Internet Explorer closes unexpectedly, Adobe Reader won't open, iTunes won't open....

Q: Internet Explorer closes unexpectedly, Adobe Reader won't open, iTunes won't open....

I have a windows 7 msi laptop that until recently has had no issues.
The past several weeks however, Internet Explorer closes unexpectedly multiple times when I am online. Also, I cannot open PDF files and Adobe Reader will not reinstall. iTunes won't open, and pictures won't open when I double-click them.

No error messages have shown up...the programs simply just do not open. I have the latest version of iTunes, and I am unable to download any version of a PDF file reader, but I previously had Nuance.

I have NO CLUE what to do or how to begin trying to resolve this issue, and most of my work files are PDF so this is becoming a huge problem...please help.

Preferred Solution: Internet Explorer closes unexpectedly, Adobe Reader won't open, iTunes won't open....

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Internet Explorer closes unexpectedly, Adobe Reader won't open, iTunes won't open....

Hello and welcome to TSF,
The first step would be to try a different browser and see if your online problems keeps happening. If you are a hardcore IE fan, see if there is an update for it. As far as your pictures and files are concerned, it might need a simple solution like Disk Defrag. Many people overlook this, but hey it works! You can also do a Disk Cleanup (also built into Windows) which clears some unnecessary junk.
Good Luck!

Problem started yesterday. My Itunes and Adobe reader would not open when I clicked on their icon. I have uninstalled and reinstalled and it didn't help. have tried the system more than an hour. I have windows 7 home premium edition and apparently I can't do a restore that will go back a few days. How can this not be possible? With XP you could go back 2 weeks or more. Now I can't seem to uninstall anything and the new driver program I installed also won't open. Now is this a mess or what??

A:Itunes & Adobe Reader will not open

I recommend before anything else full scans with free malwarebytes, free SuperAntiSpyware and free MSE. POst back and tell us what the results are. If your post is moved, it will still show where you posted it for a while. You can just click on it and you will be taken to where it was moved.

I have Adobe Reader 11.06 installed. I can open a single pdf perfectly well from Explorer, but when I double click on a second pdf to open it, nothing happens (it doesn't open). This only happens when I already have one instance of Adobe Reader open - opening the first pdf works just fine. And if I close the first one, I can open the other file (I just can't open them simultaneously). Opening a second file from Adobe Reader's open file dialogue also works fine.

Any ideas?

Edit: After some investigation, it seems that when I open multiple PDFs on my SSD (which Windows is installed to), it works perfectly. It only runs into issues when opening PDFs located on another hard drive, which is an issue for me because my Dropbox folder is hosted on a separate hard drive.

I found a similar issue. But in the other case double clicking a PDF would not even open if Adobe wasn't running. It was suggested to uninstall using the cleaner tool:
Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs

then reinstall. At least one person said that fixed his issue. It may be worth a shot. It may be a good idea to make a restore point first though.

I hope someone can help me before I lose it!

The last week or so I have been experiencing problems with IE. If I click on a new tab, 9 times out of 10 it shuts the window completely then gives the generic "windows has encountered a problem and needs to close" message. It's infuriating me at the moment, I have no idea what has caused this, I installed a new printer a couple of weeks ago but I can't see it being that?!?

I wonder if there's a way I can repair IE?

All suggestions gratefully accepted

Everytime I double click on the shortcut to Internet explorer (doesn't matter which one, they all do it), the web browser opens. The page begins to load and within 5 secs it just closes. No error pages. nothing. If I open a web browser and click on my Yahoo toolbor's mail button fast enough before the page closes, i can get around the problem and then use the internet, but this is exceedingly frustrating.

Sometimes at random the web browser closes and the error message that allows you to send a message to microsoft shows up. This happens randomly after I have been using the internet for a few minutes, idk if it means anything but I put it up just in case.

Finally, (sorry its so long) everytime I try to upgrade to Internet Explorer 7 it says it can't download it, restart the comp, and use the troubleshoot page which gives no help. Idk if any of these are related but these are all the problems I am having. I have XP and IE6. Any ideas of what is going on?

Good Morning...
Got another problem with my computer (or maybe it's me)..I can't get my Adobe Acrobat Reader to open up so I can read what can only be viewed in Adobe. It was working fine about a week ago...the last time I used it.

I tried last night to open up a file from a Web Site...and it just will not open for me. I was using Adobe 6.0 up until last night..and when it wouldn't open, I uninstalled it and downloaded the newest version... Adobe 7.0...still can't get it to open. Well, it will "open" (meaning come up) but it would show me anything to read.

I did delete some things off my computer between the last time I used Adobe, and last night.... Things that I thot "could go" ....... maybe I was wrong...One that I remember was called Quicken...cannot remember anything else....but I never ever have used Quicken, and don't know how it got on my computer....Did I do something wrong here?

Anyhow, sure could use some help...

Automatic configuration turned off
Display PDF in browser button turned on in Adobe Reader settings.
Nothing helps!

Hello and Welcome to TSF

Try using the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility. As long as you installed the application using the Windows Installer, this utility will remove all the folders, files, registry keys, and entries from your system and allow you to start over with a clean slate.

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Locate and run msicuu2.exe to install the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility.
Locate and launch the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility on the Start menu.
From the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility window, locate the application in the list and click the Remove button.
Once the application has been removed, click the Exit button to close the utility.

You may now reinstall the application or at least have piece of mind that it is gone

This version of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility works correctly in all 32-bit versions of Microsoft Windows. The 32-bit versions of Microsoft Windows are: :
Microsoft Windows Server 2003
Microsoft Windows XP
Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition
Microsoft Windows 2000
Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 3 or later
Microsoft Windows 98
Microsoft Windows 95

Not sure why, have never experienced this in previous versions of Windows,
but I can't seem to get pdf files to open in Firefox.

Using the latest version of firefox, video drivers, and adobe reader.
Got adobe reader installed fine, and adobe flash player installed fine,
but still pdf files won't open in firefox.

when I click on a pdf file to open it in the browser, it doesn't do anything,
its like the link to the pdf won't open at all. Happens every time.

Only way I can open pdf's on the web is to right click on the pdf link,
click on 'save link as' download it to the computer, and open it in adobe reader.

I can do that, problem is this is my wifes computer, and she's not as computer
literate as I am, so she has to ask ME to do all that for her whenever she comes
across a PDF document on the web, which happens alot with her taking online classes
right now. don't want her to have to call me every time she needs to open a pdf document
ya know? especially when its something small like a groupon or something she only needs
to view once to print the thing... so it would really be nice if she could bring up pdf's in firefox
so its not so much work on me

Hi there!

Not sure if I am posting in the correct area of the forum or not, but this has been driving me nuts for weeks and if I can help someone else with this tip, then it will be worth it.

Scenario -
I had a very early version of Adobe Reader on my computer forever. Within the last year, I have had Adobe Professional 6.0 installed on my computer. No issues what so ever when opening URLs to PDF documents.

Recently, my Adobe Reader was updated to version 9.1 (Adobe Professional 6 still installed also). Suddenly, I received an error message when opening URLs of PDF files stating that I needed Reader 8 or 9 to view the file. (Hello?? That's what I have installed!) And after clicking OK on the error message, Adobe Pro 6 would open instead of the Reader.

So, trial and error followed of all the standard check areas "open with - always use this program to open files", changing file associations (including choosing the program itself in the advanced options in this area), changing the Internet Preferences within both programs - some of which sometimes worked long enough for me to view what I needed to, but never seemed to really "stick" on an on-going basis. I have now come across this (which I am still testing to make sure it sticks) and it seems to be working.

Keep in mind that my issue only was occurring when opening PDFs from the web... Regular PDF files (emailed or on my computer already) were opening correctly with Reader 9.

hi guys,

why is it that on my computer, when i download or open a link to a .PDF file, i have the options to either OPEN, SAVE, or CANCEL right from there. there is no need to save it to a location before i can open it...i can just open it. but on my girlfriend's computer, it only gives me the options to SAVE, or CANCEL...no open option... i must save it and then open it. it's really annoying.

it is the same version of adobe acrobat reader and i even uninstalled her version and reinstalled it again hoping that it would fix the problem. is there a patch for Internet Explorer that is causing the issue (we are both using IE 6). anyone have any ideas?

Everytime I try to open Adobe Reader, AVG tells me there is a Trojon Agent3.

I ran Malware Bytes and it told me there are no threats detected.

Here is my HiJack This log (It couldn't access hosts, it told me):

When the computer wakes up after an overnight rest (was it sleeping or hibernating, and what is the difference?) Adobe Acrobat is open and displayed on top of it is a window which says:

"Acrobat Reader
There was an error opening this document. This file cannot be found."

It's 2015 Release Version 2015.007.20033, if that's relevant.

This happens only after I have been absent for many hours. It doesn't happen after a normal, i.e. short, absence during which the display is switched off.

What can be causing this?

Whenever I try to open a PDF file I recieve the following message. "a website wants to open web content using this program on your computer" and then it tries to open it up in MS Word which then scrambles the PDF file.

I have Adobe Reader X installed but it does not automatically find it and open it up...

Do I have the wrong type of Adobe reader installed? I have another machine that does that same thing...

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'd like my pdf documents to automatically open to window/splitvertical as opposed to having to click it every time I open various pdfs. Anyone know how to do this? Right now I have it set to automatically open to the "files" view, so I have a large list of files when I open a pdf which I like, I just also want to be able to view them along the right 80% of the page. I've attached the view I want when I open a typical pdf of portfolio documents.

All exe desktop shortcuts (.INK) on my crazy brother in law's Window 7 Home Professional HP are trying to open with Adobe Reader.

I have tried most every solution I can find on Tech Support Guy and else ware on the web.

INK fix did not work. EXE fix did not work. Microsoft's registry tweaks did not work.

It seems to be in his user profile because I can log on to Guest account and there is no problem.

I do not want to create another user and copy files unless I have to.

Anyone know on a good solution to this crazy problem ???

Thanks in advance.................

A bit of a bizarre problem, here. I am running a Windows Vista laptop, and it's been functioning fine for about a year or so. However, a week or two ago I found that whenever I opened a window of Windows Explorer, the whole program instantly closed and rebooted, leaving me without a desktop for about thirty seconds. Essentially, I'm made unable to access any file that I can't directly get to from my desktop or start menu. Anyone know what's wrong?

A:Explorer instantly closes when I open it.

Bringing this back to attention, it's really hampering my schoolwork.

Hello, kwhite5858
Welcome to TSF

My name is Billy O'Neal and I will be helping you. (Billy or Bill is fine, if you like.)
Please give me some time to look over your computer's log(s).
Please take note of the following:In the meantime, please refrain from making any changes to your computer.
Also, even if things appear to be running better, there is no guarantee that everything is finished. Please continue to check this forum post in order to ensure we get your system completely clean. We do not want to clean you part-way up, only to have the system re-infect itself. :)
If you do not understand any step(s) provided, please do not hesitate to ask before continuing. I would much rather clarify instructions or explain them differently than have something important broken.
Finally, please reply using the button in the lower left hand corner of your screen.
Old topics are closed after 3 days with no reply, and working topics are closed after 5 days. If for any reason you cannot complete instructions within that time, that's fine, just put a post here so that I know you're still here. We get a lot of people who simply leave, and if there is no contact for that amount of time I will have to assume you have "vanished" .

We need to create an OTViewIt ReportPlease download OTViewIt by OldTimer.
Save it to your desktop.

A friend of mine called me asking for help converting an important document from a PDF to a DOC. I go to a website to convert the PDF and when I open it it gives me this... . I then go to open the PDF in Edge and Firefox (they are the only other PDF viewers I have other than Adobe) and they give me these messages... . But when I open it in Adobe Acrobat Reader DC, it shows the document normally. It only opens in Adobe Acrobat Reader DC. I don't know what was done to the file before it was given to me and I have tried printing it to a PDF and opening it but it gives me the same error. Does anyone have any ideas?

You can save them. After you open the document, right click anywhere on it and then click "save as."
