Practicing Share Point 2003 on XP Pro Laptop

Q: Practicing Share Point 2003 on XP Pro Laptop

I am using a training package from Mindleaders to learn how to setup and run Share Point 2003. I'd like to setup share point on my XP Pro machine if that is possible. I tried to setup share point on a Server 2003 partition, but it just didn't work.

Do I have any alternatives? Is there a Share Point site that can be accessed for practice purposes? I'm open to suggestions. HELP!!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi!

We need to establish a new intranet for one of our customers using Share Point Server 2003.
We are looking for exemplary intranet sites where we can see what are the main areas that
are commonly covered by “todays” intranets to have an idea what is the typical content
in nowadays big intranets.
Links would by appreciated.

I am active duty in the USAF and my squadron has recently stated pushing us to use Microsoft SharePoint more and more. This may be an AF wide trend, not sure; the point is I have no idea what SharePoint is, what it does, how it works, or what capabilities and advantages it might bring to me and my co-workers. I was looking for someone who might be able to answer these questions, and might also be able to discuss some of the disadvantages of SharePoint. "Cannot add user because a user with that name already exists."

Some additional information:

1. I am one of the administrators of the site (there is one other administrator).
2. We both receive the same error when trying to add users.
3. We are using SharePoint 3.0
4. Under the "Manage Users" page the people we are trying add do not show up as users.

Thanks.

Hello.

A sbscription has been created for a report. When selecting "Manage subscription" option from the down arrow, the page doesn't load. The only way is to delete and recreate it. It runs fine, then when you want to manage it again, the page doesn't load or it takes a very long time to load (if at all).

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Two of the current Computer Repair Business books that I found so far on Amazon say that you can make your money back and then some while practicing computer repair by buying used or broken systems from $20 to $40 and fixing them up and reselling them. They say get a valid COA, motherboard without bad capacitors, stay away from custom power supplies, enough memory to run the OS (Windows XP minimum).

Is this realistic? Can I find these at Goodwill, Recycling Centers, and on Craigslist. I live in a very rural area. Can I build these systems using eBay parts? Can you get cheap COAs on eBay?

A:Practicing Computer Repair

An average used Windows XP in working order barely sells for more the $100 these days around here, most home users are preferring Windows 7 systems as XP is starting to show its age and so would many systems from 5 years ago and older. If you spend $40 on the systems and then have to add replacement parts or buy legitimate COA's for the systems then you won't make any money and you may loose money. This might be an okay way to practice but you also have to be sure that the systems don't keep coming back or break soon after being sold.

I'm completely clueless on how to do anything involving audio other than listening to those annoying noises Windows makes when it boots up!

I want to make an audio CD of myself practicing a speech. I have a mic that I can plug into a USB port, and it shows up as a potential recording device when I right click on the speaker icon and choose recording devices. I've used the mic successfully when I've skyped, so I know it works.

But I have no idea what software I need, in order to set up the mic on my desk, plug it in, and use Windows 7 Home Premium on my HP computer (which has a CD/DVD burner), to record myself talking into the mic.

As near as I can tell, Windows Media Player allows me to play and burn stuff already on my hard drive, but not to record it to the hard drive from an exterior source like the mic.

Eventually, if I can store the recording on my hard drive somewhere, I also plan to burn it to an audio CD so I can take the CD elsewhere.

Any and all help gratefully appreciated!

And thanks in advance, and happy holidays!

Tom

A:How to make an audio CD of myself practicing a speech

I don't have the time to create detailed instructions for you right now, but you can try the following:

Download and install Audacity (one of many free audio recording programs).

Record your voice and find the file the audio is saved to.

Play back the file by double-clicking it.

If successful, you just need to burn that file to a CD/DVD.

hi all
first i am sorry i am so much biggenr in the networking issues
anyways

i have an access point device , and i have windows 7 on my computer , can i share my files through my the wireless so i can access to them by using another computer having a wireless adapter ?

if yes so how can i do that

i hope someone helps me

thank you

A:can i use an ACCESS POINT device to share my files through a network ?

If you have computers on the same local area network (LAN) they can communicate with each other. If you connect the computers to the ACCESS POINT device (I assume this is a wireless access point, or WAP) the computers can file share.

Short description for Windows 7 and 8 file and printer sharing:

Go into the Network and Sharing Center from the Control Panel or from the Network icon in the Notification Area. Your network must be designated 'Private' (or 'Home' or 'Work'). Click on Change advanced sharing settings. In the Private or Home or Work section you can configure File and printer sharing, Public folder sharing, and Password protected sharing.

You may want to change the Workgroup name. To check it or change it right click on "Computer" and select "Properties."

You must uninstall or properly configure any non-windows firewall (security suite).

Hello:
I am trying to help somebody but I don't know much about Powerpoint, so I am hoping that the good people here might be able to. So here is the situation.

This is a mobile home park were they continuosly transmit a PP presentation of classifieds/events/etc thru their cable system already setup.
They have a second computer so that they can show a single slide of "WORK IN PROGRESS" while they edit/add to the contents of the main PP presentation on the first computer, all is done thru an A/B switch.
When done with the editing they switch back to the main presentation & the cycle repeats everyday.

I believe that it can all be done with 1 PC but don't know how to. I know how to open two instances of PP on a PC but don't know how to proceed to show the single file (Work in Progress) and work on the main file. I have been able to almost do it on my dual monitor setup by telling PP to run the single file in one monitor and show the presentation on the other to be able to edit. But as soon as I click on the one that I want to edit the other stops.

Can you guys share some insight into this???

THANK YOU
Maco

Therefore I have downlaoded and Installed the " PPV 2003" which works fine on my system, so that I can open and run PPS,PPT docs.
The only problem I face is that once a PPS doc comes in with my e-mail I cannot open and run it untill I save it on my hard disk.
Whereas on the full version it used to open from the attachment entry.
Is there a way to overcome this handycap,or is it due to limited functions of this program.

Hey, I use Power Point 2003 on my computer to build weekly Song Services for Worship at church. I have saved all the songs we use as separate presentations in a folder called "Song Library." When I build a song service for a given Sunday, I insert files from the Song Library but when I go to insert another song it jumps back to "My Documents." I need to change the default folder but don't know how to do that. I'd like to be able to have it go right to the "Song Library" folder to insert the song presentations I need. I hope this makes sense. If anyone can help me I would appreciate it. It certainly would cut down on the time it takes each week to make a presentation. Thanks in advance.

How can I add a connection point in Publisher 2003? If I create a flow chart with connectors (lines that snap to connection points) I often want to have the connector snap to an additional connection point. Please note that Microsoft may refer to these points as connection sites. In any case, these connection points are "smart" dots to which the lines connect. When the connection is made, the dot turns red. Otherwise, the dot is green.

One of my figures has a connection point in the center line of the side of a rectangle. There need to be two additional connection points such that one is at 1/4, 1/2, and 3/4 of the length of the side.

If you can help me, it would be very much appreciated.

My experience suggests its best to have all applications of the same version, so Office 2003 pro would be the way to go.

If its not too late, you could try to get OEM version with the hard drive as the qualifying "hardware".

OEM is significantly cheaper.

Hi all,

My os: windows 7, asus laptop

I have a laptop that was connected to a shared drive on a server 2003 box. Not using AD, just workgroups.

I have a user account setup on the server, and as I said, it was connected fine and worked for many months.

Now the connects was lost, so I tried to reset it up, i get "invalid password" from the server. I tried several other user accounts on the server and it will not connect.

The password is correct, and the username is correct. I can see the server when I go to map the drive, it prompts for username and pw, then says pw is incorrect.

I tried it form the cmd prompt using net use, same pw error: error 86.

I tried connecting to a share on a vista box, that worked.

I tried using a cable instead of the wireless, same error.

We have a network of about 15 pc's, all connected the same way, some laptops, some desktops - network is fine.

Rebooted everything, same problem.

What could be wrong?

A:Cannot connet to server 2003 share; used to work

error 86 implies mismatch in the security policy settings.
check secpol.msc on both systems - drill down to security options - network security: lan manager authentication level.

i personally use 'send ntlm v2 response only, refuse lm & ntlm' which is the most secure.
you're free to use what you want to use - just make sure it's common across all systems.

ps: if you use the same username and password on server 2003 and your system, your drive mapping will stick through reboots...

Hello all,

Over the weekend it seems that one of my Windows 7 computers here where I work lost connectivity with our file server.

Workstation:
Windows 7 Home Premium
Pentium Dual Core
3GB RAM

Server:
Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard x64
Intel Core 2 Duo
8GB RAM

It never had issues connecting with the share before now. Now every time I try to connect it to the share, it tells me that the password for the account is invalid. As the account for the workstation had no encrypted or protected files on the server, I just went and reset the password to make sure it hadnt gotten changed some how. This however did not fix the issue. The computer is able to access the internet and see that the server indeed exists on the network, but for what ever reason is not able to access the share any longer.

Any ideas?

firstly about two years ago i was making a game when suddenly my computer slowed down to the point where it took 15 mins to load a working version of windows. about half a year ago my dad got it to work faster after a bout 3 installs after that i estabalished a network with my new PC then the old one stopted working. so i resorted to my dad's other pc(i couldn't get the file transfer on that one either). a few days ago i got my old pc to work properly but now i am having trouble getting a file share on Windows and even Ubuntu but so far i would just like to know how to fix this probvlem on Windows.

Really need more information to be able to help.
What is the make/model and operating system of each computer?
How are they connected?
Do the compuiters show in each other's Network display?
Can the computers ping each other by IP Address and Computer Name?

This is a general trouble shooting guide for simple problems.

Each computer must have a Unique Name.
Each computer must have at least one user account with a password. Vista will not share with computers that do not.
All the computers must have the same Work Group Name.
File Sharing must be turned on for each computer.
Firewalls must be configured to allow sharing.
To Turn on File Sharing.
For the XP computers go to Control Panel, Network Setup wizard.
Click next.
Click next.
If you are running wireless, the ethernet card will be listed. If connected by ethernet and you have a wireless card it will be listed.
For right now, just select "Ignore the listed connections".
Click next.
Select "This computer connects to the internet by a residential gateway".
Click next.
Enter the Work Group name.
Click next.
Select "Turn on File and printer Sharing"
Click next.
Verify all the information is correct.
Click next.
I would select "Just finish the wizard" and not make a disc. It take about the same amount of time to run the disc as to manually enter the data.
Click next.
Click finish.

We upgraded our File Server Domain Controller from Windows 2000 Server to Server 2003.
Share access used to be really quick.
Now there are a couple of seconds between access to shares.
If you are moving a few levels throughout shares, this becomes problematic.
Does anyone know of any documents that explain the exact process the OS goes through to access a share?
Could it be the new security settings that Windows 2003 employs add a few seconds of overhead to accessing that share?
