The error I'm receiving "0XC1900101-0x40017 The install failed in the second_Boot phase with an error during Boot operation. I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

xi123 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I read your post about problems with your DV6 and wanted to help. I seriously doubt that the drive is the issue, as that would generate a very different error code. That error code indicates faulty drivers that are interfering with the Win10 Upgrade. Here's a link to an MS thread that describes what to do when you get that error code. However, I would NOT convert the drive to GPT unless is it already formatted that way: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/insider/wiki/insider_wintp-insider_install/how-to-troubleshoot-co... Hi guys,

I have a win7 machine which is unable to perform windows updates and has other issues.(Windows error: Unknown Publisher on windows files)
Each time I try to perform an update I get an error message. It doesn't matter whether I do one update at a time or all. The error messages are not the same for each time I try.
I'm guessing the two issues are related but am struggling to find a solution.

i tried to download windows Xp service pack 2 on my boss's computer but the following happened.
i went on the windows update website, i guess launched a new update software , so i waited for it to install , then it gave the choice between cutom updates or express , so i clicked on one of them.
there is a bar that comes up with green squares going thru it , and that just keeps on going forever, when i try to stop it, it would freeze the whole computer and i'll have to restart. i know it's nothing to do with the security setting in our netwrok here, because i can get windows updates on other computers on the LAN. can this be a spyware problem if so, how can i resolve. i never encountered a problem like this before.

thanks in advance

Greetings

I am unable to perform Windows Update - which I need to do before I can get on the school's network. When I click on the Windows Update tab, the dialog box holds in all gray, and will not allow me to close.

I have a filter installed on the computer (I can remove it, but prefer to have it on there) Could this be the problem?

Any suggestions would be great -- thanks in advance

Hello, this is my first time posting on this forum, so please excuse me if this is miscategorized or if I made any mistakes.
I am having issues installing updates on Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit with Service Pack 1 (I used a reinstallation DVD created from a genuine ISO download of Windows 7 Home SP1, straight from the Microsoft website). It is rather complicated, but here's
a rundown of the issues I've experienced and failed repair attempts.
I had a laptop that I was getting running for a friend of mine. He needed Windows 7 Home reinstalled. I wiped the hard drive, reinstalled Windows, and everything seemed to go fine. Windows successfully activated/validated. The internet worked fine and I
had no issues EXCEPT with Windows Update. After over a week and trying all the "fixes" mentioned below, I gave up. Now, I am having the exact same issue on 2 desktop PC's that I just got running.

Here's what I tried and how the computers reacted:

I have a Latitude E6230 running Win 7 Pro 64 bit that I purchased recently (used machine). The previous owner re-installed Win 7 and MS Office 2013 but reported that the OS will not update to Service pack 1.   I connected to the Dell website and carried out the full connected machine scan and uploaded the latest drivers and Bios.   All checked out OK but  I still get error code Oxc8000247 and cannot update Win7 with updates or SP1.  I am now at a loss on what to try next, I am a bit reluctant to re-format the drive and start from scratch as I do not possess the MS Office 2013 CD to re-load it.
Any ideas?

Hi All,

Having a problem, the one of our PCs is caught in an infinite boot loop so can't get into windows to try and run the upgrade from inside Windows.
When I try to actually do the repair install using the disk, just get the following message

"The computer started using the windows installation media. Remove the installation media and restart your computer so that Windows starts normally. Then, insert the installation media and restart the upgrade. [Do not select | Custom [advanced]| to perform an upgrade." ...

I've spent the best part of 24 hours trying to resolve this.
So far I've tried scanning using sfc /scannow /offbootdir=[DRIVELETTER]:\ /offwindir=[DRIVELETTER]:\windows
I've checked and rebuilt the boot record in case that might have been the issue

I'm trying to avoid a clean install which would have cured everything in about 30 mins, but we've a programme on there which we have to keep or else we face a really expensive bill for the software to be reinstalled by it's developers.
The last back up I have doesn't have the latest updates to the software either.

Is this fatal or is there a way round it?
I apologise if this doesn't make much sense either, sorry.

I'm currently having issues with a Windows update. It's to update .NET Framework 3.5. I've tried everything I can think of.

I keep running into an error. 80073712 for Security Update for Windows (KB2844289).

I've done a sfc /scannow, which found a few corrupted files but was able to fix them (ran it two more times after that to make sure).

I've run a chkdsk /r and I'll post the log for that.

I'm currently running a dism check, which I know will run into an error because I've done it about three or four times already, just doing it again to post the error. I run it with the /healthcheck option which tells me it's repairable but then I'll try the /restorehealth and it tells me it cannot.

And the Windows 8.1 update does not show up in the Store (why they didn't include it as a Windows update doesn't make sense to me).

Another thing I tried to do was turn off the Windows Update service, rename the SoftwareDistribution folder then start the Windows Update service again to see if that would fix the update issue, no luck.

A:Can't perform a Windows Update (KB2844289) or Upgrade to 8.1

Here's an update:

Here is what DISM tells me:

Running with the /scanhealth option:

The componet store is reparable.
The operation completed successfully.

Here it is running with the /restorehealth option:

The restore operation failed. Either the repair source was not found or the componet store cannot be repaired.

Error: 0x800f081f

DISM failed. No operation was performed.
For more information, review the log file.

The DISM log file can be found at C:\Windows\Logs\DISM\dism.log

And I'll upload the log file.

Hey guys, this is the first time I have reached out to try and fix this problem. I haven't been able to do updates for a couple years and I have been working on this off and on.
I am reluctant to post this, since it may be the cause of the problems.... however... I think my problem stems from messing around with the drivers when I original purchased the computer. It could have also occurred when I upgraded to Windows 7 Professional... Everything seemed to work fine like updates for about a year or so. Didn't notice the updates not working until about a 2 years ago when I realized my laptop was having issues playing FFXI and I found that my graphics card was not using any resources, as well as other things seem to not working. Such as sfc /scannow, when I run it I get an error after about 10-15 minutes saying "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation.", and when I run DXDiag I get very little information on my computer with a lot of N/A's, though the amount of RAM is correct as is the video memory (I think) despite not showing the correct graphics processor.

I went to school for this kind of stuff and have just fooled myself all these years, acting like I actually know stuff. I mean I may have been able to figure it out back then. But not a chance now.

I can't even remember any of the steps I followed from other peoples solutions and posts over the past... So if the previous stuff isn't actually needed for your information... I apolo... Read more

Yes.

Windows Anytime Upgrade - How to

Save a backup image before and after you unlock the few extra expensive features in Ultimate as this will be the much easier way to recover either version.

You can always migrate the Ultimate elsewhere if you want. Having the Home Premium image makes this a lot easier.

Hello. I have a question that I have seen posted by Microsoft MVPs and computer experts on how to do a "Windows Vista Upgrade/Repair Install". One of many websites that states this can be done:
http://vistasupport.mvps.org/repair_a_vista_installation_using_the_upgrade_option_of_the_vista_dvd.htm

Yes, read the first two paragraphs at the top. Yes, it is important to what I have to say. Let me add to John's statement that if you remove the SP1 add-on from the Windows Vista SP1 you already have on system (bringing it back to Windows Vista SP0 -- the original release of Windows Vista), and attempt to do a Windows Vista Upgrade/Repair Install with your original Windows Vista SP0 installation disc, the "Upgrade" option during the installation process is TOO grayed-out... ...and you CANNOT do a Windows Vista Upgrade/Repair Install EITHER!

So, how exactly do you do a "Windows Vista Upgrade/Repair Install"????? ...cannot seem to get the "Upgrade" option to be active in order to repair Windows Vista operating system?!?!? ...ANYWAY AROUND THIS??????????????? Please reply.

Hi MonteCarlo1987,

If you have a Full version of Vista then you may not be able to do a Repair (Upgrade) install. Some people have had problems with a Full retail version letting them be able to do a upgrade install, but a Upgrade version can though. Did you run the installation from within your current Vista and not from booting from the installation DVD?

I have tried a number of times now to upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10. It always fails and puts out an error WindowsUpdate_C0000005.

I did a search on this error which recommended using the Windows Updater Repair which I have done. However at the end of this it states it is unable to fix Windows Updater Error 0x80070057.
Another search done led me to https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/53a1f2ab-037b-438e-a690-00a0e745730d/windows-7-update-error-0x80070057?forum=w7itprogeneral which suggests using RegEdit to fix the problem however the keys that

Hello, I am trying to perform an upgrade from Windows Vista Ultimate to Windows 7 Ultimate. But I get this error when I press upgrade.

Windows Vista? Ultimate cannot be upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate. You can choose to install a new copy of Windows 7 Ultimate instead, but this is different from an upgrade, and does not keep your files, settings, and programs. You?ll need to reinstall any programs using the original installation discs or files. To save your files before installing Windows, back them up to an external location such as a CD, DVD, or external hard drive. To install a new copy of Windows 7 Ultimate, click the Back button in the upper left-hand corner, and select ?Custom (advanced)?.

My computer automatically updated to Windows 10. Initially, it just has a black screen so I had to do a hard reset (following instructions from the support site). Now it says I'm connected to the Internet but Internet explorer says it's not.I've updated the driver software and that has not made any difference. The next piece of advise is to get the hp network assitant to help, but that was uninstalled in the hard reset. Can anyone help? I've never had any problems with this computer before.

Tried to upgrade my computer from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10.   Failed over 20 times.  Most common error message pertained to "Drivers".   After Microsoft started charging for Windows 10 I called them to see if it would work if I bought the disk.   Microsoft looked up the HP 800-030qe in its data base and said: I would never be able to upgrade my computer to Windows 10 because HP could not or would not supply the necessary Windows 10 drivers to allow the computer to be upgraded.  I would appreciate if a HP representative would confirm this.   Am I stuck with 8.1 until I buy a new computer?      Thank you. I can supply a Belarc Advisor evaluation if that would help. Bill Detert / Springfield / IL

I just purchased Windows 7 64bit upgrade.

I installed it on my Windows XP computer. According to the official microsoft guidance, this upgrade can only be done as a "clean" or "custom" install - in place installs don't work when upgrading a 32bit system to 64bit.

Anyway, I installed Windows 7 no problem, but when trying to activate I am told 0xC004F061 error, This product key is licensed only for upgrading, not for clean installations.

What do I do? This is a valid CD for installing Windows 7 to an XP computer, and I have a valid XP COA - how do I activate the software I paid for?

Bless,
Chris

Hi guys

I am having real problems loading security updates for Windows 7. Have been to many sites and Microsft are now telling me to upgrade windows 7 but i am having issues with ATI Catalyst Install Manager and ATI Catalyst Control Centre. The upgrade gets half way through and then rolls back.

It asks me to uninstall these programs but unfortunately they do not appear in my programs and features in the control panel.

It would appear it is ghosting somewhere (my term I dont know what the official term would be lol) and I dont know how to find or remove it.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
J

A:Unable to. Upgrade windows 7 because of ati issues

Two ideas:

1) Re-install the Catalyst package, and then uninstall it normally.

2) Driver Sweeper: Phyxion.net - Driver Sweeper

Of course, a clean re-install of Windows would fix your problem.

I am trying to perform a clean/custom install of Windows 7 Professional 32-bit on my VAIO SZ-650N. I have the upgrade disc and though its primary purpose is to upgrade from Vista to Windows 7, it is confirmed to work with clean installs as well. Since I want to perform a clean install, I must boot the installation from the disc and not within the OS. The problem is that when I insert the disc into the drive and start up the computer, it'll pause for a moment longer than usual, as if it detects that the CD is there, like I can hear the disc spinning in the drive, and this little gray underscore will blink on the screen, but it will never give me the "Press any key to boot from CD" message and it'll eventually just load up my OS. The disc is in perfect condition and I can view its contents and run it from within the operating system...I just can't boot from it. Even the directions for clean/custom installs that come with this disc say that it must be done from the disc, not when the OS is loaded. The problem can't possibly be my BIOS startup order, because first of all the disc drive is selected to load first thing and when I insert other bootable CD's such as my beta copy of Windows 7, I can boot from it fine. Does anyone know a fix to this? Or a workaround that doesn't require me to boot from the disc? Thanks.

Edit: It will not let me do a custom install from within the OS regardless because it is unable to detect any drives/partitions to install ... Read more

Where did you get the upgrade disk from, is it one you created from an ISO file you downloaded?

I installed a new motherboard, CPU & memory today. Prior to this, I decided not to do a clean install of windows, but just to boot up & repair if needed when the new configuration booted up. I DID do a backup of data before dismantling the old system, so I have that saved.

However, when I started the new system, the repair will not work. I can't get Windows to see the external drive where the backup data is stored.

I'm now re-installing Windows over the top of the old installation using the custom option, & my main question is this: Can I restore using the backup I made before the upgrade or will I lose all that data? When using the custom installation option, does it automatically save the old data?

A:Unable to repair Windows 7 after hardware upgrade

The correct way to start Win7 when changing major hardware is to SysPrep the HD: Windows 7 Installation - Transfer to a New Computer

Your backup should work after reinstall. Enter Backup and Restore Center if you used Win built-in file backup. Backup User and System Files

If you have an image backup you can use it now from the booted DVD or REpair CD to reimage rather than reinstall Win7. System Image Recovery

Dear HP community, i am am currently having an issue with my computer of 5 years. I have been rejecting the Windows 10 update for as long as I could but ultimately it did a self update and shortly after updating, I was unable to even start up my computer as I kept getting stuck at the loading page with two errors "error with FAT32 hard drive" and "error with NTFS hard drive". To which, the subsequent message would be "we are attempting to resolve this issue by restarting your computer" and I would be stuck in the infinite loop where my computer cannot start upi would appreciate any and all forms of help as this is highly frustrating, given that my school term has started and I am suddenly without a computer. Please help! Thank you. RegardsYi Xiang

I was able to upgrade both of my laptops but usually a netbook does not have enough installed memory for the windows 10 upgrade.  My netbook will not upgrade either but it doesn't have the memory.   It has to have at least 16gb of free memory installed.   Because of the size of netbook most do not have that much memory.   It was not a problem stunt by Microsoft as I and all of my family and friends have upgraded their laptops and desktops but not netbooks.  Just for the record I am speaking honestly because I am not a Microsoft fan at all.

Installed a recommended BIOS upgrade on my HP Envy. Everything went smooth until after I rebooted the laptop. I was unable to login to Windows 10. My username would show up correctly, but my password would not take. Panicked, I searched for a solution from another laptop and was almost ready to reset the laptop to factory condition. However, I knew that I would certainly lose some software that I installed prior to the BIOS upgrade. I decided against doing this because it would certainly take hours and hours to recover all that and most installed software is licensed.I found a forum entry that recommended trying to reset the Windows password on https://account.live.com/password/reset. I did this from another laptop. It is simple. One is prompted to enter the phone number or e-mail address used to originally register the password. Next, a code is sent to the phone or, in my case, to my e-mail address. Upon entering the code I entered a new password. Using the new password I was able to login to Windows again and all was well again. I am listing my experience in the event someone else is running into a similar problem and don't know how to get out of it. It can be a scary situation, especially when keeping business information and software on your laptop. HP should have done a much better job and warning users of potential problems prior too upgrading the BIOS and, of course, telling users what to do in case of upgrade issues.

Unable to access the computer in question to send information or I do not know how under these conditions.

An uninstalling to reinstall Norton 360 never completed. After 12 hours I rebooted only to find that I as no longer able to boot into Windows 10 with the Anniversary Update. I am trying to lose as little as possible. All of the Library is backed up onto a USB external MyBook drive.

Booting from USB the Repair function said it could not repair it. The restore points all three of them are unsuccessful.

I have rescue USB thumb drives, and thumb drive and CDs using the Media Creation Windows 10 strategy. I never see the option of refreshing Windows 10. I only see Reset that keeps files (not programs I installed) and not keeping my files.

When I try to use the thumb drive or CD created with the Media Creation Tool it starts to get ready to install. Then I get the message that I booted from the other than the hard drive and it requires that I remove the external boot source and reboot to do the windows 10 update install from another computer but my problem is that I can only boot from one of those sources. Any way I can override that request and continue or would that be helpful? Otherwise I keep getting the light blue screen saying that it must reboot due to ?IRQL not less or equal?.

Is using the Safe Mode helpful in any way?

Any help or guidance is appreciated. Thanks.

Hello Salt, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Since this has just happened today, you might see if you may be able to do a system restore using a restore point (if available) dated before this started to hopefully fix it.

Hope this helps,
Shawn
