in Windows 7 is off. So, can anyone help?

Here's my specs :
Gigabyte X58A-UD3R
Intel i7 Quad Core @2.67GHz
Corsair TX750 750W PSU
Corsair Vengeance 3x4BG CL9-9-9
Gigabyte Radeon HD 6870
Corsair Vengeance 12GB 3x4GB DDR3-1600 CL9-9-9-24 Triple Channel
Windows 7 64-bits w/ Service pack 1

A:Can decrease volume, but can't increase

Just to specify as a proof the buttons work, when I use a program that enable Global keys like Winamp, the volume of that program will increase or decrease. It's the Windows volume that doesn't increase.

As the title states. I'm planning on trading my dad laptops. I do audio production and gaming. I have an i3 and the cpu is clocked at 2.4 ghz and he has an i5 clocked at 1.8. How much of a difference will this impact performance? For better or worse?

Im curious because I had a desktop a while back and it had a Core 2 Duo @ 2.8 and I went to this i3 @2.4 laptop and the cpu sucks in comparison to the desktop...I was originally thinking the i3 would be a increase since it was newer architecture.

I would still think on the graphics side its definitely an upgrade because the i3 uses Intel HD Graphics and it sucks...it doesnt even use opengl. The other uses a Nvidia GeForce GT 740M.

A:(2.4 Ghz i3) to (1.8 Ghz i5) Increase or decrease in perf?

The difference between the desktop and laptop is multifaceted. Desktop probably had faster hard drive, dedicated video, and optimized for performance versus laptop optimized for battery life.

And the core i3/5/7 each do graphics onboard. The slower the cpu, the more impact the graphics will have on overall performance. Core i3 are budget machines, for basic tasks. They are not really suitable for gaming or video and music production. The core i5 will suit better in these areas.

But when I am upstairs I am lucky to reach 2mb/s
Downstairs I get 10mb/s(normal for me)

Could this be a driver issue?

A:A big decrease increase internet speed,

Could be a driver issue, a signal noise issue (even if you are getting 5 bars) or could be your upstairs PC is using the G band when the downstairs is using N band.

I just got a Lenovo Z460 running on windows7.
By default, the harddisk is split into c:\ and d:\

I want to decrease the disk space of c drive and then use this additional space to increase the disk space of d drive (the logical drive)

To decrease the disk space in c drive, I go to computer management/storage/disk management and then at the c drive, I right click the mouse and then choose "shrink volumn". I successfully shrinked c drive and now I got an unallocated space but how do I allocate this new space to d drive. The "extend volume" in d drive is greyed.

A:Solved: how to decrease and increase disk space

The windows partitioning tool is somewhat limited in that it will only extend a partition to the right, so you're going to need an additional tool.

I personally use a Live Linux CD with an included partitioning program, usually GPartEd. If you're not familiar or comfortable with Linux then someone else will have to recommend another tool.

Keep in mind, whatever tool you use will take quite awhile to extend that partition because it not only extends the partition but also moves all the data to the beginning of the newly extended partition. It looks like you've got about 10-11 Gigs of data on there so it can take possibly half an hour or more.

A somewhat convoluted solution possible with the windows partition tool would be:

1) Create a new partition with the unallocated space. Let's call it F drive.

2) Copy/paste all the data from the D drive into the new F drive.

3) Delete the D drive.

4) Extend the F drive to include the now unallocated space on the right of the new F drive.

5) Rename F drive to whatever you want.

Hi, I just bought a new computer with Windows 7 and a 1 TB hard drive. Windows 7 recycle bin came configured with about 40 GB of space allotted to it. I want to decrease its capacity (down to about 10 GB) in order to increase the available space on my hard drive. However, when I decreased the recycle bin size, there was no apparent change when I left double-clicked on My Computer and it showed the amount of free space on my c: drive. Here's my question: how can I decrease the recycle bin and have this extra space show up on my c: drive as available storage space?

I have an HP Pavillion also, (a dv5t) and don't have this problem, however, here are the touchpad customizations. Try re-setting them, and maybe that will help. (I've put in how I set mine. This question is for anyone who is a support desk technician answering calls/e-mails from Web application users:

What are the top 10 troubleshooting questions *you* ask the *user* when trying to diagnose their issue?

Example: "Is your machine plugged in?" (extreme example)

I'm talking about the most basic things you have to ask the users to check to potentially troubleshoot them out of the call queue before they are escalated to a trouble ticket for an actual issue.

I have been working with Ried on an issue concerning a Dell Inspiron 1300 laptop, Windows XP Home, SP3. The laptop became infected with the rootkit.zeroaccess exploit, which was successfully removed.
The laptop has Avast! A/V that apparently removed the IPSEC and TCP/IP parts of the O/S. Here is the thread:

I had an old Windows XP Home CD from an old Dell desktop that I used to have. I slipstreamed SP3, so that I could do a repair install per Ried's instructions.

The laptop has a valid XP key, which I verified with Jelly Bean Keyfinder. When I try to use that key, I get a message that the key is not valid.

Is there a way to find the key that the slipstreamed CD has embedded? I got rid of that machine several years ago, and if I wrote the key down, have since lost it. But, it should use the original key.

Ried suggested that I post here for guidance. Thanks in advance!

I've never heard of this. Are you installing the correct sound driver when you reinstall? The generic Windows installed "HD Audio Codec" is a basic function sound driver, the PC or Motherboard vendor, as applicable, sound driver is preferred.

Hey all,

A couple days ago I updated my windows because it was one of those important security updates. The update is called KB2286198 and after I got done installing the update and restarted my PC, I noticed my PC's performance decreased. I mainly noticed the performance decrease in one of the games I play because the frame rate dropped. So in an attempt to get rid of the issue I tried system restoring to right before I updated. That didn't work, so I tried reinstalling the update to see if I'd have better luck with it the second time around. That also didn't work. Finally, just so the update wasn't on my comp, and until I could find a way of fixing the issue, I system restored back to before I installed the update again. Mind you before this update my comp's speed was fine.

So now my comp is still slown down and the update isn't even installed on my comp. Could it be possible that the update left remnents of itself on my comp that could be making my comp's performance suffer? If so how would I get those remnents off my comp. Or could it be that the update played with some internal settings in my windows?

I'm basically at a loss here because I keep my computer very tidy by doing defrags, cleaning up unnecessary files, cleaning my comps registry, scanning for viruses and spyware, doing a disc check, and defragging the comps registry.

If you guys have any suggestions on how I can recover my PC performance that the KB2286198 update messed with, I'd greatly appreciat... Read more

Hi, guys...looking for an assist for this issue. I'm used to using a dual monitor setup and having a bunch of windows open, spread all over between the two monitors. Opportunity came up to get a (cheap) 32" HD LCD TV...so I thought it would be worthwhile to swap the dual monitors out for one massive screen. It's great...picture is fine...but...not only is the screen LARGE...so is everything else on the screen...icons, text, application windows, etc.

I'm basically wondering...is there a way to decrease the size of everything so that I can utilize the one screen as I would a dual screen setup? I'm not talking about just shrinking the icons, etc...I'd like to be able to have numerous windows open just as I would with dual monitors without piling them on one another.

Hopefully that makes sense what I'm asking...

Thanks for your help!

My AOC monitor came with software that let you split / adjust your monitor configuration. I don't use it but perhaps 3rd party software such as displayfusion might work for you.

Dear all

Almost about to take 'the plunge' and dual boot Windows 98SE with Windows 2000 Pro Upgrade.

I have a few simple yes/no type questions to ask. Please help out if you can.

I know W2K supports FAT32, it can be installed on a FAT32 drive. But, I want W98 as FAT32 and W2K as NTFS5.

Q1: Will W2K be able to read my W98 drive?

Regardless, I know W98 won't be able to read NTFS drive. That's what I want.

Would this work...

Drive 1: W98 on FAT32
Drive 2: Partition 1: W2K on NTFS
Partition 2: FAT32

Q2: Can aplications installed to partition 2 be accessed from both operating systems (but will need to be installed on both OSs to twig the registry)?

If the answer to my first question was no, I guess the answer to my second question would be no.

Q3: So, question 2 again but with partion 2 being FAT16. Would that work?

(Don't know if Ruel will read this - but it's good to know you're still helping out - I read the IWin list since it started and you helped me out a few times.)

I also noticed that the bottom of the laptop is magnatized, where the speakers are located. Could be the magnet from the speakers? (not sure)
Notebook should not have electrical charge. Do you get static shocks?
Are you standing/walking/sitting on carpeted floor?
Unless you change the options in view the photo thumbnails should not change. You can go to View menu and change the view back to Medium Icons or thumbnails etc.

A:Suggestions to increase my PC's performance (increase fps)

First thing I would suggest is a new system, anything with a P4 in it needs to be upgraded to a new platform.
Second thing I would suggest is a dedicated graphics card, if you are using the machine for gaming.

System Requirements

Minimum System Requirements

2 GHz processor
1 GB RAM (Windows Vista and 7 users will want 2 GB of RAM or more)
2 GB available hard disk space
Shader version 2.0 capable video card
Support for DirectX v9.0c or better
Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7 (Mac OS and Linux are currently not supported)
Recommended System Requirements

3 GHz processor
2 GB of RAM (Windows Vista and 7 users will want 4 GB of RAM or more)
6 GB available hard disk space
GeForce 8800 or equivalent video card (Dedicated GPU with 512MB+ Video Memory(VRAM))
Support for DirectX v9.0c or better.
Windows XP with the latest service pack installed, Windows Vista with the latest service pack installed, or Windows 7 (Mac OS and Linux are currently not supported)
The latest update to .NET Framework from Microsoft

Why are you using Windows 7 Enterprise?

Hi Dell
My PC Dell Aurora R4 won't update properly due to it not being on the list of windows 10  creator supported drivers PC from dell. Does anyone one know if dell is going to correct this matter.
This is urgent as this leaves me as a customer vulnerable, due to the W10 System of queuing downloads and there is a security one that is waiting.
I have checked directly with Microsoft Technicians and they confirm this is the issue "No Driver support for Aurora R4 Listed, W10  Creators edition. Can dell Update an then inform us a the machines cost a pretty penny and are meant to be future proofed with drivers even without a warranty. Thank you. The link to the support statement on dell site is below.

My hard drive suddenly showed much less free space, and in trying to track it down I found that my Windows directory is now more than 30gb when before it was less than 6gb. No virus or spyware shows up.

A:Windows Directory Increase

Hello OldTech

Download TreeSize

You can explore all your drives/folders with it and see what is using all the space.

Remember to set your system to show hidden files and folders first.

1.Double-click on the My Computer icon.
2.Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
3.After the new window appears select the View tab.
4.Put a checkmark in the checkbox labeled Display the contents of system folders.
5.Under the Hidden files and folders section select the radio button labeled Show hidden files and folders.
6.Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide protected operating system files.
7.Press the Apply button and then the OK button

Check out the "System Volume Information" folder. This is where System Restore stores all the Restore Points.

If I play movies in VLC I can crank up the sound to 400%
But the simplest solution would be to use external speakers with a build in amplifier. That way you wouldn't put too much strain on your audio chip
