I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

How can I re-associate .mp4 files with video details displaying in the Details Pane? After installing the K-lite codecs pack, my mp4's all began displaying in the details pane as audio files (Album, Artist etc) and no longer displays the important video default details (size, frame height, bitrate etc). I assume it was because of incorrectly associating file types when installing the codecs (even though wmv's, avi's are still correct), so I uninstalled the codecs but the Details categories remain for typical audio files. I've exhausted The Google and I'm stumped... any help? (Win7, 32-bit with VLC as my default player) Thanks!

I need a little help with something that seems simple. I am using Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit. I have changed the columns in Details view in a folder. However Windows is not populating those columns, so what am I missing? This holds true on both my network drives and my local drives, so I checked my indexing options and they are set to index my local drives, so I assumed that should have at least worked. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Trying to access one of my hard drives resulted in My Computer locking up, and upon ending the process explorer seems to get shut down. Task manager wouldn't come up so I'm forced to reset. Also trying to play something in winamp resulted in a sound driver error, when it was working fine beforehand.

I'm currently running Avast and MalwareBytes, and will keep this topic updated, I hope I can fix this....

If anyone has any input please share.

Hi guys.
This might be a very simple thing but my bro was messing around with my PC and I don't know what he's done but when I hover the mouse over files or folders I don't get any info about them.
I.E. the filename, size and when modified. And the folder gives info like the name of files & folders inside
I know it's not much but I find it quite useful especially the folder info.
I've tried fixing it myself but I don't know what he done exactly.

Hello,

I was just wondering if anyone knew of any software that would allow keep a database of client details e.g. account number, address, phone/fax etc (the basics really).

At the moment I have been using Microsoft Outlook for the past 3 years, but the only problem with this is that I am unable to share the database on my network.

Is there any program that works like outlooks contact's system but can be easily accessed & viewed by any computer on my net.

I've read a few articles on setting up an exchange server, but it didnt quite seem to work for me, and nearly all my systems are XP anyway. So i gave up on this idea.

There was another program that I found, that works with outlook itself, and shares the database on the network without the need of an exchange server, but the licence fee was just too much.. something close to 300-400 for 5 liences.

I dont mind if the software is web based, as I was kinda thinking about just setting up a webserver on one of my machines and running a forum on there, adding each client as an individual member. Access the details would be easy enough but the having to register each client would be quite timely.

DOes anyone have any ideas on what other programs I could use, or is there any web software already availbe that will work in this manner for me.

It needs be easily accessible over the network by any computer, aswell as editable.

Thanx in advance for any advice.

Hello!

I've got a question, related to the one described in the following post: http://forums.techguy.org/networking/887745-connecting-two-routers-cascading.html, but i opened a new thread, as it's advised by the rules.
I'm also trying to connect two routers and I want to do it, as JohnWill wrote in the above mentioned post, i.e. using the LAN-to-LAN cascading (the second router in a switch mode), as I want all the PC's to be connected to one subnet (for filesharing and etc.). But at the same time I want to keep my DHCP server on the 1st router disabled, with the aim of using static IP addresses for an FTP server and some other services, located on one of the computers.
To sum up, can I use static IP addresses on the devices, connected to the 2nd router (in a switch mode)? Or am I not understanding something?

Any answers are very appreciated.

Hi,

I've a four-month old internet-ordered computer that I've put together and it has been functioning beautifully until this gloomy afternoon.
I had accidentally set the PCI Latency Timer to 32 from the default value of 64, and had not realized it (I pressed the + button, the hotkey for changing values) and rebooted.. ..and that's when it began. No signal to the monitor. I unplugged the power cord, waited for the motherboard to discharge, and opened the case. I removed the battery, waited perhaps 3 minutes and set everything back into place. It powered on. Fantastic. I was setting the time and got an error saying something similar to "..an error connecting to RPC server." I didn't worry much about it.

Then it froze. The mouse was not responding, music was looping, etc.
I went for the reset button, only to find it would not reboot.
Held down the power button for almost a minute. Nothing.
Then it just shut off. I pressed the power button, but no power.
Simply put, the darn thing wouldn't power on.

Computer specs(off the top of my head):
P4 630 3.0GHz (NO OC) w/ Zalman 7000B-Cu cpu cooler
MSI Neo2 Platinum revision 1.0B BIOS 3.5
MSI NX6600 (NO OC)
2x Samsung totalling 1GB of RAM (4-4-4-11) Dual channel mode

I've not a clue as to how to solve this problem.
Any suggestions are welcome.

Hello, I apologize if this issue has been addressed already, but I can't seem to find a thread with a solution to my problem. Whenever I set my view to "Details," my windows explorer would always set itself to other views such as Tiles, or other times, it would usually get rid of the other columns, and only the "Name" column appears while all the other columns disappear. If I add all the columns that I had originally back to its state, it would then go to other settings of view (usually Tiles) or just go back to having no other columns except "Name." These are just some examples of the issue that I have. Even if I went to Folder Options, and clicked on "Apply to Folders" or "Reset Folders," the problem still persists. Some folder's sub-folders even get affected for some reason. I have even scanned my computer for any malware, viruses, worms etc. I have Windows Vista, and I use AVG 9.0 and Ad-Aware for protection. They detect the computer is clean, and I always scan my computer on a regular basis. Thus far, I can't get the views to be fixed and not have it change to other views and settings. Is there any solution to this? Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

I have a Maxtor D740X-6L 40gb drive but there are no details marked on the drive casing for me to enter into the BIOS. The BIOS shows most items as AUTO and everything works OK but I need to enter the drive details into the BIOS because when I use Acronis TI7 I cannot make a drive restore when using the TI startup disk as it says it cannot find any hard drives. (When I exit TI the PC starts normally).

I figured that if I fed the drive details into the BIOS instead of AUTO it might enable TI to 'see' the hard drive at TI startup.

I have Googled the drive but I cannot find the relevant details as required by the BIOS; namely -

cylinders
head
sector
CHS capacity
Maximum LBA capacity
(although I think the last two might be automatic, currently shown as 0mb)

Usually this kind of information is marked on the drive itself but not in this case.

Can anybody advise, please?

Hi.

I have Window XP. My computer received this message:

"Explorer.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

All the desktop icons are gone.

Also, I can't run any programs like realplayer, documents, etc. The only things that work is my internet. I tried to click on control panel or run but it won't work either.

I thinking maybe I should reinstall the whole window but i don't have back up of all my documents in my laptop. So I hope someone can give me advice on what I should do.

Thanks in advance.

Hi people,

I have come across a Time Laptop that i want to repair but i have no recovery CD's for it.
Does anyone know how i can find out what drivers i'd need to install (e.g. sound, graphics),
or somewhere i can get hold of a recovery CD.

I think it is a Time 2000 laptop, it has a 500mhz chip, 20gb HD and 512mb ram, with Win ME os.

Also a bit unrelated, is it possiable to upgrade the CD drive, it luks like a built in one at the minute? and how would i go about finding out the kind of memory it takes so that i can upgrade it?

I've tried googling but have come up wit nuthin so far!

Thank you for any help in advance!

There seems to be a big problem with Windowws 7 and Norton 2010 and IE8 forgetting login details and cookies, and not being retained or recognised by auto complete.

There is a particularly interesting post here: http://social.answers.microsoft.com...r/thread/7a32cfdc-224d-444b-aa58-b4c570d2fa0c

The problem has not been resolved and it looks like a bug in Widows 7 or a conflict with Norton 2010.

Can anyone help - I'm having to log in to Yahoo, eBay, my Bank, FaceBook, forums etc.. etc. and all other sites on each visit despite asking them to remember me.

I have done alsmost everything including altering my security and privacy options diabling Norton and ALL the suggestions in the Microsoft link above.

Still got the problem.....

A:Solved: login details not remembered, cookies randomly fall out

Found a fix (the problem is caused by a bug when upgrading from Vista to Windows 7) and posted it at the end of this thread: http://social.answers.microsoft.com...r/thread/7a32cfdc-224d-444b-aa58-b4c570d2fa0c

I have Googled unsuccessfully.

I'm on XP Pro SP2.
I use "Details" view as my default in Windows Explorer, and want that to be the default view for all my application File Open and File Save dialogs, but they always default to "List" view .

Some Microsoft apps can be forced to keep Details view *for that session only* by setting to Details and holding down the CTRL key while processing the first file, but after re-opening the app, I'm back to List view.

Whoever at Microsoft decided to make List the default needs to have itching powder sprinkled in his shorts.

I'm hoping someone has a solution.

Thanks -
gG

Hi, I just re-installed windows 7 on my desktop pc and have a question about the settings of the details pane in windows explorer (the one that appears and the bottom when you select a file). Previously when I selected video files (.mp4, .avi and .mkv) I would get the details at the bottom, the video frame width and height, size of file etc.. but since I reinstalled I don't get these details when I select video files. I know its only a small problem but I work with video files a lot and have gotten used to seeing the resolution of files without having to open them. Does anyone know how I can get the details pane to show these details again? At the moment it only displays the video size, name and state.

Here is a screen-shot of the details pane for a selected .mkv video file on my laptop, this is what I want it to display on my pc.

A:Solved: Windows explorer details pane for videos problem

Is the folder set as a "Video" type?
Look at the properties of the folder, and there you will see a drop down list for the type.

All of a sudden CA popped up and alerted me that I had several virusus on my computer and my computer shut down suddenly.

I rebooted it and it hasn't shut down by itself automatically yet so I don't know if that's a problem.

When I rebooted my desktop had changed to a screen telling me that my comptuer had fatal malware and that I needed to update my spyware and such. I also have an icon on my toolbar that is a red x and keeps prompting me to download software, I however, changed that to a different screen.

An icon on my desktop appeared called delself.bat and it won't delete. It will send to the recycle bin but it won't permenantely delete.

Hi,

I'm using Windows 7 Professional x64. When I use Windows Explorer to view image files (jpg, png, etc.), I would like to see each image's dimensions listed in the Details Pane (when it's set to view the images as Icons/Thumbnails, rather than Details). However, the only details that show up in the Details Pane are Name, Type, Date Created, Date Modified, and Size. This is the case even though:

* I've checked 'Dimensions' in the 'Choose Details' options
* The folder is already categorized/optimized for 'Pictures'
* Other folders show the other details I want -- i.e., the Details Pane for my 'Videos' folder shows Length, Frame Width, Frame Height, and other details that I've chosen

Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

A:Solved: Hot Damn Someone Stole Money Out Bank Acct.. Were Details Hooked From Computer

Hi, Neither log shows anything indicating infection.

Was anything found by any scans you did- if so, could you post an excerpt or the whole log, that shows what was found?

I'd look in all emails for any type of fake request they may have clicked on and sent details in to--- very common to see phishing scam emails, that can fool folks.

I can tell you may be located somewhere near Mauritius-- if so:

Here is a very old report about this type of thing, I don't see anything very recent...

http://www.businessinafrica.net/banking/453066.htm

Here is a current site that lists the most recent computer security breaches of banks, and other institutions, businesses:

http://attrition.org/dataloss/

http://idtheft.about.com/od/databreaches2007/a/Databreaches07.htm

If it was a bank security breakin, the news may not yet be made public.

I have found this BUG in Micrososft Word 2007, that I consider to be a SERIOUS ISSUE for Microsoft Office Suite.

If you copy an image from a website and paste in the Word file, the image pastes successfully the first time,
but as you go on & paste other images from the site,
the first image is repeated over and over again, in place of other images (which have the same dimensions).
All other text data remain same, the image titles remain same, but only the image is repeated over and over

PLZ SOMEONE...
HOW TO FIX THIS PROBLEM?

MY MICROSOFT WORD 2007 Spec:
Microsoft? Office Word 2007 (12.0.4518.1014) MSO (12.0.6514.5000)

A:Microsoft Office Word 2007 picture paste Bug *same picture is repeated

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
I would not advise pasting images in doc files like that,
I would use ms Paint to paste or save picture as
I would really recommend using the windows snipping tool to get the images that way no bugs are being transferred to the machine or programs,
Then use the Insert image option in word...
It's just a safer way to do an operation,
Cheers.
