Solved: stuck on cmos utility setup

Q: Solved: stuck on cmos utility setup

Hi, I'm stuck on the com utility setup screen. I haven't changed ant drives or made any other changes. I rebooted and it popped up no error messages. PLEASE HELP!!!!

Preferred Solution: Solved: stuck on cmos utility setup

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

my Asus laptop froze and when I restarted it, a screen that said ?Aptio Setup Utility? popped up. I googled it and tried what everyone was recommending:
Select the Boot menu in the Aptio setup utility, select 'Launch CSM' and change to enable

Select the Security menu n the Aptio setup utility, select 'Secure Boot Control' and change to disable

Select Save & Exit and press 'yes'

Hold down the power button until the unit switches power off completely

Switch back on and continually press the F9 button for about ten seconds; this should now allow the unit to boot up into the Windows Recovery menu

Select 'Advanced Start Up' and wait until the recovery menu appears

Select ' Advanced Options'

Select 'System Restore' and select a date prior to when the problem occurred?.

The only problem is that once I switch the computer back on and try to press F9, it does nothing. I get a black screen that says ?Reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key? I can get back into the Aptio Utility screen from here but I can?t get into my computer. How can I fix this and get back in???? I don?t know much about computers so I?m totally stuck and I NEED what?s on there for business.

I have an Asus laptop and I got the notification that I can upgrade to Windows 10 if I wanted to. So, I clicked to update it and it did and when I restarted it, my mouse pad would not work. I was able to go into programs and click repair for the mouse and then it worked. I used my laptop for a few minutes and everything was fine and then I closed it and set it aside. Later that day, I opened it and I clicked on Chrome and I got the hour glass. I waited for a few minutes and nothing happened. So, I pressed and held the power button down to turn it off and turned it back on a few seconds later.
When I turned it back on I was at the Aptio Setup Utility screen and no matter what I pushed, I couldn't exit. My battery died and so I plugged it in and turned it back on. This time it said that it was being diagnosed. After a long while, it said they couldn't fix it and gave me the option of restarting it or advanced options. I clicked advanced options and chose to go back to Windows 8.1 hoping that it would return to normal. After that, I assumed it was doing that and I left it to make lunch for my son. When I came back to it and it had been awhile it was just a blue screen and was like that for a long time, so I again shut it down.

I went online and did a search and someone said to enable the launch CSM on the boot section and to disable the secure boot menu and then to restart and I would be able to get to the advanced options/recovery screen. So, I did do that and was ab... Read more

I'm sorry if I'm posting in the wrong form. I have a ASUS G75VX I was just finished cleaning my fan filter and went to turn my computer back on when the blue and grey Aptio Setup Utility popped up. I've did everything I could and nothing is working. I tried the Boot, Launch CSM changed disable to enable, Security, Secure Boot Control changed enabled to disabled and F10 to save and exit. It took me to a screen saying "Reboot and Select proper boot device or insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key" I don't know what that means. Can someone please help?

You might have knocked loose the cables for the hard drive. It is saying it has nothing to boot from and since you were messing around inside it sounds like you may have knocked something loose.

I have a Dell Inspiron 5000 series laptop that keeps getting stuck in the Aptio utility loop and BIOS stuff and doesn?t allow me to load Windows 10 successfully. The other day my PC randomly had a blue screen of death and crashed and now it?s preventing me from getting back to my OS ever since. Sometimes upon booting it loads a PCI white screen saying ?Hard drive not installed.?

I ran the ePSA diagnostics to check and scan the system, but it only keeps saying it finished the tests with a yellow caution sign next to my hard drive. Is there anything I can do to get a successful boot? I just don?t want to lose everything I was working on.

When I boot the 'plutor it runs through the black screen then stops -
I then have to press F1 to continue the boot. Get message " please be resetting CPU frequency in CMOS set up. press F1 to continue. System now in safe mode". or similar!

I was told that this could be the CMOS battery simply needs changing but I am not so sure. Before I start pulling things apart is there any advice - ?
Machine runs fine it is just a pain sometimes as when I power it up I have to stay with it and wait for the prompt to press F1.

Any simple fix? If not I will put up with it.

Thank you

A:Solved: Reset CPU frequency in CMOS setup

Replace the battery. It will cost something like 1-2 quid, and is just a simple operation of pulling the battery out, going to some store, showing it and saying that you need a new one, then putting the new one in.

I just built a new machine, had it running about a week. SPecs are:
mobo: XFX nForce 680i LT SLI, Intel Q6600 Quad Core 2.4 Ghz
Video card: XFX GeForce 8600GT XXX, Ultra SLI ready 600 Watt PSu
OCZ SLI Ready RAM, 2 GB dual channel 800mhz, 160 GB West. Dig. SATA hdd
DVD burner, NO floppy drive. Occasionally when it started the mouse wasn't working but it was ok after a re-boot. THE problem:
TOday I added a second identical videocard and configured the SLI setup. ALso added another 2 GB identical RAM, only 2.5 showed up but computer was working, WIndows loaded. THEN I restarted and entered BIOS (dumb thing to do I know!) In the BIOS I noticed it said "SLI ready RAM disabled" I tried changing a setting and when I rebooted I got a "CMOS checksum error, Defaults loaded. Press F1 to continue or Del to enter setup. Neither action produces any results, had to power off. Removing/replacing the CMOS battery did nothing either. AM I stuck with a shiny new $1500 paperweight?

A:Solved: CMOS checksum error, can't access setup

Pulling the battery out often does not reset cmos. Try this method.
1 Unplug the power cord from the pw supply.
2 Now push the on button 2-3 times. This removes any residual charge from the pw supply caps.
3 Open the case and clear cmos with the clear jumper for a min of 30 seconds.
4 Put jumper back to where it is supposed to be, replace pw cord and power on system. Enter the bios and load defaults, save settings and restart.

If that does not work, pull out the second video card and repeat the clear procedure.

Trying to fix son's girlfriend's Dell Dimension 4600. We think the hard drive is bad. Put it in a sleeve and hooked it to another computer ... shows no files. So she bought a new WD 160GB hard drive. Installed the new hd after connecting it to another computer and using Disk Management to format it. Then installed it in the Dell 4600. When we start the computer it shows:

Dell System Dimension 4600 Series
BIOS Version A02

Performing Automatic IDE Configuration ...
Secondary Master: CD ROM Device
Secondary Slave: CD ROM Device

Strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for Setup Utility

F1 does nothing but repeat prior line.
F2 brings up the BIOS settings.

Boot sequence only shows:
Diskette Drive

no new HD listed.

I also cannot get it to boot from Windows XP disk even after I change the boot sequence to IDE CD ROM Drive in the first position. Although, yesterday it did attempt to load XP, but ended at a BSOD - Unmountable_boot_volume.

Help. What should my next step be?

I am trying to resurrect an old computer of mind-1995. The computer has a 686 AMIBIOS A039171 (1995) CMOS chips.
When the computer boots-up it displays “CMOS battery voltage is low”. It is trying to boot-up from the A drive. I do not have an A drive. I tried to change the CMOS setup to boot from C drive but each time I check the CMOS setting it is set to boot-up from the A drive.
The computer has an ATC=6000 motherboard. There is not a battery on this board- in fact there is not a place for a battery?
What are the implications of not having a battery? Can the 686 AMIBIOS A039171 work without a battery?
Are there any suggestions you can pass on?

A:CMOS settings wrong F1 to run setup

Does it happen to say anything more specific? Like which CMOS setting is wrong? Some computer complain even when you change the peripherals like remove a PS/2 mouse.

What if you actually press F1, load the defaults in there and save the settings? There may be several kinds of defaults you can load.

If it still keeps forgetting the settings even after replacing the battery (with a new one I hope (and the new battery is the right type and is making contact)), then it may be the motherboard that has gone bad. Not much you can do about that.

Maybe try updating the system BIOS in the very unlikely case that it is some BIOS glitch that corrupts the settings..

Hey guys,

I've had a problem that my monitor didn't turn on when i turned on the

After trying another graphics card, relocating and cleaning all the slots
and the whole computer from the inside, nothing helped.

I was told to try to clear the CMOS with the jumper on the mother
board and relocating the jumper to where it was after 20 seconds.
(i didn't turn on the computer when the jumper was in the clear position).

Now the monitor lights up and gives me one beep and after a few
seconds of running things up it says that i need to reconfigure the CPU setting in the CMOS.

So i press DEL to enter the BIOS setup and after a few seconds in the blue screen of the bios, everything freezes.
Worst is that it now gets stuck even before i enter the BIOS and i see the first screen that lights up
when i turn on the computer but with
weird pixel chips on the screen and half letters thrown around the screen.

Im running a 3ghz intel pentium 4 with a gigabyte mother board (i can
check the model if its important).

What could it be?

We may be able to find directions to reset your cmos to factory default.
(Or... you could google for a manual for your mb.)
On some mb's removing the battery is the best way.
On others, there are a couple of pins on which you can place a jumper.

The screen is shot on this machine --I have a USB to VGA adapter, but can't get it to activate.  Because I have no screen I can't go through the typical Driver install .... is there a way to force the system to boot to the USB Display adaptor? thx in advance!

A:Booting/CMOS Setup using external USB Display Adapter

Hi there @DMillerassociat, Welcome back to the HP Support Forums! I understand that you are looking for a way to use a display connected using a USB display adapter as your boot display.  I am happy to give you a hand with this. I do not believe that this is currently possible, for several reasons. First the system BIOS would need the ability to recognize the USB port connection as a standard video connection. You would almost certainly need to either disable or disconnect your existing built in display, and you would also need the drivers that make a USB video adapter  work installed.  If the BIOS does not recognize the device as a valid video device  inherently you will never get a display, when you need to get into the BIOS setup. I hope this makes sense, and if it does answer your question, please mark this post as a solution. Kudos would also be appreciated.

A:insydeH20 setup utility

Sorry to hear you are having problems, there are a couple things we can try:
Enter the BIOS and restore defaults to make sure there wasn't something changed accidentally.
Attempt a start up repair on your system to see if that resolves the issue.
Attempt a system restore to before you started having this problem.
Perform a refresh to try and repair the Windows operating system files, some programs may be lost with that function, which was why I listed it last.

Hi: Why do you need to change the setting to IDE? A BIOS update won't add that feature anyway. If you are trying to reinstall XP and get the blue screen stop error, simply add the SATA AHCI drivers. See this guide below.  Read the Intel section and then read the downloadable document for how to slipstream all of the sata drivers. http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/SATA-drivers-for-XP-solution-on-... I have zipped up and attached the drivers you need to slipstream below...
