Printer does not print after laptop goes to sleep or was closed

Q: Printer does not print after laptop goes to sleep or was closed

Printer is HP Inkjet
Laptop is VIAO
OS is Vista
The printer works fine after booting, however the printer does not print though the job show printing and the job cannot be deleted in these conditions:
1- the laptop has gone to sleep and is "revived" and then we try to print something local or from gmail or other online doc
2- the laptop is closed but not turned off and when it is reopened and "revived" - same problem

The only way then to make it print is to reboot the laptop - then and only then the print jobs start.

Any idea?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a Pavilion g7 series laptop.  I just pulled it apart to replace the fan, and now when I close the lid the laptop no longer goes to sleep.  I did not make any changes in the power options, so I assume I didn't get the laptop reassembled correctly after replacing the fan.  What makes the laptop know the lid is closed to sleep, and where do I look to make sure I get it put back together correctly?  Thanks!!

HiI'm using a HP ENVY TouchSmart 15-j198ez Notebook PC running Windows 10 64bit.I have an external display, and it's the only display I need, hence, the laptop lid is always closed. The peripherals I use are:Microsoft Designer Mouse/Keyboard Wireless Kit - BluetoothWacom Intuos 4 Tablet - USBLogitech Rumblepad 2 Game Controlle - USB None of the above mentioned peripherals wake the laptop from sleep. And I am forced to open the lid everytime I need to use the laptop. Previously I was using a Logitech USB keyboard and a Logitech Wireless Mouse (wth USB dongle) - both were able to wake the laptop from sleep with no problem. Gave up on them because I needed the extra USB slots. I also have a Bluetooth speaker set, which led me to belive that the bluetooth connection of the laptop is closing whenever the laptop is going into sleep, since it starts searching for other devices to pair with. This would explain why the mouse and keyboard can't wake the laptop, even though I have checked the "Allow this device to wake computer from sleep" boxes, for both, in the Device Manager dialogue. Any solutions for this?I would also be happy if the tablet or gamepad would wake the laptop. But the "Allow this device to wake computer from sleep" check boxes are greyed out for these devices. Thanks in advance.

Hi,
first time here, I have about a week experience (pulled out some hair) with windows 8/8.1, but I consider myself pretty comfortable with Windows in general.

When my win8.1 laptop is in sleep mode, I can wake it with a mere touch of my external bluetooth k/b without any issues, as long as the lid is opened. If I close the lid, I can continue to use it as its connected to a big Samsung plasma tv. But if I let the laptop go to sleep (or put it to sleep myself thru the menu), I am unable to wake it back; I need to pull it out from a/v furniture, open the lid and press the power button.

Is this a win8 thing, an Acer Aspire thing, or worse it can't be done?
Anyone else able to wake from sleep their win8 laptop w/closed lid???

Thanks

A:Waking laptop from sleep with lid closed

Try going into the power options and set the option for what to do when the lid is closed to "do nothing".

Hey hey, so the problem is i want to leave my laptop running when doing renders that take hours on end. I've disabled the sleep mode in every way that I know how to (see screen shots). When the lid is open it doesn't go to sleep, but when it's closed after about minutes it goes into sleep mode (all fans off etc).

This never happened with windows 7 and i've triesd programs like insomnia which haven't helped at all. Id really love to get to the bottom of this, otherwise I might have to reluctantly revert to windows 7

Anyone offering ideas would be much appreciated. Cheers

A:Unwanted sleep when laptop is closed

Hi safety1g,

FYI, I have seen this behavior before on a few Sony Vaio models, and each time it was referred back to Sony support, where they said the option to "change what the lid does when closed" is/was not supported in their power management scheme and there was no workaround for this issue. So, just consider this an FYI at this point; however, if you can't get your issue resolved quicky, I would spend 10 minutes on the phone with your laptop's manufacturing support group to see if they can confirm a similar issue.

Good luck,

I have a Dell Studio running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit, and the laptop doesn't sleep when I close the lid, except I double-checked my settings in the control panel and it's supposed to sleep.

I've had the computer for over 6 months now and the problem first started yesterday, right after I installed the latest Windows updates. When I close the lid, the computer doesn't sleep, but even when I open the lid, nothing appears on the monitor. It's still black and unresponsive, although the power button isn't blinking, so I know it's still awake.

A:Laptop doesn't sleep when lid is closed

Hello ieatlikeawolf, Welcome to the Forum.

Could you answer a few questions?
Does the laptop go into sleep mode if you choose Sleep from the start menu?
Have you tried doing a System Restore to a point before you installed the updates?
Did you install Update KB976902 at the same time as other updates?

Hi All
This is my first time on any forum so forgive me if I have gone to the wrong place. I have had the common problem of broken hinges on my L50 B. I have replaced both hinges and to all intent and purpose ever thing went well, i.e. the lid opens and closes great now. I have however done something wrong, the laptop now doesn't sleep when I close the lid. I have checked all the power settings and the advanced settings and they are set to sleep when lid is closed. Has anyone any idea what I may have done wrong. Can anyone tell me what the motherboard connection of the lid sensor switch looks like? Any help gratefully received.

Hi all,
I was just wondering if you can advise on something.
My new laptop keeps waking itself from sleep in my bag. As far as I can tell, the screen comes on and does not turn off and the laptop stays on until it runs out of battery (about 9 hours). This causes the screen and laptop in general to get very hot, as it is in my bag and in a laptop sleeve.
I wondered if it was bad for the screen to get this hot? I know the components can handle it, otherwise the laptop would shut down. But I am worried about the screen.
It is the Asus UX303LA-R4338H. It has a LCD panel (matte, non-touch, if that makes a difference). Windows 8.1.
As for the waking up: I think it might have been waking after 3 hours to go in to hibernate, so I have turned off hibernation in power settings (but I am yet to try this latest change). I have no tasks scheduled to wake the laptop, all devices bar the keyboard aren't allowed to wake it, can't be woken by internet, etc. What is curious is that it when this happens it does not sleep after 15 minutes or turn off the display after 5 minutes, as per my settings. Does anyone have any ideas on this?
Summary:-
1. Is this bad for laptop screen/elsewhere on the laptop to be on, in a closed environment, and this hot for 9 hours?
2. Any further ideas why it might be turning on and then not sleeping after 15 minutes?
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!

A:Laptop waking from sleep when closed - bad for screen?

It's definitely not good for the battery. Getting hot in the bag isn't god either. If it was me I would do a full shut down instead of sleep mode.

My laptop has Windows Vista on it and I have installed OpenOffice on it to. My Lemark X8350 all in one was connected to our desktop via a cable and I got it to work fine, but we no longer use the desktop and only use the laptop. I installed the software CD that came with the printer onto my laptop and set the printer as my default printer but when I try to print I get a box sayin "No default printer found. Please choose a printer and try again." I have double checked the settings on my laptop and it is defanitly set as thdefault printer and is the only printer on there and it is online.
I have also been told I can use the printer and laptop wirelessly too but I cant do this either. I dont mind how I print but to be able to print something would be good.

Any suggestions welcome
thanks

A:Printer won't print from my laptop

From the Lexmark X8350 support site:

Attention Windows Vista Users

If you have installed your printer on your PC using an original Lexmark Driver CD that came with your product and you are experiencing problems when printing, you may have installed the Windows XP driver.

Follow these steps to resolve:

Disconnect your USB cable from your printer.

Uninstall all Lexmark printer drivers on your PC.

Download the correct Vista driver for your model.

Install the driver on your PC.

Important! Do not reconnect the USB cable until the install software prompts the question of how the printer is connected.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Here is the Windows Vista download link. Select the X8350 download link from the list.

When the next page appears, there'll be tabs for XP and Vista, so make sure that you select the correct tab.

My advice would be to download the driver package for both XP and Vista and then burn them off to a CD-R so you'll have them for future use as needed.

Hey guys, been banging my head on the wall about this issue.

I recently purchased an Epson XP-205 Wi-Fi printer, and I set it up on my network and installed the drivers to my laptop, initially I could print over the network, but since a restart I can't. I have tried an uninstall and reinstall of the printer, but to no avail and if it matters, I'm running W7 64-bit.

I've ensured the printing programs are part of my firewall exclusion rules, and I can access the printers set up page via 192.168.1.3, also as expected, the printer is "pingable". On top of this my Android tablet is able to send things to the printer, so I'm sure it is an issue with my laptop.

I'm tech minded, so feel free to rabble on, I'll understand.

A:Laptop can't print to wireless printer

I assume that there is now a printer icon in your Notification Area showing the print queue of files you've tried to print. Examine the settings in that to make sure the printer is not in a "use offline" mode.

In Devices and Printers right click on the printer - Printer properties (that's not the Properties choice at the bottom) - General tab - Print Test Page. What happens?

Since the wireless has been back up, I can't print from my laptop. My daughter prints wirelessly from her laptop. My husband prints via USB. I've done my best to make sure my settings are right, but nothing works! One thing - when I got the new router, it couldn't handle my network name the way it had been before, so I changed it. Perhaps that messed something up - but I sure don't know how to know, nor how to fix it. Any ideas out there?!

I have a windows vista desktop and a windows vista laptop on my home network. I am trying to print from my network printer via my laptop. To make a long story short I am unable to print from the laptop. I have posted this question on numerous forums and I searched Google for hours but no one gave me nor did I come across a solid answer. Everything I came across talked about File sharing setup. The File sharing is setup correctly according to Microsoft.

The printer driver is installed on the laptop but I am having problems communicating with the printer. When I try to print a test page from the laptop the printer setup shows the printer is printing the page but the printer goes offline and the printer mode on the laptop changes to error. Also, the printer is connected to the desktop via a USB port and prints correctly for the desktop. My question to the forum is how can the laptop print to the printer? Which port should I use for the laptop? I have tried the numerous suggestions of creating a new port and add the name of the computer (desktop) and the name of the printer but this does not work. I hope I have explained myself well enough for someone to offer some advice.

Thanks,

I am able to print from the desktop but that is all.

Has anyone else had this problem?? or can anyone help sole this issue

There was an old thread with this same concern and I tried all of the suggestions posted there. The most frustrating thing about my scenrrio is this freakin thing worked fine till I uninstalled/reinstalled my printer on the pc.

I have a Lexmark x2470 connected via USB to a Desktop running XP. My Laptop is running Vista Business and connected to my Desktop via a Netgear wireless router.
I can access files on the Desktop from my Laptop and access files on my Laptop from my Desktop. I can print from my Desktop but cannot print from my Laptop.
I know that many others have had the same problem and have tried the solutions that solved their problems -- none worked for me.

Solution 1-

This is how I got my Vista Laptop to Print to a Shared Laser Printer which is connected via USB to my XP Desktop computer.
1. On your Vista Laptop, Go to Control Panel - Choose Printer - Then Choose Add Printer
2. Choose Add Local Printer
3. Click on Create a New Port, the default in the drop down list is Local Port. Do Not Change this. Click Next. You may have to type in Local Port. You will then be presented with a list of printer manufacturers. Select your vendor and specific printer from the list. If your printer is not listed, select the closest match. My printer is not on the list nor can I find any documentation on the web as to which is the closest match.
4. A dialogue box will appear asking for you to enter a port name. Type in \\computer name\printer name. For example, M... Read more

I want to know if the ability to print from anywhere in the world to a printer. My initial setup i was thinking of was this:

The laptop pulls up the IP address of a wireless print server which is connected to a wireless router (where it gets its internet from). The person using the wireless laptop gets the IP address of the print server, some how configures the computer to print to THAT IP address, and the paper should come out of the printer. Correct? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

P.S. it would be nice if i could be told how much this will cost.

I have downloaded the HP driver for my printer from the official HP website (I've deleted and repeated this process several times). Prints go to the queue but don't print. HP techs tried to troubleshoot but ultimately gave up and blamed Dell.
Dell blamed HP before even trying to help, and recommends that I call their tech support line and pay them to troubleshoot.
Microsoft is currently trying to troubleshoot but has been unable to solve the problem.

Run the Network Setup wizard (found in Control Panel of XP). Tell it each of your computers connects to the internet via "residential gateway" and that you want to enable file and printer sharing. Create a disk at the end only if you have a Windows PC other than XP or 2k Pro.

Windows XP firewall (if SP2) will be properly configured by the wizard. You must uninstall or properly configure any 3rd party firewalls on each machine. Unique computer names and same workgroup, of course.

The Shared Documents folder is automatically shared. Any other folders (or drives) or printers you want to share, just right click on them and sharing ... . When sharing a printer, accept the offer to load other drivers if your other PCs have different Operating System(s).

When you first go into My Network Places there will be nothing there. The first time you click on 'View Workgroup computers' will probably result in great disappointment. It takes awhile (20 minutes or so) before all the computers in the workgroup get up-to-date and accurate lists of the other computers. Often you can speed up this process via Search for other computers.

When computers show up in My Network Places, double click on one to see its shares. If that includes a printer, you can right click on the printer to connect to it.

This is driving me nuts! hehe... Seriously though, I have a laptop running windows XP and a desktop with Vista 64. The HP 932/930 printer is attached to the desktop unit. I've read and done everything on the page below to enable printer and file sharing...

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb727037.aspx

I was able to get the printing on the laptop to work, but only after I did the following: try to access the Vista PC via the list workgroups computers, the laptop would ask for the username/password of the Vista PC, after that was entered, I could print but only until the lpatop was shutdown then you have to di it all over again. I don't want my username/password out there, so I disabled the need for passwords on Vista via the link above, but the laptop still asks for it and still won't print.

There seems to be endless articales on Google for prinitng from Vista to an XP connected printer, but mine is just the reverse. Has anyone else here run into this same situation?

Thanks in advance for the help!

I am one of 3 laptops connected to a wireless printer (Brother MFC-9120CN all-in-one). The printer was working fine and now all of a sudden it wont print. The printer icon shows print error. My Laptop is an Asus N10J series with OS - Windows XP home.

My email & internet connection works fine, only printer has stopped printing.

Have checked Windows firewall and it's switched to Off, have set printer to 'share' mode in printer preferences & tried adding new printer on the add tab and still unable to print.

Prior to print problem occurring, I had several auto windows updates auto installing & had a problem with laptop keyboard keys printing numbers instead of letters, which I managed to fix.

Any suggestions on how to fix the printer would be greatly appreciated.

hello dear sir
I have the problem with my printers in my office . the printers are HP laser jet 1300 and 2035.
my problems is : After I print a document , printer does not stop and printing white papers until I stop print service or power down the printer.
whenI push ctrl+p  to print ,
some files like shockwave.shd appears in this address." c:\windows\system 32\spooler\printers". and these files never vanished unless i stop the print spooler.
I know that  : The following briefly describes the purpose
of SPL, SHD, and TMP files:

SPL files are the actual spool (print job) files.

TMP files are usually associated with LPR print jobs.

SHD files provide information about which printer the print job was sent to and from
whom the print job came. An SHD file is a "shadow" file that keeps track of what logical printer a (same number) xxxxx.spl file goes to. It also contains the file's order in the queue, the user who sent the file to the printer, and other information.
These files are usually deleted unless the logical printer settings state otherwise.
but these files  never vanished and untils these file were removed manually ,
printer cant print at all.
please help me .

Here is my system:

Computer A: Windows XP, two printers attached by USB, both HP - a 5100 and a 6480. Also has a brand new Linksys router and existing Cox cable modem connection. Recently underwent major service (adding RAM and cleaning out viruses). Of interest - two front USB ports now inoperable, but attached printing from rear USB ports works fine.
Computer 1: laptop, windows Vista - wireless printing has been working without issue for two years. Wireless internet connection works great. Recently, both printers' status is "offline" after computer goes to sleep. I can delete printers and reinstall and they work, but then the same thing happens.

Computers 2-4: Mixture of Vista and XP machines for my kids - their wireless network printing works fine.

Any suggestions on how to keep computer 1's network printer status "ready?" Do you think I should reinstall the drivers for both machines?

Thank you!

Whenever I print to the shared printer on my Windows 7 desktop, the print job will just sit in the print queue. If I stop and then start the print spooler, the job will print. It happens from an XP laptop. Print jobs sent from the local Windows 7 computer print just fine.
How can i solve this one ? :(

This issue with some particular laptop running windows Xp and windows 7 Home

A:Whenever I print to the shared printer he print job will just sit in the print queue

So, the Windows 7 Desktop has the printer physically attached to it and it's shared?
And the XP laptop is sharing the printer through the network? If I understand you correctly?
If so, on the XP Laptop, go to Start/Run and type devmgmt.msc and press enter. Are there any devices with yellow flags? Or Under Universal Serial Bus Controllers is there an Unknown Device? Or any listings for the printer? If so, right click it and Uninstall it. Now go to Start/Run and type appwiz.cpl and press enter. In the Add Remove Programs uninstall any drivers or software for the printer. Now,go to Printers and Faxes, and if the printer icons is there, Right click the shared printer icon and Delete it. And Restart the computer. Now when the computer comes back up, go to the printer manufacturers support/download drivers site and type in the model# for the printer and download the driver for the printer for XP and install it. Now, go to Start/Run and type the computer name of the Windows 7 machine (ex) \\ComputerName and press enter. A window should open up with the shared drives on the 7 computer, with the shared printer. Right click the shared printer and choose Connect. This will add the printer to Printers and Faxes again. Right click this printer/Properties and print a Test Page.

I've had about 5 instances where I've closed the laptop and put it in my laptop bag to pull the laptop out an hour later and have it be super hot.  It seems something has hung the system up from sleeping like it should when I close the lid.  I'm sure eventually I'll start getting thermal damage, especially the Samsung 950 NVME drives, so I am a bit concerned.  I usually pay attention now that I know this happens, but occasionally forget like today and worry about the damage that could be caused if it was left for an extended amount of time. Thanks in advance for any help! Laptop is a Lenovo P50 with a Xeon processor. Memory is Kingston HyperX 4x16gb 2400mhzHard drives are Samsung 950 m.2 in raid 0, and a Samsung Evo SSD

Hello, I just received an Alienware R2.  I cannot get it to wake up from sleep mode when the lid is closed with my USB keyboard or mouse.  It does wake up from sleep mode with my USB keyboard when the lid is open.  I just updated the bios to Version A05,A05.  Before I updated the new bios, it wouldn't even wake up from sleep mode by hitting the laptop keyboard.  I had to hit the power switch.
I also have updated the video drives to Version 20.19.15.4312,A04 (Intel HD) and Version 10.18.13.5442,A02 (nVIDIA Geforce).
I am guessing this is still a BIOS problem, but is there a fix?

Thanks.

Hello!  So i'm a tad confused.  When you close the lid, the laptop goes to sleep, and when you open the lid it wakes up, but you want it to wake up with the lid closed?

I have an odd problem. I've noticed that when I close my XPS 13, it shuts down (as indicated by the annoying front LED) but then later on it will start back up while it's being transported. Sometimes I'll get home, take it out of the computer case, and it will be as hot as a thermal missile because it's been running.
I'm not sure why it would just randomly start up like that? I have the power options to "sleep" when lid is closed, as seen here: http://i.imgur.com/p0x1C86.png.
I don't believe I have malware because I have reset my computer to factory settings on multiple occasions and scanned with SpyBot and Windows Defender.
In Bios "Wake on LAN" is Disabled.
For the life of me I can't think what would be triggering this besides the NSA (I joke). Does this happen to anyone else? Did you find a fix for it? Was it a dell program? Or is there a faulty piece of hardware on this computer?
Any comments/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks :)

A:Dell XPS 13 powers up after lid is closed and put to sleep

This is happening to me too. Did you ever find a solution? I just got an XPS 13 9360 and the only solution I have found is to hibernate it instead of using sleep, but this is annoying because it takes longer to wake up.

There seem to be two times this happens. I close my laptop lid (set to sleep when closed) and then when I reopen it, it restarts and then tells me there was a blue screen. When I click on the option to look for solutions online, the pop-up window just closes and disappears. Other times it has happened when my computer was idle for a while, lid open (presumably it went to sleep), then returned to it and power button illuminated, but black screen. Nothing to do but power off - or if I close the lid for a while, it will then restart when reopened.
Seems totally random. Sometimes doesn't happen for days in a row, then twice a day.
Thanks for your help. Sorry I'm not super tech savvy.

A:BSOD - Usually When Lid is Closed, Maybe Sleep Problem

Welcome aboard, anahata.

Your problem seems to be with your usb port/hub. Is there anything connected in the laptop's USB ports when you close the lid? Say any external HDD or something else? If so, remove those, close the lid and follow if it crashas again.

Turn USB selective suspense on to narrow down the possibility to discriminate if it is being cause by the hardware, or the USB hub driver.
USB Selective Suspend - Turn On or Off

At the same time, try to upgrade your NEC Electronics USB 3.0 Host Driver, using the link provided in the page: Driver Reference Table - nusb3hub.sys.

Let us know the results.

I am not sure when this started, but my P50 is set to sleep on AC or battery after x hours of inactivity. It resumes with the touch of the power button, but all apps are closed.  I have tried setting power settings to allow for hybrid sleep, but this has not helped.  Some posts indicate that maybe apps are closing when resuming from sleep, and not when going into sleep, but i can't seem to find evidence either way.  My system has 64gb of ram and 2 512gb PCI SSD. Any suggestions on where to look?

A:P50 apps closed when resuming from sleep

Now i suspect the machine is restarting or crashing somehow.  I noticed event ID for machine entering sleep, but then event ID 12 - operating system started. Minidump folder has a 0 KB DMP file at that time. Machine was set to restart on blue screen, so tha may be it.  I see minidump files from other dates too, but i have never seen a blue screen. More digging.
