I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi there,
When choosing the Win 10 install I am given these options:
Select Language: English (United Kingdom), English (United States)

are there any major differences? apart from the obvious one - certain words are spelt differently...

Since upgrading to Windows 8.1 my keyboard is no longer set to English (United Kingdom) - so I keep getting US keyboard settings for various characters like @ when typing ! In Windows 8 I could change the settings easily in Control Panel >Clock, Language, Region. But now when I go to Control Panel> Language it seems that English (United Kingdom) is only available as a download. I tried to download and install the update but although it downloaded OK it was taking so long to install that I cancelled the operation in desperation !

A:English (United Kingdom) language

since upgrading to Windows 8.1 I've had a number of problems, some I've been able to sort.

But I am having trouble getting the English(United Kingdom) version keyboard. In the Language section of the Control Panel it is shown as my preferred setting, but if I roll mouse over it then says it's 'available' to download. Tried that, downloaded OK but wouldn't install ('hung' for over 30 minutes doing nothing before I gave up and cancelled !). Didn't have this problem with Windows 8 (or any previous versions of Windows either). As far as I am aware all previous versions have had both US and UK versions installed requiring only the user to make a simple switch with just a couple of clicks !

Hi, fellow Windows 7 Users. I have two Keyboard Layouts on my system. EN English (United Kingdom) and JP Japanese (Japan). For no reason, United States pops up there and I cannot remove it in the Keyboard Layouts. This system was bought in the UK and has a UK Keyboard Layout, this has nothing to do with the United States Keyboard Layout. Why does this keep popping up? And how can I stop this? Thanks in advance!

A:EN English (United States) Keeps Installing Itself!

Hi, I started having the same problem on my computer recently, for no reason. I also have JP Japanese (Japan) installed (along with French, which is also the language of my OS) however I've had it installed for more than a year.

Did you eventually find a solution to your problem or does someone have ideas now given that we both have Japanese installed?

PS: you can remove it by installing EN Enlgish (United States) and deleting it, but it will come back anyway next time you restart your computer or use the alt+shift shortcut.

I have it set up with English display language and Norwegian for keyboard. After a restart its reverted back to English keyboard and I have to manually change it.

I have turned off sync between other win 8 machines, since that initially messed things up, but it still does this.

In Control Panel\Clock, Language, and Region\Language English layout with Norwegian keyboard is set at first, and region is set to Norway.

Laptop: Acer Aspire One
Op system: Windows XP Home Edition - Version 2002 - Service Pack 3

I am using the keyboard that comes on the laptop, not an external one. I use the keybord with the United States-International setting in order to use the accents of Latin languages.

For the last month or so this is happening with all applications (Word 2007, IE Explorer, Firefox, etc): when I press some keyboard keys the response on the screen is not what it is supposed to be with the international keyboard.

For example, ' shows '', ~ shows ~~, so I can't print any accented vowels. It was working properly for almost two years and suddenly started this erratic behavior.

I have not made any changes except the Microsoft updates. I have tried adding and removing the international keyboard several times. I also tried with num lock off, and that was not the problem. The keyboard layout is set to US international correctly, it shows correctly on the task bar, but the characters do not print as expected.

I read in some web-board that apparently the same issue is happening to users of Windows 7 latest version patched, and that maybe a recent Windows Update has broken International keyboard for XP, Vista and 7. Based on that, I removed the Windows updates dating back to when I recall all was well. Still, problem unresolved.

Any suggestions?

Thank you very much

Issue since moving from IE9 to IE11 in the office

I've changed the Language Preference on IE11 to add both of them, English by default
Microsoft Office is already set to use both language

Although using Internet Explorer, we are having an issue where it only seem to spell check one language, giving errors when typing words in the other language.

Read on the internet some people that added both language in the keyboard layout, but that's not an interesting solution because first the French keyboard layout does all the English keys and second people tend to accidentaly switch language while typing
using shortcut or whatever

Any help regarding this issue would be appreciated

I was doing a crossword puzzle online and all of the sudden a couple of windows flashed across the screen and the language changed from all English to a mixed English and Arabic (I believe). The menu bar at top of screen is gone too. HELP!

A:Language on my computer changed from English to English and (I believe) Arabic

Press the Windows flag key + R and in the Run open field type: intl.cpl (press enter)
Check that the drop down box under Format: English is set to Match Windows Display language (recommended)"

I would be a little leery that something malicious may have been installed on the computer to cause this unwanted change. You may want to update and run any AV and or anti-malware programs you may have installed.

Hello everyone...

I'm a new user of the Windows 7 operating system. So far I'm content with it, it's just that I have one problem unsolved. I've been trying for the past few weeks to remove the English US keyboard without any success. I have no problem adding any new keyboards/languages, but that specific keyboard just won't go away, and it's causing me trouble.

I've Googled it and found no answer. Is there any way I could do something about it? Anyone has any idea? Anything would be useful. Thanks for this community and thanks in advance for your help.

Ok, I have searched everywhere on Google for a solution to this, but I couldn't even find anyone else with this problem. My problem is, that after being on my computer for awhile, the English layout will appear out of nowhere in the language bar, even though I do not have it activated, so there is no way I can get rid of it, except for restarting my computer. Does anyone know how I could get it to stop doing this? To most people it probably wouldn't be a problem, but it bothers me to have it there when I won't use it, and I always make extensive use of keyboard shortcuts, and skipping from one layout to another a lot, so it makes it harder and longer to switch between them. I have included a picture to illustrate this.

Also, to avoid making two threads (unless I should), does anyone know how to edit the layouts of the Korean IME's layout, so I can have the Korean characters in a custom layout, instead of the prescribed way? Many thanks in advance for both questions, and thank you for your time!

The "United States-International" keyboard layout option is supposed to let you type accents by pressing the right-alt key at the same time as ' " ~ ` or ^ followed by the letter you want to accent. For some reason on my computer the right-alt key does not work for this purpose, but left-alt and left-shift do. Unfortunately this is conflicting with all sorts of things so I really need to figure out how to get it to work with the right-alt key as it is supposed to. I have no idea what could be causing this problem so I don't know what other information to include. Any idea how to get this working properly for me?

Why I hate Internet Explorer
Had some trouble with the annoying Babylon search I finally managed to get rid of it but was left with Bing as the default search engine I prefer Google so I went to add it but it was absent from the UK search providers the only real competition for Bing that
Microsoft allows is the Ask & Yahoo search engines plenty of rubbish options like confused.com or BBC music search but no Google !
I did find a Google accelerator in the add-ons but you cannot set it as the default search engine.
I had to revisit the search engine page & change the gb in the Address bar to us & get the Google search provider from the US site.

A:IE9 pathetic choice of search providers in the United Kingdom

Have you tried clicking on Tools/Manage Add-ons/Search Providers, then highlight Google and choose in the lower part of the window "Set as default".

So I purchased a Lenovo X1 Yoga in Japan and I absolutely hate Japanese keyboard layouts (anyone that has used one after using a US keyboard knows what I mean - a space bar that is smaller than the enter key, poor placement of certain keys, specifically ", ', and @. There is just no logic behind any of it and honestly, there is no need. One can easily type in Japanese, just fine, with a standard US English layout keyboard. Sorry, I guess I didn't need to state that, but perhaps it will help with SEO to ensure someone finds this page when searching for those keywords.  Anyway, I finally found the information I needed to swap this keyboard out (and throw it in the trash), even though Lenovo support in Japan basically told me it's not possible. It does seem like a huge undertaking though (as you basically have to dismantle the entire laptop to get the keyboard out). But it does seem as though the English keyboards are compatible with all X1 Yoga laptops (even my Japanese X1 Yoga). The Lenovo customer service staff told me to get FRU PN: 00JT864 (00JT864 N KBD,US,LB,screw,CHY,Backlit), which is the US English replacement keyboard. It's also specified on the PDF document  on this page (https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/PD103738 ) for the 20FR and 20FQ. Scroll half way down and you will see it.  However, I am having trouble finding the keyboard from a seller in Asia, with the same FRU #. When searching for 00JT864, the only source I can... I don't have the windows software CD to try to do a system restore and I'm not sure if you can even do a system rstore if you can't logon. I've tried just about everything that I could think of and nothing has worked. At this point I dont care if I losse everything on the computer I just need it to work. Could someone please help me or at least point me in the right direction to get this issue solved. How can I fix this???

If you still have English listed as one of your languages, you should be able to navigate through your listed languages using CTRL+SHIFT, even from the login screen.
