Q: editing registry now mouse and keyboard are not working

Hi, my Fujitsu Siemens crashed and I had a new "old" driver installed. All af a sudden my CD/DVD drive diissapeared. The light on the cd slot that opens doesn/t light up anymore. I tried to fix the problem and erase the registry-key HKEY-LOCALMACHINE>System>CurrentControLset>Control>Class>{4D36E96F-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}>uPPERfILTERS.
I went to regedit and erased Every Upperfulter under this number I could get. Could not find the lower filters they spoke of. After rebooting, the mouse and keybord are not working. I cannot log in in Safe mode. I tried the dubble click of the tab key. Tried the Ctrl/Alt and delete key. Nothing. I need help. Also, after reinstalling the new driver, my computer kept on giving me a blue screen saying windows detect a problem and needs to start over. I cannot use a cd, because the cd rom doesn't open and there is no response even after opening the rom manually and inserting a cd. Please help. I am useing my husbands laptop to post these questions

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Unless someone knows what they are doing changing anything in a registry isnt really a good idea as it can cause a lot more problems then solve them.If the registry is damaged enough by cleaners etc, the only thing left to do is do a repair or a reinstall. It might be that the cd/dvd drive is toast and needs replaced and altering the registry isnt going to fix that. When you said the computer crashed im going to assume that another harddrive was installed.Changing harddrives isnt going to make a cd/dvd drive disappear that i know of unless the driver for the cd player was deleted somehow by accident.

Wrong registry filter delted, mouse and keyboard not working. I need help. At first, my problem was that my netbook cannot detect my USB/Broadband flashdrive due to error 39. I back-up the registry and saved it at my desktop. I followed the instruction through the internet and my netbook succefully detected it.

However, now, I think I deleted other key filters that my mouse and keyboard doesn't work when I'm in windows XP. It only works at the beginning where I can choose F8 and either restore system or whatever. Please let me know what to do on this kind of situations...

Dose anybody have any idea what registry keys are associated with the mouse or keyboard, or how i might find this out. I'm pulling a prank on my friend, he's always paranoid about his computer, so i though i might mess with him abit by disabling his mouse or key board by modding or deleting these certain registry keys.
(not permanently obviously, its just a joke, ill restore the registry when I've had my share of laughs)

A:What registry keys are associated with the mouse and keyboard?

Hi and welcome to TSG.
Id be interested in your definition of friend.
Altering the registry on ones own system is risky unless you know what you are doing.
But on a friends system..maybe a joke too far.

Hello, I did something dumb. My computer wouldn't read my diskdrive, and I found were I can delete a registry key to make it work. But while in there I think I also accidentally deleted another registry key. When I restarted my computer neither my keyboard or mouse will work. I have no way to get into my computer to fix the problem. If I put in my XP CD (if I can find it) won't I have to click on something to fix the problem? How can I do that when I have no input device. Secondly, I think it works, but haven't been able to check if my first fix to fix the missing D drive worked, so I may not have a disk drive on my puter anyway, and I don't have a floppy disk drive either. I do have a memory stick. I'm a mess and I have a game to play! So, can I fix this, or should I put my tail between my legs and run to my nearest PC fix it guy.

Happy Thanksgiving also.

Hi

Before we do anything, does the keyboard work enough to get you into the BIOS, if so then before windows XP boots to the splash screen, just after the post screen, hold down F8 to go into the startup actions screen and choose "last known good config" and see if that works, if not try "safe mode"

Or

A:Mouse scroll and keyboard stop working until left click of mouse

Hello mpmckee,

First run Antivirus, Malware, and Spyware scans. Remove anything the programs find.

Note: if you need some suggestions on which tools to use, let me know.

Afterwards, test functionally of mouse and keyboard.

If no change, run System Restore, choose a Restore point before the issue started.

Again test behavior of mouse and keyboard.

If the issue has been resolved, go ahead and reinstall windows Updates.

I made a stupid mistake and now I'm eating it.

My computer wasn't recognizing my CD-RW drive, so I opened up 'regedit' to delete the upper and lower filters from the drive. Well, I deleted the wrong filters. The next time Windows loaded up, it failed to recognize the mouse and the keyboard (!!!). So I basically have a paralyzed computer - I can't do anything with it. I know that reinstalling Windows would solve the problem, but I'm looking for a way to take care of this without losing all of my files. I know it's possible - I've been on the phone with a few different tech places. They all tell me it's too complicated to do over the phone, bring it in and they'll have it taken care of. They're running a business so I know why they're really telling me that.

Plain and simple, I would love to take it somewhere and have somebody else do it, but I don't have anything to pay them with. So I've got to figure out a way to break my computer out its mouse\keyboard coma.

Any help would appreciated.

I had VMware workstation 8 on my Vista, It had a small problem with one of my machines and therefor I uninstalled 8 version and I tried to reinstall 7 version again.
but it gave me an error "a previous version is installed on this machine" .
I tried solutions of vmware forums but they were not work.
I tried to resolve the error by deleting every vmware related file on my vista. but nothing changed.
after those I guessed the problem may be from the registry keys of vmware and therefor I searched in the registry editor and deleted every vmware related keys!!!

and unfortunately now, neither my keyboard works nor mouse touch pad.
unfortunately my restore points become deleted automatically(I dont know why) and I don't have any restore point to go back.
and the Recent good configuration in boot menu of Vista doesn't changed anything.

How do I reactivate these kinds of features from the control panel?

don't worry, I have administrative rights, Im in the proccess of removing malware and what not, and this must have been turned off at some point.
I have a number of programs already installed and it might be them.
I think I removed a registration cleaner, but I could be wrong I'll try and clean that out for sure.

Before this round of trouble I discovered a problem with one of my graphics cards when they were in SLI with Blue screens and other nasty little things occuring when running Windows; I removed my secondary graphics card from the system to see if I could get a more stable OS, which I did.

I decided to test to see if the other graphics card running on it's own would lead to a stable system, however I was getting zeros on the VGA BIOS bootup screen and other problems before I even reached Windows Vista.

I did sucessfully boot into Vista and enter my password (using the keyboard) and move the mouse around, however once I had logged into my profile Vista began asking me if I wanted to install the drivers for the keyboard and mouse, I selected to update from the Internet and when Vista did not find any drivers for either device it disabled them.
Eventually I got both the keyboard and mouse functioning again by reinstalling Intellipoint pro and the Logitech setpoint.

While using the second graphics card I noted some distortions such as zeros appearing on the VGA BIOS screen during boot up, so I decided to switch out the graphics cards again, again this caused Vista to forget about my keyboard and mouse, I am however able to get onto Vista a combination of a cheap usb mouse I had laying around and the Vista on screen keyboard.

The fix I used previously (reinstalling of Intellipoint and Setpoint) has not works,I have also attempted to manually install the drivers through dev... Read more

Hey everyone,

I've tried a few forums and received no help so I'm hoping I've found my place..

I have a Logitech G11 keyboard and a Logitech G5 mouse. Both are USB. They worked fine up until about 3 weeks ago. Both the mouse and keyboard work perfectly fine during BIOS. I can run the setup commands and all that jazz fine. However, once windows boots (I'm running on Windows 7 Home) neither work. The lights on both aren't on and there is no response.

I've thought about the possibility of it being the USB ports but it is not, the keyboard and mouse work fine in other PCs, it detects my external harddrive when I plug it in, and USB keyboards and mice are equally unresponsive once windows is booted. Any help would be greatly appreciated...

PS, if it is a driver problem, how am I supposed to get new drivers without a working mouse or keyboard? This is an aggravating problem because I've replaced every piece of hardware inside my case in the last 6 months except my video card, and some small problem like this always seems to keep my machine from working at all.

Once the computer loads up the mouse will work long enough to click on start and control panel. Then it will stop working.

I downloaded the drivers from the MB website and it will not let me install the drivers due to the drivers xp has is newer than those that i downloaded.

I uninstalled SP 3 to see if that was the problem and it still did not work. I reinstalled SP 2 and that did not help the problem either. I still cannot load the drivers from the manufactors website. When i try to uninstal the device and reboot windows the new driver is automaticly installed. The onoy other option i have not tried is formating the HDD and reinstalling windows. However that is not an option due to no money.

My brother's and my pc have both come down with the same bizarre issue. Keyboard and mouse stop responding once windows boots. Our keyboards are both backlit, so I can see that they both shut off once windows logs in. Tried different periferals, different ports so it's definitely not a hardware issue. The only common software on both PC's are our antivirus, office 365 and two gaming clients. Assuming the antivirus is to blame, I don't know how to uninstall without using the mouse and keyboard. Trying to uninstall by the recovery command prompt bit can't figure it out. Don't really want to wipe both PC's. thanks guys.

Okay so this is my wifes computer, its an old, Dell dimension 2400.

Okay, so the problem started with the USB drives not working properly... they would not recognize any new hardware, but still recognized things that had already been installed, and would work them just fine.

she tried to use microsofts website to solve the problem, but to use the "fix it for me" option, she had to download and instal the .net framework 2 or higher, so she installed 4 because it was the newest.

after she restarted her computer, her computer no longer recognized her PS/2 keyboard or mouse.

however, on start up, it will recognize the keyboard, because you can hit F2, F8 and F12 to go to the different menus, and use the keyboard just fine.
I have no clue what the problem is... but does anyone have anyide of how to fix it? not much you can do when the keyboard and mouse don't work.

thanks :3

also, any sugestions on how to fix the USB problem after the keyboard/mouse problem would be appreciated ^.^

A:PS/2 Keyboard and Mouse not working.

dells are hell for this issue, press delete or watch for the quick flash up on post saying something like press f12 for boot up configurations or bios
anyhow get to bios eventually, look for usb and keyboard support make sure its enabled

after go to dells utility which all dells have usually press f10 on start up to access full range of tools , there are usb port checks available there

if you end up back at square one with no improvmnet, go to device manager start run type devmgmt.msc check no red Xs in there or yellows

if that is ok then possible reinstallation required and/or your mobo is faulty (very common on dells)

I am having problems with a PS/2 keyboard and mouse not working. I can get them to work through a USB to PS/2 adapter but it doesn't work until Windows (XP) boots, so I can't get into the BIOS and I can't boot from CD.
It seems the PS/2 ports are fried, but using USB is only OK once Windows is up and running.
If I clear CMOS I can access the BIOS once but after changing to 'boot from CD' and 'save and exit' the keyboard stops working and I can't 'press any key to boot from CD'. Once the Windows screen comes up the mouse/keyboard works again. The motherboard is Abit KV-85 and I want to reinstall Windows after a bad virus attack.
Is there something in BIOS I have missed that will enable this USB mouse/keyboard to work?

BUT the ps2 mouse and keyboard would not respond, and the capslock light would flash repeatedly. Also tried USB mouse and keyboard on all usb ports with the exact same result.

After a lot of research, it appeared it could be either the motherboard, so a new Asrock P4i65g was purchased and installed - but the problem remained. So more research, and a new power supply was installed ... but hte problem still remains.

Please help - this is my retired parents pc, we've spent 80 already and who knows how many hours trying to resove this problem.

I unplogged my computer and then plugged it again. didn't solve my problem.
I tried restoring and repairing. (by F8) but it didn't work.
I tried using different keyboard and mouses. but they don't work either.
I tried using PS/2 but it doesn't work either.
PS: when i try to boot, sth comes up as deamon tools update. which is normal & has always been there. but do u think it may be related?!

my keyboard: Razer Blackwidow Ultimate 2013

My mouse: Razer naga Moltencore mouse

my motherboard: AsRock

Did you try "system restore" from advanced boot options? Or is F8 not working? What happens if you go back in time, so driver is rollbacked. Mouse and keyboard work in recovery environment?

I built a computer about 3 months ago and began having a temperature problem, I opened up the case and found that the plastic bkt on the motherboard that holds the heatsink down, had a broken tab... i took the motherboard out, took of the bkt, fixed it and put everything back together. My problem now is that when i boot up the computer, it will boot up to windows, but my mouse and keyboard are dead. Ive tried unplugging everything, just plugging one or the other in but no luck. Anybody have any suggestions?

Hello all.
I've just Windows 8 on my desktop, Installation went g them perfectly and i was using the system for a few hours with no problems. I reset the machine after installing a few drivers and when the machine booted back up. The keyboard and mouse stopped working completely, I've tried pluging them into other USB ports with no success.
I haven't installed any updates to Windows 8 and i haven't connected the system to the internet. The keyboard and mouse stop working on the Windows 8 Choose OS screen
I have other OS's installed on the same machine and the keyboard and mouse are still working.

Drivers I installed before i rebooted.

Intel chipset drivers (I think it's this, I'm not sure if the USB ports are working at all)
Firewire Audio interface (M-Audio Project Mix IO)
Graphics card XFX Radeon HD 4800 XXX
Logitech setpoint for my Performance MX Mouse
XBOX 360 Wireless receiver

My motherboard is an Asus PST SE with an i7 920 CPU
Keyboards Generic HP USB keyboard and Apple USB Keyboard with Number Pad.

Thanks in advance!

So 2 or so years ago one of my computers pooped out on me. If I am remembering correctly at first i got the google re-direct virus but eventually my mouse and keyboard stopped working entirely. They we're wireless, I gave them new batteries and still nothing. I even tried borrowing from my parents to see if it was just the wireless itself thru usb and still nothing. I remember downloading Norton Antivirus (yes, illegally-gasp, and a dumb move I know) just before it all happened (mouse/keyboard issues) so I'm not sure if thats what caused it and I honestly don't remember what all I did at that point to try and fix it. I'm guessing I d/l Norton to try and get rid of the virus but I think it made things worse and maybe it had a virus too? I think I tried setting the date back after the google issue...? At any rate my parents got me a new computer so I just stopped worrying about it but I'd like to get old pictures and videos off of my old one and tried again today to no avail. I tried with my new keyboard and mouse which are usb and nothing. It immediately takes me to the blue screen chkdsk thing and runs through the 5 steps. B/c the keyboard doesn't work I can't just bypass it but it never fully finishes the 5 steps. It gets to the 5th and doesn't get past 0 percent even after waiting 3 hours. Any idea what is wrong and how I could fix it? A lil help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

This would mean there is a problem with the HDD if it can't finish Check Disk. You can remove the HDD from the computer and attach it internally to a desktop computer, Via a USB Adapter or put it in USB Enclosure. If you can access the drive, be sure to do a thorough Anti-Virus scan on the drive before copying any files to the new computer or you will infect that computer too.

I have the same thing as Tinyman...no keyboard or mouse by attempting to add safe mode with networking. What is UEFI?
Where do I find this USB viewable option as I am connected by USB?

I went to set up (F2 at boot) > and then searched around for anything that relates to USB and found that USB is enabled and on high speed. Hope that is not it and I am missing something, because I still have no mouse or keyboard.

Keyboard and mouse are the ones that came with the Dell XPS 7100 system.

I'll try different USB ports and report back...didn't make a difference.
What am I missing? (except for my mouse and keyboard...lol)

Hello Rich,

The tutorial below can help show you how to boot to your UEFI firmware settings to check to see if you have the mouse and keyboard enabled at boot.

Once I get to my desktop I cannot use my keyboard, touchpad, or a mouse. So my computer is totally useless. I want to try a system restore but can't. I've tried starting in safe mode and it does the same thing. I pushed F12 to enter boot mode and I tested my mouse, keyboard, and system. They all checked out ok. The keyboard and mouse even operated in this mode but once I exited to the desktop they quit. (My CD also said it tested fine but I know this isn't true since it hasn't for sometime and I think I just need to repair the driver for it.)

Please any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Hi cbspon,See if any of these things will help you further:Go into the BIOS by hitting the Del key during bootup. Click down to PnP/PCI and hit enter. Then check if the "Resources controlled by" is set to Auto. If not, set it to Auto. Then "Esc" back to the previous menu and select "User Password". See if it is set or disabled or requires an entry. Are you using a ps/2 mouse/keyboard or usb? Does the alternative work?If the above doesn't help, you may wish to replace or refresh the CMOS battery. This step can involve losing all your settings, so you may wish to read more about this step before taking it. For laptops this is not as straightforward as for towers and desktops. Hi,

While trying to correct a CD/DVDRW drive fault, I have deleted Upper/lower filters in the registry editor which means now there is absolutely no response from the keyboard/mouse. Because of this I cant obviously perform a system restore and I have repeatedly tried restoring to a good configuration point with no results.
My OS is Windows XP home edition and the computer itself is an Acer Aspire T120E.
Any help is greatly appreciated as I have a 3D building model which I have spent a fortnight creating which is due soon for a college project and I cant access it! oops! lol

A:Keyboard/Mouse not working in OS

Oops! - sounds like you deleted the wrong filter references!

All I can suggest you try now is a "Repair Install" using the Windows XP CD (borrow one if you don't have one, but it must be the same version with same service pack):

My desktop PC has been playing up lately and refuses to hibernate however I only mention that in passing in case it has anything to do with my bigger problem which is that neither the keyboard or mouse will work although they both work if I plug them into the USB port on my laptop which I am now using. I have tried three different mice on the desktop including a PS/2 mouse but none seem to work either in Windows or prior to Windows being installed and hence I cannot boot into the BIOS page or attempt to fix this problem by booting to a Windows recovery disc (press any key to boot to CD) and I am stuck at the Windows log into accounts page with no hope of getting any further. For the record I can access files on the computer from this laptop which is on the same network so there doesn't seem to be anything else wrong with the desktop PC. Any suggestions gratefully appreciated as I am running out of ideas and patience!!

HELP! My computer is not recognizing my mouse or keyboard. I have read lot of forums that say to access the bios. But I can't access the bios when my keyboard is not working. My mouse and keyboard work on my other computer. So I believe it is something with my computer. This is the 4th time in 2 years (i've always taken it to computer nerdz) but this time I want to fix it myself. What should I do???

A:Keyboard and Mouse not working

Ok, so the obvious question is are you plugging in the front or back of your PC?
Have you tried both (as the back usb are directly off your motherboard where as the front are attached to your case)?
Ooooh, only just realised you didnt state if they ARE usb or ps2 connections, this makes a BIG difference?!?
