I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I bought this USB with the objective of restoring my computer, because the Microsoft store had been uninstalled and lacked many drivers and programs. However, as much as I try to run the recovery, this image appears to me. Would someone be kind enough to tell me how to solve this, please?

My problem is just like this person's-exactly--

My computer Acer Aspire 5000, XP froze. I went to start it up again and all I got was the splash screen followed by a black screen with a flashing dash in the corner. It refused to boot up no matter what I did. So, I went into the Bios and told it to boot from a disk. When I first set up my laptop, it burned a "back-up disk" onto a DVD. So, I inserted it and the screen read "loading RAMDISK image..." then brought up the ACER recovery screen. I selected to recieve instructions in English, a screen said "Restore Factory default system". I clicked next. It begin to reformat and restore factory default settings, but an error occured. There was a "fail in creating or opening a file" I clicked okay and it led to a little gray box reading Recovery32... Cannot find preload.tag for SetBootIni. Once I click okay again it starts all over from the splash screen. I have tried both the System CD Rev 4.0 and the set of three recovery CD's to no avail.

Obviously, I have little computer expierence and would like a little help fixing this. I can not find anything on the ACER support site. Thank you.

A:acer recovery missing preload.tag

I have received no responses so I took the laptop in to a local computer repairer. At first they said something had wiped my hard drive clean except for my documents, that the hard drive was fine and they would install xp again and get it back working. Fee -200 dollars. Several hours later they called and said that they were having trouble installing the xp operating system and perhaps my hard drive was bad after all. I needed a new hard drive and they will install xp -now 250 dollars. Am I stupid? Should I care what hard drive they put in, other than the 100gig they took out? Any advise would be appreciated. Thank you.

My recovery (D is about full (2.58gb free of 25.7)

I've narrowed it down and found out that in my (D, in preloads under file, i have tons of GBs in "Install34.swm"

Now, the number in "Install34.swm" is just an example, there many, MANY variants of that file, with just a different number after "install".

I really need help with this, i would like to delete these files, but have no clue if it is safe to do so. So far this has been a struggle, since i'm not the most pc savvy person, so any help is appreciated.

A:Recovery filling--Preload--Files--Install.swm

The Recovery drive is normally pretty full, but all it contains is the recovery files to restore the computer to the original factory state so it's not a problem, it's generally just big enough to hold the recovery files and nothing more. So your solution is actually to do nothing as nothing is wrong and doing something will likely break your recovery software.

You can get Windows 8.1 install media here, Create installation media for Windows 8.1 - Windows Help. This media will read and use Windows 8.0 and 8.1 OEM keys. If you download the correct version it will read the key automatically and activate with it online automatically. You just have to know if the PC originally came with Core, Pro or the Single language version.

You don't need to know what the key is but if your curios, Product Key - Find for Windows 8

I'm running dual hard drives and I started my computer this morning to find the usual hard drive select screen. I selected my usual hard drive and continued to the next select screen. I was prompt with a recovery or a start windows normally options. I selected the usual "start windows normally". Then my computer was forced into recovery mode which never loaded. It loads a blank windows recovery screen that never loads. I left the computer to load for over 2 hours and no luck, it never loads. I've tried restarting and selecting the recovery option for the second option.. but the same result. I've never had this kind of issue before and I'm wondering if the main hard drive has failed. I've tried the usual F12, CTRL+ALT+DEL combos but it is completely unresponsive. The second hard drive I have doesn't have windows installed so it leads nowhere if I choose it.

I've attached a few pictures before for each of the screens along with the blank windows recovery screen.

When I left my laptop alone for a while it suddenly started updating tot windows 10. I did not start this update. An hour later when the update should have finished it stopt because of a problem that couldn't be solved so my laptop started to 'backtrack' I guess. the message displayed on the screen "restore to previous operating system" something of that sort. But then this failed as well. Now when I try to start or restart the computer I end up on the light blue screen of the recovery Manager. Leaving me with a few options:to use a disk to install windows 10to restore the original factory settings of the computerto only restore the operating system, drives and a selected software For all of these 3 things I should make a backup, because with some of these options I will lose everything, which is not the best timing because my exams start next week. So I tried the automatic and manually selected backup and both of these failed as well. giving me the errorcode: FFFFFF0C. Is it still possible to restore to window 8.1 or windows 10 I don't care but where I keep all my files and documents? All of my schoolwork is stored there and I don't have an external backup. Thanks for the help..

A:Update to Windows 10 failed and recovery to Windows 8.1 fail...

jensvr Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but you can thank Microsoft and their obsessions with forcing Win10 on everyone for the predicament you are in. While Microsoft tells you that there is no risk in the Win10 Upgrade, because they let you believe that you can always revert back to your original OS and setup within 30 days, the ugly fact of the matter is that the Win10 GoBack function has proven to be unreliable -- and when it fails, it can leave machines in a corrupted state -- which doesn't always happen, but it does happen often enough to be a problem and you won't get any warning in advance that it is going to trash your PC!The Win10 Upgrade is know, in some cases, to corrupt the Recovery partition stored there by the OEM that built the original machine.  This pretty much guarantees that no HP Recovery is going to work. Are you still able to boot into a working OS with a desktop?  IF so, instead of relying on an internal backup function, which tends to be unreliable, my suggestion would be to use a third-party product known as Macrium Reflect. Macrium Reflect (MR) provides a FREE version that can be used to image and restore partitions or entire drives. What I recommend is the following:1) Download and install Macrium Reflect (MR)2) Run MR and choose the option: "Create an image of the partition(s) required to backup and restore Windows" to write a full backup to an external drive or USB stick3) Use the option to create a boot USB stick ... My replacement T470s arrived yesterday and the setup experience was very different than the first unit which was DOA due to an unresolved power-on issue. The original unit preload looked similar to my previous units with Windows 10 1503 installed which I had to update to Windows 10 Creator as well as numerous driver/BIOS updates. The new unit, however, came with the Windows 10 Signature edition in the preload as well as having the latest BIOS, ME firmware, and device drivers already installed as of the manufacture date of (5/26/17). The difference in the manufacture dates was only two weeks, but I thought that the T470s was  supposed to come with the Windows 10 Signature edition.

The startup configuration experience was far superior to the original preload and I was up and running within 1 hour (a new record for me). That time included downloading and installing Norton Security, which I purchased, and Adobe Photoshop.

YMMV

My Windows 7 basically blew up and is no longer working. I tried a one-key recovery as well which utterly failed. As a last resort I tried using Windows 7 recovery disks sent by Lenovo. There are 4 disks 1,2,3, and an additional disk. Everything seemed to be going somewhat smoothly, although slow up until disk 3. The screen shows

"Current Item: ApplyOs" "Recover process is running please don't remove your power adapter."

It's been like this for days. The blue bar load bar under it seems to still be running. Tried again, this time with 4 different disks sent by Lenovo. The first 3 disks went a bit faster, but the end result was still the same, getting stuck on "ApplyOs". Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

Hi,  My Ideapad 710s which is only like 8 months old is currently with Lenovo for a warranty repair.  The comma key became loose and fell off the keyboard, the little clips on the back were broken so I was wasn't able to clip it back on.  I sent it to Lenovo under my 3 year warranty and now they are refusing to fix it under the warranty.  What can I do about this?  Why would anyone break their comma key on purpose? The rest of the laptop is in perfect condition so it is clear that I have not abused the laptop, every other key is absolutely fine.  Seeing that it was simply a matter of clipping a new key on, I asked Lenovo to just post me one out and I would do it myself. They refused, and made me send it in. I did this, and now they are going to try and charge me for the postage which I didn't want to pay for anyway because the repair was so minor!!!  This will be the last Lenovo product I ever buy if they are so petty and treat their customers so badly over such a small repair that any reasonable person can see is a manufacturing fault.  I am furious about this, and hopefully you guys can give some advice.  Thanks

So that's how my computer looks right now. That's the bottom. But the hinges are almost broken, the side of the computer where I plug in my charger is breaking and so on. I didn't mind since it would still work, but now it says "default reboot device missing." It won't even turn on unless I have the charger plugged in but even so it still says default reboot device missing and keeps making weird beeping sounds. When I go to the options, there's only one and if I click that one it fails.

Hi.I have an IdeaPad 310 that shipped with a 2TB HDD that I would like to replace with a 512GB SSD.After speaking with Lenovo support i was under the impression that I should be able to use OneKey recovery to create a USB recovery image, swap the drives over and use System Retore to load a factory fresh OS on my SSD. I have prepared the Recovery USB drive. I am in the process of trying to initiate the OneKey Recovery system restore. This is where i run into problems. OneKey does not pick up my USB drive recovery image.Ok - perhaps the USB drive is not configured as a bootable device. I have used DiskPart to reformat the drive to NTFS format and make the boot partition active (diskpart active). My USB drive is too large to format as FAT32...NTFS is not compatible with UEFI...(?)... So in the BIOS I have selected Boot Mode as Legacy..., Disabled UEFI... USB is enabled. Now when i run OneKey recovery --> System restore... UEFI network boot does not start up, but i receive an error that no OS was found, remove drive and restart (or words to that effect..). What next? Do i need to Format in FAT32 in order to boot from the recovery drive?

Hi:I have an Ideapad 110-15ISK, and a few months ago I deleted Windows 10 to install another OS, but recently I went back to Windows and everything was fine. Once again I tried to install another OS, but this time without removing Windows, and as I try to do it throught dual boot I need to access the BIOS to change the boot order. I do not see the UEFI firmware configuration option to access the BIOS. Previously, before removing Windows, the option appeared. I consulted several forums and one said that it could be that the BIOS should be updated, so I installed an update: https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/gr/es/products/LAPTOPS-AND-NETBOOKS/100-SERIES/110-15ISK/downloads/DS11...I installed the correct one, since my laptop is the one that says the download page. When the download finished, I got an error: Checking media [Fail], and it restarted again and again and the same thing happened. I have tried a Windows Recovery Media, but no advanced options work for me, and the option the remove the OS  takes me to an HP management (I installed the recovery media in an HP laptop). I also installed a Windows ISO image on a USB to install it again, but it does not allow it. Is there any other solution?

Hi,

I hope someone out there can help me. I have just purchased an Acer Aspire AM3900 which came with Lupis Linux software preloaded. I bought it because of its spec, Intel Pentium E5800 with 4Gb ram and 1TB HDD and figured price was good because it did not come with W7 preloaded. At least 1 review which I read before purchasing said they had loaded windows 7 with no issues. I have made several attempts to load a copy of Windows 7 Professional without success. Each tme I get a message just as the loading has started saying that it cannot find the drivers for the CD drive which is listed as being DVD Super-Multi drive. There was a CD which came with the computer with drivers on it. The CD says it is for W7 X86/X64 but when I load it I get a nother message saying that no drivers have been found. I have also downloaded drivers from the Acer websie but none of them are reconised iether.
I realise this is not a Linux forum but if there is anyone who could help I would appreciate it.
Beginning to realise cheap sometimes means nasty.

Cheers

Hi guys, looking for help. I tried to plug my Ac power supply to my laptop, and I can't power on my laptop. However, when I try using my battery instead of Ac, the laptop manage to power on. Then, I try to plug in Ac power supply into the laptop inserted with battery. The battery icon shows the plug icon and charging status BUT it's not charging at all! And the battery percentage keep dropping.  I had tried to-reset my laptop.-downgrade from windows 10 to 8.1-reinstall battery driver at device manager-press for 45sec power button But the problem still remain unsolved. My Ac power supply and battery are not in defect, doubting the hardware insd laptop. Please help me. Unfortunately my warranty just expired half year ago. Is thr any way to solve the problem? Thank you!!

A:Ideapad Y510P fail to open with AC power supply

Hi Kaney510p,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

You can follow the "Power Checkout Guidelines" from the hardware manual here on page 21-22.

Without the battery and directly plugging the AC charger should allow you to power on the machine, else would indicate systemboard issue. Before jumping on probable motherboard replacement other parts may also be considered like DC in port, board and cable.

Otherwise, try to double check the AC charger integrity as described in the manual (Checking the AC adapter page 21) using a volt meter or better yet with a compatible charger like a universal charger.  Using the same charger on a different device can be done alternatively.

Use the laptop with only the battery until it is drained to 20%.
With the battery drained should show blinking amber on the battery indicator.
Connect the charger for 2-3 hours taking note of the battery indicator (without powering the laptop.
This should change from initial blinking amber to white as a normal operational charging.

Update us how it goes.

Regards

Hi, I got this too with my Y700, it's down to the VGA driver rather than the hardware but it shouldn't affect any functonality so no need to worry about it. Hopefully Lenovo will issue a new driver soon to resolve it If you don't want to wait I managed to solve it by installing the most recent driver from the Intel website, please note you won't be able to run this from the .exe download, you'll need to download the zip file, extract it, and then install the driver from device manager.

I have a custom built PC, installed with Windows XP. Lately its been having trouble, but it is full blown rebellion as of last night. I think its probably a virus but I'm not that experienced with diagnosing.
Issues:
`My web browser (FireFox) crashes when trying to view certain things; PDF files are the main crash point
`I have a 16 GB flash drive that I have to reformat it every time I use it, which doesn't fix the problem it just lets me transfer again until I have to format it again.
`I have two hard drives that make up c,d,e,f,i,j,and k drives. When I opened "My Computer" I,J,and K:/ were missing. I couldn't see or access them.
`Its been freezing up a lot; forcing me to reboot
`(most recent)Now when I try to reboot it will rapidly switch screens from the black scanning, log in, windows xp (with the blue bar filling up), and a blue error screen. The blue error screen says to reboot if its the first time i've seen this; then it gives steps to follow if i've seen it before.

I've tried to run it in safe mode and it hasn't worked.

Please if you have any ideas let me know. Is it possible to recover my saved files? I backed up my files awhile ago but it is saved on a drive that is missing (I,J,or K) If you need more info just ask. Thanks for your help

A:Windows XP Crash Issues - Hard Drive fail, start up fail

Hi there
So what I gather is that you now cannot start your computer up at all, due to this issue. I'm actually unsure of the problem, it sounds to me like a Virus has been at your computer. It can't really be a hardware issue I don't think... I mean it is possible that what could have been happening is that your computer (Desktop or Laptop?) is overheating and its been damaged because of that... But that wouldn't really make sense, and also having Custom Built a computer I'm sure you'd have been smart enough to install a thoroughly capable cooling system.
It sounds to me like your hard drive has been corrupted though, BSOD usually means a pretty big issue. Thats why I was thinking hardware problem to begin with, you don't often get it for Virus's.
A couple of things we need to know:
Do you have any sort of Anti-Virus installed? If so, which one? How frequently did it scan? Did you find any virus's?
Also, how far into the boot process does the computer get before it loops? Are you able to enter BIOS settings before Blue Screen comes up and it loops? What happens when it loops?
And do you have a startup / boot disk for your computer. You certainly should do.

Hi, l've been having a constant issue with my computer and I can't seem to get out of this trouble no matter how many times I reinstall and even wipe out my hard drive.

I wiped out everything in my hard drive and installed windows 7 Ultimate for the '7th' time, and the same problems happen every single time.

Right after the install, it seems to work fine but as I install numerous windows updates as it recommended (almost forced me to, 'cause it does automatically), my computer becomes so slow in everything.

It doesn't start up, the menu and such looks as if I'm in a safe mode (blocky and old looking) even if I manage to start it up, have to wait more than 15min or even 1hr for it to respond.

The situation I'm having now is, the pop up message saying:
"Failed to connect to a windows service: windows couldn't connect to the System Event Notification Service service. This prevents standard user from logging on to the system. As an administrative user, you can review the System Event Log for details about why the service didn't respond"

Also, the computer has been failing at installing several updates such as:
Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 for x64-based Systems
Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2763523)(KB2719857)(KB2735855)(KB2750841)(KB2732059)

Because of that, it sometimes ran chkdsk on the boot screen and deleted/fixed files.

I don't think it's ... Read more

Hello, I am writing because the 30/9 buy a notebook in the US, and it has stopped working. initially when the windows will automatically update, I stopped working the mouse, keyboard and touch screen drivers Because some conflict. then restore it several times, from windows, worked the keyboard and mouse. I call HP support for Latin America (I live in Argentina) and they recommended restore from the boot menu. I did, but failed several times saying that the restoration was incomplete with the following message: "Might there be unexpected reboot During [Windows setup] the CTO process will cause panic beause the image Might not be regular now". the computer can not start Windows.
I call repeatedly to ho support, but they told me that I have to comuncarme with the technical service of the United States because they do not have the tools to fix it because the model is not in latin america.
from me and I ask you to indicate how to proceed, and if you need a rescue disk to coordinate from Argentina.

Hey everyone I got alittle problem. I've replaced my HDD on one of my HP DV6T-3100 laptops and I'm trying to recover my OS to HP factory install but here's where my problem comes into play. It goes through the format process like normal and installing software like normal but soon as it reboots it fail's to complete. It goes to through boot process and goes to the login and the CMD line comes up and it stops and gives me a error that it can't continue. I was wondering if anyone ran into the same problem and can help me figure out how to get this thing complete so I can get rid of this laptop. Thanks

Good evening all,

Just to flag that this has also been posted in W7 Support sub-forum here:

Other thread

Re. the instruction thread - the link to DSS doesn't seem to work, and GMER is for 32-bit only. If there's anything I can do to kick things off, please let me know and I'll do it!

I've googled extensively around the issues I am facing, and tried all proposed solutions, but none have worked thus far.

Symptoms:I have 1-2 minutes of freedom after booting, then I can no longer run new programmes. I also cannot close some programmes e.g. Skype. Tabs in Chrome spazz, flash player dies, and any new navigation ends up with an eternal hanging/loading problem.
Unable to restart/shutdown conventionally (I have to do it physically)
I get the error "Failure to display security and shut down options ..." when I try ALT+CTRL+DEL

Safe mode is absolutely fine, so I assume it's not anything hardware related (though please correct me if I'm being naive). My second drive which runs off XP, which I only use for storage now, boots fine and has no problems.

I have not installed any new drivers, programmes, or otherwise made any meaningful changes recently.

Solutions I've tried:Reset winsock.
Shut off all start-up programmes using MSCONFIG.
Run virus scan at boot-up, deleted 2 items (win32 installmate ... prob trojans? Was an .exe that I had downloaded but never ran).
Run Malwarebytes scan, deleted 1 fairly innocuous item.
Run full scan-disk check.
Run a SFC scan... Read more

Hello, I have an urgent request... (as probably most do in here, lol)

The thing is I have a friend in sweden with an almost new laptop,
he went to visit a friend with it, played some online games together,
came back and now its "broken". The only thing that was installed during that time
was steam.

The toshiba laptop had windows 7 preinstalled in swedish which is why I cant
help much there and he and his family are fire & water when it comes to them & any kind of technical stuff.

So we tried to fix it as much as possible but here is what happens...

He turns the laptop on, "Windows is reading files" then turns into the "Self-Repair" mode and after a few seconds it says "can not self-repair, if you added some devices since the last good loading point please remove those and start again" u can then either choose "restart" or "cancel". There are however 2 more options in that screen, 1 is to show a logfile of why its not working, which didnt show anything suspicious and 2 is to go into advanced options, if he clicks the advanced option it says "to perform this action u need to be logged in" which is kinda where we are stuck, since there is no way to log in.

We then tried the F2 + restart to see if something in the BIOs is screwd up
but everything was fine, just to be sure we returned it to default (which didnt change anything anyway).

Then we tried the F8 + restart and tried almost ever... Read more

Hello. Yesterday, I tried performing a System Recovery on my computer by pressing f11. I've done this more than once so I'm quite familiar. However, during the process, my computer shut off completely. I turned my computer back on and it went back to the System Recovery screen but a message appeared saying something like "An unexpected shut down of your computer. Windows is unable to install. Press OK to restart and install the Windows software" or something along those lines. So I kept pressing OK and my computer kept restarting but nothing happened. The same message kept appearing.

So on my other laptop, I created a USB that would install Windows Vista Home Premium. That worked and I was able to access Windows. However, when I boot up my computer, a screen appears that says "Choose an Operating System" and it has "Windows Vista" listed twice. Also, all the f keys work when I boot up the computer however, the f11 key does not work at all. I can't access the System Recovery. I try to press f11 and it says "System Recovery....." but then it loads to the "Choose an Operating System" screen.

My question is, is there any other way to access System Recovery other than pressing f11?? Maybe typing something in the Command Prompt?

Also, can someone maybe provide me with the HP System Recovery Manager disk download?? I don't want to order one. PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!!

Try here:

HP Business Support Center

It's volunteers who own HP machines, not paid support. But there's stuff like original software packages, driver and BIOS updates, user manual as downloadable PDF etc.. that you can search by HP model.

You have to sign up but it's free and when I registered, they accepted Hotmail as email no problem.
