Laptop losing connection with device

Q: Laptop losing connection with device

I have had this camera for awhile now (Olympus Sp-800uz) and been plugging it in to my laptop (Sony Vaio) to upload photos regulary. But now when I plug it in after a minute or so it comes up with a message on the camera's display that there is no connection.
I tried plugging in my camera to a different computer and it worked fine so it's not the USB or device so I think there's something wrong with the laptop, but i can not decipher what.
I have tried using several different driver programns to try and find the problem but they have not been able to find anything.
Any ideas?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I'm having a strange problem with a user at our company. When she boots, while a usb device (doesn't matter which one) it boots well, but after you get the screen 'Starting Windows' the screen gots disconnected and it is like when you put on the screen before booting the pc. The button of the screen is flashing.
Anyone has an idea?

Hey, I've been having this problem ever since coming back home from university. My laptop doesnt seem to be able to stay on the internet very well. I'll be randomly browsing, downloading, whatever, and then suddenly it'll stop. The wireless icon on the taskbar comes up with a "!" and says no internet access. The wireless connection is still full strength at this point, but no internet. What I don't understand is that the internet connection to the main computer (which is wired) works fine all the time; the internet connection works on the other wireless laptops in the house; and at uni I have no problems with the wireless internet. I don't know where the problem can be. Turning off the wireless card and turning it back on works for a few minutes or so, restarting the computer works for a bit longer. It usually works just long enough for me to get the false hope that it's fixed itself... My new Sony Vaio keeps losing connection...obviously. Ha ha. Here is the problems I've faced in order.

1. Turn on laptop, says connected, but not connected to internet. Globe isn't on in between the two computer networking things in corner. To fix this, I have to disconnect then reconnect.

2. Turn on laptop, says connected, says internet is connected, globe IS on in corner. Try internet, not working. Have to disconnect then reconnect.

3. Doesn't wanna connect, says unsuccessful in connecting. Says something about DHCP couldn't do something.

There's more problems that I've faced but I'm too lazy to post them. Help peez!

I'm having an issue with my laptop.

I can connect to my network and it will show that I'm online and will remain like this for, well forever it seems. Problem comes when I try to do anything on the internet, it sometimes works fine for a while then drops off, other times it drops off as soon as I try to load a browser.

Other devices connect and work perfectly!

Any ideas? Or is it just knackered

A:Laptop keeps losing connection

Could be interference on the wireless channel your router is currently using. Most new routers avoid this by continuously changing to the clearest channel.

You can also change it manually to a 'fixed' channel by going into your router's configuration page. Best channels are usually between 8-11

After doing this there is no need to change the channel anywhere else. All your wireless devices will automatically reset themselves to the new channel.

Greetings, and thank you for your time and help. This is my first time on your site and appreciate your patience for any missteps on my part.

I'm communicating through my desktop. My HP laptop Mod. ze4910us has a celeron 1.4 GHz cpu with 992 MB ram. XP home w/Service pack-3
It started with an occasional message that my wireless connection was lost, then it would come back after a period of time. Then my Comcast provided McAfee security suite notified me that protection had been termiated. I uninstalled it and attempted to reinstall from their web site. It started to download and I watched the download speed drop off to nothing, so I couldn't reinstall. I ran McAfee's site scanner and found nothing. I then purchased and installed Spyware Doctor. I ran a complete scan and found one low level threat which it eliminated. After finding that this didn't help I downloaded Avast to my desktop and transfered it to the laptop. This program started out with a complete boot scan, finding nothing. I was able to get an internet connection long enough to update Avast's virus database and rerun a complete scan, again finding nothing. I also ran msconfig and googled all startup files. I also ran taskmanager and googled the processes, although some could have terminated before I got to them. I also discounted a router problem by connecting directly. I'm including the requested files.

So this is a problem that's been happening for a long time now. My laptop (Lenovo X1 Carbon on Windows 10) keeps losing internet connection with my home wi-fi.

My phone and other devices that my family use work relatively fine, but mine doesn't. One minute I'm connected, and then the very next it says I have no connection and shows that little yellow icon with an exclamation point. Sometimes even when it says I'm connected I still can't use the internet. When this happens, I disconnect and then reconnect, but this doesn't always fix it, and when it does it only lasts for at most half an hour.

My laptop can connect to the wi-fi just fine anywhere else with not a single problem, but whenever I come home it keeps going in and out like this. I've tried restarting my router several times, but it doesn't change anything. I'm slowly going crazy because I can't get anything done at home!

So my boyfriend and I just moved and, after struggling with our old wireless router we haven't used in years (pretty sure it was dead), we bought a whole new one in the hopes that starting from scratch would be simpler. It's a Netgear and we were aiming to hook up three devices through it; my laptop, his computer, and our Xbox 360.

He hooked it up no problem and we were using wifi for our computers and one ethernet cable through the router into the Xbox, peach as pie... Except my Toshiba laptop decided to rebel and allow me to use the internet for about five minutes before claiming there's "no internet." The signal says excellent and the little alert symbol keeps appearing and disappearing, but no pages will load. I tried running troubleshooting, but it couldn't identify the problem. Shutting down my laptop and turning it back on seems to be the only way to get it going again for another five minutes until the cycle continues. What gives? :C

Toshiba is running Windows 7. Thanks for your help!

You should try all the basics, like uninstalling and reinstalling the adapter and it's drivers. That said this could be a heat related problem, many laptops when they get too hot develop the intermittent internet connection issue. When you expirence the problem is the laptop really hot?

Start up laptop and have WI-FI fine, for awhile. Then, WI-FI connection goes away, and computer tells me that I am not connected to the Internet. Computer tells me that I need to hook up my Ethernet cable or that I have a bad Ethernet connection. This doesn't help me, as I'm not in a wired connection with the Internet at this location, anyway. It's all supposed to be through my WI-FI router that's set up in another room in the house.  After awhile, WI-FI connection miraculously comes back and then I bring up the Internet. Then the WI-FI goes down again after a minute or two, and again the computer tells me that I have no Internet connection. Have rebooted Laptop several times to try to "re-set" the wireless connection (?). This is getting to be very frustrating. I bought this laptop from a friend last Summer and he didn't tell me about any problems with the WI-FI. Apparently, the HP warrenty expired at the end of June, 2016. I'm only now really starting to use this Laptop and am seeing some issues here! My little Acer laptop that I bought in 2011 doesn't have any problem wirelessly connecting to the Internet following the same scenario in the same room, only without the loss of Internet connectivity. What gives?

I have ran into a strange issue. My laptop keeps losing the actual wireless connection setup. I have the wireless button to on now and the LED light is still in the off color. I have tried everything. I know that it is not my wireless internet b/c there are other laptops using the same wireless connection. I thought I had a virus, but none of my virus/spyware/etc programs have found anything. At first I had a windows update that was trying to update about a million times, I finally connected my computer to the internet through the ethernet and I am able to get internet service. I updated all of my windows updates and virus/spyware programs. After this my computer magically found the wireless connection setup again. (Because even when I go to internet connections through the control panel, there is no option for the wireless connection). But after I closed my computer last night & reopened it today the connection is lost again. I have connected it back to the hardwire again and it is still not finding the wireless connection. I have no idea what to do. I have never had this happen before. I would appreciate any help or thoughts on what may be happening!! Thank you!

Does this happen at all on other devices on the network?

Do you receive such issues with a wired connection?

Also when the internet disconnects does your router's internet light change colour or turn off? It is potential for this to be an issue with your line to the internet rather than an issue with your laptop

I have 5 computers hooked to my router, just for DSL, they aren't networked together. I would love to do that, but haven't gotten that far yet.

I have 3 desktops that are hooked via cable and one is wireless via a USB wireless adapter. My laptop has a wireless card built in.

I work from home and have started working on the laptop more. I access our client's network server via a VPN connection. I have done this for over a year on a few of the desktops and they seemed to work okay. Now, I keep losing the wireless connection on the laptop. If I stick with it and continually work, I am okay. If I am away for more than 15 minutes or so, I come back and it says my connection has terminated. It isn't my VPN connection, it is my actual network connection.

Any ideas where to begin to check why this is doing this? I am thinking about having someone come over and hook up the network with all the computers, so I can print to my laser from any computer.

It works well using my laptop at my desk and using my desktop for reports and other issues, so I need to figure out what is wrong.

A:Losing network connection on wireless laptop

I'd suspect that you may be going into standby and it's powering down the wireless controller. This is not uncommon. You can either set the standby time longer, or in the properties of the wireless NIC in Device Manager, uncheck the box for power savings.

Hi. I have an Acer 7750G, running Windows 7, connected to our home network using a Dynex router. At the moment this is the only laptop in the house that is having problems with connectivity.

Starting yesterday, it only connects intermittently.

When I run diagnostics, it says the following problems have been fixed but it either solves the problem for a few minutes only or not at all: "Problem with wireless adapter or access point" or "Default gateway is not available".

IPV6 connectivity also shows 'no internet access' and sometimes IPV4 reports no internet.

I've unplugged and rebooted the modem and router a few times but that hasn't solved the problem. Any ideas what to do? Thanks.

Edit: I ran troubleshoot again, and it says the following issue is not fixed: "Wireless Network Connection 2 does not have a valid IP configuration".

This is the second router that we have installed so I am guessing it is not defective equipment.

You cannot even see anything on the screen during hybernation. I want to help you, but your message is unclear.

I keep losing internet connection and when I click on either the exclamation point on the computer icon (in the bottom right corner) or “diagnose connection problem” on the internet screen to fix it, it goes through the process to fix it, tells me the default gateway is not available or resets the local area network connection and then resets itself and the internet works again for about 10 seconds, then it fails and I go through the same steps above. Hello.  I just bought an HP Envy x360 TouchSmart laptop/tablet.  Several times per day, the laptop loses connection with my Wi-Fi router (Netgear WNR2000v3).  Nothing I can do (using Windows troubleshooter, resetting wi-fi adapter) fixes it, with the exception of rebooting the router.  Why I think it's a problem with the HP laptop is because when it loses it's connection to the router, all of the other devices remain connected (phone, other laptop, tv, etc.) I have made sure to update the driver for the wi-fi adapter.  I've rolled it back to rule out that the new driver may be the problem.  Both drivers experience the problem. I've changed my router settings to stay on specific channels instead of using the 'automatic' mode, where it scans for the best channel. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the laptop having a dual-band wi-fi adapter, but am not sure.  I need an answer soon, because if it keeps happening, I'm still within my window of returning the laptop for a refund. By the way, my laptop is running Windows 8.1. Please advise.

Evening guys. i have the following problem :

Acer aspire 5750 laptop ( about 9 months old )
wireless internet with 'excellent' signal strength on internet
windows 7 home premium

the problem i'm getting is that constantly now the laptop losing its internet connection (goes to limited connectivity) or cannot connect then when i try troubleshooting/diagnosing/open the network center as soon as i run the troubleshooting etc the laptop freezes then the only way it will work again is to turn it off and back on, i would then get an internet connection again, sometimes for half an hour but often no more than five minutes.

I'm pretty sure the wireless Internet is not the issue as the fault occurs exactly the same at

My house
Girlfriends house
and has also happened when using a friends wireless at his place
so the same internet connection fault occurs at three separate connections which leads me to believe its the laptop playing up .

any ideas, help or checks i could do would be great .
thanks in advance

Some common issues I have found to resolve similar type issues are:

1. Update network driver
2. Delete network profiles and remake them
3. run a "netsh winsock reset" from command prompt
4. Update Bios, may be a PCI communication error?
5. Replace wifi card (under warranty?)
6. Run a virus scan, somthing like Offline defender, good sucess with this, or Kaspersky rescue disc.

I'm having trouble with laptops running Windows 7 on a Windows 2008 R2 domain. We have a business wireless network and a guest network. The laptops are supposed to connect automatically to the business network. The guest network is available by manual
connection. The laptops run 24/7, on battery, and the users are supposed to connect to AC power when the battery is running low. In practice, I suspect users may sometimes be letting them run till Windows shuts down. The laptops frequently lose the
network connection. I cannot prove this, but I think it happens when they plug in after a shutdown. User tries to log in, gets trust relationship error, admin logs in to local machine, connects to network, gets unidentified network error. Admin connects to
Ethernet and this temporarily restores the connection even when on wireless. A few days later, the problem repeats.
We have tried so many proposed solutions. Our access points are less than 6 months old with current firmware. There have been a couple of cases where even hard-wiring to the network did not allow us to connect to the domain. Can anyone explain the underlying
issue and how to solve it once and for all? Thanks.

Ok, my problem started about 2 months ago, i'd try connecting to a game that required internet, and my connection would almost always be lost. A month ago, i couldn't connect to most of my games but Warcraft3 and Counter-Strike 1.6. Just about a week ago, i start losing my connection to both games. 3 days ago, my biggest problem arrived, my computer wasn't able to pick up any wireless networks to connect to. So, I haven't had a connection since then.
If you need any other information to help me with this problem, ask,

A:Started losing wireless connection, then no connection at all.

we need to knwo if its lap/desktop, what model/make the wifi card is and what access point/router etc your using..

but some ideas in the meantime
1. get a friend;s laptop with wifi and see if it will connect to the router
2. install your wifi card in question on a different machine, security settings and all
3. if you cant still pick up anything with the pc goto teh nearest place that you knwo will have a wifi hotspot active (if its not a desktop )
4. cable to your router/access point directly and with teh help of another pc/laptop with wifi see if it picks any signal up.
5. observe any changes that happend to before and during your problem period ie: new furnature, weather conditions, tv, radio, electrical stuff etc... move the access point around a bit see if it helps out
6. using cable directly to your internet connection and verify all is ok...

those steps should tell you whats at fault, or at least give us a sign

My other half got a laptop with Win 7 just before Christmas and a PC with Win 7 last week. They both seem to be having problems with not being able to find attached devices that she's already been using.

Her laptop has continually been losing her tablet (Wacom Bamboo) even though the drivers have been installed and reinstalled. The only way to fix it seems to be to turn the computer off, unplug the tablet, restart the computer then plug in the tablet. It then works like nothing happened.

Her PC keeps losing the keyboard (Microsoft Digital Media Pro). She initially plugged it in and it worked without installing drivers. She left the computer for an extended period and it went into sleep mode, after she woke it back up the keyboard wasn't working. She restarted the computer but no change.

She then put the driver disk in the DVD drive only to find that the computer didn't recognise that it had a disk drive. She restarted again and the disk drive re-appeared, she ran the disk ? got a message that it wasn't compatible with Win 7, went to the Microsoft website and downloaded the Microsoft Digital Media Pro drivers for Win 7.

She restarted the computer and was using the keyboard with no problems. Then, after another break from the computer she came back to find it not recognising the keyboard anymore. She has restarted the computer ? still not recognised. She then switched off, unplugged, switched on, plugged back in ? still nothing.

I didn't know where else to stick this thread but I think here's a good place.

I just noticed that since I installed 7260 I've lost the device icons for things like my Sandisk Cruzer Micro USB Drives. Win 7229 automatically downloaded the metadata and displayed the icons. This failed on 7260 so I manually added the data but it vanishes from it's location! I've tried it a couple of times and each time it's gone once I click Devices and Printers to see if it's worked. Does anybody else have this problem or am I missing something?

A:Losing Device Icon Metadata

Can someone with 7260 check %LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Device Metadata\dmrccache.

If you don't have a folder called en-US, create one, close explorer then click the start orb-->devices and printers then check the file path again and see if the en-US folder is still there. Everytime I create this folder and and the files needed for the icon metadata it's removed after I check the devices in control panal.

I need to know if it's just my machine or a bug in 7260 due to the fact that it was created from a VHD image.

My family's pc is running 7201 and the icon metadata behaves as it's suppose to.

edit: FIXED! I had accidently left the DEVICEMETADATA-MS File labelled as copy. Once I renamed it and put all the files back it fixed it. I love those high-res icons

Wondering if anyone can help me solve why my audio goes every time I plug in my mouse or external hard drive into one of the usb ports. The only way I can get audio back is by restarting the computer.

I'm running Windows 8 on ASUS UX32VD.

I've gone into Sound settings, Communications tab, and selected Do Nothing. But that's not solved the problem.

Thanks in advance to any kind soul who can shed some light on this!

Download and run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspecto from
on the problem machine. Post a screen shot of the main screen(networks screen) here.

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file. To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button

Note that this application requires NET Framework to run. If you get an error about a missing function, download and install NET Framework.

I just downloaded a patch from a game and now I randomly lose internet connection. The other computer on this router is having no problems. This computer is wired thru a linksys wireless router; the other computer is wireless. When I try the repair icon on the network support folder, I get a message that it cannot be repaired. When I use the ipconfig /release, there is no problem. When I try ipconfig /renew I get no response. Here is the data from ipconfig /all. Any suggestions?

I have a PC connected to Router and a wifi router connected to the wired router, which I use for connection when using laptop. All has worked fine for 18-24 months. But. Now at the same time each day, I lose internet connection from my laptop. If I reboot the router, all is fine again for another 24 hours. Any suggestions as to how I can find out why the connection is dropping. Before rebooting the router, it seems that is working fine and the PC via the wired connection is OK.

I keep losing my internet connection. The connection is shared between a laptop and a desktop computer. When the internet on the desktop is down, the laptop's internet remains connected.
It is not a problem with the modem or the ISP.
I can ping both the DNS and the IP.
I am running windows XP.

Please help.

Also. when my phone rings, all of our connections go out temporarily. We do not have dial-up and the connection comes back when phone is still in use. Any ideas why?

Connected with router.
Using cable.

A:Keep losing connection.

Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
Make and exact model of the broadband modem.
Make and exact model and hardware version of the router (if a separate unit).
Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device.
Connection type, wired or wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2)
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP (Home or Pro), SP1-SP2-SP3, Vista (Home, Business, Ultimate), etc.
The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc.

Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.

If you're using a wireless connection, have you tried a direct connection with a cable to see if that changes the symptoms?
For wireless issues, have you disabled all encryption on the router to see if you can connect that way?
Have you connected directly to the broadband modem to see if this is a router or modem/ISP issue?
If there are other computers on the same network, are they experiencing the same issue, or do they function normally?

On any affected computer, I'd also like to see this:

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

Type the following commands on separate lines, following each one with the Enter key:

A:losing net connection

Go to Start/Run and type CMD in the Command Prompt type ipconfig and hit enter. You should get an IP Address (192.168.0.x) If you have an address of or a 169.x.x.x then type ipconfig /release and hit enter. Then type ipconfig /renew and hit enter. And then ipcofig again.
