Preferred Solution: Internet Explorer Security Security Plugin 2006

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Run both Adaware and Spybot Search and Destroy from safe mode, updating each program?s malware definitions before you scan and allowing both to fix what they find.If you do not already have these freeware aps installed on your computer, you can get them at the following sites:*AdAware SE: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download506.html*Spybot S&D: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.htmlFollowing that that I suggest you post a ?HijackThis? log for expert assistance with your malware infection.Read the pinned post in our ?HijackThis? forum, here http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/34773/preparation-guide-for-use-before-using-malware-removal-tools-and-requesting-help/ Carefully read and follow all directions explicitly.Following instructions create a HJT log, and POST THE HJT LOG YOU CREATED IN OUR HJT FORUM ? not in this forum, at this link. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/posthjtlog.htmlInclude the specs for your computer (ie, processor, amount of RAM, brand or motherboard, etc, and briefly describe the problem you are experiencing.)Unless you are expert at editing the registry, Do not use the Hijack This program to try to fix anything by yourself as even what may seem to be a small mistake can render your operating system inoperable. Some files when in the correct folder for them may be fine while in another may be malware hiding. Hi, I have been having some disturbing problems with my computer recently. After running a Spy Sweeper virus scan, I discovered a Trojan/Zlob virus which I thought I took care of by removing. Now, I am having troubles with my Internet Explorer and Firefox browsers, as they will randomly decide to not load anything at all or only after hitting refresh at least 20 times. Typing in a URL takes ages and 3 times so farnone of my browsers were working and when i closed the browser window my computer immediately bluescreened and crashed. When I start Windows back up and report the error, I get a report saying it is caused by an unknown driver. I looked into my Add/Remove list and found Internet Explorer Security plugin 2006 and Internet Security Addon, whihc I thought were suspicious. I googled them and found that they were indeed malware caused by the Trojan/Zlob and I read that removing is in the Add/Remove list would not solve the problem. I dont know what else there may be on my computer, but I performed each step as reccomended in the prep guide for posting a hijackThis log file and I am still having these problems. Welcome to the BleepingComputer forum. We are currently studying your log and will have instructions for you shortly. Thank you for your patience.HijackThis is an analysis AND a repair tool. When you fix something in HijackThis, you are deleting a bad entry in the Windows Registry. In case of a mistake being made, there is a reversal for line entry deletions. HijackThis creates a new file which is a backup log of changes and you can reverse the line entry deletion. BUT...HijackThis needs a safe folder to keep these critical backup logs and a temp folder is definitely not safe as you might run Disk Cleanup and delete them. Please place HJT into ITS OWN PERMANANT FOLDER. You can do this by going to My Computer (Windows key+e). Double click on C: If the folder is hidden, click on show the contents of this folder. Right-click on a blank space in the right column and select New > Folder Name it HJT (C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe Move HijackThis.exe into this folder. When you run HijackThis.exe from the C:\HJT folder and have it Fixed checked, it will create a backup file of modifications to use which are easily accessible if restoring any files is necessary. If needed, HijackThis Folder Tutorial and How to Download, Extract and Run HijackThis.Another way to do this is: Please download HijackThis Self-installer. This is the easiest way to install HijackThis to your computer This is a complete installer that installs Hijac... Read more

Hello,The current formatting of your log makes it difficult to read, so in notepad:On top, click Format >uncheck Word Wrap.I don't need a new log yet.. just perform the next steps in the right order and then post a new Hijackthislog as instructed.I see you have Viewpoint installed...Viewpoint Manager is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without users approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". Hello maniac610, and welcome to BleepingComputer. My name is Charles and I will be dealing with your log today. Please print off a copy of these instructions, and also save them to a Notepad file on your desktop, so they are easily accessible. We are going to boot into Safe Mode later in the fix, and there is no internet access. Please move HijackThis to a permanent folder. Anywhere is fine, other than your Desktop or a temporary folder. If it is in one of these locations, there is a risk that you may accidentally delete the backups; which may be needed if we fix something we're not meant to.If you use Windows XP it may be that you just double clicked on the HijackThis.exe file, but this only extracts the file to a temporary folder. If you right click on it and select Extract, you can choose a folder to place it in.How to make a permanent folder:Click Start | My Computer | Local Disk (C: ) | Program Files. In the menu bar at the top, go to File | New | Folder. That will create a folder named "New Folder", which you can rename to "HijackThis". You have now created C:\Program Files\HijackThis. Now get your HijackThis.exe file and place it in your folder. Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)Open the file and it will extract the contents (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop. Now, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. This is done by rebooting Windows and pressing F8 at boot/Windows startup, usually right after the beep. Then select S... Read more

A:Infected With Internet Explorer Security Plug In 2006

Hello there and welcome to BleepingComputer. My name is Charles and I will be dealing with your log today. Please print off a copy of these instructions, and also save them to a Notepad file on your desktop, so they are easily accessible. We are going to boot into Safe Mode later in the fix, and there is no internet access. You have Weatherbug installed. This is very much an ad-enabled application, which in addition to providing current outdoor temperature information in the System Tray together with real-time weather alerts, can also draw unwanted ads and popups to your computer. My recommendation is that you uninstall it from your computer. If you want a program which provides weather information, there is an ad-free alternative to Weatherbug called WeatherWatcher which is available free from here: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/weatherwatcher.html.I suggest you remove it from Add/Remove via the Control Panel. Then select Safe Mode from the list. Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again. Double-click smitfraudfix.cmd.Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files. You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the regi... Read more

OkI have a friend who has a new sony windowx XP service pack 2 computer, all singing all dancing. It has NIS 2006 installed, We have turned off scan outgoing emails ( as she is on a dail up connection ) and for the most part email still do not get sent, emails come in fine no probs, and some get out, but nt many.Check all the settings ( pop and smtp etc, and i can confirm that its correct ) , I notice when sending an email, Outlook Express does its usual thing and the graphics say connecting...sending etc, but then...i see what looks like norton doing a scan, BUT it is turned OFF for outgoing emails!!!.Outlook Express is set to hang up after sending/receiving , and notron is told not to scan outgoing and has the "hang-up" thing on ( to prevent outlook hanging up before norton has done its job i guess ) , But still most emails do not get out.How can you totally stop norton messing around with emails??

I have Nortons Internet Security 2006 and I Have Windows XP. Overall I Have no problems with Nortons it seems so be working fine I run scans with it once a week, but I have noticed every now and then maybe once or twice a month it starts doing a full scan all by Itself. The first couple of times I let it finish in case it had detected something (I was browsing the internet on my ISP's Homepage) but it didn't find anything. But it doesn't always happen when I am on the internet. I also have Ewido's and Spybots and I have done A Panda Scan they all come up with nothing. Is there a Automated setting within Norton's that I am Missing? Has anyone got any ideas?
Thank You

Norton does have its own automated scan, its not obvious with Security Suite 2006 like in previous versions, but it will run them,so its nothing to worry about!

To all N.I.S. 2006 users,

How many of you have had this problem ever since running Live Update and downloading and installing the latest program update (since 6/21/2007)?

Before going to bed Wednesday night, I ran Live Update. A program update was offered so I downloaded and installed it. Ever since then, I've been unable to connect to the World Wide Web using either IE or Firefox. I am unable to connect to AOL Instant Messenger as well. My STMP and POP mail connections seem to be unaffected, but when I view HTML formatted e-mails in Outlook, any images in the e-mail that most be downloaded from the web do not appear. However, if I disable Norton Internet security, I have no connection problems at all.

All this led be to believe that the problem is related to the latest Symantec update. My suspicions were reinforced Thursday evening when I got a call from my mother, who's PC is also running N.I.S. 2006, all upset about having the same problem after she ran Live Update and downloaded the same program update.

Dealing with Symantec tech-support was frustrating and fruitless, as these knuckleheads had no idea what I was talking about and asked me to do things that I knew were a useless waste of time. I e-mailed Symantec tech support telling them so, and that they are most likely responsible for the screw up and thus owe it to me and anyone else experiencing this problem to fix it immediately. They of course have yet to reply, nor has any fix yet been offered through... Read more

I have used Norton products for years. They provide good protection in my experience. However, I have always known that Norton Internet Security takes a lot of space and slows the computer - especially at startup. However, I have always felt safe with Norton since I am not an expert by any means in computer protection. Short of removing NIS 2006 and going with the stand alone approach for different types of protection, can I tweak my existing NIS to improve performance?

A:Tweaking Norton Internet Security 2006

Not to my knowledge. Having used Norton for many years as well, I finally saw the light and switched to Avast. But if your not ready to switch to the freeware replacements, then your pretty much stuck. The only small adjustment that can be made is to not have Norton boot up when your PC does. That only makes your PC start faster. Take it from me though.... my mom had NIS 2007 on her PC for a year. It used to take 10 minutes (we timed it), for her XP Pro computer to start. Now with her using AVG Free, it takes only 2 minutes.

Good luck!

Does anyone have any experience or knowledge about ease of upgrading from NIS 2006 to NIS 2009. The upgrade is part of my license. Wasn't sure about any problems in skipping versions. Thanks much for your help!

A:Norton Internet Security 2009 from 2006

From what I hear, 2009 is pared down significantly and offers vastly improved performance over other recent versions. Because of that, I would have the upgrade downloaded or ready in whatever digital form its in along with all the license info you need, and download and have the Norton Removal Tool ready.

Then go offline and uninstall NIS2006 using the Norton Removal Tool, rebooting as needed. Then install NIS2009 and activate it and then come back online.

If the NIS 2009 installation performs some or all of those functions automatically then those manual steps aren't needed but I've no information about how well NIS 2009 upgrades itself versus a clean install.

A:Problem with 2006 norton internet security

Hi Larryosee..

Not quite sure where you went wrong exactly as it seems a bit weird at the least but nothing surprises me at all when it comes to Norton products...they have a notorious bad name when it comes to ability and what they do to your PC.

Have you tried uninstalling, then reinstalling (may help removing all the folders and files in between i.e Live Update etc).

If that doesn't help, try a system restore or restore an earlier image (if you have one backed up).

Hope you get it sorted...

Can personally recommend NOD32 Anti-Virus system and Sygate Personal Firewall Pro if it helps (the latter has recently been bought by Symantec but it's still the same software and works 10 times better than the regular Norton Firewall) :-)

A:PC-Cillin Internet Security 2006 shuts down IE

Hi brendeau,

Welcome to TSG!

I use PC-cillin IS 2006 with both Firefox and IE when necessary to get Windows Updates. This sounds like you should either create a firewall rule or allow IE to access the Internet when prompted.

If you are using another firewall other than that provided by PC-cillin IS 2006, you will have to shut it down. Right-click on the PC-cillin system tray icon and select Open Main Console, then select Network Security from the left-hand panel. If Personal Firewall in the Network Security window is grayed out, then the problem is that your are running another firewall. I had this problem and had to unistall ZoneAlarm Free completely. When you are able to access the Personal Firewall (i.e. not grayed out), you should be able to do the following:
check the box to: Protect computer from Internet attacks, then select one of the four profiles that best fits your computer. For example, I have a 56k dialup and choose direct connection. Once you have set your profile then double-click the one you have selected in the Manage profiles sub-window. Click on the Exceptions tab and if there is no rule for Internet Explorer, then click on the Add button to create one:
Description: Internet Explorer
Target: Specified application
Browse to C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE
Connection: Outgoing
Action: Allow

This feature does not appear to have been carried over into the latest (2006) version. Is this correct or am I missing something. I can't even find any reference to this in the current user guide. I recently applied the latest NIS update patch with LiveUpdate... and now my NIS scanner can no longer count the number of files being scanned. It always displays 0 files scanned despite that I can see it's scanning and working.

This is the second time LiveUpdate screwed up my NIS. Last time the patch made my NIS freeze up Windows every time I try to modify the firewall rule.

Can anyone give me some suggestions to fix this problem? The tech support from Symantec isn't very helpful at all. They told me to do same thing when I asked them last time. Do a clean boot and check possible conflicts. But in fact that really isn't the problem at all. The problem was caused by the corrupted NIS setting made by the update patch. I had to default all NIS settings to make everything go back to normal.

I really don't want to reinstall NIS for stupid things like this.

Recently, I worked on a PC on which I had installed SS 5.0, commerical version, and Zone Alarm Internet Security 2006. I had turned off ZAIS' antispyware feature.

Also, Windows Media Player would not play any media.

About 3 weeks after installing the software, OE hung when opened.
Event viewer information:
Faulting application msimn.exe, version 6.0.2900.2180, faulting module comctl32.dll, version 6.0.2900.2180, fault address 0x000752b8.

Clean boot troubleshooting pointed me to SS & ZAIS as the culprits.

ZA recommended a clean uninstall; then download the latest program & re-install.
See this page for specific steps. I had to boot to safe mode to manually delete "internet logs".

In case you need a more thorough uninstall, here are many manual steps.

I offer this post as a recommendation of the tech support provided by Zone Alarm & as a tip in the event that anyone else encounters this problem.

I don't have any Norton/Symantec products so I have no personal experience of your problem. Having said that, three thoughts occur to me;

1. How long have you had the computer?. You might have a trial version of NIS that has now expired. If so, you would need to pay a subscription or uninstall it and choose an alternative product,

2. Did you try the Automated Support Assistant at the Symantec site (assuming you have the patience!). Does your error message include a number?

3. As you don't have the program CD, you can download a pdf version of the User Guide from here and that might help; http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...88256ae7006a3054?OpenDocument&src=bar_sch_nam

For the last year, we had Norton Internet Security 2005 on our PC (Windows XP Service Pack 2). No problems. About three weeks ago, we purchased Norton Internet Security 2006 (NIS 2006) on CD-ROM and installed it on our PC. No problems. A few days ago, NIS 2006 would no longer work. The only thing that might of contributed to this was a zip file that was opened from a piece of junk mail that contained a simple image (NTIMAGE.GIF). NIS didn't see it as a threat and as far as we can tell, everything on the PC is working fine except NIS 2006. I tried to uninstall NIS 2006 with "Add or Remove Programs" in the Control Panel and was unsuccessful. Then I went to Symantec's web site, downloaded SymNRT, SYMMISICLEANUP, and MSIFIX which seemed to have removed NIS 2006. I then attempted to reinstall NIS 2006 from the CD. After several minutes of the files being transfered from the CD to the hard drive, a message stated that the install was successful, to remove the CD and to reboot the computer for the changes to take effect. So far, so good. PC reboots and the Norton Configuration Wizard automatically starts for the final steps. I clicked the next button after the introduction window for the activation of NIS. At this point, I have problems. The wizard locks up and does not allow me to finish / activate NIS 2006. I have tried several times to uninstall and install NIS 2006, and the result is always the same. I'm not sure if there is some sort of corruption withi... Read more

I recently installed Norton Internet Security 2006 on my Windows XP home edition SP2 operating system using Internet Explorer 6 SP2 browser. Immediately after installation all operations/tasks began running very slow to the point of hanging up seconds at a time. It doesn't matter whether I'm trying to print, browse or open another program. Before this security installation I had Norton Anti Virus and Norton spyware software but they both expired and would not automatically renew. The sales person I spoke to at Best Buy where I bought the new security software agreed I needed to uninstall the anti virus and spyware programs which is what I did before installing the new. I did not have the slow running problem with the old programs. I'm beginning to think there is now too much security on this thing.....my ISP, Windows, IE all have it and now the Norton programs. It's like they're all interfering with each other. This slowness is very annoying.....I've just about decided to uninstall the Norton programs. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.......silverlady1145

I've got a Windows XP Pro setup with all updates installed. Just upgraded to NIS 2006 from NIS 2004. It's pre-install virus scan was successful as was the installation. Only issue is that full system scan by NAV causes the computer to crash leaving no evidence in the NAV log or event viewer. No help so far from Symantec Knowledgebase nor reply from its Tech Support. Program appears to be running OK in all other respects including virus scanning of e-mail, etc. I plan to run Symantec's virus scan from its website plus its website diagnostic routine but curious if anyone has suggestions.

i want chang my internet security please help me

now bitdefender 2016 but very heavy

A:Kaspersky 2016 Vs Eset Smart Security 9 Vs Emsisoft internet Security 11 Vs Avira intent Security

If you come from Bitdefender then I would recommend you KIS2016, quite light; very effective. ESET is also a good option, Emsisoft same stuff. If you like smooth and less interactive protection ESET and Kaspersky would be better, Emsisoft is cool but a bit more interactive IMO.

I wonder what kind of settings can be put on this or the features that can be disabled to keep it running smoothly.

I keep installing and uninstalling this software. It slows my web browsing, makes firefox almost unusable.

My setup is a i5 6 GB laptop.

I bought 3 licenses for kis total 2016 during this march. It seems like all will go to waste lol.

I got 2 unused licenses for total security. If anybody is interested in trading for another security product, let me know. I can provide you with the purchase screenshot or proof.

I'm running NIS 2006 AntiSpyware edition on XP Home Service Pack 2 along with SpywareBlaster and ie-spyad. Should I also install MAS and would it conflict with NIS?

A:Microsoft Antispyware & Norton Internet Security 2006 Antispyware Edition Compatibility?

You can install it for scanning purposes but don't use the real time protection. In other words, don't have it run when your computer starts up. This will likely cause conflicts with NIS.

I am using Internet Explorer 11 from Program Files folder which supposedly launches 64 bit applications. This Internet Explorer 11 settings from Tools Options of Custom Level and Advanced tabs Security features were if selected; Internet Explorer
11 64 bit simply refuses to load websites with host of other truly funny messages like US DOD official website found 'Not Secure' or Microsoft's own msftconnect.com 'This website is not secure' etc., with other websites like default Internet Explorer 11 webpage
doesn't loads fast enough even though all options favours fast loading with Advanced security features; WHY? this ultimately stops after all settings are set to default without single modification in Custom Settings or Advance Security features.
This coupled with Microsoft Edge's unpredictable website loading with frequent Network's internet connection disconnecting to the brink of unusability; nothing; even Microsoft Edge Reset won't resolve these scenarios.
And now Microsoft Edge DEV; with all above said problems and beta version errings uses 1.5 GB of 4G ISP full speed memory to send computer information to Microsoft within half day of 12 hrs. day, rest of day goes with crawling speed of ISP setted 64 Kbps
in short without internet connection; this happening on all days Microsoft Edge DEV use; now a days I use only Internet Explorer 11 64 bit strictly with Default Level & Advance Security features Resetted instead of selecting app... Read more
