Winword gpf in kernel32.dll

Q: Winword gpf in kernel32.dll

I get this intermittently in my document, which is opened and regenerated using VBA. I am using Word 2000, and the document only contains textboxes. I am using Windows 98SE. I have tried redoing the document from scratch, deleting normal.dot, deleting tilde and temp files, reinstalling the printer drivers (it possibly occurs when the print button is pressed), but it still occurs.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Winword gpf in kernel32.dll

Have you used SFC and scanned for altered/corrupt files? This may help more than you may think. System Tools, System Information, on the Tools menu, go to "System File Checker"

Hope that helps,

I've got the same error on a new machine here, but only when they open one Word file. I'm certain it is DLL he.. as I can open the file fine with the same version of Word 2000 SP-3

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I was in the middle of generating documents for a job interview and had several saved. I had been using the resume portion of Word 97 as well as generating letters simply from Word. I have Windows ME and Office 97. I can not open any documents in Windows now. I get the error message "WINWORD has caused error in HPFNWIN 11.9LL Winword will now close. " Then it recommends restarting my computer. Restarting my computer does not help. I can open nothing. I also can not print anything, Word, an e-mail, nothing. It closes aol if I try to print anything. It won't print anything off line either. This all happened at once. I also get the message "Word has encounterd file corruption while opening C:\ProgramFiles\...\STARTUP\PALMAPP.DOT. Part of this document may be recoverable. Attempt recovery now?" Then if I say yes, it gives me a page of gobbelty gook then the WINWORD has caused error...etc. message listed above comes up. Help!!

In my internet searches, I found the same exact question here: http://www.experts-exchange.com/Applications/Q_20929688.html

Hi, Welcome to TSG!!

Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
Click on Install.
It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

MS Word will not start. Clicking on a MS Word doc object icon starts MS Word but then hangs at that initial MS Word screen with the hour glass.

I am using Word from MS Office 2000 installed locally with Admin rights on a Win2K client.

I CAN start MS Word - thanks to an post by MIZ - only when I use a "shortcut" I created. This shortcut has had it's properties modified to include the switch /A like such: C:\...\Office\WINWORD.EXE /A .

However, I can not figure out how to introduce this switch to the non shortcut EXE - the original Winword.EXE file located at C:\Program Files\Microsoft office\Office\Winword.Exe. Thus, the user must always launch Word using the modified shortcut on the desktop to view, edit or create a DOC.

Here's how I am trying to do it:

I go into Windows Explorer, tree walk through the Office 2000 directory till I find Winword.Exe. I right click on Winword.Exe, view it's properties and see in the General tab the field that includes WINWORD. It is here I am trying to add the switch /A, just like I modified the shortcut that works. I can insert the /A switch but all attempts to execute it after inserting the switch gets an error "A file name can not contain any of the following characters: /, \, :, *...."

I've put the /A switch inside the quotes, outside the quotes, removed the quotes, added spaces, no spaces...

Note: I did not get this error when i included the /A switch to the shortcut.

Q: How do I get that ... Read more

If they're program installation disks, you should not have any info on them that would be specific to you, unless, of course, you put it there. It's been my experience, if I can remember that far back(!), that program floppies had the little tab window closed so that you wouldn't write to them (save files on them).

Have you run a scandisk to see if there are any error. Most of the time for me when an App just quits like that it is usually due to an allocation error. Scan disk will fix those kinds or errors. That is what I would try.

Help! I am new at this but I can't get into my word program. It gives me an error message and says it can't open any of the files. Then ususally freezes the screen. We have tried to reinstall the word program and it didn't help. The error message has to do with the exe file. What do I do now?

Recently I bought a new computer with Vista Home Premium and upgraded MS Office 2003 to 2007. A while ago when I tried to open Word using the desktop shortcut I'd get an error message indicating that Word was having problems and couldn't open. The details showed the wording in the title of this thread followed by technical details. Today, I'm unable to open Word at all and get the same message - the All Programs button doesn't work either.

I've searched Microsoft's help and support pages and found nothing that seems to relate to this problem. My MS Office updates are current. Has anyone else had this problem and, more importantly, were you able to fix it? Would running MS Office 2007 in repair mode fix it?

If using Microsoft Outlook I would go to tools and see if it has a selection for use Word as default email editor. I would turn it off and try using outlook that way. Sometimes Outlook "runs home to momma" with this option turned on.

Bear with me here. A friend built my computer for me. It currently has two operating systems, Win98 and XP. With XP, I am connected to the net via cable modem. With Win98, I cannot connect to the net. My problem is, my Winword is on Win98, and I want to be able to use it when using XP so I can research my college papers while writing without having to reboot and switch operating systems. Thus far, I have been unsuccessful in trying to copy winword to my XP system. When I try to move it, I get an error message stating that the application "failed to start because MS09.DLL was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." Anybody know how I can move or copy word to my other system? Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi and welcome. No way around it, it has to be reinstalled thru the XP operating system for it to be able to work.

On the net connection with 98, you obviously have some settings wrong there.

Hello,

when your OS is 32 bit, you can launch word by typing winword.exe in a command prompt. But that doesn't work when your OS is 64bit. It's possible to launch it, by typing the full address: c:\program files (x86)\...
My goal is to put that command in a batch file and launch winword regardless which Office version you installed, so is there a way to still launch winword.exe without having to add the exact addresss?

I've never used or written a batch file so I can't help you there, but I'm intrigued as to why you don't just drop a Word shortcut on your desktop/start folder/taskbar/.

Computer is Dell Dimension 2400 running XP

When I open Word, the above error prevents me from using Word. All my word documents have the same problem. I have done the following: Run two anti-virus programs, two spyware programs, installed service pack 3, uninstalled Office twice, had CD for Office ran repair disk and installed Office twice.

Went to Microsoft for answer. Their answer was change normal.dot to normal.old. Problem not solved.

Went to Dell for answer. No reply.

I need help. Does someone have an answer?

Here's a link to my previous post (nearly a year ago):

http://forums.techguy.org/business-applications/394114-word-ties-up-resources-outlook.html

I have had the same problem intermittently since then. A few days ago, I had the same problem. The usual changing the e-mail settings and/ or restarting the computer has NOT helped. I cannot get back to using Word as my editor. Winword ties up all resources and locks up the computer.

Any thoughts?

I am having an issue with Outlook 2002 from Office XP Suite. I will get a message about MS word needing to recover my documents. Then about 9-10 windows start cascading onto the screen, followed by "need to close program, do you want to send a report?" I have attached the details about it with the screen shot. This has happened about three times today, even with multiple restarts.

thanks for any clues...

A:winword.exe problem

It could be a number of things 1. The normal.dot template in Word can get corrupted and cause all sorts of problems - delete this template and re open word - Word recreates this template on opening. The other thing it could be is a third party ( non microsoft add in) that is not updating when word loads. There is a microsoft article that may help
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=555220 go to the resolution section and follow the steps. I hope this helps
