Q: Windows media and I-tunes problems

When I try to import music on I-Tunes or rip music with windows media player, my pc freezes with a continuos beep if I'm listening to music. I also noticed that playing madden 2006 the game freezes and I need to restart. I just recently installed windows xp pro with service pack 2. I can't seem to understand whats causing this.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Verify that your audio/video drivers are up to date, also you may want to get some software to check on your temperatures, your symptoms are common to overheating issues.(fans not operating, etc)

how can I transfer my i-tunes library to my windows media player library? I have tried:
export library/tunes
putting music in a usb drive
It seems to save the music as a file rather than music. Will it work if I burn it to a cd?

A:Windows media player/i-tunes

go to music folder in your directory in vista...

You will find it there and then all you have to do is drag folder into WMP...

and if you bought your music with itunes...(same on you amazon is cheaper and better)
you will need to acquire some drm removing tools just google it.

First, I am running XP, Service pack 3, Amd Athlon II x4 620 Cpu with 4 gigs ram, (only 3 seen by xp).

Today I tried to upgrade my I touch software and downloaded the 4.3 software. Then I tried to upgrade it and it crashed. One of things Apple said to do was to upgrade the software so I downloaded I tunes and ran it. No good.
Then they said to Uninstall Itunes.

When I run Uninstall, it does NOT remove the programs, nor the short cuts on my screen. Yet the uninstall says it is completed.

I really needed my I touch tomarrow morning for a presentation as it has all my notes. My I touch is locked up in USB mode, and cannot restart. I can't even get the damm thing recongnized by I tunes, so that I can force a factory reset.

Any ideas? Any help appreacated. Thanks.

A:I tunes _touch Windows problems.

To reset your Apple iPod Touch:

Hold the On/Off/Sleep/Wake and home button at the same time for 10 seconds until the Apple icon appears.
(from the manual)

Sometimes my iPod doesn't want to reset, i connect it to the ac adapter that (should) come with the ipod touch and then see if it takes that, then do the reset.

A few weeks ago, I-Tunes started to randomly pop up on my daughter's XP computer when she was using any other application. She ended up uninstalling I-Tunes and reinstalling it but the problem didn't go away. I-Tunes is now off her machine and now Windows Media Player is doing the same thing. I've run virus scan on the computer but nothing came up. Has anyone heard of this problem and have a suggestion for a fix? She can't get any of her homework done on the computer because of the continual pop up distraction. Help!!!!

Hey guys.
My i tunes and quicktime are both upto date, but when i try accessing the i-tunes store i get a Microsoft Visual C++ runtime error and it then closes I-Tunes.

I can access my currently downloaded music, apps etc.... if i click on the x when it says i-tunes store is loading, and can rome through i-tunes fine.
It will also play all my music with no problems.

Have done a registry clean, Virus Scan, Disk Check, Disk cleanup and Defrag and still no luck

It does however come up every now and again, and can access it and download music, apss and things.

Any advice on how to get proper functionality out of it, as it is really bugging me.

Thanks in advance.

Recently re-installed operating system, Win XP (sp2), and since then have run into dramas with I-tunes which previously ran perfectly. Now i get a message saying my computer in no longer "authorised" to play purchased music, and displays a window giving the option to "re-authorise" the computer by typing in username & password. As soon as a single letter is typed into the the password field, I-tunes closes down. I can't seem to get much help from apple and was wondering if this would be an XP issue due to the re-install.
Getting all sorts of other problems happening now too, have scanned repeatedly for viruses, malware etc with nothing found except cookies. Ready to throw the damn thing into the river...

I transfer old audio cassettes to CD-R's for family members and friends using Audacity, Been doing this for well over a year now.
Copy the media right over to the hard drive, save as an MP3 and burn it to disc using either WMP or Win Xp's feature.
Daughter got an upgrade to her I-Pod stuff and Quicktime.
Now I can only burn with I-tunes' (slower than molasses) software.
If I use WMP, a dialog window opens and say, WMP can't read this file, It's not an MP3 or is missing a codec, or something to that affect.
If I use Xp, it copies but it sounds like "ZiiiipZiiiipZiiiip". If that's a sound.

Can anyone tell me what happned?
Thank, Jeff

I should add this is not copyrighted material I'm copying to cd's. It's family stuff like Grandma playing the piano or little Johnny reciting a poem.

Just wanted to be clear.

i recently bought an external hard drive to store my music files for my mp3 player. (none of which are from kazaa etc)
I transferred the music files onto the hard drive and I tunes will only upload some of them as they have changed file type from MPEG4 audio to itunes music player files. (i think this is the problem as the ones that it will accept are that file type)
can anyone offer any advice to try and convert these files back to the correct type? (or any other advice that might solve the problem)

A:New hard drive/i tunes problems

I guess we'd have to know what type of file you started with, and what application you transferred them with. I copy MP3 files around all the time, and they never change their spots. I routinely backup my stuff on external USB/Firewire drives using a variety of backup applications and Windows Explorer. That shouldn't affect the files at all.

Could these be files downloaded from some pay service that lose their licensing information when they're transferred?

Well, I'm not sure what to do here. Up until a few days ago I was sharing my media with all computers on my network on my wireless router.

Now when I log into windows and open WMP 11 it says that I am no longer sharing media, would you like to turn on sharing? So I say yes and confirm to share my media to all devices on my network, mainly my PS3.

I uninstalled it and reinstalled it (well it actually just reverted back). I also checked to make sure that Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service is set to automatic in Admin tools. And also checked windows firewall that it allows the service.

So I am at a loss here, I don't know how to get my media sharing capabilites back. I know its not my PS3, as I am sharing media from my laptop right now. Any suggestions?

Thanks High

Funny thing is IPSEC Services do not have to be disabled in XP.

Got new computer in April of 2007 (HP Media Center M7747C) running vista and Norton 2008 (now) started with Norton 2007.

No problems until lightning hit my house in August of 2008. At that time I needed to replace my Ethernet card. (my surge suppressor did its job for everything else and sacrificed itself I was very happy about that).
Because my Ethernet card was part of the mother board (or so I was told) I needed to put the new one in one of the spare pci slots. This worked well and I am still using it today. It is a dlink 10/100.

In September of 2008 my computer would not start and went into a black screen saying that there was a problem with vista loading. I was able to load the os in safe mode and I determined it to be a bad graphics card.

I installed a new graphics card and because I was in a rush and needed it to work, I live in a rural area and my options for computer parts at odd hours are Wal-Mart or Office Max (60 miles round trip). I went to Wal-Mart and purchased a $99 ATI Radeon HD 2400 pro because it was the only card they stocked that fit into the pci express slot the old card was in and I was out of PCI Slots. This solved the problem immediately and my computer appeared to work normal. However as I found out several minutes into the new card it changed my sound settings and would no longer play over the speakers that connected to my computer or if I plugged in headphones still no sound. I did some research and found that there is a problem between the A... Read more

Hi everyone. Just joined this site. Wonder if I can get some feedback on a problem. I have windows xp/home and downloaded windows media 9.0. When I copy cds into my media library the program will not list the correct order of the music. This seems to happen with the second cd of a two set album. The music itself will copy and play in the correct order, but the titles themselves appear in the library listed out of order! Why is this happening? What can I do to correct the order of the titles in the library? Is there a way to correct this problem? Thanks for your help! Ron Langella

A:Problems with Windows Media 9.0

Did you try
Start WMP--click on Tools>Options>Copy Music>Filename.

You can select several options for sequencing by ticking the options and if you want Move Up or Move Down.

Note--This applies to original copying only.

I have aproblem with my Windows Media 6.4. I'm running Windows 95 and I have internet on cable. I was just wondering.....My windows media player when it's streaming is always buffering. It will be ok for a few seconds then buffer and then a few more seconds and buffer again. If I'm playing music with it (music that is opened specifically with windows media player)...it's always skipping and cutting in and out. And this is not with a specific site. It happens with music I have stored on my computer or any site. I will play a song I have stored on my computer with real player and it's perfect but if I try to play it with windows media...it skips. Does anyone know what cause this and how to stop it from buffering so much and not have music cutting in and out and skip like that. I've ALREADY set the default buffering to the max at 30 seconds..... but it's hasn't helped. Has anyone ever had this problem and do you know how to fix it? There are a few sites I go to where you can only use WIndows Media so I really like to have this problem fixed because it is real annoying when it buffers every 5 seconds or when I listen to music it's contiously skipping. Thanks for any help

You say you play on RealPlayer then on WMP. What is the format that you're playing?

Lets try a cleanup. Go to tools | Internet Options. General tab. Under Delete Files, delete offline content.

Also, what is your cache set to? Click the Settings next to Delete Files. Whats the amount of Disk space set to?

A:windows media problems

This is how to fix your problem!

Method A:
1. Open your Start menu and click Control Panel
2. Browse to “System Maintenance” then “System”
3. In the left panel, select “Advanced System Settings” from the available links
4. You should now see the System Properties Window, which will have three sections. The top section is labeled “Performance” and has a “Settings” button. Click this button.
5. Select the “Data Execution Prevention” tab.
6. Select the option which reads “Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select”
7. Use the “Browse” button to locate the executable file for the application you were trying to start when you received the StackHash error, and click Open to add it to your exceptions list.
8. Click Apply or OK to commit your changes.

Method B:
Remove Vista, and either downgrade to XP, or upgrade to Linux.

New here and need some help. This may be confusing so bare with me...

I've got a Toshiba laptop with windows vista on it. I take many videos with my FS20 canon camcorder and as far as I know, all the software for the camera is installed correctly, I followed all the instructions.
My videos used to play with sound and audio on my Windows media player but now the audio no longer works (it's been this way for almost a year now).

My Toshiba DVD player plays my videos just fine unless the videos are transferred on the laptop from an SD card. If I try to play it from an SD card, it says the video cannot be played back. (But the SD card works on my dad's laptop just fine).

One last thing, my videos are stacking up because of this problem, I'd like to put them all on DVDs but my windows movie maker doesn't work either. It will only play the audio for my videos.

I just did a disk cleanup and defragment for my laptop and checked for updates for windows. Is there something I'm missing or need to download? I don't get this.

Thanks for anyone's help!

Hi all,

I've been pointed in the direction of these forums; hopefully someone can help!?

My PC was "upgraded" (if that's the correct term) from 2GB RAM to 3GB RAM (replacing one of the 1GB with a 2GB). After a couple of days it bluescreened on me, and I struggled to get to the desktop (even in safe mode). That was until I removed the new 2GB board. This board was then replaced with a new 2GB and for the last 3 or so weeks it's been in it hasn't bluescreened.

However, I am unable to open a new window to send, reply or forward a message in Windows Live Mail (uninstalling and reinstalling failed), and I was given this message:

Funnily enough, for the two days I was running on just 1GB this message was showing, also.

I can't run Windows Media Center either. I am given the following message after it tries to open for a few seconds (the desktop widget also has the loading circle constantly, and never loads):

Can anyone shed some light on this? I'm reluctant to completely reinstall Windows 7 (am on SP1) as I've heard that doing so doesn't necessarily fix either problem?

As a final note, when trying to verify my email address for signing up to these boards, I was given a long error code and the message "Catastrophic error"; again, not sure of the relevance to my problem?

Thanks in advance,

A:Problems with Windows Live Mail and Windows Media Center

Let's start with Live Mail. Go and grab Process Monitor, but before you run it, close any programs you got running (background and foreground). The less programs running when Process Monitor is running, the smaller the log size is and the amount that I have to sift through in order to find what I need.

When that's done, open up Live Mail. Then open up Process Monitor, and as soon as it's loaded attempt to open up a window (and therefore fail) and press the magnifying glass (Capture) button on Process Monitor (PM) to stop capturing. Save the file (any type will do), zip it up and send it over.

Problem 1:

Windows Movie Maker seems to have an AI that invents new glitches with every video I do.

I'm doing a comedy movie review show. I add audio clips over video clips. The only way to see/hear what the video will really be like is to play the timeline from the very beginning. If I begin watching from anywhere else in the timeline, the timing of the audio in relation to the video changes randomly each time I play it, and I can't tell how it will really be when I publish the video. I didn't used to have this problem.
Problem 2:

Now, I also can't watch my published videos in Windows Media Player, because it refuses to play any WMV files. It plays all other files just fine. I had this problem once before, but it fixed itself somehow.

Then, a few weeks ago, my computer (running Windows Vista) decided to install a big update of some kind. Shortly after that, I got a virus from a website I visited, and used System Restore to undo it, but I accidentally sent the computer back before the update, and it installed the update all over again. (I also had to go through and unhide all my documents, pictures and videos, which the virus had marked "hidden"). It was after that that Windows Media Player began refusing to play WMVs again. It says "Windows Media Player cannot access the file. The file might be in use, you might not have access to the computer where the file is stored, or your proxy settings might not be correct."

The file is not i... Read more

My Windows Vista laptop has recently stopped playing AVI clips in windows media player, but plays them in VLC.

Can anyone give me a way to fix this?

A:AVI in windows media player problems

There's a few things you can try. Either using System Restore to roll back a few days to when it was working. Try installing/reinstalling the codec packs. By default, Windows Media Player should be able to play AVI files without any codec pack. However, sometimes installing a third party codec pack will fix the issue. Check your file assocations in Windows Media Player, make sure AVI is selected in the list. If none of the above solutions worked, you may want to try and reinstall or upgrade Windows Media player to see if that fixes the problem.

Windows Media Player 11 took it upon itself to autoupdate onto my work computer. I tried to roll it back from the "Add/Remove Programs" list, and it said it was successful, but it still loaded 11 instead of 10. I tried deleting it from the a command prompt with no luck, and eventually logged into safe mode where I successfully deleted everything but the program folder, because it kept auto refreshing itself back onto the computer. Now it STILL tells me I can't install 10 because I have a newer version, but I can't access 11 at ALL. Any ideas of how to TRULY get rid of 11 and get 10 back onto my computer?

I was running WMP 8 perfectly satisfactorily when i got an automatic update message to say that WMP 9 was available and would i like to download it. Foolishly i clicked yes and unleashed mayhem on my system! WMP 9 overwrote WMP 8 (i think) and now the sound has disappeared! ...just the whirly shapes on the WMP screen. Also when i click the run.exe file on the new WMP 9 programme my machine says it cannot run the programme as it is an 'unknown publisher'! Microsoft? unknown? seems fishy.
I have tried deleting WMP 9 and re-installing an earlier version but i seem unable to delete it totally. It went ok from 'start', 'control panel' 'add /delete programmes' but when i look in my computer 'C' drive 'programmes', it is still there! and if i try to highlight and delete it here, it says it can't because other programmes are using WMP, even though WMP is the only programme i have open.
I then went to 'download.com' and tried to download an earlier version (they did not list 8 so i went for 7) and this too was unable to run the .exe file as the publisher was 'unknown'.
Anyone got any ideas how i solve this?

Do you just hear sound and no video? If so try out the K-Lite Codec pack.

heyI am having a problem with WMP10 and WMP11 (the problem occurs no matter which version i install)...If I open a media file (video, audio, doesnt matter), the sound is extremely quiet... then if I click anywhere on the seek bar, the volume jumps up tremendously... then if i hit play/pause, or if the media file ends and a new one begins, the sound goes back to being very quiet...this is a new problem... does anyone know what is happening here?Moderator Edit: See this post for possible related issues: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/82976/how-to-roll-back-windows-media-player/

I had a similar problem with WMP 10 however I re-installed WMP 10 and it sorted it out, however I then installed Media Classic Player from here: Since doing that - no problems! Alternatively have a look here

Seems like everytime I open WMP it experiences a serious problem and has to close.

Now for a number of months now WMP has been giving me problems. It no longer plays .wmv files always needs a codec now. Previously I played those files, and always kept up to date with new codecs. But also the other players, Real, Winamp and BS, encounter the same issue with .wmv.

I've uninstalled WMP and reinstalled a couple of times, but no difference.

Done all the virus scanning, AVG Pro, Adaware Pro, Spybot.

I posted on this board before about, but everyone's been puzzled. Time for another look.

OK, let's start. I think I am on the right page for my problem. Windows Media Player does not play several recordings and now won't copy or rip a CD when inserted. First it says I need a license then It keeps coming up with a DRM problem. I tried several times to correct this and followed a few pages on the MS forum with no luck. I cannot rename the DRM folder "DRM backup" as that doesn't work either, I cannot get the license to update, I tried http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/Indivsite but I only get a gray bar and it work work. The system won't allow you to download the media player for updates or repairs and to top it off it says my system is not compatible with the Media player which MS states should be 11 and I have 12? I am at a total loss and going crazy s if anyone has a suggestion on how to fix this I would greatly appreciate it. It would have to be a step by step procedure for me to follow as I am not a computer whiz. I did the recommend procedure using IE and ran it as adminis... Read more

I am running windows 7 and I use the windows media player. Just recently, after a restore, I can convert files to mp3 and save them in media player and they play back fine. When I try to burn them, all of the files give an error saying that media player doesn't know what size the files are. I went into control panel and then troubleshooting and it said my media player was corrupt. I deleted every file in my media player and did the media player restore, and it stills says it is corrupt. How do I completely uninstall windows media player and then re-install it. Windows media player is not showing up on the list of programs to uninstall on windows uninstall list, ccleaner uninstall list, or revo uninstaller list. Or is there another solution without using a different player.

Windows Media Player is part of the OS = Operating System, therefore you cannot uninstall it.
I think you need to roll it back to WMP 11 & go from there. Hopefully somebody else in here can help. Good luck.

Hi -

Is the problem limited to WMP, i.e., does the DVD drive work?

Can you open/ access files on a DVD or CD in Windows Explorer?

Regards. . .

I've gotten myself into quite a little situation. I've been out of the country for a month or so, and before I left everything was in order. But, my little sister's been on the computer quite a bit in my absence and I'm unsure exactly what she's done. Well, at first whenever i tried to play video files on Windows Media Player 9, i noticed the sound was very distorted(sounded like a heavy bass song playing loudly on a cheap system). I know the problem isn't the files or my speakers because the files play perfectly on the winamp video player. So i tried installing WMP-10 beta, but the problems kept up. So i tried to uninstall WMP as suggested to me on another site. All i was able to find in the add/remove programs list was WMP 10 and a Windows Media Player Hot Fix. I uninstalled both(WMP rolled back to the previous version, version 9). I tried playing videos on WMP but i got the message "An internal application error has occurred." This also happens when i try to directly open WMP and when i tried to reinstall WMP 10 Beta. I have no idea how to fix it, so any help would be greatly greatly appreciated.

Oh yeah, i also forgot to mention, the same problem with sound happens when i play video files on Zoom Player also. Though, WinAmp works fine.

Im not sure about your WMP problem, i would say totally unistall it, delete the registry entries and everything, then reinstall WMP. But for your sound distortion problem, is there an equalizer on the program that has the base cranked up? that would be my first thought.

And welcome to TSG!
