New Headset, not detecting microphone.

Q: New Headset, not detecting microphone.

Hi, I recently bought a new headset due to one of the ears falling apart...

My old one was USB with a 3.5mm cable and worked perfectly fine. The new one I got has no USB and uses the green and pink cables. I've plugged them in and it seemed as if they were working well but I realised they're not actually picking up the sound from the microphone, they're playing my computers sounds.

I looked through other forums and found people saying that it may be a driver issue, so I updated and got the Realtek HD, which then showed the Stereo Mix in my devices. Basically what's happening is that Stereo Mix and Microphone are both playing volume at the same level and acting as if they're the same. I've tried disabling Stereo and keeping Mic but it still plays the computers sounds. I've tried vice-versa too. The "Speakers" device is also playing at the same level of volume.

And then obviously since it's doing that, it's playing my computer sounds through Skype.

Basically what I want to achieve is have the headset playing sound but also be able to speak through skype without it playing the sounds I have on.

Also, there's a little switch on the cable to act as a "Mic Mute" switch, if the Mic is ON then the sound is fine, if I switch it to OFF the sound is very echo'd and distant.

Preferred Solution: New Headset, not detecting microphone.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: New Headset, not detecting microphone.

First, stereo mix should be set as the default recording device. Then any input device that is used will be heard.

As Windows only allows one default audio playback device, separating sounds or what's heard may not be possible or is an option of the application program. I'm not familiar with Skype so I don't know what the options are or do.

I have a almost broken headset, but the microphone still works fine, The microphone is connected on the wire right before the headset, Its not actually touching the headset itself.

Would this microphone still work if the headset was cut off?

Sorry but I can't manage to take a photo but

A:Will a Headset microphone still work if I cut it off the Headset?

Is the microphone actually supported by the headset, by that I mean when the set is on your head is the microphone carried close to your mouth so you have both hands free. If this is the case then cutting off the headset will mean the microphone will not have any way of being held near your mouth.
If you cut it off you will have to be very careful you don't cut the wires for the microphone & it's possible that there is a common return wire for the earpieces & the microphone in the form of a shielded cable, so it would be very difficult, but if you have skills in this area it could be done.

Hi

Sorry if this has been posted before but some searching hasn't
revealed any results

I have just bought a headset with microphone for use with skype.
I also have a usb webcam with a microphone, but the microphone isn't
as good as the headsets.
When I have the webcam plugged in the headsets microphone doesn't
work, I guess the webcam's takes priority. Fine.
When I remove the webcam (which will be the norm) the headset
microphone doesn't then work. I have to restart the machine before it
does.

I've tried control panel->sounds and audio devices->voice->voice
recording and I can see that there are 2 options when the webcam is
plugged in but only one when not. Nothing I do here seems to help
Suggestions?

thanks for any help

i've been having this issue for a while now, my headset hasn't been detecting. it is connected via the 3.5mm headphone jack. this is a problem i've had with every pair of headphones/headsets i've tried, so it isn't an issue with the model. the only reason i haven't noticed this issue until as of recent is because i've had a USB connected headset. now that i need to use the 3.5mm jack, nothing is detecting. i've tried to fix this issue, and all that has happened is that my headset shows up as "Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio)", and will not register my microphone. any help?
note that these three screenshots are taken whilst the headset is plugged into the 3.5mm headphone jack (the only connector that came with the headset)

Alright so I have a BRAND new Sony Vaio laptop with Windows 7, it's model # is VPCCW21FX. I got it only a week ago.
I play games so I connect with Ventrilo, but with this laptop it is not detecting my headset. It's a standard Logitech headset that connects through those pink and green jacks on the side of my laptop. It only recognizes the laptop's built-in microphone, however. This is what I've tried to get my headset's mic to work:

1. Disabling the built-in microphone. The laptop still did not recognize that I had a separate microphone plugged in through the jack.

2. Updating sound card's driver / rollback to previous, to see if it might work. It did not.

3. I tried to use the Ease of Access -> Install new microphone. The laptop would only still detect the built-in microphone, not the one that was plugged in through the jack.

I know it's not the headset's fault because it was working perfectly fine in another computer just this morning, and I tested it on my brother's computer a few minutes ago. His computer detects my headset. Yes I have the plugs in the correct holes, and no there are no drivers since this isn't a USB headset. The laptop KNOWS that something is plugged into the mic jack because it mutes the laptop's built-in microphone once there's something in it, but no sound is detected.

As you can see from the image, the Realtek microphone is the built-in one. My headset is currently plugged in, but ... Read more

A:Windows not Detecting Headset

From what I see this has the two 3.5mm plugs and also a USB. I can't find out if the USB is just for the lights or if it is used for anything else in the headset. But, make sure you plug in everything.

As you have a Dell, and are you using the built in sound device? or have you added a separate sound card? If you added a separate sound card, you need to connect the front panel to the new sound card.

If you are using the built in sound device, try connecting the headset and mic to the rear connectors (Green and Pink) and see if it works there.

Windows will happily output sound to my headset but there is no input from the mic. I have a xonar dg as my soundcard.

The headset mic has been tested on a laptop and works
The microphone mute button the the headset cable is set correctly
The jack is correctly in
On plugging in (and fiddling with the jack) the mic I can see noise in CP/Sound window
It has been tested on the front panel, the soundcard jack & motherboard jacks
Drivers have been wiped and reinstalled
System restores had no effect
A reinstallation of windows keeping programs & settings had no effect
The mic is not muted or set too low in Control Panel / Sound
The mic in my webcam works correctly (USB)
Connections inside the case are not loose
Toggling the front mic option in Cp/Sound/Recording/(the mic)/properties/custom has no effect
I also managed to get the mic to work (badly) for a few seconds after windows reinstalled. After I plugged in the headphone jack, the mic went dead and hasn't recovered since.

The mic has worked on this PC before, it seems some setting / software / driver is mucking up.

A:Windows not detecting input from headset

I noticed the sound card can only handle up to 48KHz/24-bit recording. However the CP sound options would let me set it above this. Lowering it to the acceptable level made no difference.

I tried plugging into the microphone jack but then I couldn't hear anything and the microphone would hardly pick anything up. I then tried to plug in my headset at the back in all three Jacks but they gave me a combination of not working at all, then only the mic working but not picking anything up, and only speakers working. The jack on the headset and my pc are all 3.5mm.

Basically I've gotten used to wearing headsets the wrong way around when gaming. This wasn't a problem unti lately I got one with a micrphone to participate in clan matches.

I play first person shooters but if I wear it the correct way i can't hear where people are located so it is vital I have to wear it round the wrong way. Of course my microphone points backwards so is totally useless.
My soundcard is a realtek high definition audio device.

I'd like to find a software fix to basically switch around the sound of the headset. So left sounds into the right and vice versa. Just simply switching the current 2 directions around so when people are on the left I hear them on the left! and if they are on the right to hear them on the right. with RealTek audio manager i can set it to 7.1 surround or just normal sterio which is 2 directional. Either way the people aren't heard in there correct place.

Please, I will greatly GREATLY appreciate if somebody can help me. I've tried various headsets and all have this problem.

I've got a Lenovo X230 Tablet and the problem is these things come with a combined audio/microphone jack. So recently, I bought a combiner (one of these things: 3 5mm Earbud Headset Headphone Earphone Splitter FOR Tablet Phone MP3 MP4 | eBay) and although it doesn't specifically say its used for this purpose, I've used it at least 10 times and it has worked perfectly fine through Skype, Wavepad, etc. The microphone from headset worked, sound came into the headset, everything was perfect.

Now here's the problem. It suddenly stopped working.
I've plugged my headset into my mother's laptop (which has separate audio and microphone jacks) and confirmed that the headset is fine.
I plug the mic/audio from headset into combiner and into laptop as always but I only get audio. I've swapped them around and audio still comes in so I think the combiner should be fine too.
However, my microphone isn't detected. It was as simple as plug it all in before, but now I don't know what the problem is. I've updated my Realtek HD Audio Manager driver and restarted multiple times but nothing has changed.

This is what Windows shows. http://i.imgur.com/BJCmjRo.png
I don't know what the top one is because I've never used 'Bluetooth Hands-Free Audio'. The bottom one that just says Microphone would be the built-in microphone which has terrible sound quality and might as well not be there.

Please help cause this is beyond inconvenient and annoying. Something that works fine suddenly... Read more

My mate on skype can't hear me talking either, i have to shout in it.
So i wondered if my drivers were the cause of this problem. So i updated them and nothing changed.
I think my soundcard is called VIA P4M890 im not that into Computers so i dont know if this is right. The driver i downloaded had some software called High Definition Audio Deck to manage my soundsettings but these doesnt seem to do anything (When i try to boost my microphone).

Hi everyone.

I am having difficulty getting my headset to work correctly and I can't figure out what exactly the problem is. I am running WINXP Prof ver 2002.

My keyboard is a HP and plugs into both the microphone and speaker jacks in the rear of my computer, and has two jacks at the back of the keyboard for the Mic and Headset. When my computer speakers are plugged into the keyboard headset jack, they work fine.

When my headset is plugged in though, the sound comes out of one ear only and is very faint, despite me playing with volume controls and the computer software volume controls. This is a brand new headset, I replaced the old one because I had the same problem and thought it was the headset. Also, for some reason with this headset, when I plug the mic into the keyboard jack, then the speakers into the headphone jack, my voice comes out the speakers and it does that stupid screeching thing. This never happened with my old headset so I'm not sure how to tackle it.

Appreciate any help/info. Thanks.

Ok so i've been researching and i can not figure out what happened to my mic. its a logitech and I used it about 4 months ago and it worked fine. but when i try it now, it doesn't pick up anything ...it works on a computer with XP but not on mine with vista. Apparently one of the Vista updates messed it up.
-its plugged in the right jacks, i've tried the 2 different sets on my computer, still nothing
-I have sound through the headset speakers'
-In the "Setup Microphone" under "Speech Recognition" where you speak the sentence, the Green Bar doesnt move unless i have the Microphone Boost at max but even then it just bounces a little and doesnt pick up any sound.

-**I've tested it on a computer with XP and it worked**
-The drivers are up to date, im using Realtek HD Audio
- It's not muted, everything that says Microphone i have up
- it says the mic is working properly, ...but not so much

- i've tried everything i can think of and still nothing.

*the only thing i see that i think is different is that in "Playback" tab in the "Sound" options it only says speakers, not headset/headphones etc. Under the "Recording" tab, it has the mic there and it says its working, but its not

Hi lloydikins, welcome to the forums.

Can you do me a favour and right click the empty space where playback devices are shown, now click on "show disabled devices", this should bring up something called stereo mix, right click that and enable, now... With the headset on, can you hear anything from the microphone when you talk?

Also, the operating system doesn't show a headset as you're using analog jacks, it's just an audio device, it cannot detect a headset through analog jacks...

I have a Creative Fatal1ty Gaming Headset , the audio work's but I cannot get the mic to work.
I have a Creative soundblaster 5.1 live soundcard and a abit fatal1ty fp-in9 sli m/b. Audio works on both soundcard and on-board sound on the m/b , but not the mic .... I know some basics to computer's but I'm stuck here.

A:Headset Microphone not working

Looking at this headset, on a YouTube video, the mic portion plugs into the headset. Has this ever worked? If not, I would contact Creative as there may be a problem. Or, if you have access to another PC (a friend's) you could try it on that to see if it works.

As you have both on-board sound and a separate sound card, if you want to use the SoundBlaster you should disable the on-board in the BIOS. Having two can cause conflicts and things to not work. In addition Windows only allows one default audio playback device. Also, where are you plugging in? If its the front panel of the PC case, what audio do you have connected to the front panel? From the motherboard or from the SoundBlaster? Again, if you are using the SoundBlaster but have the motherboard audio connected to the front panel it won't work.

I have a Fatal1ty motherboard in one of my PC's, it is an ASRock Z77 Professional Fatal1ty.

Double check the wiring to the front panel connector on the motherboard for a start. Almost sounds like it could be a crossed wire there. Also make sure if you used the HD audio connection that the (I assume) onboard audio is set to HD audio in the bios. Same applies if you used the AC'97 connector, seeing as the case has both from the front panel.

Whenever I try to use the microphone in the headset I recently bought, it picks up no audio. The recording-device manager thimg marks it (Mic in front panel (black), as unplugged, even though it very clearly is not. I have, and use, a splitter to with both the microphone plug and actual headphones plug plugged into it, and that into the (only) audio jack on my computer, and even the USB cable on it plugged in. It doesn't do anything but make it light up; but it's plugged in because it makes me feel like I've tried even more stuff. I've tried restarting my computer, uninstalling and re-installing all the drivers related to sound, and really every suggestion the first 3 pages of Googling the problem has brought up, including using the troubleshooting for recording devices in contorl panel, which also says the problem is that it's not plugged in. Which it still is.  The painted-on label next to the actual audio jack is also labeled for a headset; the headphone icon there very clearly has a microphone stick-thing on it, and they work perfectly fine to hear through, they just don't listen. Is there anything I can do to make the microphone work?

What is the problem?

A:Microphone / Headset does not work

Check in the bios to see if they are enabled, you should not need any drivers. If you are using the font panel jacks look to see if nay wires are loose in the case, front panel jacks are plugged into the board. You need to look at your MOBO layout to check things out, if you do not have it you can find it on the manufacturers site.

I recently purchased the G230 Logitech Gaming Headset. It is a single wired headset that splits into to jack inputs: the microphone and speaker. The speakers work fine and I can hear everything through the headset. However, my mic is not registering and the only recording device functioning is the built in laptop mic on my Alienware M15X.

I have tried adjusting default mics,

Updating drivers,

Rolling back drivers,

Uninstalling and re-installing drivers,

I am running out of ideas. So please help! Here are my specs,

Processor: Intel Core i7-4710HQ CPU @ 2.50Gz

Memory (RAM): 16.0GB

System Type: 64-bit OS, x64-based processor / WINDOWS 10

Sound: Sound Blaster Recon 3Di by Creative Technology Ltd.

I have a Centurion Windows Vista Business computer. I have unmuted the mic. I have a pink and green plug-ins on end of cord. There is a pink one on back of pc and on front but mic doesn't work. The only green connection on back of computer is very large, round and has metal pieces in it. Cannot plug the green one in anywhere. How do I get the mic to work? I go to school online and need to speak in my seminar classes. Thanks!

I am pretty sure there are as many recording issues as there are people with microphones, and I've been searching all day for a solutions to my issues to no avail. Either the people with the microphone issues have something different going on or the thread simply ends with no solution.

So I decided to ask my own questions to you guys. Here goes.

Bought a new headset about three months ago due to a similar problem, and assuming it was an issue with a cheap headset I bought a slightly better built one.

For no reason, my microphone will not work. With the pink plug in all I get is static, with the USB attachment only silence. If I fiddle with the mic boost, the green sound bar (that indicates sound being picked up) will move to match the level of boost (boost = half way, the green bar sits at halfway).

The headphones work find with both the plug and the USB attachment, and the microphone will work in my laptop, just not my PC.

I have Win Vista 64, Realtek HD, and Logitech G330 headset. If you need any more info just ask, I'd love ANY help!

Hello, I bought ASUS Cerberus v2 headset. All components are detected, but microphone doesn't pick the sound up and while troubleshooting appears disconnected. Any tips?

Microphone works perfectly fine connected right into PC.
I'm using a splitter.
Headset connected to the phone works completely fine.

(I'm on a laptop)

So I bought a new headset the sound plays through well, but that isn't my problem the thing is It's not detected so It's not in my recording devices.

My laptop also has a build-in microphone (that doesn't show up in recording devices either).

So I can't even disable my build-in microphone, or find my headset mic so how am I supposed to make it work..?

Any solution? , Thank you for your time.

A:Can't get headset microphone to work

So what you are saying is that when you open the Sound interface and select the Recording tab, the list is empty, there is nothing there at all, completely blank even though you have a built in microphone which you can see in Devices and Printers or in Device Manager.

I've had this problem with multiple headsets--basically, the microphone picks up sounds from the headset. If the sound is loud enough to be picked up by the microphone(which is as far away as it can extend--it's built into the headset), it transmits as feedback--the louder the sound, the more painful the feedback. I'm convinced this is a problem with my onboard sound(either the quality of the hardware isn't good enough or the software is improperly configured). I'm using Realtek HD Audio drivers, up to date. As far as I can tell, i've only had this problem since I installed Windows 7.
There's also a consistent hiss sound when the microphone is transmitting(I test in Ventrilo by using two instances of myself, both transmitting and receiving the same sounds), though i've minimized it using the equalizer utility. This happens whether or not the microphone is plugged into the headset(it's detachable).

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

A:Microphone/Headset feedback

After talking with a friend, he recommended I try vent normalization(ventrilo is the only program I use where I get this reverberation) using the compressor feature and changing specific gains. This limits what my inbound volume can be--even if someone is shouting. This fixed my problem. Not only that, but I was also able to use any volume---even complete maximum volume--and get 0 reverberation/static when others speak(so even though the sound is louder than before, because of the normalization there's no reverb). The setting that worked for me was:Gain 5Attack .01Release 498Threshold -30Ratio 100Pre Delay 4Figured I'd post this if someone else ran into this problem.Ventrilo:http://www.ventrilo.com/download.php

I have been using speakers with my PC which work fine. Now I have wanted to talk to my friends on line so I tried to plug in my headset with attached microphone. I can hear fine on the headset but I can't hear my voice or use my microphone for talking to people.

When I go on vent for World of Warcraft, they say they can hear my background and stuff, and I probably have a internal mike of some sort. Do I need to turn that off or something? If so how do it do that?

I have the AC97 realtek audio drive, not sure if that helps, but it seems to be where all the sound options are.

So i bought my headset (7.1 Tracer Sphere) 4 months ago (it still has warranty) and my friends started telling me that they hear beeping and sometimes buzzing (sound of electric current going through the microphone) so i thought i would investigate.
I tested the sound of the microphone on 2 diffrent computers and the problem persists in both of them it seems.
I am wondering if this can be fixed or should i bring the headset to the retailer and try to solve it with them ? I want to be atleast 70% sure that it is the headset before i bring it to them.

These are the two recordings of my microphone:

1 channel, 16bit, 48000 Hz (DVD Quality)

1 channel, 16bit, 44100 Hz (CD Quality)
