I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I have the same problem. This is also effecting the gen4 . With the latest "n1cgr16w.exe". First, it takes a long time to switch between tabs in "Synaptics Control Panel", Ok", "Cancel" is taking forever to close the dialogbox. Also no checkbox can be selected in "Scroll" tab. This latest driver literally does not work. It CANNOT even provide the simplest functionality. Need to rollback the changes asap. Thanks

Sunday night the Lenovo companion did a few updates including a BIOS update and also an update for the Synaptics, but I can't see it in the Installation History (it doesn't show up). Anyway, after that update, the touchpad doesn't move the mouse anymore. I can still click it, but it doesn't respond to any gestures. I checked in BIOS and it's enabled, I checked all possible settings and it's all enabled and on. Any ideas of what I could try?

So, during the windows installer, no mouse. I couldn't see the pointer, neither the touchpad or trackpoint worked. I managed through using the keyboard, then once I got to the desktop I installed the "Synaptics ThinkPad UltraNav Driver for Windows 10 (64-bit) - ThinkPad" driver and rebooted. Still not working. I installed the thinkvantage system update, it detects no updates. I installed the service bridge. No updates. I then made a linux live USB that I use to install manjaro on all my laptops, yes everything worked out of the box on my previous x1 carbon. Touchpad doesn't work, xorg doesn't even recognize any touchpad present. Anyone else have this? Any solutions? This is actually my 2nd X1 carbon; the first works well but the mouse buttons are loose so Lenovo promised waived restocking and shipping with the purchase of a new order of equal or greater value; I ordered another one with plans to return the first one, because I really needed to keep it for work while I waited for the new one. The new one is actually flawless in terms of build, mouse buttons are solid, the CMOS battery is not loose and producing a rattling noise as it is in the first one, and the bottom cover doesn't have the clicking noise that so many are afflicted with. Really I'm willing to try anything to fix the touchpad.

Is there a way we can change the touchpad Reverse scrolling option (Scroll --> Two Finger Scrolling --> Switch Direction) on the X1 Carbon through an automated way. We see that after Windows 10 upgrade, the scroll option on the touchpad has been changed. So doing it manually it works but we want to automate it either through a registry change or some other method. Yes manual changes works perfectly.

Recently got a new Carbon x1, and everything was working fine, but once I closed the laptop and when I woke it up neither TrackPoint nor touchpad was working. Reboots didn't help. Tried installing Synaptics drivers - it said there was no device for update. Device manager detects the touchpad as Microsoft mouse with corresponding drivers (screenshot attached).  Also tried installing update for TrackPoint from the drivers list, it said it needed a reboot to install, after reboot there was an error window that suggested trying once again, several times I saw this message.Anyone have this? Are there any possible solutions?(Searched on the forum, but the solutions were not for my case or didn't work)P.S. It would be kinda stupid for a $1500 laptop not to work because of a touchpad

HI All I am in need of help please i have a X1 Carbon that was Recently purchased for a user at our office. But as you can tell from the subject of this topic the touchpad and trackpad stops working working after a few minutes of working on the machine.  I used Lenovo System Update to update all the drivers to the latest version and this was not successfull, I then tried a reinstall  of windows and the manually downloaded the driver from lenovo website and installed it but still no luck. I have checked and they are not disabled in the Bios and they are not and the Bios is on the latest version I have also tried to let it run on the windows driver that downloads from windows but also it stops working. from what it looks like the trackpoint and touchpad disable cause when i go into the mouse properties the option to enable them both is greyed out i then log on as the local admin to see if it is a permission thing but it is also greyed out. This happens regardless if the machine is on battery or plugged inThis user travels  alot and needs them both to be working.  I came across the below forum but i dont see much of a response from lenovo.https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-Carbon-touchpad-and-trackpad-stops-working...

Received my new X1 Carbon 2014 this week. Have used it for 5 hrs now, and how probably restarted about 30-40 times.  Anyone know what is causing this problem and/or how I can fix it?     //alex

The touchpad of my brand new X1C gen6 works only 5% of the time in Ubuntu 18.04.1, and I want to help the developers troubleshoot the issue. (See my comment #28 on this bug.) How can I figure out what touchpad model I have? I went to the Parts Lookup site and entered my serial number, got a list of 70 "As built" components, but nothing about touchpad or the trackpoint. Instead, I see far less relevant stuff like "protection plate" or "hinge", or parts without any information about what they are, with only a part number like SB20Q12413. I've downloaded the parts list in XLSX format, but it's the same useless information.

Just one person's opinion, but I find the lack of separate physical buttons on the X1 Carbon touchpad to be a real impediment to using the computer without a mouse.  Looks sleek, not functional.  Maybe if enough people agree with me we can at least get an option for buttons in the future.  Who's with me?

Hey there, ever since I got my X1 Carbon 6th gen i tried to solve the problem, that my touchpad works not as intended after it goes to sleep mode. When I wake it up, the cursor behaves very sluggish (as if mouse accelaration is on  and tap to click as well as two-finger-click to execute a right click aren't working.Though tripple and quad finger gestures are working just fine. So far I reinstalled my Touchpad drivers multiple times. Windows was going through multiple updates, so a broken Windows Version shouldn't be a problem as well. Right now I'm running Windows 10 (Version 1803) and everything else works just fine. After I restart the notebook everything behaves as it should be, but this is a major problem for me because I often have to switch the desk during the day and don't really have the time to always shutdown and start my X1. Hope someone can help me, have a nice day

Just got my new X1 6th generation. Everything works fine except the touchpad customization. When I try to customize the touchpad within the mouse settings, it shows me only two options 1. General, light touch/heavy touch and palm touch adjustments 2. advanced, with only the edge region filtering In my previous x1, I could adjust at least 15 parameters. I would like to adjust the momentum (the screen keeps moving even when you stop the touchpad movement)...but this option is not available.  Is this normal (have they changes the number of customization options that they give now)   or there is some issue with the driver etc?any solutions?

Hi All, Just got my X1 Carbon (5th Gen) a week ago.  I am experiencing a weird behaviour with two-finger scrolling on the touchpad. When I got it with default software setup, about 1 in every 5-6 times when I tried to scroll using two-fingers, instead of scrolling it would just move the mouse pointer. After a few days, I re-installed Windows using Microsoft's ISO and all of the latest drivers from Lenovo's website.  Now, with about same frequency, two-finger scrolling doesnt work at all.  That is neither the page scrolls or the pointer moves. Scrolling works when I retry. I am wondering if this is might be a driver related issue or if I have a hardware issue again? Anybody else having a similar problem?

Hi, Sytem: I run a Ubuntu Mate 18.04 System in virtualbox, the host system also being Ubuntu Mate 18.04. Issue: I have enabled "activate mouse clicks with touchpad" in the host (you can't adjust touchpad settings in the guest, nor can you enable or disable it in the guest). It seems completely random whether taping the touchpad does make a click - it works about 50% of the time. If it doesn't work I have to press the touchpad or use the buttons above the touchpad which is annoying because I prefer tapping and I have to tap, realize that it doesn't work and then click a different way. Question: What may be the cause? What is the solution? Thanks!

I have the X1 Carbon 6th Gen model 20KHCTO1WW. This seems to be triggered by me picking up the laptop.  If anyone knows what device in device manager is responsible for detecting whether the laptop is on a stable surface or in someone's hands or on their lap, maybe disableing that divice would help.   My touchpad starts acting insane every now and then.  It will move all over the screen sporadically, randomly scroll the page up and down, zoom in and out, click all by itself, etc.  When it is not doing things by itself, it will have limited/reduced sensitivity, and attempts to reduce zoom by "pinching" my fingers minimize windows instead of zooming out.  It also moves around or scrolls when I type.  It is really annoying me.  It is randomly minimizing this window, scrolling down, and switching windows while I'm typing this, and I'm taking extra care not to touch the touchpad at all.     I have had this laptop since early September, and now it is October 11.  This problem has only been happening this week.  Two things changed just before it started happening that could be related to this: 1. Hi, changuri

I would recommend trying to install the Synaptics base driver and see if that helps your issues. Synaptics is the company that produces the UltraNav driver for Lenovo, so there should not be any loss of functionality, but it tends to fix issues like this in my experience. This driver can be found here. Try downloading and installing that and see if it helps.

Best of luck,
Adam

I just received my x1 carbon, just a day before relocating to Spain. I didn't have time to check it out thoroughly before I left, but everything seemed fine. When trying it out upon arrival I imediately noticed a rattling sound from the touchpad. Just tapping the touchpad lightly produces noise, not to mention doubble tapping which is aweful. The touchpad seems to be centered and in level with the rest, but doesn't appear to be screwed on properly. A lenovo store here in Madrid only had the cheaper models, but the touchpads on these where all firm like a macbook. I'm a little hesitant about calling the spanish lenovo service as my spanish is severily limited atm. Has enyone else experienced this? Thanks.

In September 2017 I ordered and received my ThinkPad X1 Carbon 5th gen laptop.  So far I have found the computer to be outstanding, with one enormous and seriously troubling flaw:  the trackpad / touchpad mouse.  While I have not had the issues with the mouse/arrow suddenly disappearing or freezing, I have found the trackpad to be incredibly tempermental.  For example, when working in Word with tables and you attempt to widen or narrow the width of columns, it is incredibly difficult to easily position the mouse/cursor over the bars of the columns.  Using the trackpad, the pointer will stop moving as you move your finger across the trackpad, but then you move your finger just the slightest bit more, and it moves right over the place where you want the arrow/cursor to be. For example, if I roll my finger tip left or right (not move it, just roll the tip of my finger) the cursor will sometimes respond and other times will not.  It is this gentle rolling that is needed to get the cursor in just the right spot sometimes - but no, not with this laptop. This is a problem in every application i've used thus far and it makes the computer absolutely inferior to my last ThinkPad (T430S) which had an oustanding trackpad that was easy to maneuver and very friendly to the touch.  I have loaded all the latest drivers for the computer and specific ones for the touchpad, but they have not resolved this problem.  I am a professor at a university an... I've got a new X1 Carbon 6th gen running Windows 10 1803. Everything is perfect except for the touchpad. The touchpad is sluggish and laggy. The cursor on the screen moves smoothly but lags behind my finger movement by about 0.5 seconds. I have set the cursor speed to the fastest and set the touch sensititivy to "most sensitive" but it's not working. At the time of writing this post, I'm runnning the latest drivers directly from the lenovo website and I have updated the firmware for the touchpad and I have also updated to the latest BIOS as well. I updated to the latest Intel Serial IO Driver from Lenovo's website and that hasn't done anything. I know this is a Windows 10 issue because booting into safe mode gets rid of the lag/sluggish cursor speed.

Dear community, I have this rather special issue that I would like to ask for your assistance with. The case: I have a Lenovo X1 Carbon 2nd generation (20A7) running Windows 10 x64. One day, the touchpad stopped working, but initially by making the cursor jump around the screen when I used the touchpad and later with no response at all. Currently, neither the touchpad or the trackpoint work and only when combining all of my effort and luck (emphasis on the latter) I can get a response. For instance, I recently had luck reinstalling the UltraNav driver which made the touchpad respond, though rather "patchy", but only until I restarted the computer. The background: I bought the laptop while living the United States but have since moved to Denmark where I cannot use what remains of my warranty. I tried calling the Lenovo callcenter and an employee suggested that I enabled the touchpad in the BIOS and reinstalled the driver, but when that did not work, he fell short on advice. It seems that those guys are primarily there to help old people create a password and what not. The twist: I am aware that one excellent possible solution to my issue is that I can do a clean install of Windows on my device. However, I currently have a limited use version of some very expensive software installed and I need that in my daily work and cannot get a new version right away, so doing that would set me back quite a lot.&nbs... Hello and welcome,

It seems that you're leaning toward a software rather than a hardware problem.  You might try booting a live Linux USB flash drive to verify that the hardware works.

It's typical for ThinkPads to have international warrantees.  Have you verified your specific coverage?   SUPPORT above, then International Services in the Warranty and Repair drop-down.

If your machine is eligible for local warranty service they will probably reinstall the OS as a diagnostic - and possible repair - effort.  If you can isolate to a hardware issue as suggested above you might avoid that step.

I've just replaced the battery on my Carbon X1, and the new battery is interfering with the touchpad, making it hard to press the buttons. The new battery (actually a new, used battery, but it's way better than the original) isn't puffet out at all and as far as I can tell is no thicker than the original, but it seems to stick up somewhat from the bottom (when the keyboard is removed, I can press it down but it pops up just enough to interfere). There don't appear to be any fasteners on the bottom side of the battery, so I'm not sure exactly what it supposed to hold it in down. Anyone? Thanks!

So I got my Kaby Lake 20HR Carbon last week. I loaded it up and played with it- fell in love. I almost always use a mouse, except when I am running around carrying this thing under my arm. A few days later, I replaced the SSD with an Intel 600P 512 GB NVMe. I could not migrate my stuff, so I did a fresh install. After install, I fully update both from Lenovo and Windows standpoint. Then I go to work.. and my touchpad is funny. It works- all gestures work, tapping, double taping, swiping. It is very sensitive and high quality. But the BOTTOM buttons don't work, really. I am not talking about the touchpoint buttons at the top of the pad- those work great. But the bottom of the touchpad itself only works if you press it really hard. Also, it does not make any sort of satisfying click like a button. Am I crazy? Am I just rememberming my old device, which had two click regions in the bottom left and right corner? That doesnt seem right, because this touchpad DOES left and right click if you press hard in the bottom left and right corners. Could the drivers or something have messed up with the hardware clickyness? My last laptop was a Lenovo Yoga Pro 2, my wife had a Lenovo and just upgraded to the Flex 5... and they all have click regions on the bottom quadrants that make a noise and give you feedback of a click.

There are a number of posts about this problem on another forum, but I figured I would start one here to make sure Lenovo is aware of it. Since the arrival of my 2017 x1 carbon, the touchpad has had what appears to be some sort of driver issue. The pad works fine for a few minutes after restart, then randomly it starts to have some sort of issue where it starts freezing up each time you lift your finger and put it down again. The tap to click feature no longer functions, and the cursor jumps around randomly as well. These problems go away after a restart, but will start again after ~5-10 minutes of use. It makes the computer pretty much unusable and is extremely frustrating. The only thing I've found to help is disabling the trackpoint in the synaptics settings, which brings back the tap to click, but doesn't help with the freezing issue. This also disables the physical buttons above the touchpad, which is a big part of what I love about thinkpad hardware! The problem happens on both the lenovo supplied windows 10 pro install, as well as a fresh install of windows 10 pro, both using the drivers supplied on Lenovos website. The specs for my machine are below. If anyone else is experiencing this or has any info please respond with which x1 specs youre running and anything you may have tried. Im also curious if anyone is NOT experiencing this issue, which could indicate it might not be entirely software related. X1 Carbon 2017I5-7300U512 nVME PCIe SSDWindows 10 Pro x64... Read more

Hi, After installing Windows 10, I began to have issues with the left click button on the touchpad.  The left click suddenly stops functioning, and it does not work again until I reboot the computer.  It is not a hardware issue as I have tested this by changing the functionality between the left and right buttons, at which point the left button works again.  My sense is there is a bug in the touchpad's driver software under the new operating system.  I have tried to uninstall and reinstall drivers, I have scanned to ensure the computer does not have a virus, and I have reinstalled the operating system.  None of this solves the issue.  The left mouse click on the touchpad will still suddenly stop working at some period of time after using the computer (generally after leaving the computer idle and later resuming use).   Any ideas, thoughts, suggestions are welcome.  Is it a bug in the driver software for the touchpad that needs to be fixed for Windows 10?   Thanks you!
